RE: Deleting Books In The Audible App?

2020-05-12 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Sieghard,

Yes, the Audible latest version app in the States lets us single finger swipe
on our library titles and offers a remove from device option for any which have
been downloaded to the device. It sounds like maybe the version you have in
Canada doesn't offer that option yet based on what at least one other has
posted on this thread.

Hi Alan,

You say “doing a single finger swipe on a title which has been downloaded to my
iPhone will offer a choice of remove from device”.

Are you saying you can flick up or down on a title and it gives you a
remove/delete option?

This is also new to me and while how Audible has had it for quite some time now
works fine, I wish they did use the rotor and you could flick up to a delete
option on a book.

The way I have to delete books is to first double tap on what I call the
“master delete” button which is to the left of refresh. Once activated each
title I downloaded has a delete button, I have to double tap on it, wait for a
second until Voiceover says “Delete” a second time and then double tap before
the book is deleted.

I agree that it would be silly to allow you to delete books from your Cloud
library, this is where you have all the books you have bought and how else
would you be able to access them. I assume Audible could implement some sort of
feature which would allow you to Hide a book and to then have access to that
hidden section in case you ever want to unhide a book, but as far as I am
concerned I want all my books in my Cloud tab so I can search for any of them
if I want to listen to something a second time.

Regards,

Sieghard

I've got the same buttons and controls Richard detailed in his below message.
Deleting a title is very easy as others have already posted. When I have all
titles selected, doing a single finger swipe on a title which has been
downloaded to my iPhone will offer a choice of remove from device when that
title has focus. This option is not available on titles that are only in the
cloud. I'm a bit confused why deleting an Audible book is causing confusion. It
seems to me that they've got it working well as it is now.

You may be on an older version of the app, or it is different in Canada.

On the bottom, I now only have 4 tabs: Home, Library, Originals, and Discover.

There is no longer a Cloud button or Device button at the top.

Along the top if you select the Library tab, you have these buttons:

Search, Titles, Unread, Collection, All Titles, Not Started, Started,
Downloaded, Finished.

Depending on which one of those is selected, you will find the number of titles
in that section, then a Recent button and a Select button, which I have not
quite sorted out what the Selected button accomplishes.

Sieghard,
It would appear that the Canadian version of audible is different from the US
version.
Alan and I have the same screen. You and Joy have the same screen.
I no longer have the master delete button, etc.
Its quite different.
I'll see if I can do a screen shot and scan it and send it out.

My selections are significantly different. I did only have four tabs at the
bottom for sometime but in the last week or so I went back to having five:
home, library, player, discover and profile. I do still have the cloud and
device buttons at the top.

Ihave my apps set to automatically update and my other apps are up to
date.. I did just go look a few minutes ago (but unwisely went to check
several other options before writing), think it said this is version 3.24.1.
Doesn't make sense to me that the app would be different in the US and Canada
but that of course may well be the case.

In the last few updates Voiceover improvements have been mentioned, but I can’t

It used to be that if you tapped on “Chapters” when listening to a book and

was currently playing. Now if I lost my place I always have to check first in

Hello.
I seem to be having a bluetooth keyboard command mistake I can’t diagnose.
When opening a message in Mail, I try to use control-options-space to open
the message as I should on my Logitech K-480. Sometimes I end up in More
Actions without the phone having announced that’s where I was going, and I’m
in the list of reply, reply all, etc. There is no way to back out without
say entering say reply, then doing cancel and delete draft. So I end up
closing the app and trying again.
I had thought it was a bad keyboard, which I had to change out for another
reason, but I’m still doing the same thing.

Probably a coordination slump but frustrating.
I have an 8 Plus with version 13.4.1.

Shirley,

If you just double tap on a contact and flick right to the last part of the
screen, the block contact will be there. You can also do a 4-finger double tap
at the bottom of the screen when your contact is open.

Bluetooth keyboard. I've seen a full-size one once that someone offered me but
it was broken. if I go that route I'm definitelygoing to want a full-size
keyboard. I've had wicked trouble with carpal tunnel in years past. I don't
need to do anything that might aggravate that such as type on a small little
card size Bluetooth keyboard or even the face of the iPhone.

I believe I listed off the three iPhones that I possess with what version each
of them had on them a day or two ago. That might've been a post that was too

Since you wrote to the iPhone list, I'm guessing you plan to do this with an
iPhone.
I do not know of any scanners that work with iPhones, beyond what you can do
with the iPhone camera itself.
For A4 documents, I'm assuming these are text documents, I think Voice Dream
Scanner is the best solution:
You may also want a scanning stand so you don't have to hold the phone about 12
inches above the document if you are doing a ton of these.
Is the plan for the photos to just digitize them?
If so, just use the Camera and have someone sighted crop them so just your
photo is left.
With photos, you want to follow the same distance ratio as with documents, and
have the phone about as far above the photo as the photo is tall.
That could get tricky which is why you will need sighted assistance to crop the
picture later.

What you wrote was that you bought a cheap 6S, running 13.3.2.

If it is the old iPhone SE, then there is no number in the model name.

It is just an iPhone SE; plain and simple.

Apple confused everyone when they didn't use a number for the SE model and I
gather SE may have stood for Special Edition in house at Apple.

Likewise, the new iPhone SE has no number really; but is often referred to as
the iPhone SE 2020 to help distinguish it from the old iPhone SE.

So, a 6S and SE are not the same animal. However, to confuse things even
further, the SE has the same internal hardware and processing chip as the 6S;
but is the size of the 5S.

And before anyone jumps in to say the iPhone X didn't have a number; it does,
the X is the Roman numeral for 10.

So, I suspect you now have the old iPhone SE since the new iPhone SE released
this year comes with iOS 13.4.1.

You're right, it is fascinating since I don't have an unread option! I can
sort by: recent, length, title and author. That's all of my choices.

I'd love to call them but at least here in Canada they've closed the phone line
so that option isn't currently available and I am really fed up of having so
many excess titles.

Hello.
I seem to be having a bluetooth keyboard command mistake I can’t diagnose.
When opening a message in Mail, I try to use control-options-space to open the
message as I should on my Logitech K-480. Sometimes I end up in More Actions
without the phone having announced that’s where I was going, and I’m in the
list of reply, reply all, etc. There is no way to back out without say entering
say reply, then doing cancel and delete draft. So I end up closing the app and
trying again.
I had thought it was a bad keyboard, which I had to change out for another
reason, but I’m still doing the same thing.
Probably a coordination slump but frustrating.
I have an 8 Plus with version 13.4.1.

However, to confuse things even
further, the SE has the same internal hardware and processing chip as the 6S;
but is the size of the 5S.

And before anyone jumps in to say the iPhone X didn't have a number; it does,
the X is the Roman numeral for 10.

So, I suspect you now have the old iPhone SE since the new iPhone SE released
this year comes with iOS 13.4.1.

You're right, it is fascinating since I don't have an unread option! I can

I'd love to call them but at least here in Canada they've closed the phone line

many excess titles.

Bluetooth keyboard gesture mistake

2020-05-12 Thread Bill Outman

Where can I purchase a stand?

Hi listers,

I need to get a scanner for photos and A4 documents. Wireless would be nice but
not if expensive. The main project is a load of photos my wife has but doesn’t
have the time to scan them herself. Therefore it is my job to do the tedious
task and it would be nice to have simple software that could detect the edges
of the photos automatically and prefereably be voice over accessible. Any
suggestions?

Re: voice over instability

2020-05-12 Thread deidre muccio
Dave, I bought three identical cases all labeled that they would fit a seven
and eight and my six, 6S, and SE 2020 phones all fit the same size case. I
actually showed the man at the store the size of the phones and they were
identical. But the labeling on some of the boxs were not accurate meaning some
cases that were marked for a seven and an eight were smaller. Very
strange.Sent from my iPhone

Richard, I am indeed using the new SC with 13.4.1. There's one more update
I could do. I don't didn't have any trouble with the success using an
issue even earlier version of 13. I think part of the problem when writing
a message you're trying to edit something in a Gmail mail message, is that
I am activating inadvertently the text formatting or all those things that
try and insert themselves like do you want to insert a picture or do you
want to do some kind of text formatting and then it just throws me just
the whole voiceover thing no longer is working with the text that I had
started writing. And like just now I'm dictating this for a second time.
Somehow it just got deleted, the whole message.

2020-05-12 Thread deidre muccio
Richard funny, I came to that same conclusion yesterday! About needing to get a
Bluetooth keyboard.

That might've been a post that was too
garbled for you to understand. I hope I do less and less of that with each new
post I create!

what problems do you have with it? It works, as far as I know, the same way

First, go to the top of the screen, swipe right till you hear, "section

double tap on it and you are taken to the header for that letter. Swipe
right to the contact.
I have no issues whatsoever with this feature.

Do any of you have problems sometimes with Section Index just going into the

especially, since I had gotten so used to just using Section Index.

gather SE may have stood for Special Edition in house at Apple.

Likewise, the new iPhone SE has no number really; but is often referred to as
the iPhone SE 2020 to help distinguish it from the old iPhone SE.

So, a 6S and SE are not the same animal. However, to confuse things even

but is the size of the 5S.

And before anyone jumps in to say the iPhone X didn't have a number; it does,

So, I suspect you now have the old iPhone SE since the new iPhone SE released

Richard, I am indeed using the new SC with 13.4.1. There's one more update I
could do. I don't didn't have any trouble with the success using an issue even
earlier version of 13. I think part of the problem when writing a message
you're trying to edit something in a Gmail mail message, is that I am
activating inadvertently the text formatting or all those things that try and
insert themselves like do you want to insert a picture or do you want to do
some kind of text formatting and then it just throws me just the whole
voiceover thing no longer is working with the text that I had started writing.
And like just now I'm dictating this for a second time. Somehow it just got
deleted, the whole message. i'm afraid to even go back and try and edit this
now for fear it's going to do something quirky all over again. So please excuse
the errors in this message. God how I miss my PC and outlook which I am
responsible for corrupting after trying to delete 27,000 messages or at least
go through 27,000 messages to get rid of the things that were hidden in an
unread folder that were copies of other things that I have long since deleted.
My mistake.

No. the case for the new sE 2020, can be used with the iPhone 8, and 7. But
not the 6, and 6s.

Yes, it will fit. But the camera will be out of line.

And before anyone jumps in to say the iPhone X didn't have a number; it

So, I suspect you now have the old iPhone SE since the new iPhone SE

2020-05-12 Thread Alan Lemly
Ian,

I'd recommend you go to the Apple Store app on your iDevice and start the
process of buying a new iPhone. One of the first things you're asked is whether
you are trading in an older device and it provides information about how the
process works.

Hi all,

I am thinking of trading in my old iphone and Macbook with Apple in order to
buy new ones. One thing I cant find out is how it works while we cant go to
the stores. Could it all be done remotely? If I buy the new items, how long do
I get to return the trade in items and do they send all the necessary
packaging? How do they ensure the condition is right for the value they offer?

I have tried to find this out but frustrated in my wanderings around the store
terms and conditions.

With thanks
Ian

Re: OT advice on trading in old units in apple store

2020-05-12 Thread Kimberly
I traded in my iPhone 7 when I bought my SE 2020. Since I ordered through
Apple, I selected the option to trade in during the ordering process. I got
$120 which will be processed as a refund to my credit card, the same one I used
to buy the new phone. If your phone is newer you will probably get more than I
did. Apple sent the box and a preprinted label for fedex. I packed up the old
phone about a week after I set up the new phone and called fedex to arrange a
pick up which was easy and free. One thing to be aware of when you call fedex,
they need the tracking number on the preprinted label. So you will need some
way to read that number. A few days after the package was picked up I received
an email saying my credit was being processed.

It was very easy and went very smoothly.

2020-05-12 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hello, so when you have audio destination selected in the rotor, it only
appears when you are playing audio or video, when there is an alternative
destination available.

When you select audio destination, you can flick up or down to select the
destinations.

This is my understanding, I hope it makes sense.

Thanks.

Hi all,

Would someone please give me a hard push in the direction of the audio routing
settings in iOS13.4.1? I've been all over the settings and either just totally
brainfarting or just missing it. For clarification it's audio routing and not
the switch to speaker phone setting when the phone moves away from the ear.
Thank much.

My selections are significantly different. I did only have four tabs at the
bottom for sometime but in the last week or so I went back to having five:
home, library, player, discover and profile. I do still have the cloud and

Ihave my apps set to automatically update and my other apps are up to
date.. I did just go look a few minutes ago (but unwisely went to check
several other options before writing), think it said this is version 3.24.1.
Doesn't make sense to me that the app would be different in the US and Canada

RE: Using Live Chat On An Iphone

2020-05-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
What app are you planning to use and when you say "live chat" I assume you mean
by text?
You can use the Messages app and send text or iMessages back and forth and even
include recorded audio messages and you can do the same with apps like WhatsApp
and Facebook messenger, Skype or a number of other apps.

Subject: Using Live Chat On An Iphone

I have never used live chat on an iphone, and only used it once, many years
ago, on a computer. I guess I have always thought it might not be all that
accessible, so have avoided it. I now have an opportunity to use it that would
make the situation a lot more convenient if live chat works okay, so would
appreciate an explanation of how it works and any tips to make it work better.
I would think it would be easier if I am chatting only with one person, rather
than several. Thanks for any opinions.

Hi all,

I am thinking of trading in my old iphone and Macbook with Apple in order to
buy new ones. One thing I can’t find out is how it works while we can’t go to
the stores. Could it all be done remotely? If I buy the new items, how long do
I get to return the trade in items and do they send all the necessary
packaging? How do they ensure the condition is right for the value they offer?

I have tried to find this out but frustrated in my wanderings around the store
terms and conditions.

With thanks
Ian

RE: Deleting Books In The Audible App?

2020-05-12 Thread Richard Turner
You may be on an older version of the app, or it is different in Canada.
On the bottom, I now only have 4 tabs: Home, Library, Originals, and Discover.
There is no longer a Cloud button or Device button at the top.
Along the top if you select the Library tab, you have these buttons:
Search, Titles, Unread, Collection, All Titles, Not Started, Started,
Downloaded, Finished.
Depending on which one of those is selected, you will find the number of titles
in that section, then a Recent button and a Select button, which I have not
quite sorted out what the Selected button accomplishes.

You're right, it is fascinating since I don't have an unread option! I can
sort by: recent, length, title and author. That's all of my choices.

I'd love to call them but at least here in Canada they've closed the phone line
so that option isn't currently available and I am really fed up of having so
many excess titles.

Thanks,
Joy

Are you tapping on the letter in the index when you hear it? I have never
experienced what you say is happening. Perhaps you are trying to go faster
than you should. Try slowing your gestures slightly so you get a bit more

Personally, I've not had any trouble with the section index. However, if it is
not working correctly for you then you can accomplish the same thing using the
search feature in contacts. Just double tap it and put the first one or two
letters in and you should see results associated with those two letters.

2020-05-12 Thread Joy Cyr
You're right, it is fascinating since I don't have an unread option! I can
sort by: recent, length, title and author. That's all of my choices.

I'd love to call them but at least here in Canada they've closed the phone line
so that option isn't currently available and I am really fed up of having so
many excess titles.

Thanks,
Joy

As of high Sierra and later, the command for speech rate has changed in macOS.
Use ctrl-option-command-shift-the arrow keys. This command works all the time.
It’s not at all helpful to reference something you know for one platform that
is not reafvent to another.

Daniel

This is fascinating.
I cannot find any delete button anywhere, Library or downloaded.
Just the option to remove from device.

What about selecting Not Started, so it shows you things you haven’t started
instead of all titles.

You may need to end up calling Amazon customer service, 888-283-1678.

RE: voice over instability

2020-05-12 Thread Richard Turner
What you wrote was that you bought a cheap 6S, running 13.3.2.
If it is the old iPhone SE, then there is no number in the model name.
It is just an iPhone SE; plain and simple.
Apple confused everyone when they didn't use a number for the SE model and I
gather SE may have stood for Special Edition in house at Apple.

Likewise, the new iPhone SE has no number really; but is often referred to as
the iPhone SE 2020 to help distinguish it from the old iPhone SE.

So, a 6S and SE are not the same animal. However, to confuse things even
further, the SE has the same internal hardware and processing chip as the 6S;
but is the size of the 5S.

And before anyone jumps in to say the iPhone X didn't have a number; it does,
the X is the Roman numeral for 10.

So, I suspect you now have the old iPhone SE since the new iPhone SE released
this year comes with iOS 13.4.1.

did I really write SC or SZ, I know it is an SE. And you're right I do have the
most recent update. I wasthinking that the 6S has yet another update I could
graduate to but I don't think I'm going to do that because I'll probably have
the same problems I'm having on the New phone which I was very eagerly awaiting

RE: Deleting Books In The Audible App?

2020-05-12 Thread Richard Turner
Well, on the latest version of the Audible app, I do not find a delete button
at all; but if I touch a title that is downloaded to my device and flick up
with one finger, I find an option to remove from device.
This is running iOS 13.4.1 and the most recent update of the Audible app.

Using Live Chat On An Iphone

2020-05-12 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I have never used live chat on an iphone, and only used it once, many years
ago, on a computer. I guess I have always thought it might not be all that
accessible, so have avoided it. I now have an opportunity to use it that would
make the situation a lot more convenient if live chat works okay, so would
appreciate an explanation of how it works and any tips to make it work better.
I would think it would be easier if I am chatting only with one person, rather
than several. Thanks for any opinions.

RE: Scanning solution

2020-05-12 Thread Richard Turner
Ian,
After reading your post about VoiceOver speed, I realized, you are probably
talking about a flatbed scanner for your Mac.
I believe Cannon scanners work with Mac or Windows, and I would say most of the
USB scanners that do not need a separate power source should do the job for you.
As well as Epson, HP, Brother, and on and on. I do not know if they make any
wireless scanners, probably so, but the accessibility with VoiceOver will
depend on the scanning software, not the scanner. Most are pretty much plug
and play if you go with a USB connected scanner.

Someone else will have to address the software side of the question.

Subject: OT advice on trading in old units in apple store

Hi all,

I am thinking of trading in my old iphone and Macbook with Apple in order to
buy new ones. One thing I can’t find out is how it works while we can’t go
to the stores. Could it all be done remotely? If I buy the new items, how
long do I get to return the trade in items and do they send all the
necessary packaging? How do they ensure the condition is right for the value
they offer?

I have tried to find this out but frustrated in my wanderings around the
store terms and conditions.

With thanks
Ian

You can also just touch the right edge of the screen while in your contacts and
use the section index.

what problems do you have with it? It works, as far as I know, the same way
it worked when first introduced and on every phone I have used.
First, go to the top of the screen, swipe right till you hear, "section
index". flick down until you hear the letter of the alphabet you want,
double tap on it and you are taken to the header for that letter. Swipe
right to the contact.
I have no issues whatsoever with this feature.

Do any of you have problems sometimes with Section Index just going into the
regular contact list? With some 200-odd contacts, it is a little annoying,
especially, since I had gotten so used to just using Section Index.

OT advice on trading in old units in apple store

2020-05-12 Thread Ian Harrison

With thanks
Ian

Re: Qardio arm app

Qardio has other devices you can control through the app including a very good
body weight scale. That may explain the rather general name of the app.

Amazon. But when you search for it, note that qardio is spelled with a q rather

Re: Scanning solution

2020-05-12 Thread Debby Hill
Hi Ian,

I'm not sure I can help you, but I have a couple of questions. Are you looking
to use a Mac for scanning and storage, or do you want to do this with an iPhone
or other device? I know you said there are photos, but do any of the documents
have text and will you need to do ocr?

Good Luck!

Scanning solution

2020-05-12 Thread Ian Harrison

Thanks
Ian
