RE: Apple TV

2021-06-29 Thread Simon A Fogarty
I verry rarely touch the remote for my actual tv now,

Everything I do is with the apple tv remote,
The tv turns on and or off with this new remote
And the accessibility is fantastic
Infact the second gen siri remote is great I haven't touched the 1st gen remote
in the time I've had the 2nd gen.

I highly recommend the apple tv

Otherwise, I'm not sure.

Re: Apple TV

2021-06-29 Thread Mary Otten
I can’t speak to Roku and it’s absolute latest incarnation, but what I do know
about it for my experience is that the voice they use is hideous. I had a Roku
stick, and it was sluggish. And although I have been using synthetic speech
since the DOS days, I found their speech is hard to understand is anything I’ve
ever heard in the synthetic speech world. In other words, avoid it like the
plague.

RE: Apple TV

2021-06-29 Thread jimfettgather
May I suggest that especially with the new remote, Apple TV is wonderful, and
the only part that is sometimes a bit tricky, are the third party apps, like
Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney, HBO Max, and perhaps others, but it is so simple
to turn on Audio Description for many of these apps that I would not use any
other device.
Of course, if you have Apple TV Plus, all of their original programming is
audio described, as is just about all Netflix programming as well.

I do know, but not from firsthand experience, that the Roku app with a Smart
TV is supposed to be accessible, but there are so many different Roku devices,
that each one is different, and you turn on accessibility options differently,
depending on the Roku device that you are using.
Thanks.

VDScanner Not Working

2021-06-29 Thread Karen Poulakos
I know there have been lots of messages on this topic in the past. However,
I didn't really pay attention to them because I wasn't needing the
information.

We currently have a Roku, and are thinking about changing to Apple TV. I
have to admit that I never concerned myself with accessibility, and just let
my husband control the remote, since we seemed to enjoy much of the same
programing.

For those of you who have had experience with both; Which do you prefer, and
why?

Would the Apple TV be as accessible as other Apple devices?

Thanks.

Re: Enabling FTP Transfer in Your Browser

2021-06-29 Thread Richard Turner

FTP clients are fine if the dumbasses that created their website told you it
was an ftp link and not an html link.
So, in this case, I tried using my FTP client but it did not work.
So fixing the browser to download the bloody zip file and in this case, extract
the one .exe driver file, was the very best option possible.

Greetings,
I just found that I could not download a file through an FTP link. After some
searching, discovered this article that explains about browsers recently
blocking FTP links and how to fix it.

Enabling FTP Transfer in Your Browser
Starting in late 2020, web browser developers began disabling FTP (File
Transfer Protocol) file downloads by default. Our assumption is that they
consider such downloads security risks. Artwork makes all of our software
available to customers via FTP so until we change this, our customers still
need to use FTP. This article describes how the user can change the browser to
allow FTP file downloads.
Firefox
Firefox version 86 and later block FTP by default. If you get a strange dialog
box after clicking on an ftp link on one of Artwork's download pages, this is
the reason. (Note - it is also possible that your company's firewall may block
all FTP traffic. Check with your IT department if you are not sure.)

type into Firefox's address bar: about:config

Subject: Enabling FTP Transfer in Your Browser

Greetings,
I just found that I could not download a file through an FTP link. After some
searching, discovered this article that explains about browsers recently
blocking FTP links and how to fix it.

[cid:image001.gif@01D76CB5.3498ABA0]
You will be warned to proceed with caution:

RE: Wired alternative to Apple Lightning earbuds

2021-06-29 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Years ago sony use to be the way to go.

That was a good 25 yr plus ago,
Now, they don't even compare with the apple earpods (wired )

I've got 3 pair of the 3.5mm wired apple earpods sitting in a draw for when the
current ones break or just die.

I don't think Apple is actively doing anything to "hold the market" as you say.
I doubt anybody at Apple would prevent another company to make a similar earbud
and plenty of them exist, but most companies opt to make noise isolating
earbuds which go into your ear and block out most fo the external sounds we all
rely on.

Greetings. A quick update on my situation. I went to the Apple Store over the
weekend and ended up buying a couple of extra lightning earbuds. AS someone
mentioned, they are the best option currently for the sound and price. I'm kind
of a sound/headphone snob, and it doesn't seem like there's a better option out
there. Unfortunately, Apple holds the market on their earbuds. Something else I
don't agree with them on, but not enough to go wireless or to another platform.
I'm not an audiophile, nor am I willing to spend more than $30 on headphones,
but I am picky on how headphones feel and sound. I guess it comes down to me
being a huge lover of music and how it sounds.
Anyway, there you go.

Carolyn,

I don't know what you mean by one of the older wired Apple Earpods but if you
mean one with a 3.5mm connector, Apple still sells those for $19. I expect you
might be able to find them for less at Amazon but I love buying directly from
Apple since you usually get free shipping. Here's the link to the wired Earpods

I agree with you, Wayne, that Apple ear buds are about as good as you can get
for the money too, plus, they are very comfortable even to me with my hearing
aids. I am just so fortunate that a lady on one of the buy/sell lists had some
for sale, and I got two. I had one that came with my 11, so I have three now,
and the one that came with my SE for my computer.

I wish someone had one of the older ones for sale. I'd buy for my Victor

RE: Battery Is not Charging and I can't Type

2021-06-29 Thread Fazil
Thank you very much, Tara-Jee.

As far as typing is concerned, it was my own fault because I set typing to
Standard typing when I was trying to get some emoji’s in a message and then
forgot to set back it to touch-typing. So typing is just fine now, however,
battery problem is still there. It is not charging beyond %80.

I replaced my battery in March so it is still in warranty and I can take it to
AppleStore.

Thanks!

I strongly suspect the problem is with your charging cord. You should be able
to type normally when the charger is not connected if that is the case.

You can try another charger and see if you’re still having charging related
issues.

you should also bring down the battery charge to zero till the phone gets
switched off by itself. You should turn it back on after two or three minutes.
That should fix any issues you may have with the battery gauge.

Hi, Group.

Since yesterday, my iPhone8 with iOS14.6 is not charging beyond %80 and the

My battery is still in warranty, should I take it to the AppleStore?

Thanks!

Re: Battery Is not Charging and I can't Type

2021-06-29 Thread TaraPrakash
I strongly suspect the problem is with your charging cord. You should be able
to type normally when the charger is not connected if that is the case.
You can try another charger and see if you’re still having charging related
issues.
you should also bring down the battery charge to zero till the phone gets
switched off by itself. You should turn it back on after two or three minutes.
That should fix any issues you may have with the battery gauge.

I know what you mean, I have trouble with flat keyboards too. However, with my
Apple Bluetooth keyboard, I put braille or lock dots on certain keys, not the

RE: Wired alternative to Apple Lightning earbuds

2021-06-29 Thread Carolyn
I agree with you, Wayne, that Apple ear buds are about as good as you can get
for the money too, plus, they are very comfortable even to me with my hearing
aids. I am just so fortunate that a lady on one of the buy/sell lists had some
for sale, and I got two. I had one that came with my 11, so I have three now,
and the one that came with my SE for my computer.

I wish someone had one of the older ones for sale. I'd buy for my Victor

I don't think Apple is actively doing anything to "hold the market" as you say.
I doubt anybody at Apple would prevent another company to make a similar earbud
and plenty of them exist, but most companies opt to make noise isolating
earbuds which go into your ear and block out most fo the external sounds we all
rely on.

Enabling FTP Transfer in Your Browser

2021-06-29 Thread Richard Turner
Greetings,
I just found that I could not download a file through an FTP link. After some
searching, discovered this article that explains about browsers recently
blocking FTP links and how to fix it.

[cid:image001.gif@01D76CB5.3498ABA0]

You will be warned to proceed with caution:
[cid:image002.gif@01D76CB5.3498ABA0]
Accept the Risk and Continue.

When presented with the next window, enter into the search box the term "ftp".
You will see a number of settings related to ftp file transfers.
[cid:image003.gif@01D76CB5.3498ABA0]
We are interested in the parameter network.ftp.enabled. If the value is set to
false, then ftp is disabled. We want to change that value from false to true.
To change the value from false to true click on the toggle button.
[click on the toggle button to change from false to true]
After doing this you will see the value is now true.
[The flag for network.ftp.enabled is now true.]
You can close this window; now you will be able to use ftp to download
Artwork's programs.

Google Chrome
By default, Google Chrome will attempt to send you to a different application
in order to use FTP as you can see below when I try to download Qckvu3 from
Artwork's web site:
[Chrome's default behavior for FTP transfers]

To correct this, first type into the address bar: chrome://flags and you will
see the following window:
[the chrome://flags window]
Now type into the search bar: enable-ftp
You should see the flag for enable-ftp. If it is set to Default or to Disabled,
press the label/button and select Enabled.
[set the Chrome flag for enable-ftp to Enable.]
Now all you need to do is to press the button labeled Relaunch at the bottom of
the window. This will restart Chrome and your change will take effect.
Once you have done this, you should be able to download Artwork's software from
our web site using Chrome.
[successful use of FTP after changing chrome://flag enable-ftp to Enable]

Microsoft Edge
Since recent versions of Microsoft Edge are built on Chrome, the instructions
for enabling ftp on Edge are exactly the same as those for Chrome. (see above)

Re: Wired alternative to Apple Lightning earbuds

2021-06-29 Thread Wayne Merritt
Greetings. A quick update on my situation. I went to the Apple Store
over the weekend and ended up buying a couple of extra lightning
earbuds. AS someone mentioned, they are the best option currently for
the sound and price. I'm kind of a sound/headphone snob, and it
doesn't seem like there's a better option out there. Unfortunately,
Apple holds the market on their earbuds. Something else I don't agree
with them on, but not enough to go wireless or to another platform.
I'm not an audiophile, nor am I willing to spend more than $30 on
headphones, but I am picky on how headphones feel and sound. I guess
it comes down to me being a huge lover of music and how it sounds.
Anyway, there you go.

Kindly,
Wayne Merritt

I am quite certain something like that would be available on Amazon, if not it
may just be necessary to use a separate headset for your laptop or other

Re: adapter for USB keyboard and iPhone

2021-06-29 Thread Richard Turner
I have the Logitech K860 which has the dongle and the dongle does work with the
adapter; but that keyboard also has two other bluetooth channels so I can just
use it as a bluetooth keyboard with the iPhone.
The number pad is not used with the iPhone, so it makes for a rather bulky
keyboard.
There are lots and lots of good bluetooth keyboards that are not so large
because they do not have the number pad.

So,I know it can work.
I'll try and find the link to the exact adapter but I'm pretty sure it is just

It has a standard female USB A host port, a lightning port for power if you
need it and a short cable that plugs into the lightning port on the iPhone.

Hello
I just heard about an adapter that allows you to use your USB keyboard to
write on the iPhone. The little nub for a wireless keyboard would plug into
the adapter and the other end would plug in where the charger plugs in.
Would this work on an SE2020? I'd prefer using my regular keyboard to using
the bluetooth keyboard.

Hello Richard

Is the keyboarc that you use the standard large USB keyboard just like that for
a pc. This is very important for me because I have a sensory problem and I can
not feel keys on keyboards which have the keys on the same level. As you know
the keys of the standard pc keyboard have, what I call "steps" between the rows
so that helps me to orient my hands. It would be a dream come true if I can use
my USB pc keyboard with your adapter.
