These instructions are using the last release of iOS 12.

Double-tap Settings.
Scroll down and double-tap Phone.
The first item under the Calls heading is:
Announce Calls. VoiceOver will say what the value is for the Announce Calls
item. iOS 12 Double-tap the Announce Calls item and choose from the following
options:
Always
Headphones and car
Headphones only
Never

Double-tap Always.
I recommend pressing the back button in the upper left corner a couple of times
to get back to the main Settings screen.
Then press the Home button or use the gesture to close the Settings app.

Why don't you try it.
Alan said it doesn't work for him, but you never know until you try and also
try Christina's suggestion to turn on the HDMI switch in Voiceover Settings >

Hi,
I wonder if that would work for the bluetooth speaker issue (see thread about
Bose speakers and iOS 13). I doubt I’d be that lucky, lol.

Hi Alan,

I have a few thoughts and ideas. I do have a question though. When VO goes to
your phone instead of through the speaker, is it only going to the ear speaker
where you can barely hear VO? Or is the sound just fine? I actually heard about
this some time ago and I was under the impression that it was actually a new
feature for a few speakers. I personally prefer VO to stay with my phone and
for only the music to come out of the speakers, like when I use airPlay. That
is my personal preference. I don’t like VO interupting my music. That is just a
personal preference. I can understand that others prefer VO to go through the
connected speaker. ☺️ So here’s an idea I heard about. I heard there is a
setting under accessibility, voice over, audio, send to HDMI. I heard if you
want VO to stay with the phone to make sure that is set to off. However in your
case, maybe try setting it to on. I don’t know. Also, you should unpair the
speaker, change the setting, then re-pair the speaker to your phone. I don’t
know if this will help at all , but maybe it’s worth a try. Also, I have a
friend who recently used a Bose Revolve and she was quite pleased to have VO
stay with her phone because she didn’t have to interrupt the music to do things
on her phone. Everyone in the room could enjoy the music and she retained the
ability to do what she needed to on her iPhone.

HTH and best of luck,
Christina

from my phone

Hi to all. Last night, I decided to stop using my phone to listen to a couple
described movies I had put on my victor stream. So, I turned off the bard book
I was listening to on my phone and plugged in a cable to my bluetooth/wired
headphones. I didn't turn off my headset or turn off bluetooth on my iPhone
because I thought that if I plugged in my wire to my headset that my iPhone
wouldn't be bluetooth any more and would have disconnected from my headset.
This turned out to not be the case. I picked up my phone this morning to see
what the weather would be, and I couldn't hear voiceover at all. I tried
talking to Siri to get voiceover to turn on, but I couldn't hear any sound from
SIRI. I then turned on another bluetooth speaker and it connected to my phone
and I heard voiceover, but things still weren't quite wright because I still
couldn't get any response from SIRI. I then thought of my headset. When I put
it on I saw it was still on, and I could hear voiceover through it and I was
then able to hear Siri just fine. In future if I want to use a bluetooth/wired
headset, I'll turn off bluetooth on my phone. I'm glad voiceover is working
now and my phone is working fine.

Right below this you should find:

Terri1 of course it would be your name.

Terri2 just below that,

Below those next you will find:

Sound Channels Terri

Terri1

Terri2

Unselect or Turn the “Terri1 off for both the “Speech” and the “Sound”

Then while that screen is still ope, double tap to select both again.

Repeat this process with Terri2 for both Speech and Sound, turning them first
off and then back on..

Amazeingly the fix is this simple.

RE: Qardio Arm Help

2019-11-22 Thread Mr. Ed
I was told that the battery compartment should go towards your sholder and the
other end just above your elbow. I believe this is what the techs told me a
Qardio arm.

I have one and I put the cuff on so that the battery cover is down toward my
elbow. I use it on my left arm because I am too clumsy with it on my right arm.

Re: Apple Accessibility reply to Voiceover no longer coming out of my Bose Mini Soundlink 2 bluetooth speaker since upgrading to iOS 13.2

2019-11-22 Thread Christina

HTH and best of luck,
Christina

Exchanging my AirPods Pro

2019-11-22 Thread Anthony Vece
Hi everyone;
I am exchanging my AirPods Pro. The right AirPod is just very low in volume and
I can’t do anything with it. So I’ll exchange them and see what happens. I’m
even contemplating going back to my AirPods second generation. They are less
complicated. I’ll let you know what happens.

Re: Trouble connecting my SiriusXM account to my Google home mini speaker using the iOS app

2019-11-22 Thread Mary Otten
Once you get past that inaccessible initial link, you should’ve had a choice,
whether to let Google search for and find your information, if the email
address SiriusXM has on file is the Google one. Or you would have to take the
other choice and then enter the relevant email and password, which would then
take you to a place where I think it either says you’re connected or you have
to tap a button to make the connection. I can’t remember exactly. The thing is,
the email address that the Google home app is using Hass to be the same one
that Sirius XM has on file, or you have to go through that process where you
enter the relevant information yourself and make the connection. Hope that
helps.

RE: Maybe a fix for all Bluetooth issues? was: a fix for the hearing aid issue that works

2019-11-22 Thread Alan Lemly
Unfortunately, the fix posted to have Voiceover broadcast through hearing aids
instead of through the iDevice's speakers didn't work for my connected Bose
Mini Soundlink 2 bluetooth speaker. Voiceover is still broadcasting through my
iPhone's speakers after I took the posted steps.

Caroline, you will only see these options for speech channels and sound
channels if you have your hearing aids or a Bluetooth speaker connected.
I wonder if this would also fix the Bluetooth issue some people have.
Moop and others who report that they don't hear system sounds or even Voiceover
on their Bluetooth speaker should try this.

Hello all,

Just heard a tip from Jonathan Mosen podcast on how to fix the hearing aid
issue so all sounds go through your hearing aids.

Go to voiceover,

Select Audio,

Swipe down to Speech Channels (your name),

Right below this you should find:

Terri1 of course it would be your name.

Terri2 just below that,

Below those next you will find:

Sound Channels Terri

Terri1

Terri2

Unselect or Turn the Terri1 off for both the Speech and the Sound

Then while that screen is still ope, double tap to select both again.

Repeat this process with Terri2 for both Speech and Sound, turning them first
off and then back on..

Amazeingly the fix is this simple.

Best,

Terri Hedgpeth

2019-11-22 Thread Rob Armstrong
These instructions are using the last release of iOS 12.

Double-tap Settings.
Scroll down and double-tap Phone.
The first item under the Calls heading is:
Announce Calls. VoiceOver will say what the value is for the Announce Calls
item. iOS 12
Double-tap the Announce Calls item and choose from the following options:
Always
Headphones and car
Headphones only
Never

Double-tap Always.
I recommend pressing the back button in the upper left corner a couple of times
to get back to the main Settings screen.
Then press the Home button or use the gesture to close the Settings app.

2019-11-22 Thread Marcia Yale
I finally located the track position slider—by accident—and the problem is that
it is not accessible via flicking from element to element any longer, as it
should be. In other words, the only way you can find it is to move your finger
around the screen.

I just re-installed the Apple Podcast app to check out any changes.

My go to Podcast app is Overcast.

It has better speed controls.

Hi Marcia,

Where are you looking for the track position slider?
There isn't a slider in the mini-player that appears at the bottom of the
screen. However, if you tap the name of the podcast in the mini-player, then
the full screen player will open and it does contain a slider as well as fast
forward and rewind buttons, speed control, etc.

Re: Deleting messages from the facebook pages app

2019-11-22 Thread Donna

on More, a list of options will appear, one of which is delete post, tap delete
& confirm that you want to delete the post. If this doesn’t work, Im at a loss.

Yes. That solves the iOS problem in 13. My husband could not hear anything, and
I could hear the sounds in my hearing aids with Bluetooth turned on.

Bose speakers and iOS 13). I doubt I’d be that lucky, lol.

Speech and Sound Channels options are only available and visible when you have
an audio device connected to your iPHone, such as headphones. I would think
having hearing aids connected would also make them available, but I don't know
for sure.

Best,
Anna

Hello all,

Just heard a tip from Jonathan Mosen podcast on how to fix the hearing aid
issue so all sounds go through your hearing aids.

Go to voiceover,

Select Audio,

Swipe down to “Speech Channels (your name)”,

Right below this you should find:

Terri1 of course it would be your name.

Terri2 just below that,

Below those next you will find:

Sound Channels Terri

Terri1

Terri2

Unselect or Turn the “Terri1 off for both the “Speech” and the “Sound”

Then while that screen is still ope, double tap to select both again.

Repeat this process with Terri2 for both Speech and Sound, turning them first
off and then back on..

Amazeingly the fix is this simple.

Best,

Terri Hedgpeth

Re: Trouble connecting my SiriusXM account to my Google home mini speaker using the iOS app

2019-11-22 Thread Jen .
Hi,
I did get some help when I contacted the Google disability support through Be
My Eyes but now Google home will not recognize my SiriusXM username and
password it says the information is incorrect but I can get into my account
just fine through the website or the SiriusXM app so not sure.
I have reinstalled the Google Home app and have changed passwords with SiriusXM
so now they are looking into it.

HI Carolyn,

Speech and Sound Channels options are only available and visible when you have
an audio device connected to your iPHone, such as headphones. I would think
having hearing aids connected would also make them available, but I don't know
for sure.

Best,

Re: a fix for the hearing aid issue that works

2019-11-22 Thread Anna Dresner
HI Carolyn,

Speech and Sound Channels options are only available and visible when you have
an audio device connected to your iPHone, such as headphones. I would think
having hearing aids connected would also make them available, but I don't know
for sure.

Best,
Anna

It's in Voiceover Settings.
Remember you have a search box at the top of settings, if you know the name of
a setting but can't remember where it is all you have to do is type its name or
part of it in that search box.
In this case, if you type "Always" the setting you want is the second search
result. Once you find it, double tap on it and it will take you there, swipe
right once and Voiceover will tell you where to find it, in this case it will
say Accessibility > Voiceover.

Go to settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Always Speak Notifications and double
tap it to off.
That should stop all speaking of notifications.
Of course, that turns them off entirely.

Other than turning off speech when on a call, how can I keep

5S but it does happen on the iPhone 8.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

You have full control whether notifications appear on the lock screen in
Settings > Notification Centre.
Just go to each app listed, e.g. Apple News, Messages, Mail etc. and turn off
"Show on lockscreen".

Re: had a very scary iPhone experience when I wasn't getting voiceover from my phone

2019-11-22 Thread Holly

Josh:

This same thing happened to me with my blue tooth compatible hearing aids.

I disconnect the battery compartment on the hearing aids at night and put
them in a de-humidifying container.

One night, I didn't get the battery compartment completely disconnected and
when I tried to hear my phone in the morning, no speech from VO. I
panicked!

After trying everything, I thought I would have to take my phone into the
Apple store, but when I put on my hearing aids, I realized that speech was
still going through the blue tooth aids. Relief!

Lesson learned.

2019-11-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It's in the same place where Microsoft Accessibility is, under Specialized Help
 and the Technical heading.
Currently there is only google and Microsoft Accessibility, under the "Other"
heading which comes before Technical you also have Clearblue, which I believe
is a company which makes pregnancy tests/monitors. I assume you may have other
options if you are in the US which may not be available in Canada or other
countries.
If you use Be My Eyes it's not a bad idea to sign up for their monthly
newsletter because then you will find out if they add other companies to their
specialized help offering.

RE: Getting notifications to not speak when talking on the iPhone

2019-11-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Anyone have any suggestions?

You have full control whether notifications appear on the lock screen in
Settings > Notification Centre.
Just go to each app listed, e.g. Apple News, Messages, Mail etc. and turn off
"Show on lockscreen".

Maybe a fix for all Bluetooth issues? was: a fix for the hearing aid issue that works

2019-11-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Caroline, you will only see these options for speech channels and sound
channels if you have your hearing aids or a Bluetooth speaker connected.
I wonder if this would also fix the Bluetooth issue some people have.
Moop and others who report that they don't hear system sounds or even Voiceover
on their Bluetooth speaker should try this.

Hello all,

Just heard a tip from Jonathan Mosen podcast on how to fix the hearing aid
issue so all sounds go through your hearing aids.

Go to voiceover,

Select Audio,

Swipe down to “Speech Channels (your name)”,

Right below this you should find:

Terri1 of course it would be your name.

Terri2 just below that,

Below those next you will find:

Sound Channels Terri

Terri1

Terri2

Unselect or Turn the “Terri1 off for both the “Speech” and the “Sound”

Then while that screen is still ope, double tap to select both again.

Repeat this process with Terri2 for both Speech and Sound, turning them first
off and then back on..

Amazeingly the fix is this simple.

Best,

Terri Hedgpeth

Emails in the “sent” folder

Since upgrading to IOS 13, I have not gotten all of my sent messages in the
sent folder. Sometimes when I am reading something on the web and I want to
save it, I send an email to myself. Prior to 13, I would get a copy in my

using the iOS app

Hi,
I am having Great difficulty trying to connect my SiriusXM account to my Google
home mini speaker using the Google Home iOS app. What happens is when I go to
the app hit add then radio there is no link so when you press on it nothing
happens so first question is does anyone know of a workaround other than having
a sighted person do it for me.
Then I finally got in yesterday with help of a sighted friend I entered in the
username and password and then got a message saying it did not match their
records but I can getin through the SiriusXM website and the app.
Anyone have any other suggestions or even a place in the Google home app to
leave feedback that somethings not working.
Jen

Mine comes on, or did, whenever I unlocked, when I'd wanting to know the time,
not some something from Apple News that I didn't care about. I found that, for

Repeat this process with Terri2 for both Speech and Sound, turning them first

RE: Advice on how to proceed with my Spotify issue

2019-11-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It certainly won't hurt to write to accessibil...@apple.com and describe the
issue, you can always tell them you could provide a screen recording if they
can't reproduce this or say there is no issue.
I would also include what Spotify said about this being a Voiceover issue and
not a Spotify issue.

Subject: Advice on how to proceed with my Spotify issue

Hi all,
I wrote to the list a few weeks ago saying that I can no longer read
descriptions of playlists on Spotify, although I was able to with older
versions of the app. I have also posted to apple vis, and put out a few posts
in various facebook communities. A small number of people agreed that they were
having the same experience, many people ranted on about unrelated issues, and
one person even said they were not experiencing this issue with the 13.3 IOS
beta. I have raised this issue with Spotify twice, using their online customer
support chat feature. The first time, the person said they would escalate it.
The second time, I was told that they could not see how they had impacted any
accessibility features, and that what I should really do is contact apple
accessibility, as it's a voiceover issue, not a spotify one.

I do not know what to do next. Do I indeed contact Apple? And, is there
anything I can tell spotify about in terms of what they ought to be doing
differently with the text of the playlist descriptions? i.e.
could it be that the text is too small? no one seems to know what to do when I
say "the text is visibly there but voiceover will not read it".

Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know I may just need to cut
my losses, but it's also very frustrating to feel as though I'm getting nowhere.

Thanks, all, and happy Friday.

Shermeen

RE: accessible tuning apps that can be used to help tune a piano

2019-11-22 Thread Karen Poulakos
I found that with my harp, if I touch the string while it’s still ringing
before Talking Tuner speaks, I don’t get an accurate reading.

When I purchased my first harp – I’ve had several before switching to my pedal
harp, I was told “you spend half your time tuning, and the other half playing
out of tune.” (smile)

With my guitar, I don't always let the string ring until it stops.

That shortens things up quite a bit.

I used to have a Celtic Harp but got tired of tuning it and sold it about a
year before I found Talking Tuner.

O well.

The lag is annoying, but I did read somewhere that it doesn't say the pitch
until the string stops ringing. So it can make for a long tuning session.
Minimum of 10 to 15 minutes. Often longer, depending on how out of tune my
harp is. And, a harp needs tuning often.

It would be nice if someone could comp up with a better option. I haven't
discovered one yet.

I use this too, though not by any means perfect. I can repeat the same note
and it give a different answer every time. If I get
it to say the same thing 2 or 3 times, I conclude it must then be right.
That, and the time lag while it ponders makes for a fairly frustrating
experience, but it's a good start.
Good for string changes and getting close enough before using something else
which usually means taking hands off instrument being
tuned.
Tuning fork, or quality tone generator you have to prod for the tone. Tune one
primary string that way and the rest to that so
instrument is tuned to itself at least.

Yes, can't do that with a harp.

RobH, agrees it's good, but not perfect.

I use Talking Tuner to tune my 44 string harp. It will tell you whether a note
is sharp or flat, and how far off it is.

Go to settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Always Speak Notifications and double
tap it to off.
That should stop all speaking of notifications.
Of course, that turns them off entirely.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Any improvements for voice over in 13.2.3

2019-11-22 Thread Sharonda Greenlaw
The issue I have is with the braille cursor. When I'm using my braille

keys. I literally have to turn on VO and use gestures on the phone to
move my cursor. Quite annoying. Has anyone else experienced this? I
have the Focus 40 Blue. Thanks.

Trouble connecting my SiriusXM account to my Google home mini speaker using the iOS app

2019-11-22 Thread Jen .
Hi,
I am having Great difficulty trying to connect my SiriusXM account to my Google
home mini speaker using the Google Home iOS app.
Anyone have any other suggestions or even a place in the Google home app to
leave feedback that somethings not working.

had a very scary iPhone experience when I wasn't getting voiceover from my phone

2019-11-22 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Hi to all. Last night, I decided to stop using my phone to listen to
a couple described movies I had put on my victor stream. So, I turned
off the bard book I was listening to on my phone and plugged in a
cable to my bluetooth/wired headphones. I didn't turn off my headset
or turn off bluetooth on my iPhone because I thought that if I plugged
in my wire to my headset that my iPhone wouldn't be bluetooth any more
and would have disconnected from my headset. This turned out to not
be the case. I picked up my phone this morning to see what the
weather would be, and I couldn't hear voiceover at all. I tried
talking to Siri to get voiceover to turn on, but I couldn't hear any
sound from SIRI. I then turned on another bluetooth speaker and it
connected to my phone and I heard voiceover, but things still weren't
quite wright because I still couldn't get any response from SIRI. I
then thought of my headset. When I put it on I saw it was still on,
and I could hear voiceover through it and I was then able to hear Siri
just fine. In future if I want to use a bluetooth/wired headset, I'll
turn off bluetooth on my phone. I'm glad voiceover is working now and
my phone is working fine.

Re: accessible tuning apps that can be used to help tune a piano

2019-11-22 Thread Richard Turner
With my guitar, I don't always let the string ring until it stops.
That shortens things up quite a bit.
I used to have a Celtic Harp but got tired of tuning it and sold it about a
year before I found Talking Tuner.
O well.

The

Advice on how to proceed with my Spotify issue

2019-11-22 Thread Shermeen Khan
Hi all,
I wrote to the list a few weeks ago saying that I can no longer read
descriptions of playlists on Spotify, although I was able to with
older versions of the app. I have also posted to apple vis, and put
out a few posts in various facebook communities. A small number of
people agreed that they were having the same experience, many people
ranted on about unrelated issues, and one person even said they were
not experiencing this issue with the 13.3 IOS beta. I have raised this
issue with Spotify twice, using their online customer support chat
feature. The first time, the person said they would escalate it. The
second time, I was told that they could not see how they had impacted
any accessibility features, and that what I should really do is
contact apple accessibility, as it's a voiceover issue, not a spotify
one.

I do not know what to do next. Do I indeed contact Apple? And, is
there anything I can tell spotify about in terms of what they ought to
be doing differently with the text of the playlist descriptions? i.e.
could it be that the text is too small? no one seems to know what to
do when I say "the text is visibly there but voiceover will not read
it".

Anyway, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I know I may just
need to cut my losses, but it's also very frustrating to feel as
though I'm getting nowhere.

Thanks, all, and happy Friday.

Shermeen

Thanks! I thought about that but I think the easiest way is to just turn off
speech with a 3 finger double tap!

Go to settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Always Speak Notifications and double
tap it to off.

That should stop all speaking of notifications.

Of course, that turns them off entirely.

Hello again,

I have another question.

Other than turning off speech when on a call, how can I keep notifications from
speaking in my ear or through the speaker phone while I’m on a call? This is
very annoying! I don’t believe this happened on my old iPhone 5S but it does
happen on the iPhone 8.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Find your message, use 1 finger & double tap, a menu list will show up, one
of the options in the list is delete post. This is how to remove a post
using the facebook app.

Donna

Hi,
Can you delete messages from the Facebook pages app. How do you do this
since it is not the same procedure as regular messenger.

Re: accessible tuning apps that can be used to help tune a piano

2019-11-22 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone

Hi,

I know apps like this exist. Are any of them accessible?

Thanks for your help in advance.
