Re: Accessibility of Qardio Arm?

2022-12-03 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,

Just to clarify the first cancel button does in fact cancel things it's
that second one that people might miss as I did that seems to do the trick.

Take good care,

Robin

Hi,

I was just in the app this morning and strangely after taking a reading and
getting the results there was no next button only a cancel button which of
course when hit caused your reading not to be saved in history. I didn't have
the time to play to see if turning on screen recognition would yield the more
expected next button that let you proceed with your saving result and then the
done button or not. I was just curious if anyone else had encountered this new
seeming glitch with accessibility.

Take good care,

Robin

Sieghard,

Physically, the SE 2020 and 2022 models are a bit larger than the iPhone 13
Mini. The 13 Mini has a slightly bigger screen dimension due to how its form
factor is designed but if physical size is an issue for carrying in a pocket,
the 13 Mini is a bit smaller.

Re: SE 2022

2022-12-03 Thread Julie Dawson

The iPhone SE 3: A More Practical Phone for Some Use Cases
Submitted by Scott Davert on Thursday, March 31, 2022.

This review was completed after 10 days of use. Most of my comparison will
be with the iPhone SE 2, since that was the phone I had been using
previously. For the sake of clarity, when referring to the previous
generation of iPhone SE released in 2020, it will be referred to as the
iPhone SE 2. Apple refers to the current model of iPhone SE simply by that
name. This was also true of the first and second generation.

The iPhone SE 3 is a step forward in some respects, but not in others.
Reviews from the mainstream are generally positive, though everyone feels
the need to comment on the older design. This review from CNet details how
the new iPhone SE 3 compares to the SE 2 and other devices on the market. I
will not spend much time discussing the mainstream features, as other blogs
have already done this. I will, however, be discussing how the new iPhone SE
3 functions from the blind and DeafBlind user’s perspective.

It’s the same, only not
If you line up an iPhone SE 2, SE 3 and iPhone 8 side-by-side, it is
impossible to determine which phone is which based only on size. The
physical profile of each device is nearly identical; so similar are the 3
models that you can use the same cases on all 3 phones. I purchased a Mophie
Juice Pack after being very confident in the rumors about the SE 3, and it
fits perfectly on the new iPhone, just like it did on the SE 2.

As noted in the linked review, the iPhone SE 3 doesn't have multiple rear
cameras like you would find on the flagship iPhone 13 series. It also lacks
the LiDAR sensor found on the iPhone 13 Pro. Another missing feature is the
U1 chip, which means that if you are an owner of AirTags, you will not be
able to take advantage of the precision finding features which provide
useful information when locating an AirTag.

The Setup
In my review of the iPhone SE 2, I noted that I was unable to transfer data
from one device to another unless all other Bluetooth devices connected to
my other phone were turned off. When setting up my iPhone SE 3, I left my
braille display and hearing aids connected to the SE 2 and found that the
transfer between that and the new iPhone worked flawlessly. This is a major
improvement, since I did not have to try using speech only through the
internal speakers to complete the transfer.

In 2018, the Universal Serial Bus Implementers Forum (USB-IF) approved a new
Human Interface Device (HID) standard for braille displays. USB-IF is a
non-profit organization comprised of many industry-leading companies such as
Microsoft, Apple, and Google. Their goal is to advance USB technology to
make it more useable. What this means for consumers is that, if both the
braille display manufacturer and mainstream technology manufacturer support
it, you will be able to start a screen reader, plug a display in via USB and
have access to braille with no further effort required. It will be
unnecessary to find and install drivers, connect via Bluetooth or change
settings before plugging your display into a USB port supporting the new
standard.

In 2020, Humanware announced that its forthcoming collaborative efforts into
the braille display market with APH will also support the standard when it's
released.

I decided to see if the HID Standard would work with the iPhone SE 3 2 years
after the announcement. Sadly, it did not work during the initial setup, but
did after the initial configuration. One limitation I found to the USB
connection was unresponsiveness from the braille keyboard after the screen
has been locked. This issue can be resolved by either restarting VoiceOver,
or unplugging the display and then plugging it back in. It may also be worth
noting that the braille display customized commands that have been set up
under Bluetooth do not appear to work when connecting to USB. Though Apple
indicated to me that they are not officially supporting the standard, I
thought it would be a good idea to try it out anyway.

Battery Life
The iPhone SE 3, according to Apple, will give the user 1 to 2 more hours of
battery life than the SE 2. I would say that I get several hours more than I
do with my SE 2. The SE 2 cannot give me enough power to last a full day
without a battery case these days, but that could be because my location
does not have reliable cell phone coverage. This was not an issue 2 years
ago when I worked at a different location and was testing the iPhone SE 2,
so I don’t feel confident in commenting on how the SE 2’s battery life was
when new compared to the SE 3. Running 5G certainly offers a speed boost
over 4G, and doesn’t appear to run down the battery any more than when 5G is
disabled. That said, I do not stream HD video content, which is where the
user would most likely encounter the further battery drain. Streaming audio
did not seem to impact battery

Hi Julian and all,

Yes it does indeed thank you. Guess I'd been a bit lax in checking readings so
hadn't noticed the change till this morning. It didn't help my reading either
hahaha.

Thanks so much for the tip I appreciate you letting us all know.

RE: SE 2022

2022-12-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The SE 2022 has the same A15 processor as the iPhone 13, 13 Pro and in fact
also the iPhone 14 since tis year only the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max got the
new A16 processor.
It has the smaller 4.7 inch screen and a virtual home button, but physically it
is not much smaller than an iPhone 13 Mini which has Face Id.
I think you won't be unhappy with either phone, if you like the SE phones with
a home button this will be a good upgrade and will be very familiar to you
except of course it will be more responsive and have much better battery life
than your old SE/.

Hi All,

Sorry folks, I'm resending since I butchered the first message.

I'm running iOS16.1.2 on an SE2020 phone and I'm getting the following spoken
in my ADT Pulse app.

Weather, partly cloudy, 55 masculine ordinal degrees

How do I make Siri Male voice 1 speak only, degrees, for the above? This voice
never used to speak the masculine ordinal lingo before iOS16.

Also, when I swipe one more time here's what is reported, Living room
thermostat, current temperature 65 degrees button, calendar, sign or diagram

The same voice never used to speak the calendar, sign and or diagram lingo
before iOS16 either, and why does Siri voice speak degrees without the
masculine ordinal in this dialog but not the prior dialog?.

I'm sure this is all related to iOS16 but, could I have turned something on or
off that may have triggered this abnormal speaking? If so what could it be?
All input is greatly appreciated and graciously accepted. Thanks mooy moocho.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Hi robin,

As of several updates ago, the button that you press to go to the next screen
is mislabeled. If you look for the button on the lower part of the screen that
used to be the next button, even though it says cancel, double tap it anyway
and that will take you to the next screen Where you then look for the done
button on the upper right to save it to your history. Hope that helps.

Re: NFL audio

2022-12-03 Thread Andy Baracco
What I do with NFL Plus is to tap on the Scores tab, find the game I want to
listen to and tap on it. If you want to switch feeds, tap on the Watch tab and
you can select your feed there. Keep in mind that you may not hear audio at
first, because for some reason the volume is set at zero, but if you raise the
volume on your phone you will hear the audio.

Being that I don't care anything about the archived or condensed games, I
have the $5 a month version. I can not speak to the accessibility of the
features I don't use. After the posting of the excellent directions to this
list earlier in the season, I have been able to get it to play the games I am
interested in, most of the time with the radio broadcast I want. It is almost a
case of figuring it out again every time, it is getting better, though. I would
have subscribed to xm, but I don't care enough about the other things on xm to
want to pay $11 a month for it, so I wanted to see if I could make this $5 a
month nfl service work. I wouldn't want to pay any more a month for it.

Re: Masculine Ordinal and Calendar Diagram Being Spoken

2022-12-03 Thread Mike B.
Hi All,

Sorry folks, I'm resending since I butchered the first message.

I'm running iOS16.1.2 on an SE2020 phone and I'm getting the following
spoken in my ADT Pulse app.

Weather, partly cloudy, 55 masculine ordinal degrees

How do I make Siri Male voice 1 speak only, degrees, for the above? This
voice never used to speak the masculine ordinal lingo before iOS16.

Also, when I swipe one more time here's what is reported,
Living room thermostat, current temperature 65 degrees button, calendar,
sign or diagram

The same voice never used to speak the calendar, sign and or diagram lingo
before iOS16 either, and why does Siri voice speak degrees without the
masculine ordinal in this dialog but not the prior dialog?.

I'm sure this is all related to iOS16 but, could I have turned something on
or off that may have triggered this abnormal speaking? If so what could it
be? All input is greatly appreciated and graciously accepted. Thanks mooy
moocho.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Re: What's happened to the share sheet?

2022-12-03 Thread Øyvind Lode
This looks like a bug.
I have the same problem.
I can't swipe left/right through the options/apps etc on the share sheet.
Exploring the screen seems to reveal more options.

Re: NFL audio

2022-12-03 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Being that I don't care anything about the archived or condensed games, I have
the $5 a month version. I can not speak to the accessibility of the features I
don't use. After the posting of the excellent directions to this list earlier
in the season, I have been able to get it to play the games I am interested in,
most of the time with the radio broadcast I want. It is almost a case of
figuring it out again every time, it is getting better, though. I would have
subscribed to xm, but I don't care enough about the other things on xm to want
to pay $11 a month for it, so I wanted to see if I could make this $5 a month
nfl service work. I wouldn't want to pay any more a month for it.

Re: Accessibility of Qardio Arm?

2022-12-03 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,

I was just in the app this morning and strangely after taking a reading
and getting the results there was no next button only a cancel button
which of course when hit caused your reading not to be saved in
history.  I didn't have the time to play to see if turning on screen
recognition would yield the more expected next button that let you
proceed with your saving result and then the done button or not. I was
just curious if anyone else had encountered this new seeming glitch with
accessibility.

Take good care,

Robin
