Mail App and a Notes Folder

2020-05-04 Thread Mike B.
Hi All,

My better half & I upgraded to the new SE 2020 iPhone today. Well, in the
Mail app I had a folder called, Notes , on the old SE that didn't transfer
over to the new SE. But, for the life of me I don't recall if I created
this folder or if it was already there! I tried creating this folder again,
but it says it already exists, so it can't be created, but it's not showing
in the folder list. I noticed a, Notes, folder somewhere's in a Mail App
setting, but now I can't find that booger again, and now I'm not exactly
sure where I saw it the first time!

If anyone knows where I'm screwing up, would you please give me a real hard
kick in the right direction?! This damn dual tasking, you know breating and
setting up an iPhone, is enough to make me want to drink some sanitizer, but
not this, 60 proof weak crap, but the kind with a hell of a lot more kick
than that weak crap! LOL LOL
Thanks much!

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.
*My body has absorbed so much soap and disinfectant lately that when I pee
it cleans the toilet.

RE: Phones manufactured.

2020-05-04 Thread Laury, Shawnese (LEO)
I totally agree. Prior to becoming an iPhone user I would have to purchase an
external software to download to my phone so that I could then only have access
to some of the phone's features. That software was almost $300. This was $300
after first having purchased the phone. Now my iPhone comes equipped right from
the box with what I need to operate it independent of any external software or
add-ons. This has changed my life and has allowed me to do so much
independently and now I don't have to ask for assistance from someone else to
get things done. Yes, there will be glitches but I can live through them.

Honestly, I personally could care less where my iPhone was made. All I know is
how much easier my life has become since I purchased and learned to use my
iPhone. It is so much fun to be able to not only make phone calls to do things
like order pizza which I did a few hours ago, but to also listen to books, send
text messages, and listen to OTR shows, listen to music, and to read Ebooks. I
know people are concerned because of the Virus, but that isn't a good enough
reason to give up your iPhone.

It's not just the virus. People may have some security issues, for example,
Huawei is particularly close to the Chinese government and has been the
Focus of several security concerns from the US and Europe. Some people also
want some assurances that their devices are made in a environmentally safe and
worker friendly way.

Urban Legends are hard to kill.
Most smart phones, Android or Apple are made in China, as Charles said.
Yes, some are made in a couple other countries, but this sounds like the kind
of thing that gets started, and people who do not bother to do their homework
believe it and pass it along.
So, good for you for asking.
Here is a link to a very long article that will help expand on this topic.

RE: Phones manufactured.

2020-05-04 Thread chaltain

It depends on the manufacturer, but a lot of Android phones are manufactured
in china. Other locations include Taiwan and South Korea, and I'm sure there
are more.

A difficult person in my life told me that people where she
lives are flocking to buy Android phones, getting rid of
their iPhones, because they are made in China.

I ignored what she said, but was so tempted to ask, where

iTunes question.

2020-05-04 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Hello,

I don’t normally use iTunes to transfer content to my iPhone I genaerally
prefer to use Waltr2.

However, I am helping a friend to set up his iPhone and it is his first device.

I have a tone that I have created for him, it is the correct length, in the
right format and works fine on my iPhone.

I have tried copying the tone to Automatically ad to iTunes and under Files,
Devices Synchronise is disabled.

The iPhone is visible to iTunes it sees the serial number, battery level and
so-on.

I am obviously missing something but how do I get the tone on to his iPhone?

Using Windows10 and the version of iTunes from Apple’s site.

Thanks.

Malcolm

my SE 2020 but it should work with your 8 Plus which also supports fast
charging. From the research I've done, most of these chargers which work with
iPhones are 18W USB C adapters and use a USB C to lightning cable that usually
must be bought separately. I purchased an Anker 18W fast charger and Anker 6
foot USB C to lightning cable from Amazon today but it will be a few days
before I receive them and I'll let you know how it works. Most of the marketing
hype included with the product descriptions of these fast chargers say they can
charge an iPhone to 50% within 30 minutes. I'll let you know my results after
I've used it. The combined cost for the charger ($18) and the cable ($15) was
$33.

Re: voice dream reader

2020-05-04 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I really like voice dream reader. I love the fact that I can listen
to audio books, audio dramas, music, and bookshare ebooks. I've
purchased most of the TTS voices available. They have such a good
selection. I just wish they had eloquence. I like the fact, that you
can have a default voice for all books, but it is easy to choose a
specific voice for a specific book as well.

Joe,

I don't think credit cards are supported as funding sources for Apple Pay. Your
debit card is tied more directly to your bank account which is why I think they
are supported.

At any rate, I'm glad you were successful.

Hi,

I read the support page and did a trial run with $5 to my daughter. It worked
fine. I could only use my debit card. It wouldn’t accept my Wells Fargo credit
card with no explanation as to why. But it does work so I’m good.

Thanks,

I hate to dust off that old adage that you get what you pay for but I can't
resist where Dolphin Easy Reader is concerned especially when comparing it to

I zip my audio books if they're done in mp3s. I then copy them into iCloud
Drive and then simply load them into VoiceOver much like any other book. You
can also use other clouds like Dropbox. Once it's in Voice Dream Reader, each
file is treated like a separate chapter. One thing you should do before zipping
them is make certain the files are named sequentially so they appear and will
be played in order. Hope that helps.

RE: Fast charger ipHone8+

2020-05-04 Thread Alan Lemly
Malcolm,

Thanks for the explanation and details about power chargers and how their
wattage is calculated. I've had great success with all the Anker products I've
purchased including speakers, headphones, battery packs, and cables and I
expect a good experience with my Anker fast charger when it arrives.

Subject: Re: Fast charger ipHone8+

Hello,

Your iPhone8 has some basic charging profiles.

Firstly, the charger that came with your phone has an output of 5 Volts at 1
Amp. This gives you a total output of 5 Wats and is the slowest charging
method.

Some chargers and power packs are rated at 5 Volts and 2 Amps that is 10 Wats.
This is obviously twice the power of Apple s charger.

Some chargers are rated at 5 Volts and 2.5 Amps giving you 12 Wats of power.

The fastest charging method is to use what is known as a USB Power Delivery
compatible charger. This charges at 9 Volts at 2 Amps giving you 18 Wats of
capacity. There are also power packs that deliver this rate of charge too.

All of the fast chargers 18 Wats have a USB C socket that will power your
device and also charge the power pack too if that s what you re using.

So to fast charge your iPhone you will need a charger with a 9 Volt and 2 Amp
rating or higher. Your iPhone will control the power it draws so a higher
rated charger will not harm it.

So to achieve a fast charge you will need a USB C to Lightning cable too.

The fast charge will charge your iPhone from flat to about 50% in half an hour.
This does not mean your iPhone will be fully charged in an hour though. As
the battery is charged to 50% it will gradually reduce the charging rate. This
is governed by the Battery Controller and has nothing to do with the charger.
At around 80% your phone will be on a trickle charge.

Anker chargers, power packs and cables are generally well thought of.

Hope this is of use to you.

Yes your SE will support fast charging.

You will require a charger that supports 9 Volt 2 Amp charging. This will have
a USB C port and you will need a USB C to Lightning cable.

RE: Apple Pay and money to my daughter

2020-05-04 Thread Alan Lemly
Joe,

I believe both parties to a transaction with Apple Pay must be using iDevices.
I'll paste the Apple Support article with navigable headings discussing the
process after my signature but it came from this site:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207875

Alan Lemly

Send and receive money with Apple Pay

Use Apple Cash or a debit card in the Wallet app to send and receive money in
the Messages app.

If this is your first time using Apple Pay to send, receive, or request money
in Messages, see what you need to get started.

How to send money in the Messages app

When you send money in the Messages app using Apple Pay, your Apple Cash card
is used to pay first by default. If you want to use a debit card instead, you
can send money directly from your debit card.

Watch a demo to see how you can send money on your devices, or use the steps
below.

On your iPhone or iPad

Open the Messages app, then start a new conversation or tap an existing one.

Tap the Apple Pay button Apple Pay icon. If you don't see the Apple Pay
button, tap App Store icon first.

Enter the amount you want to send.

Tap Pay, then tap the send button Send icon to review or cancel the payment.

Confirm your payment with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

If the person you sent money to has not accepted the money yet, you can cancel
the payment.

Respond to a request for money

Open the request in the Messages app.

Tap the Apple Pay button Apple Pay icon and enter an amount.

Tap Pay, then send your payment and confirm using Face ID, Touch ID, or
your passcode.

To decline a request for money, just ignore the message.

On your Apple Watch

Open the Messages app, then start a new conversation or tap an existing one.

Scroll down, then tap the Apple Pay button Apple Pay icon.

Enter the amount you want to send.

Tap Pay, then review or cancel the payment.

Double-click the side button.

Respond to a request for money

Open the request in the Messages app.

Tap the Apple Pay button Apple Pay icon and enter an amount.

Tap Pay, then double click the side button to confirm and send your payment.

Ask Siri

On your iPhone or Apple Watch, say "Hey Siri," then say something like, "Send
25 dollars to Jane for movie tickets."

How to accept a payment

When someone sends you money, it's securely received and kept in Apple Cash.
You can use the money right away1 to send to someone, spend with Apple Pay, or
you can transfer the money to your bank account or Visa debit card.

The first time that you use Apple Cash, you have seven days to accept the money
that you've been sent. After you accept the terms and conditions, payments are
automatically accepted and added to your Apple Cash card. You might be asked to
verify your identity.

If you send money to someone and they don't accept it, you can cancel the
payment.

Choose your payment method

After you open a conversation in the Messages app, tap the Apple Pay button
Apple Pay icon, then enter an amount.

Tap Pay, then tap the send button Send icon.

By default, your Apple Cash card is used to pay first, unless you turn off
Apple Cash as the default payment method and use a debit card in Wallet
instead. If you pay with Apple Cash and see two cards on the payment sheet,
your Apple Cash balance is less than the payment amount. The remainder will be
funded by one of your debit cards in Wallet. Tap the arrow .

Choose a debit card to pay the remainder.

If you have no Apple Cash balance, you can use a debit card in Wallet for the
entire payment amount. You can see which card is being used on the confirmation
screen.

Use your debit card

On your iPhone or iPad, open a conversation in the Messages app.

Tap the Apple Pay button Apple Pay icon, enter an amount, then tap Pay.

Tap the send button Send icon, then tap the arrow .

Turn off Apple Cash, then choose the debit card you want to use.

Tap Back, then authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

If you turn off Apple Cash as the default method to pay someone in Messages on
your iPhone, it's also turned off on your paired Apple Watch. To use Apple
Cash, you need to turn it on to make it your default payment method again.

How to send a request for payment

When you send someone a payment request using Apple Pay, they can tap Pay, then
change or confirm the amount they want to send.

On your iPhone

Open a conversation in the Messages app or start a new conversation.

Tap the Apple Pay button Apple Pay icon. If you don't see the Apple Pay
button, tap the App Store button App Store icon first.

Enter an amount, then tap Request.

Send your request.

On your Apple Watch

Open the Messages app and choose a conversation.

Tap the Apple Pay button Apple Pay icon.

Apple Pay and money to my daughter

2020-05-04 Thread jkt4960
Good morning,

How do I use Apple Pay to send money to my daughter who lives 160 miles
away. I have a credit card and a debit card in the wallet on my new SE 2020.
I just want to reimburse her for some stuff she ordered online for me.

Thanks for any help,

Joe

Re: Fast charger ipHone8+

2020-05-04 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I really like my anker charger. I can take my iPhone, charger, and a
bluetooth speaker into the livingroom and sit in our recliner and
enjoy listening to a bard book or other cotent. I'm kind of enjoying
my OTR streamer app.

Re: Fast charger ipHone8+

2020-05-04 Thread Malcolm Parfitt

This is obviously twice the power of Apple’s charger.

All of the fast chargers 18 Wats have a USB C socket that will power your
device and also charge the power pack too if that’s what you’re using.

Is the point to see things stored on the router from your iPhone?
Or to see the iPhone through the router?
If you want to see the iPhone, you could just plug it into a USB port on your
computer and see the photos, which is all Apple allows.

In the Files app, if you are trying to see the router via the iP address, it
might work to make sure you are on browse, expand locations, go down to the end
to either home or work, then the more button, then connect to server and see if
putting in that address works.

If not, I’d say it is unlikely; though at that point, I would call Apple
Accessibility…

Hello,

I have a router that calls itself an EE Smart Hub here in the UK that has a
USB2 port to which one can attach a disk or memory stick.

Using Windows it is possible to access the attached storage as:

\\192.168.1.254\usb1\

Where:

192.168.1.254

Is the IP address of the router as seen by attached devices.

Is it possible to access such storages with the stock Apple Files app?

I have a Western Digital My Cloud server here and the Files App is perfectly
happy to connect to it via its address of:

192.168.1.120

I suspect the problem is that the USB share on the router is not given its own
IP address may be the issue here.

There are apps that will scan for and connect to the router’s attached USB
drive but the Apple Files app will not.

Any thoughts welcome..

Hello Adam. I just had a brief poke around for a solution. Unfortunately,
there's no toggle in VoiceOver settings for the screen curtain. Using Siri
isn't an option since it seems to think you want to control curtains connected
via the home kit. The only thought which occurs to me is going into the
VoiceOver commands settings and changing the screen curtain gesture to some
other gesture which isn't already used for something else and might be easier
for her. I cover this sort of thing in the guide I just released last Monday.
You'll find a link to my blog where you can find the guide. It's also on
