RE: Question about calendar

2022-10-21 Thread R Van Lant
I like using reminders if it’s something I need to check-off, such as to give
my dog her monthly medicine. I like using the calendar for some things, but
it’s really easy to delete the notification and then move on with life and not
be reminded again. With the reminder, it stays in my notifications and I can
also see it in the reminder app. If it’s a recurring reminder, double tapping
it will mark it complete for that instance.

In general, I love reminders because I can just tell Siri, ” remind me later
tonight to take out the trash” or “remind me on Saturday to call mom”. It’s a
quick way to take ideas I have and get them somewhere were I can flick through
all the to dos.

Subject: Question about calendar

Hello,

If I want my phone to remind me to do something every Wednesday, Should I use
calendar or reminder?
In any case, what should I do?
In one occasion I asked Siri to remind me something, but the phone never did
it. However, the reminder appeared in my Windows pc.
Would anyone please explain what to do to have the iPhone SE20 to remind me an
event?

Re: And So It Begins: Does Anyone Know How to Buy iPhone 14Pro Max with a Physical SIM Tray from within the United States?

2022-10-21 Thread Cris Ali
Hi folks,
I followed this thread with interest, because I travel overseas frequently
enough to be concerned about the lack of physical sim tray in iPhone 14 series
sold in the US. Each time I travel to another country I buy a local sim
specific to the country I am visiting. Usually it takes less than two minutes
to replace my american with the local sim and start using a local number.
Nevertheless, I ordered iPhone 14 Pro and just received it this evening. For
the last three years I have been using an ESIM on my XR in order to keep my
physical sim tray free for the time of travel overseas.
Setting up my new phone was very easy and surprisingly, the automatic transfer
of my e-sim from my XR to my 14 Pro went very smoothly. For the time being, I
will keep my XR saved for travel overseas, just in case I found it difficult to
get e-sims in other countries, and I recommend to any of you who travel
frequently overseas to keep your old phones for this purpose if you upgrade to
series 14.

It is just that the pro models offer LiDAR and door ID like wooden door, four
feet; wooden door, two feet. Also, the 14 Pro gives a sound when powered on and

RE: Question about calendar

2022-10-21 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'd also probably use a reminder. It took me a while to decide when to use a
calendar event versus a reminder versus a to do item. If there's something
happening or going on, even if I'm not going to attend but do want to be aware
of it, then I'll use the calendar. If there's something I need to do in
conjunction with a reminder, like add salt to the water softener every three
months then I'll create a to do list item. I use Microsoft To Do for this. This
also lets me mark it as complete, so I know I did it. I'll use a reminder if I
just need to jog my memory, but don't need to track somewhere that I completed
it. Something like setting my grandfather clocks back or ahead one hour when
the time changes might be an example of this. I don't tend to use very many
reminders, and for all I know, the Reminder app in IOS has the ability to mark
a reminder as complete.

For medication reminders, I've taken to using the Health app on the iPhone and
the Medications app on the Apple Watch. It was a bit tedious to set up, since I
couldn't download the prescription data from my provider, but once I got
everything loaded, it's been pretty slick.

I would set up a recurring reminder. Open the Reminders app, tap on "New" at
the bottom, give it a title/descrition and then tap on date/time and set the
details. One of the options is to make is recurring and you can choose from
options like daily, weekly, monthly etc.

RE: I'm in the Market for a Small iPhone

2022-10-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
As for support, I wouldn't worry too much about it, whether you buy an iPhone
13 Mini, 13 Pro or SE third Gen, they all have the same CPU and will all be
supported the same number of years and it will only be one year less if that
than any of the iPhone 14 models. Most likely you'll be in the market for a new
iPhone before support for the 13 family of phones runs out.

Hi Evan,

Just to clarify some misinformation posted about the iPhone 13 Mini versus the
iPhone SE. I'm currently using the 13 Mini and my iPhone before it was the SE
2020. The SE 2020 has the same physical form factor as the iPhone 7 and 8 and
while the 13 Mini has a larger screen size than the SE, its physical form
factor is actually a bit smaller.

I'm not going to pretend to predict when these various models will be obsolete
but I believe the 13 Mini will be usable for a few more years. I can say that I
really like mine and don't think you can go wrong choosing it.

Good luck with your decision.

Right, but doing the reset home screen layout used to just put the apps on the
screen in alphabetical order and not create those widget stacks, so I was kind
of surprised the first time they got created like that.

I have found that, resetting your home layout screen or your home screen,
layout in settings, under general, and reset being the last option I think, or
second to last option, one of the options after that is after you double tap on
that, is reset, home screen layout, and I found that actually does the trick in
getting the widget stack back to the way. It was pretty simple.

will correct any errors I may have made. Oh, and I am in the United States and
currently using an iPhone 12 Mini and an iPhone 13 Mini with iOS 16.0.3, if
that makes a difference.

Unless I’ve missed it, I’m kind of surprised that no one has mentioned this
widget thing before you started mentioning it a month or so ago. Since I like
to keep all my apps in alphabetical order, when I had gotten some of them out
of order a few months ago and then reset my home screen, I was surprised to
find those stacked widgets as the first things at the top of my home screen.
But since resetting the home screen again only brought them back, I just
decided to live with them.

When I read your question earlier today, I started looking around again, as
since I had decided to live with the widgets, I also wanted the weather to show
up first and then the calendar to show up when I did the one finger flick to
the right. Thus, it kind of looks like if I double tap and then hold on the
weather icon at the top of the screen, then wait to hear the sound to indicate
that a context menu has shown up, then flick left and right with one finger
till I hear edit stack, then double tap on that edit stack button, then put my
finger down towards the bottom of the screen and find the smart rotate button,
then double tap on it to turn it off, then find the done button in the upper
right corner of the screen, and then double tap on that done button to save the
change, weather and calendar should stay constant there and not change to maps
or photos or whatever Apple thinks I want to see at the time.

The only way I can figure to get the weather icon back on the first page is to
delete the widget stack, which it kind of sounds like you already did, and then
move the icon back to the first page, so I’ll try the steps from the beginning
with the widgets intact and see what happens. I once again put my finger on the
weather icon on the first page, then I double tap and hold on that icon till I
hear the sound, then I flick left and right till I find the remove stack
button, then I double tap on that remove stack button, then I flick to the
right to the remove button when prompted to confirm, and then I double tap on
that remove button. Now to get the weather icon back on the first page, keeping
in mind that that will then reorder the placement of the rest of the apps. From
the first page on the home screen, I do a three finger swipe to the left to
bring up the second page, then I put my finger on the weather icon on the top
left of that second page, then I flick down with one finger and hear edit mode,
then I double tap and hear started editing, then I put my finger on the weather
icon again, then I flick up with one finger until I hear drag weather, then I
double tap on the drag weather, then I hear find my as that is the next app on
the page, but I flick right with three fingers to get back to the first home
screen, then I find facetime in the upper left of the home screen, then I flick
down with one finger until I hear drop weather before facetime, then I double
tap on that drop weather before facetime, then I hear drop complete once I have
done that and weather is once again in the top left of the first page.

FAQ in Apple Store app

2022-10-21 Thread vcollins5286
This isn't really a big deal to me but just something I noticed when looking
over the information about the new iPhones using the Apple Store app. Their
frequently asked questions section, at least for me, seems to show the
expand button for each question, where one can double tap on that and see
the answer to the question, but the specific question itself doesn't appear
to be read unless one turns on the screen recognition feature. I've tried
this with both an iPhone 12 Mini and an iPhone 13 Mini running iOS 16.0.3,
and I am in the United States.

I open the Apple Store app.

I then scroll down to Shop by Product and select iPhone.

I then select one of the iPhones, say iPhone SE, for example.

I then scroll down to near the end of the information about the SE and
select the Frequently Asked questions.

I then see the list of questions with each having an expand button, but the
questions themselves don't read unless I enable screen recognition.

RE: I'm in the Market for a Small iPhone

2022-10-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is the opposite, the iPhone SE has a 4.7 inch screen and the iPhone 13 Mini
has a 5.4 inch screen.
The reason why the Mini with it's significantly larger screen is almost not
bigger is because it doesn't need space for the home button and the bezels
around the screen are smaller.
The difference in physical size (length and width) is so small that it is not
really noticeable unless you put one on top of the other.
Both SE third Gen and 13 Mini have the same A15 processor and actually the 13
Mini wasn't as popular or as good of a seller which is probably the main reason
why Apple is not making a Mini any more. Of course so far it seems the 14 Plus
is also not going to be flying off the shelves. Small phones like the SE and
Mini seem to be a thing of the past at least for now because the next iPhone SE
is going to have a 6.1 inch screen and will apparently be similar to the iPhone
XR in design with no homne button.

And do not buy a regular iPhone 14, you are getting a phone which has the same
A15 processor as the iPhone 13 family since Apple only put the new A16
processor into the iPhone 14 Pro and pro MNax this year. You would be much
better off with a 13 Pro over a regular 14, you get the same processor but you
gain the liDAR sensor which is in all Pro models since the iPhone 12 Pro, but
it is not in the regular models like the regular iPhone 12/12 Mini, 13/13 Mini
and 14/14 Plus and neither is it in the SE. Here are the dimensions and weights
of both the 13 Mini and 13 Pro and this comes directly from Apple's website:

iPhone 13 mini
5.18 inches tall (131.5mm)
2.53 inches wide (64.2mm)
0.30 inches thick (7.65mm)
4.94 ounces (140 grams)

iPhone 13 Pro
5.78 inches tall (146.7mm)
2.82 inches wide (71.5mm)
0.30 inches thick (7.65mm)
7.16 ounces (203 grams)

iPhone 13 Pro is larger and heavier as 13 Mini by these numbers:
Tall: 0.6 inches (15.2mm)
Wide: 0.29 inches (7.3mm)
Thickness: same
Weight: 2.22 ounces (63 grams)

In other words, the most noticeable difference would be the height/length, the
13 Pro is just under 5/8 of an inch taller which is about as much as most
people's pinky finger or maybe their index finger.
In width it is only a bit more than a quarter of an inch wider, if you look at
the difference in millimeters, 7.3mm is a little less than the 7.65mm thickness
of both the 13 Mini and 13 Pro. This means if you put a 13 Mini on top of a 13
Pro you could stand another iPhone on edge and it would cover the difference in
width.
The most noticeable difference is probably the weight, but as I said, you
should really see if you can't go to an Apple store and handle both phones to
see if the Mini is as much smaller as you think or if that size difference
really matters to you.

Apparently, the iPhone Mini was a very popular line, so there was some
dissapointment when a new version wasn't released this year.

I'm wondering though, if I get a 13 Mini, if it will be more likely to go
obsolete before an SE model or a standard 14 model.

If that is unlikely, then I'm kind of leaning toward that model. It's still for

The SE is close to the same size as the Mini, although according to what I've

RE: And So It Begins: Does Anyone Know How to Buy iPhone 14Pro Max with a Physical SIM Tray from within the United States?

2022-10-21 Thread Richard Turner
Here is an article that may help. Link to web page is at the end.

What do eSIMs mean for switching network?
using phone

This is perhaps the key advantage of eSIMs. As it stands switching networks can
be fiddly and time-consuming, but eSIMs look set to change all that.

Because they are rewritable, you can essentially change networks as you please
if your carrier supports the tech.

Best of all, you can store more than one plan on a smartphone's eSIM (although
you can only use one at a time), so you can chop and change depending on where
you are in the world.

The hope is that eSIMs will make switching seamless, without the usual fuss of
phone calls, demands for PAC numbers and waiting for the switch to take place.

EE is offering dedicated QR codes which can be scanned to activate eSIM–based
accounts.

Head of eSIM Strategy at Sim Local, Gary Waite, said: "Switching networks today
means having to get hold of a new SIM card, either by visiting a retail shop or
waiting for one to arrive in the post. Then, it means physically removing the
old SIM card from the device (and locating that special tool or bending out a
paperclip) then inserting the new one - hoping the new SIM card is the right
size for the device! All these steps are tedious enough to put many people off
switching networks at all.

"eSIM turns all of the above into a few simple menu taps. And whilst phones can
typically only hold one SIM card, an eSIM-enabled phone can hold several eSIM
plans at the same time, with the user easily able to switch between them.

"Some networks were worried about the advent of eSIM because they felt that
churn would rise as a result of the ease of switching. As a matter of fact,
customers who look to switch to eSIMs will still need to adhere to pre-pay and
post-pay contracts.

"One key benefit for the consumer with eSIM is when they travel abroad. They
can now download a local SIM plan after they arrive at their destination (or
even before they get on the plane). As nearly all eSIM-enabled phones also
support dual-SIM technology, they can benefit from low cost data and still
receive calls from their friends and family on their home number."

Which networks support eSIMs?
iphone deal networks

Major UK networks like EE, VMO2, Vodafone and Three all support eSIMs in some
format – although Vodafone's eSIM efforts are still limited to iPad and Apple
Watch contracts.

What are the other advantages that eSIMs offer?
In terms of current devices, the biggest draw of eSIMs is being able to quickly
add a second telephone number to go alongside that's attached to your main SIM
card.

That means that you can have two phone numbers on a single device, which is
very handy if you have separate business and personal lines but don’t want to
lug around a second phone all the time.

Then there’s the added bonus for travellers. While cheap roaming is becoming
increasingly prevalent, often it pays to have a local number if you’re in a
different location for a longer period of time.

eSIMs mean you can activate a local line on your device without having to go to
a local provider and arrange a price plan.

If your eSIM uses a different network to your standard SIM, you can easily
switch between the two. This is especially useful if data coverage is poor on
one but not the other.

On the latest iPhones, you can assign one SIM as the primary line for services
like FaceTime and iMessage, while using the other as a secondary SIM for basics
such as calls.

>From a design perspective, eSIMs also mean that phones should become even
>slimmer, with no need for a SIM tray.

The chips themselves are much smaller than the cards currently used in most
phones, leaving mobile manufacturers space to either trim the size of handsets
or add other essentials, such as larger batteries.

As you might expect, Gary Waite of Sim Local sees lots of benefits to eSIMs.
According to him, "The SIM card, although it has progressively shrunk in size
over the years (mini-SIM to micro-SIM to nano-SIM) is still quite a large
component in a mobile device – too large for smaller devices like smartwatches
and other wearables. eSIM reduces the hardware requirement down to a chip less
than 2mm, therefore opening the door to a whole new range of small device form
factors.

"Even in smartphones, real-estate inside the device is incredibly valuable, and
the space taken up by the SIM card can be used for other purposes, including a
bigger battery. Many will remember Apple ditching the headphone socket in the
iPhone 7 for that very reason. Therefore, removal of the SIM tray brings new
opportunity space, not to mention the additional advantage of device
waterproofing.

"It’s not just consumer devices that benefit either, eSIM solves many problems
in the world of IoT (Internet of Things). Consider a smart meter manufacturer,
deploying millions of electricity meters across the country. Today, each of

2022-10-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I would recommend the iPhone 13 Mini, but before you decide I'd take a look at
the 13 Pro if money is not a huge concern. You could of course also consider
the latest 14 Pro, but that would for you to decide. Here are a few reasons why
I suggest 13 Mini or 13 Pro/14 Pro:

1. The SE third Gen is probably a fine phone, but it still has a Touch Id
virtual home button. I know many people buy it for exactly that reason, but
personally while having both Touch Id and Face Id would be best, if I had to
decide between Touch Id and Face Id I would choose Face Id. There is also the
fact that the Se third Gen may very well be the last phone with a home button
and Touch Id unless (as I said earlier) they introduce under display Touch I
dat some point in addition to Face Id. I am saying this because I just read an
article where John Prosser, who has a pretty good track record with his
predictions, is revealing first information about the iPhone SE 4th Gen which
is expected to be released next spring as the new lowe cost iPhone. According
to that article that new iPhone SE may look a lot like an XR with a big notch,
but it appears that the home button may go away and since I doubt Apple will
put a Touch Id capable side button on any phone I guess this means it will of
course have Face Id. I would get used to using a phone without home button from
the start even though having an iPad you of course would be used to a home
button, but if this rumour about the fourth generation SE is true then it means
we will never again see an iPhone with a home button.

2. I mention the 13 Pro or 14 Pro because you should really check them out and
hold them in your hand and compare then to an iPhone 13 Mini. They really are
not all that much larger physically, but you get the benefit of the LiDAR
sensor which is required for features like door detection and maybe other
things in the future.

Lastly, I wouldn't buy an SE because I think having the ability to use MagSafe
accessories such as charging pads, cases and external batteries is very nice
and to my knowledge not even the third Gen iPhone SE has MagSafe. I assume the
13 Mini has it, but definitely the 13 Pro and 14 Pro have it.

RE: Getting Weather Widget Back On iPhone Home Screen

2022-10-21 Thread Vicky Collins
This is a little long, but I hope it makes at least some sense and that someone will correct any errors I may have made. Oh, and I am in the United States and currently using an iPhone 12 Mini and an iPhone 13 Mini with iOS 16.0.3, if that makes a difference. Unless I’ve missed it, I’m kind of surprised that no one has mentioned this widget thing before you started mentioning it a month or so ago. Since I like to keep all my apps in alphabetical order, when I had gotten some of them out of order a few months ago and then reset my home screen, I was surprised to find those stacked widgets as the first things at the top of my home screen. But since resetting the home screen again only brought them back, I just decided to live with them. When I read your question earlier today, I started looking around again, as since I had decided to live with the widgets, I also wanted the weather to show up first and then the calendar to show up when I did the one finger flick to the right. Thus, it kind of looks like if I double tap and then hold on the weather icon at the top of the screen, then wait to hear the sound to indicate that a context menu has shown up, then flick left and right with one finger till I hear edit stack, then double tap on that edit stack button, then put my finger down towards the bottom of the screen and find the smart rotate button, then double tap on it to turn it off, then find the done button in the upper right corner of the screen, and then double tap on that done button to save the change, weather and calendar should stay constant there and not change to maps or photos or  whatever Apple thinks I want to see at the time. The only way I can figure to get the weather icon back on the first page is to delete the widget stack, which it kind of sounds like you already did, and then move the icon back to the first page, so I’ll try the steps from the beginning with the widgets intact and see what happens. I once again put my finger on the weather icon on the first page, then I double tap and hold on that icon till I hear the sound, then I flick left and right till I find the remove stack button, then I double tap on that remove stack button, then I flick to the right to the remove button when prompted to confirm, and then I double tap on that remove button. Now to get the weather icon back on the first page, keeping in mind that that will then reorder the placement of the rest of the apps. From the first page on the home screen, I do a three finger swipe to the left to bring up the second page, then I put my finger on the weather icon on the top left of that second page, then I flick down with one finger and hear edit mode, then I double tap and hear started editing, then I put my finger on the weather icon again, then I flick up with one finger until I hear drag weather, then I double tap on the drag weather, then I hear find my as that is the next app on the page, but I flick right with three fingers to get back to the first home screen, then I find facetime in the upper left of the home screen, then I flick down with one finger until I hear drop weather before facetime, then I double tap on that drop weather before facetime, then I hear drop complete once I have done that and weather is once again in the top left of the first page. Sent from Mail for Windows From: Margaret ThomasSent: Friday, October 21, 2022 11:14 AMTo: V iPhone listSubject: Re: Getting Weather Widget Back On iPhone Home Screen I did some more web searches and one from Hadley that the "transcript" was just a sample, but it gave me a hint that I tried with "VoiceOver Quiz and Answers: Rita's iDevice Advice for  December 27, 2021" that I mentioned.  I have partial success.  I once again have a weather widget, but, unfortunately, it's on page 2 of the home screen and not on page 1 where it's more convenient.  I was wondering if I can manage to get it on page 1 if I can remove the one on page2 or should I remove the one on page 2 and try again to get it on page 1? Many thanks, Margaret  On 10/21/2022 12:38 AM, Margaret Thomas wrote:> Good Evening, All:> > I thought maybe I had reached enough of need to know on the learning > curve for my SE 2 that I could try a little want to know or curious > about things with the phone and had heard weather widget  stack so many > times on my status bar that I decided to try to investigate widgets.> > When I got the phone home from the Verizon store, it said   Cupertino > and the weather there and not my town and weather in the status bar that > was very annoying.  Several days> later, I asked my computer tech who was here for something else if he > could turn off raise to tap and he did and my town and weather were > magically in the status> bar instead of Cupertino when I looked at the phone when he left.  Maybe > he changed it which was helpful, but I have no idea what he did, so I > hadn't a clue about how to add a widget to the home screen.> Somehow, in my various phone misadventures, I

This is exactly what I was thinking. Although I am a fan of switching sim cards
to play with other phones, I do imagine that someone will come up with a way of
easily transferring an ESim from one phone to another. Question is would this
be a user accessible possibility? I have no idea but I imagine some resourceful
hacker type person will come up with a way.

And if all you have to do is transfer your e-SIM from your old iPhone to your
new one during the setup process of your new phone it would be just as easy
peasy.
I understand why people who make a living reviewing products have multiple
phones and want to transfer a SIM from one device to another a lot, but I never
understood why somebody would want to spend all that money to buy 2 or 3
high-end phones and use one this day or this week and another the next. I would
venture a guess and say that this is a pretty small minority among phone owners.
I haven't really read up on this, but I understand that transferring an e-SIM
from an old phone to a new one is a pretty easy and straight forward thing. I
actually switched to an e-SIM on my iPhone 11 because I wanted the physical SIM
tray to be available for when I travel to the Philippines with my wife. I
haven't bought a new phone since then so I didn't have to transfer said e-SIM.
Anyways, if there is an easy way to transfer an e-SIM between 2 or 3 devices
whenever one wants to do so then the argument about the physical SIM becomes a
mute point. From the little I did read all it may take is a QR code from your
carrier and then to scan said QR code to transfer the e-SIM and before I would
moon over the lack of a physical SIM I would certainly want to inform myself as
to how easy or not it is to switch e-SIMs between the devices I have.

The sad reality is, every time Apple shows "courage " look out, it means that
somethings about to get taken away. Just like every time something is done in
the name of "safety" it usually means some right or liberty is about to get
taken away, that's as far as I'll go into that on this list though. Good luck
in being able to get the phone that you want with a Sim tray. For my part, I'm
going to hold onto my SE3 which is working quite nicely and suiting my needs.

In any case, what should I do?

Would anyone please explain what to do to have the iPhone SE20 to remind me an

Re: I'm in the Market for a Small iPhone

2022-10-21 Thread Evan Reese
Thanks Chris, I am used to the Home button, since I've used one on my
iPad Mini for years. That is a point in the SE's favor.

About battery life, that is also a good point. But I'm willing to get a
bit less battery life in exchange for the smaller size.

So it looks like I'm going to be looking at two options, the iPhone 13
Mini, and the iPhone SE third generation.

Once I get my hands on them, then I can make a final decision.

Thanks to all of you for some good info.

Just a couple more things Evan. Keep in mind that normally in a smaller phone
factor comes less battery life. I would say that both phones have decent
battery life, but nothing compared to the bigger phones. Of coarse, battery
life is dependent on how much the phone is used every day. The second thing
is, and you did not say this mattered, but the iphone SE uses touch ID and has
a home button, and the iphone 13 uses face ID and has no home button. Just a
couple of things that you should keep in mind when looking at the different
iphones.

I would say that both the iphone 13 mini and the iphone SE will work good for
you for several years and I would guess 4 to 5 years depending on usage and how
good the battery life holds up.

It is said, that the reason the mini is no longer in the lineup of the new
phones is because of sales. And I personally think that having two iphones at
the smaller form factor is why the mini is going away. The SE is a very
popular model, and the SE sales is a lot more, and this is probably because the
price of the SE is less than the mini. So I do not think either phone is a bad
choice. Like anything else, it comes down to personal preference.

I don't really need the absolute top of the line, but I figure that if I'm
going to get one, I do admit to feeling that it would be cool to get a really
nice one, especially if I can get it in a small package, particularly since I
hope to be using it for a good while, given that these things are not cheap.

I'll let you know what I get.

If that is unlikely, then I'm kind of leaning toward that model. It's still for

The SE is close to the same size as the Mini, although according to what I've

I was wondering if I can manage to get it on page 1 if I can remove the one on

RE: Question about calendar

2022-10-21 Thread Richard Turner
I would use Calendar.

I would go into the Calendar settings under Settings, Calendar, and set a
default alert time for however much time you want to be alerted for
appointments. If you don’t want all appointments to sound alerts, then in the
details of the appointment you are setting in the calendar, be sure to enable
alerts and then you can pick to be alerted at the time of the appointment, 5
minutes before, 15, 30, up to one or two days I think.

Under Sound settings, you want to pick a sound that will get your attention.

I find reminders are not so clear even though I have a good sound set.

I miss reminders, I never miss a calendar appointment.

something else if he could turn off raise to tap and he did and my town and
weather were magically in the status bar instead of Cupertino when I looked at
the phone when he left. Maybe he changed it which was helpful, but I have no
idea what he did, so I hadn't a clue about how to add a widget to the home
screen.
Somehow, in my various phone misadventures, I inadvertently added maps and
photos under the weather widget and had a stack. At this stage, I have almost
no need of either of these two and thought I could remove them from the stack
and keep the very important weather widget. I read a bunch of old posts and
listened to a podcast by Thomas Domville on "How to add, remove, and customize
widgets in iOS" on Applevis, but only found how to rearrange items in a stack
and how to remove a stack.
I tried removing one of the widgets I didn't want and probably didn't get far
enough along to find a do you really want to delete this widget and landed on
delete stack instead.

an old post VoiceOver Quiz and Answers: Rita's iDevice Advice for December 27,
2021 "51. What are Widgets and how do you add them to any screen of apps on
your iPhone?

Answer: How to Add Widgets to Your Home Screen. The extra widget options you
can add to your Home screen. Adding these can range from fun, such as adding
featured photos, to useful, such as having the weather front and center for
your daily planning.
Note: These instructions were written for sighted persons, who are not using
voiceOver. If you are using VoiceOver: when the instructions say "Tap on an
item", perform a one finger double tap.
1. Unlock your iPhone if it is locked.
2. Press your Home screen until the icons start to wiggle.
3. Tap the Add button in the top left corner.
4. Apple will suggest widgets. If your desired widget is there, tap it.
5. If you don't see the widget you want to add, scroll down or use the search
bar at the top of the feature.
6. Tap Add Widget.
7. Tap Done." in doesn't work for me. How can a blind person tell when the
icons start to wiggle? I have a hearing problem and can't get the podcast by
Thomas Domville on "How to add, remove, and customize widgets in iOS" on
Applevis to work either. He did something to get VO to
announce column numbers that I missed and my Today View on IOS 15.6.1
does not sound like his demonstration:

https://www.applevis.com/podcasts/how-add-remove-customize-widgets-ios

Also, I'm not clear about what size widget to choose to get all the extras like
barometric pressure when I double tap on the widget.

My weather app is on screen 2 of my Home screen.

I'd be extremely grateful if anyone can help me get weather back prominently
like it was before.

I'm confused. What's meant by the iPhone 13 Mini becoming obsolete? I can't see
that it won't be able to run on cell networks for years, and it'll keep getting
IOS updates for at least as long as any other iPhone 13. This will almost
assuredly be for just one year less than the iPhone 14 models. Apple may not
have put out an iPhone 14 Mini but that doesn't mean they won't have something
comparable to the Mini down the road, and it doesn’t take anything whatsoever
away from the current iPhone 13 Mini. Unless you're looking for that extra year
of IOS updates, I don't see any reason not to go with an iPhone 13 Mini and
then choosing your next phone in a few years when you're ready. Who knows what
your options will be then. Sorry if I missed the point here.

I kind of wonder if you'd want a 13 Mini. It has no Home Button. An SE3 does
have a Home Button, but you might want more battery. Now, whether or not the
mini has more battery, I don't know, but someone on the list probably does know
that information.

Subject: I'm in the Market for a Small iPhone

Hey Guys,

I'm familiar with iOS. I've been using an iPad Mini for over six years.
I've never owned an iPhone yet though, and I'm now looking for one to buy.

Even though I'm familiar with iOS, I'm not familiar with specific iPhone
models, and I'm in the market for one.

I want a small one. My manual dexterity is good, so I'm sure I can use it. But
I don't want to sacrifice power or memory.

Could people tell me which models I should be looking for that are on the
smaller side?

Assume price is no object. I'm not saying that I'm gonna buy the most expensive
iPhone I can get, I'm just saying that I will look at prices once I know what
my best choices are for a small model.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: I'm in the Market for a Small iPhone

2022-10-21 Thread Chris Chaffin

There's a setting specifically for deciding this. Go into the "Home Scren" area
of settings. There, you can choose whether newly downloaded apps are added to
your home screens or simply put in the library. Other settings in there let you
decide if notification badges are shown in the library as well as in the home
screen. You can also decide whether searches are shown on the home screen. I
believe this has to do with when you use spotlight search. Hope that helps.
