Someone was asking how to activate the focus for typing. I don't use a focus on my IPhone, but you would probably use the same gesture to double tap and the edit box should come up if you have all your settings right. Made me chuckle, it was not that long and typing it probably took a matter of a minute, provided she could read through the pictures, that is. Never having seen, I can’t understand why someone would put pictures over words as it was described to me. Even the Optacon would have had trouble had I tried to use it. I guess since it sounds confusing to me, I don’t see how someone with good vision would make sense of it. Then what do I know. Week to go and I feel as ready for this transition as I felt on my first day at the hospital using a MagCard typewriter a Lanier tank system with one take that was always getting off track. One report, a discharge summary by an OB-GYN I only understood the “thank you” at the end of the report. Then you have family who talked me into a custom-made desk, brought it and unloaded a shelving unit that was about 40 years old which had paper and other stuff in it but they used the large empty boxes I had been saving to unload my desk in the hospital and when I said those were for my office, they said they put my office stuff in them. LOL, now I have to find more boxes in less than six days. If it can go wrong lately it will. I want to dig a hole, climb in, and pull it in after me; this whole transition thing makes me feel really dumb. Re: medical transcription reference material
i think that any way you do your transcription and are productive that it is ethically fine. I was told by Houston Lighthouse that i needed to be using a qwerty keyboard. Why would I do that when i type 60 wpm on a qwerty and 200 wpm on a braille keyboard. That's simply good math. I will obviously get better line counts the faster I can type without errors. IN my opinion, however you get the information written down shouldn't matter. All that should matter is that you produce and do it accurately. comcast Iphone app
Hello, I am a new comcast customer, i was talking a little aoubt the TV guide thing which is not the app, but I also have the remote app. The search feature on it would let me voice search last night but not today, and I reinstalled, made sure mike was turned on and it kept saying there was a problem with your voice search. Does anyone have experience with hthis, can't I search with my stupid iOS device keyboard it doesn't seem so and even if you can, the IPhone doesn't tell you what is showing up on your TV screen. The TV talking guide sometimes works to tell me this, but as everyone nows, that's still in beta so I am just trying to make these apps work. Everyone at comcast says their stuff is so accessible and have an accessibility line, but everyone I talk to is just reading the same manual I can, and none of them are blind so I am feeling lost. If someone can help, i'd be very very appreciative. I am going to do a podcast review of their services so I want to make sure I give an accurate representation as to how well something works. I want to make sure the issues I am having are not mine alone or find out how to fix them so I can write a review that accurately reflects its usability as I've seen numerous people write inaccurate ones mostly saying things are not accessible when they are. In this case, i am being told by the company it's accessible, but I am having trouble. The comcast TV app seems to work fine, but the remote one is somebody's idea of a joke so far. Comcast app plus a little off topic with talking guide
Hi, i am putting comcast back in my home later this morning after dismal service from Centurylink. I am getting Comcast cable. How accessible is this app, can you control the box with it, and/or have people found the talking guide easier to use. I would appreciate any tutorials or guidance on the comcast app and the remote options if people using the app also has access to that info. I can not locate a podcast or tutorial on this one at all either for the talking part of the box or the talking app part, and even if all buttons are labelled, it might not be easy to igure out how to navigate, keep in mind i will be using a bluetooth keyboard or braille display so sometimes double tapping and holding can be difficult unless someone has a workaround. braille sense on hand 8.1.2 a problem
Ok, I used to could enter my ITunes password with no problem, I would tap the cursor above the edit field, and then I would attempt to type having grade II turned on which used to work I tried it the other way too no go can't enter with my braille sense, I can navigate my screen perfectly, it's only entering text that is a problem. I can deal with this with most things using dictation or a bluetooth keyboard, but I am not sure you can dictate a password nor how to say like cap a letter then not cap some and such. I have always found entering text with the display more cumbersome than the bluettooth keyboard, but I still prefer to use the sense only if I can get away with it for most tasks so disappointed and wondering why I can no longer do this. filling up IPhone
Wel, i have a problem, how do i get downcast to delete podcasts or will it imeediately do so after I am done. I also notice spotify has a lot of stuff and all I did was save stuff to my library, but it didn't say download, but yet it says I have almost a gig in skype, what i mean is will i need to go within each applicattion to delete things, and I am trying to stream spotify and downcast stuff not to download it. Is there a way to see all the files too because I think there might be some things converting into my Itunes that I didn't even want there. Is there a way to look at and delete individual media files on my phone itself or does this have to be done in ITunes? I just don't want to suddenly not have room, only like 5.5 megs is taken up by ITunes stuff that I downloaded, but yet I only have 2.5 left to put stuff in so I need to try to figure out how to get some of this stuff from all these programs out. recording youtube videos
I have some products that have nothing to do with blindness and people would probably want to see them. It has been suggested to me that I can not make a decent youtube vid from my IPhone, I would like to know how this is not the case when others have said the IPhone 5 has a better camera than some regular cameras. Others are saying I need a point and shoot camera. Keep in mind, I am not doing something professional, it is a hobby to review certain things I buy, show what it looks like, but I don't want to show my face mostly because I move a lot and that would detract from my presentation. I would do just audio, but I doubt the sighted part of my audience would apreciate this. Comments, am I better using a point and shoot camera hooking to my computer or can I do an adequate one on my IPhone. Here is the announcement from their web site from November 22nd: Revving Up for the Road Ahead Serotek Team - November 22, 2014 - 9:00am Serotek is undergoing some changes to better meet your needs as a digital consumer. The assistive technology industry has been shifting for a while now, and it would be foolish to believe yesterday’s formula will continue to work in today’s age of wearable technology, smart homes, and interconnected media. Understandably, there may be questions about the longevity of the products and services you have come to rely on. For years Serotek has thought outside the box to deliver the most affordable solutions with the best customer and product support, and there are no plans to reverse this pattern of innovation to meet you where you need us. You may also be wondering about the future of the SeroTalk Podcast Network, arguably one of the leading content providers on all things technology. There is a time to cover headlines, and there is a time to create them. As long as the community remains interested, SPN will evolve alongside its parent company. For now, we have to deal with the reality of blunt, but truthful, comments such as that left by one loyal customer who wondered if we were finally going to stop socializing on the podcasts and finally get back to product development. Given the number of conflicting rumors surrounding the popular platform, the story is this: Ownership of SPN was offered to Joe Steinkamp and Ricky Enger under a highly attractive earn-out formula. Serotek offered to continue financing the website, podcast, and production and platform hosting required to maintain a consistent user experience. Serotek is aware of the value they provided to the community. Unfortunately, they elected not to accept this offer. The Serotek team has no doubt Joe and Ricky will be a valuable asset to the community in other capacities and wish them all the best in their new endeavors. Our goals were not to eliminate people, but rather, to realign the company structure and shift company functions that are hindering growth, steps that were required to keep Serotek from becoming one more casualty of the new landscape. It is unfortunate that three other teammates abruptly opted to follow other directions, but we respect their choices and also wish them the absolute best in whatever they pursue. Change is sometimes a scary prospect. Yet change moved us away from the cell phone to the smart phone, from the TV to the tablet, and from yesterday’s computer to today’s cloud. We’re working hard to keep you in the middle of it, where you belong. Contrary to competing rumors, Serotek is not down for the count. We’re squarely in your corner and ready to meet the next phase with the same fervor we’re well known for. Stay tuned. The best is on its way, and you are going to be a part of it. Or, if they simply want to deal with a real person. Most of the major banks and credit unions have online banking services, such as Chase, Wells-Fargo, Bank of America, and many others. I use Chase and I have had no issues with their app. I can even transfer money between accounts in the Chase app. I used to call the toll free number for Chase once or twice a day to hear my balance and other information. Now, I open the app. Chase offers a service where you can sign-up for different email alerts, such as low balance alerts, when checks or transactions clear your account, and many other kinds. This is another way that I stay on top of my accounts. Online banking is like Facebook: you can do as much or as little as you want. Re: downcast or overcast
I like downcast so far good ease of use, also enjoying lire and twitterific, learning all kinds of good new aps. i don't want to, but I need to make folders, which things from the home screen can I actually move. Most things I just open with Siri, but I like my interesting apps to be on my first page, but I know you can't move ones in the dock, but what about the rest of them? And when I move it like say to second page, how do I make it just go on the second page and not try to create a folder with another app? Eden On 11/24/2014 7:34 AM, Wayne Merritt wrote: I think you can do a keyword search for podcasts in both apps. The big difference for me between Downcast and Overcast is that with Downcast, you pay up front and get all of the features available. Overcast is free, but you pay an in-app purchase of about $4 or $5 to unlock all of the features that Downcast includes by default. I think Downcast is a buck or two cheaper if that matters. Anyway, Downcast meets all of my needs so I haven't made the switch. I also like that I can do a keyword search or look at top podcasts in different categories in Downcast. Overcast may do this too, I don't know. Wayne On 11/24/14, Cristóbal crismuno...@gmail.com wrote: Overcast is ok, but still needs a way to go. It's a more simple layout. Voiceover at least with my iPhone 5 is not as snappy though it can be considered a fully accessible app. Downcast for me, just offers a lot more options. The one plus that Overcast does have over Downcast in my opinion is that it can play files at the 3x speed. While Downcast has this option, it hasn't' worked for quite a few updates now. Playback begins to skip at this level in Downcast making it unusable. I've written the dev about it and even though he says it's on his list of bugs to fix, it's never been addressed in any of the numerous updates since the skipping first started. Doubt it will be fixed at this point. Also when you send a URL to Instapaper from Twitterific, it just sends the URL, not the article, meaning you have to go through the inconvenience of opening the article, then sending it to Instapaper from that screen. Why on earth the Twitterific people think there is any value in sending just the URL to a read later service, I have no clue. Re: THE DOUBLE LETTERS ETC WITH THE APPLE KEYBOARD
It seems to be working for now, and i did contact accessibility, but a quick fix is to turn off and on and obviously to make sure to turn off quick nav before you enter the text field. of course, this is from the total newbie here. Ok, so now you've got me curious, I have Verizon this phone I think will only work Verizon, but it works the prepaid verizon too. I pay $49 a month for unlimited text and dtalk, but the data is terrible 500 megs and $10 each extra meg, can someone tell me is there a better plan, and maybe since I can use with no contract phone, does that mean it'd work with another carrier? I believe the problem is Verizon is TDMA, and aren't most others GSM? Eden On 11/23/2014 10:23 AM, Kelly Pierce wrote: Dear Susan, As my article mentions, the first step in joining the iPhone tribe is in learning about the coverage and reliability of the wireless service in your area, the area to which you are moving, and the places where you visit frequently. A family member’s relationship with ATT may be a perfect fit for them. It may not be for you, particularly if you live or travel to places the other person does not. Once you have figured out if all, some or none of the four national wireless networks have consistent and reliable coverage, it is then time to focus on prices. T-Mobile has low-priced plans, although these are not advertised and not available in stores. The deals come for the other three carriers when resellers buy data and airtime in bulk at a deep discount and resell it at very low prices. A just released survey by Consumer Reports found high dissatisfaction with the major national carriers but high customer satisfaction levels from the resellers. You can enjoy nearly all the benefits from the sprint, ATT or Verizon networks at one-half to one third of the cost of what most of those customers pay. True, the resellers do not offer the roaming the big boys offer, but unless you plan to go to sparsely populated areas regularly, like the upper peninsula of Michigan or northern Nevada, it is not an issue for most people. The 5S will cost less, but it is important to realize that iPhones essentially have an expiration date. This is because the iOS software and apps will no longer be useful long before the solidly built and well-manufacture iPhone breaks and cannot be repaired. If the iPhone is kept in a hard shell case and away from water, the hardware will last for many years. Apple stops supporting iPhones after about four years from first release. If Apple maintains past practices, the 5S will receive its last major iOS in 2017 and will not take new updates starting in fall 2018. You will pay more for the iPhone 6, but you will have a year longer of use along with a better camera for OCR on the fly and Apple Pay, which could be a much bigger thing in the future. Ironically, my husband and I both have non-contract Jitterbug phones and the month to month costs of the Iphone are not much more than what I currently pay, and since I'm totally blind the Jitterbug's so-called accessibility has been laughable to me. Family members not the phone company are responsible for divvying up the bill and paying the primary account holder what they owe. Each line has a two-year contract. If you are moving in a year, you should be certain of the ATT coverage for your new area as it might be expensive to back out of a contract. Different parts of the country usually have great service from one or two carriers but not another. It would not surprise me to learn that you may be moving from an area with good ATT coverage to an area with poor coverage. Inconsistent service quality from local area to local area is common with the national carriers. If you have WIFI at home, download the app updates, NLS books, and other big files on WIFI. You will rarely need more than one gig of data. If you are looking for inexpensive plans, consider the $30 T-Mobile plan for unlimited data and text and 100 voice minutes. Free calling apps like Vonage and Magic Jack can bridge the difference for most people. Ting, which uses the Sprint network, also offers a $30 plan. Re: Anyone else having trouble engaging Siri?
what does audio ducking do to voice-over and Siri? It seems to be on in my phone, but I mostly notice it with music. Most of the time, I don't want audio ducking on because I have a braille display, but since it's in the shop, it helps, but I wonder how you are saying this affects Siri and Voice-over, thanks. Re: iOS 8.1.1 has been released
This is not true for everyone. I never had 7, but I can't agree that 1-2 seconds for an app to open is too long. The iPhone 5 with iOS 8.0 and iOS 8.0.2 on board wasn’t as fast but the speed was tolerable. The iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1 or iOS 8.1.1 on board is not tolerable. While iOS 8.1.1 is stable from a bug standpoint, the software is just as sluggish as the iOS 8.1 update. Here’s what I mean by sluggish. I am constantly seeing delays with the transitions and animations of the operating system, even after I minimized them in the settings. It takes far too long for folders and apps to open and I’ve noticed slowdown and random freezing when simply moving about the home screen. How would I get one, and how would I make it default or specify for a certain person? Do these cost per ringtone or per month? I am Verizon prepaid. I also used to have ringback tones, but not everyone enjoys listening to music when they call someone, and I think that's a monthly fee, correct me if I'm wrong. I would just edit parts of songs myself, but they're all digital, and I don't know how to cut up tracks so buying a ringtone it'll be, I don't like generic boring ones. I'm finding with 8.1.1 that the keyboard is often entering double letters/numbers until I power off the phone and turn it back on. Makes no sense, but that is what is happening for me with my AmazonBasics Bluetooth keyboard. You cannot have the keyboard paired to two devices at the same time. Re: braille displays and bluetooth keyboards
sorry, I think my screen is too sensitive for one thing, but it may be just that my hands move around, and I think the reason I may have been just opening things on the keyboard is I didn't know the command wel enough. I think I am confused as to when you can use quick nav and when you can not, and we don't have to use the rotor as much with braille displays so this is a nightmare for me, lol. I see that F4 does play music or is supposed to haven't checked, but will it answer a phone call to since play on headsets and stuff answers calls. Just curious as hitting 3 keys just to answer a call seems silly although I use 2 on my braille display or more often than not with a phone call, I can do that gesture at least on the screen. And is control working again in the newest update so I can shut the speech up and if I am just having it read the whole screen, if I want to stop on an item to select it, how do I do this?
