logging into spotify foracebook isandes

2016-07-06 Thread Eden Kizer
Hi, I use spotify on my fhone, my computer and now my braillenote. I have
always used facebook to log in. I recently had issues with my facebook due to
the ineptitude of another device to log in correctly, and I had ! change my
password. I immediately changed them on my phone and braillenote and had no
problems with either. Facebook was logged in and reading timeles. However when
I went to log back in with spotify because it needed rebogging in, it flaked
said new password was wrong. Tried it everywhere else and it's still working
fine but spotify kept sending me to a page to rechan forassword. I uninstalled
spotify plus all relevant data on mz braillenote and it logged in fine next
time. However uninstabbling spotify on my phone did not bring the same result.
Is there something else I need to do? Please help.

The only time I've had trouble with Tune-In is when I have somehow accidentally
put it in car mode. At that point you have only 3 or 4 things on the screen and
can't go back to anything else. Once in car mode you will not hear a button to
get you out of it. I believe the button is in the top right hand corner of the
phone when you are in the app. This might require sighted help to rectify, if
this is your problem.

Let's clear this first and foremost. You do not buy the music in Apple Music;
you rent it, like you would rent a movie from Netflix. When you download from
Apple Music, it is like downloading anything else to your device; space will be
taken up on your device. You can, however, store as much music as you want in
your iCloud Music library. This does not count towards your free 5 GB plan for

It is recommended you use wifi unless you have a high or unlimited data plan to

Hi Eden.
Have you tried changing the rotor with speech turned on, and it's still not
working? Sometimes, braille fails to show the rotor announcement and the only
way to fix it is to turn speech on and then back off again. I assume you are
using space with dot 6 or dot 3 to move within that setting, and space with 5-6
or 2-3 to change what element you are navigating by?

 Hello.
Using the Braille Edge, and attempting to read Bookshare books in read
2 go, you have to be able to scroll up and down, instead of scrolling
 left to right.
I am trying to find out the Braille command to scroll up and down by
page, but I can only find a way to scroll left and right.
I can find the standard bluetooth keyboard command, option up and
option down, but am looking for the braille equivalent.
 Thanks for any assistance.

I have not found a way to do this except when moving apps such as into folders.
Other times, you may need a Bluetooth keyboard. Some people have said you can
use that type of gesture on that. I don't have to use it much so not sure if
anyone has found a workaround I don't know about.

I'll sure be no help there, I must admit, but i can offer encouragement, and I
know you seem talented in your job, and I don't see a lot of errors coming from

certain way and then they start transferring you to another way. I wouldn't
want to change how I did htings after 38 years either, and I have never
understood the rampant need for pictures to describe everything, and when
sighted people are working, they really don't like all those pictures covering
the scren anymore than we do At least, that's what my boyfriend says.

Yeah, and if I can get this training done and actually begin working I may
consider this with the scripts but have to get all the preliminary stuff out of
the way, if I can. Very discouraged at this point, it isn’t my MT knowledge
that is holding me back it is their stuff and so far about 50% has been
inaccessible. They sent me a document so full of pictures that I could not
even print and then scan it back in and the lady said she had to “actually type
the document” so I could read the instructions. Made me chuckle, it was not
that long and typing it probably took a matter of a minute, provided she could
read through the pictures, that is.

Never having seen, I can’t understand why someone would put pictures over
words as it was described to me. Even the Optacon would have had trouble had I
tried to use it.

I guess since it sounds confusing to me, I don’t see how someone with good
vision would make sense of it.

  Then what do I know.

Week to go and I feel as ready for this transition as I felt on my first day
at the hospital using a MagCard typewriter a Lanier tank system with one take
that was always getting off track. One report, a discharge summary by an
OB-GYN I only understood the “thank you” at the end of the report.

Then you have family who talked me into a custom-made desk, brought it and
unloaded a shelving unit that was about 40 years old which had paper and other
stuff in it but they used the large empty boxes I had been saving to unload my
desk in the hospital and when I said those were for my office, they said they
put my office stuff in them. LOL, now I have to find more boxes in less than
six days.

If it can go wrong lately it will.

I want to dig a hole, climb in, and pull it in after me; this whole
transition thing makes me feel really dumb.

i think that any way you do your transcription and are productive that it is
ethically fine. I was told by Houston Lighthouse that i needed to be using a
qwerty keyboard. Why would I do that when i type 60 wpm on a qwerty and 200
wpm on a braille keyboard. That's simply good math. I will obviously get
better line counts the faster I can type without errors. IN my opinion,
however you get the information written down shouldn't matter. All that should
matter is that you produce and do it accurately.

Yes, I remember several years back I was on a USNEWS Group and several
transcriptionists ere using Dragon and making a lot of lines doing it, most of
them had hand problems, and I sort of had them after 39 years of transcription.

I remember at the time I wondered if what they were doing was ethical but I
guess since they were being public about it if was okay.

Anyway, Nuance when questioned did not say we could not do that eventually.

Oh, thought that's who they were, the ones who do Dragon and Vocalizer

thing called J-Say to make that work accessibly. That would be an interesting
way to get the line count up if it worked well though, and wasn't too expensive.

where I could totally commit to learning transcription, but now that I am, one
of the things I was wondering about is has having IPhones made some of the
reference materials more accessible? Of course, one can go simply go online,
but when you are transcribing, I would imagine it would seem easier to be able
to look up something quickly on your phone without googling something. I was
just wondering if any medical transcriptionists were on the list, and are you
using any IPhone apps or other types of references like this? I use Windows
for my computer, but like i said, I thought this might help keep the computer
less cluttered while transcribing. A lot of the compter reference materials
seem to be hogs. You may contact me offlist. Thanks.

I attempted to do this years ago, but I just was not in a state of being
where I could totally commit to learning transcription, but now that I am, one
of the things I was wondering about is has having IPhones made some of the
reference materials more accessible? Of course, one can go simply go online,
but when you are transcribing, I would imagine it would seem easier to be able
to look up something quickly on your phone without googling something. I was
just wondering if any medical transcriptionists were on the list, and are you
using any IPhone apps or other types of references like this? I use Windows
for my computer, but like i said, I thought this might help keep the computer
less cluttered while transcribing. A lot of the compter reference materials
seem to be hogs. You may contact me offlist. Thanks.

2015-03-08 Thread Eden Kizer
So this one is accessible, thanks so much for responding. Which company are
you now working for? I know we corresponded, but honestly with the meds I
myself was on at the time, I was no good. Think I'll do better with a clearer
mind and more help from rehab when I ask for it. i'll try that IPhone
reference. I mostly use braille with my IPhone and have a display for computer
and the IPhone so it's lovely.

comcast Iphone app

2015-01-09 Thread Eden Kizer
Hello, I am a new comcast customer, i was talking a little aoubt the TV
guide thing which is not the app, but I also have the remote app. The
search feature on it would let me voice search last night but not today,
and I reinstalled, made sure mike was turned on and it kept saying there
was a problem with your voice search. Does anyone have experience with
hthis, can't I search with my stupid iOS device keyboard it doesn't seem
so and even if you can, the IPhone doesn't tell you what is showing up
on your TV screen. The TV talking guide sometimes works to tell me this,
but as everyone nows, that's still in beta so I am just trying to make
these apps work. Everyone at comcast says their stuff is so accessible
and have an accessibility line, but everyone I talk to is just reading
the same manual I can, and none of them are blind so I am feeling lost.
If someone can help, i'd be very very appreciative.

I am going to do a podcast review of their services so I want to make
sure I give an accurate representation as to how well something works.
I want to make sure the issues I am having are not mine alone or find
out how to fix them so I can write a review that accurately reflects its
usability as I've seen numerous people write inaccurate ones mostly
saying things are not accessible when they are. In this case, i am
being told by the company it's accessible, but I am having trouble. The
comcast TV app seems to work fine, but the remote one is somebody's idea
of a joke so far.

Comcast app plus a little off topic with talking guide

2015-01-07 Thread Eden Kizer
Hi, i am putting comcast back in my home later this morning after dismal
service from Centurylink. I am getting Comcast cable. How accessible
is this app, can you control the box with it, and/or have people found
the talking guide easier to use. I would appreciate any tutorials or
guidance on the comcast app and the remote options if people using the
app also has access to that info. I can not locate a podcast or
tutorial on this one at all either for the talking part of the box or
the talking app part, and even if all buttons are labelled, it might not
be easy to igure out how to navigate, keep in mind i will be using a
bluetooth keyboard or braille display so sometimes double tapping and
holding can be difficult unless someone has a workaround.

braille sense on hand 8.1.2 a problem

2015-01-06 Thread Eden Kizer
Ok, I used to could enter my ITunes password with no problem, I would
tap the cursor above the edit field, and then I would attempt to type
having grade II turned on which used to work I tried it the other way
too no go can't enter with my braille sense, I can navigate my screen
perfectly, it's only entering text that is a problem. I can deal with
this with most things using dictation or a bluetooth keyboard, but I am
not sure you can dictate a password nor how to say like cap a letter
then not cap some and such. I have always found entering text with the
display more cumbersome than the bluettooth keyboard, but I still prefer
to use the sense only if I can get away with it for most tasks so
disappointed and wondering why I can no longer do this.

Not so on IOS 8. Has anyone found work-arounds for this?

filling up IPhone

2014-12-29 Thread Eden Kizer
Wel, i have a problem, how do i get downcast to delete podcasts or will
it imeediately do so after I am done. I also notice spotify has a lot
of stuff and all I did was save stuff to my library, but it didn't say
download, but yet it says I have almost a gig in skype, what i mean is
will i need to go within each applicattion to delete things, and I am
trying to stream spotify and downcast stuff not to download it. Is
there a way to see all the files too because I think there might be some
things converting into my Itunes that I didn't even want there. Is
there a way to look at and delete individual media files on my phone
itself or does this have to be done in ITunes? I just don't want to
suddenly not have room, only like 5.5 megs is taken up by ITunes stuff
that I downloaded, but yet I only have 2.5 left to put stuff in so I
need to try to figure out how to get some of this stuff from all these
programs out. Thanks.

posting to twitter and facebook

Ok, I hear you can post to twitter or facebook using siri, but I tried,
and it said twitter wasn't set up, I have twitterific, and I tried
putting it in my contacts. does this mean I have to set these things up
in the native twitter app and facebook app? Or am I incorrect and siri
won't do this on the fly? Sometimes, like last night, I didn't have
time to go into twitterific and post. Thanks.

computer speakers

2014-12-09 Thread Eden Kizer
Ok, I want a pair of speakers that can fit on my desktop, that I can use
to play stuff on my IPhone or my computer such as by a jack for either
device. My current computer speakers don't do this. I want something
with a fair amount of wattage, good range, volume knob, preferably base
knob changes, and I want something that is good sound, but I really
prefer not over $200 and preferably less, but I am looking for something
decent. I have Logitech 320 or something right now, but they don't have
a very full sound in my opinion, it all kind of sounds flat. Any help
here. I am not looking for a bluettooth connected pair, just ones that
will let me connect them to my computer and IPhone.

Re: reading menus with the KNFB reader - Re: how are people liking KNFB reader?

2014-12-08 Thread Eden Kizer
I actually know for a fact my family doesn't find it annoying. I can
read braile faster than they can read to me. It is a personal

tell me how mine would react, please, as you don't know my family any
more than I know yours.

I fully agree with your message below. Being independent is one thing, but

For example, just because I can do something a certain way doesn't mean it's
always the best way to do that certain way. If I am with someone and they
have offered to help me go over the menu, it's going to be more time
efficient to let that happen that way instead of me taking a picture of the
menu of each page and then deciding what I want after they have already
decided 10 minutes ago. To me being independent is figuring out the most
practical and efficient way of getting the job done.

Hi Eden,

Would you actually go to a restaurant with your family and try to use KNFB

want and then wait to see if you get a good result?
I value independence as much as the next person, but if I walk into an
elevator with a friend, family member or even a bunch of strangers, I
don't have to push the correct button just because it has braille if
others who are pushing their own floor are already asking me and I can
just tell them which floor I want. The same for me applies to a restaurant
menu. I guess if I were by myself it would be one thing to use KNFB for
this instead of asking the waiter or waitress to read it, but usually
choosing a meal when I go out with friends or family becomes a
conversation anyways and I don't feel that anybody thinks I am not
independent just because they are reading this information for me.

When I dine, I am usually with others, and I don't like the idea of
holding everyone else up just to show off. I would prefer a Braille menu,

When I dine, I am usually with others, and I don’t like the idea
of holding everyone else up just to show off. I would prefer a
Braille menu, or better yet, an online menu that I can take my

2014-12-06 Thread Eden Kizer
I have some products that have nothing to do with blindness and people
would probably want to see them. It has been suggested to me that I can
not make a decent youtube vid from my IPhone, I would like to know how
this is not the case when others have said the IPhone 5 has a better
camera than some regular cameras. Others are saying I need a point and
shoot camera. Keep in mind, I am not doing something professional, it
is a hobby to review certain things I buy, show what it looks like, but
I don't want to show my face mostly because I move a lot and that would
detract from my presentation. I would do just audio, but I doubt the
sighted part of my audience would apreciate this. Comments, am I better
using a point and shoot camera hooking to my computer or can I do an
adequate one on my IPhone.

Here is the announcement from their web site from November 22nd:
Revving Up for the Road Ahead

Serotek Team - November 22, 2014 - 9:00am

Serotek is undergoing some changes to better meet your needs as a digital
consumer. The assistive technology industry has been shifting for a while now,
and it would be foolish to believe yesterday’s formula will continue to work in
today’s age of wearable technology, smart homes, and interconnected media.

Understandably, there may be questions about the longevity of the products and
services you have come to rely on. For years Serotek has thought outside the
box to deliver the most affordable solutions with the best customer and product
support, and there are no plans to reverse this pattern of innovation to meet
you where you need us.

You may also be wondering about the future of the SeroTalk Podcast Network,
arguably one of the leading content providers on all things technology. There
is a time to cover headlines, and there is a time to create them. As long as
the community remains interested, SPN will evolve alongside its parent company.
For now, we have to deal with the reality of blunt, but truthful, comments such
as that left by one loyal customer who wondered if we were finally going to
stop socializing on the podcasts and finally get back to product development.

Given the number of conflicting rumors surrounding the popular platform, the
story is this: Ownership of SPN was offered to Joe Steinkamp and Ricky Enger
under a highly attractive earn-out formula. Serotek offered to continue
financing the website, podcast, and production and platform hosting required to
maintain a consistent user experience. Serotek is aware of the value they
provided to the community. Unfortunately, they elected not to accept this
offer. The Serotek team has no doubt Joe and Ricky will be a valuable asset to
the community in other capacities and wish them all the best in their new
endeavors.

Our goals were not to eliminate people, but rather, to realign the company
structure and shift company functions that are hindering growth, steps that
were required to keep Serotek from becoming one more casualty of the new
landscape. It is unfortunate that three other teammates abruptly opted to
follow other directions, but we respect their choices and also wish them the
absolute best in whatever they pursue.

Change is sometimes a scary prospect. Yet change moved us away from the cell
phone to the smart phone, from the TV to the tablet, and from yesterday’s
computer to today’s cloud. We’re working hard to keep you in the middle of it,
where you belong. Contrary to competing rumors, Serotek is not down for the
count. We’re squarely in your corner and ready to meet the next phase with the
same fervor we’re well known for.

Stay tuned. The best is on its way, and you are going to be a part of it.

Regarding online banking: what you are talking about is offerred by
many of the banks people have mentioned. I have not heard of a bank
which only operates online, though I wouldn't be surprised if one
existed. I don't know if the online bank would exist very well in
our society since most people like the option of going to a physical
location and talking to someone if an issue or concern comes up. Or,
if they simply want to deal with a real person. Most of the major
banks and credit unions have online banking services, such as Chase,
Wells-Fargo, Bank of America, and many others. I use Chase and I have
had no issues with their app. I can even transfer money between
accounts in the Chase app. I used to call the toll free number for
Chase once or twice a day to hear my balance and other information.
Now, I open the app. Chase offers a service where you can sign-up for
different email alerts, such as low balance alerts, when checks or
transactions clear your account, and many other kinds. This is another
way that I stay on top of my accounts.

Online banking is like Facebook: you can do as much or as little as
you want. Some banks, like Chase, offer online demonstrations so you
can see the kinds of information you would find in an account summary.
Go to your bank's site and see if you can find something like this.

Good luck,
Wayne

Re: bluetooth keyboard again

2014-11-24 Thread Eden Kizer
I see, so this is not just me, ok then. Sigh, I just won't be able to
use my phone much now then until my braille display comes back as it
doesn't have this problem, and I can never find the dictate button on
the phone either. I'm just not a good IPhone user without my braile device.

Re: downcast or overcast

I like downcast so far good ease of use, also enjoying lire and
twitterific, learning all kinds of good new aps.

i don't want to, but I need to make folders, which things from the home
screen can I actually move. Most things I just open with Siri, but I
like my interesting apps to be on my first page, but I know you can't
move ones in the dock, but what about the rest of them? And when I move
it like say to second page, how do I make it just go on the second page
and not try to create a folder with another app?

of the features that Downcast includes by default. I think Downcast is
a buck or two cheaper if that matters. Anyway, Downcast meets all of
my needs so I haven't made the switch. I also like that I can do a
keyword search or look at top podcasts in different categories in
Downcast. Overcast may do this too, I don't know.

Voiceover at least with my iPhone 5 is not as snappy though it can be

The one plus that Overcast does have over Downcast in my opinion is that it
can play files at the 3x speed. While Downcast has this option, it hasn't'
worked for quite a few updates now. Playback begins to skip at this level in
Downcast making it unusable. I've written the dev about it and even though
he says it's on his list of bugs to fix, it's never been addressed in any of
the numerous updates since the skipping first started. Doubt it will be
fixed at this point.

When you download Twitterific the first time it tells you what the

tweets and being put in the right place. Also when you send a URL to
Instapaper from Twitterific, it just sends the URL, not the article,
meaning you have to go through the inconvenience of opening the
article, then sending it to Instapaper from that screen. Why on earth
the Twitterific people think there is any value in sending just the

So while I'm concerned that Tweetlist seems to have been abandoned,

Hello, everyone.

I am currently evaluating Spotify, TIDAL, and Rhapsody, three
streaming music services. All of them work with VoiceOver more or
less, but it may be that none of them works perfectly. TIDAL mentions
VoiceOver support in its product description on the Apple App Store.

I'm curious to learn which service you have found to be the most
VoiceOver-accessible. Can you name VoiceOver-related problems that a
particular service has? Please note that I am not interested in any
music service that does not allow for a specific track to be played on
demand. Pandora is an example of a service that does not allow
on-demand playing of a track.

Thank you for all help.

Re: seeking advice on purchase of first iphone

Ok, so now you've got me curious, I have Verizon this phone I think will
only work Verizon, but it works the prepaid verizon too. I pay $49 a
month for unlimited text and dtalk, but the data is terrible 500 megs
and $10 each extra meg, can someone tell me is there a better plan, and
maybe since I can use with no contract phone, does that mean it'd work
with another carrier? I believe the problem is Verizon is TDMA, and
aren't most others GSM?

On 11/23/2014 10:23 AM, Kelly Pierce wrote:

Dear Susan,

As my article mentions, the first step in joining the iPhone tribe is
in learning about the coverage and reliability of the wireless service
in your area, the area to which you are moving, and the places where
you visit frequently. A family member’s relationship with ATT may be
a perfect fit for them. It may not be for you, particularly if you
live or travel to places the other person does not. Once you have
figured out if all, some or none of the four national wireless
networks have consistent and reliable coverage, it is then time to
focus on prices. T-Mobile has low-priced plans, although these are not
advertised and not available in stores. The deals come for the other
three carriers when resellers buy data and airtime in bulk at a deep
discount and resell it at very low prices. A just released survey by
Consumer Reports found high dissatisfaction with the major national
carriers but high customer satisfaction levels from the resellers. You
can enjoy nearly all the benefits from the sprint, ATT or Verizon
networks at one-half to one third of the cost of what most of those
customers pay. True, the resellers do not offer the roaming the big
boys offer, but unless you plan to go to sparsely populated areas
regularly, like the upper peninsula of Michigan or northern Nevada, it
is not an issue for most people.

The 5S will cost less, but it is important to realize that iPhones
essentially have an expiration date. This is because the iOS software
and apps will no longer be useful long before the solidly built and
well-manufacture iPhone breaks and cannot be repaired. If the iPhone
is kept in a hard shell case and away from water, the hardware will
last for many years. Apple stops supporting iPhones after about four
years from first release. If Apple maintains past practices, the 5S
will receive its last major iOS in 2017 and will not take new updates
starting in fall 2018. You will pay more for the iPhone 6, but you
will have a year longer of use along with a better camera for OCR on
the fly and Apple Pay, which could be a much bigger thing in the
future.

Dear Susan,

Under the ATT terms of service document, which is available online in
fully accessible format, only one statement is generated for a family
plan account. Family members not the phone company are responsible for
divvying up the bill and paying the primary account holder what they
owe. Each line has a two-year contract. If you are moving in a year,
you should be certain of the ATT coverage for your new area as it
might be expensive to back out of a contract. Different parts of the
country usually have great service from one or two carriers but not
another. It would not surprise me to learn that you may be moving from
an area with good ATT coverage to an area with poor coverage.
Inconsistent service quality from local area to local area is common
with the national carriers.

If you have WIFI at home, download the app updates, NLS books, and
other big files on WIFI. You will rarely need more than one gig of
data.

If you are looking for inexpensive plans, consider the $30 T-Mobile
plan for unlimited data and text and 100 voice minutes. Free calling
apps like Vonage and Magic Jack can bridge the difference for most
people. Ting, which uses the Sprint network, also offers a $30 plan.

I wrote the article ‘iPhone on the Cheap” on AppleVis. The most
expensive part of owning an iPhone is the cost of monthly service, not
the phone itself. In researching the article, I found that most people
bought much more service than what they needed or used. It was as

The search field in the App Store still shows whatever you searched

You cannot have the keyboard paired to two devices at the same time.

Then, your computer can connect. But, you will have to disconnect it from the

Subject: amazon basics keyboard questions

First off, how exactly do you unlock your phone using this keyboard,
Raul explained this in his podcast, but I just didn't get it, sorry?
Also, what if I want to pair this with my computer sometime will it work
with Windows, and if I use it with the computer, how do I keep it from
manipulating my Iphone or my computer respectively. If not possible, I
need to know this too. Also how does one double tap and hold with the
keyboard commands for moving apps around and such? Thanks.

braille displays and bluetooth keyboards

2014-11-21 Thread Eden Kizer
I am woefully aware at this moment how dependent on my braille device I
am. Between my hearing starting to drop a little and the fact that my
hands always act like an instrument, the touch screen is useless to me.
I have this bluetooth keyboard which is great, but I am certainly
overwhelemd by learning a whole new set of commands. I already know 2
screenreaders, use a braille notetaker commands for its regular use, use
it with my IPhone, and I just think I am having trouble using all the
commands plus the key command structure is a little different. there
have been some great podcats on this subject, but can anyone give me
some ideas about how they keep all this straight, using my keyboard
accidentally touched something that started opening everything I
touched, but I am not sure what I even did, going crazy. I may be
having IPone withdrawals for a week as at this rate, I'll be lucky to
answer the phone.

I hate sending braille display units in for repair.

Re: braille displays and bluetooth keyboards

2014-11-21 Thread Eden Kizer
sorry, I think my screen is too sensitive for one thing, but it may be
just that my hands move around, and I think the reason I may have been
just opening things on the keyboard is I didn't know the command wel
enough. I think I am confused as to when you can use quick nav and when
you can not, and we don't have to use the rotor as much with braille
displays so this is a nightmare for me, lol.

When you said you accidentially touched something that made everything you
touched open, are you talking about using the keyboard or touching the screen
with your finger?

If VoiceOver is on, nothing opens without either a two finger split tap with
your finger or a double tap with one finger.
Or, holding down several keys at once on the keyboard.
This is beginning to sound like there may be a problem with the keyboard.
Or, are you talking about the braille device? Again, it takes several keys to
open anything.

amazon basics keyboard

2014-11-21 Thread Eden Kizer
I see that F4 does play music or is supposed to haven't checked, but
will it answer a phone call to since play on headsets and stuff answers
calls. Just curious as hitting 3 keys just to answer a call seems silly
although I use 2 on my braille display or more often than not with a
phone call, I can do that gesture at least on the screen. And is
control working again in the newest update so I can shut the speech up
and if I am just having it read the whole screen, if I want to stop on
an item to select it, how do I do this? I am sorry if my questions
sound convoluted, maybe it's my own confusion.

2014-11-21 Thread Eden Kizer

got a busy signal. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? i am very
concerned as I thought all cell service had call waiting as I was on a
call but that is very strange.
