Help from anyone playing iMobster, please

2014-08-12 Thread Ron Miller
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for new members for my mob. Of course, if you join my mob, I will
be added to yours as well. I can't move up any more levels without more
members, I've sent a lot of recruitment requests to a lot of people at random
from within the game and, now, I'm turning to anyone on list who'll join me.

My mob code is: wnmrh2.

Thanks,

Ron Miller

Help in iMobster and hijacked thread

2014-08-12 Thread Ron Miller
First, thank you Teresa, I erased the subject line of my message (composed as a
reply to another message posted here) thinking that it would create a new
thread. I made sure the old subject line was erased and overwritten, and that
I'd erased all of the content in the message body. Evidently, this didn't
prevent my message from being included in another thread, for which I
apologize. This is confusing to me, since I should not have encountered this
problem.

Now, on to the request I wanted to post:

I would very much appreciate anyone who is playing iMobster adding me to their
mob. I will, of course, be added to yours as well. I have sent recruit requests
to many people (randomly plucking their mob codes from in-game message texts,
but recently have received no new joins).

If you would like to mob up, my mob code is: wnmrh2.

Thanks,

Ron Miller

RE: accessible alternatives to facebook app

2014-05-28 Thread Ron Miller
Hello Steph and everyone,
I am going to try your suggestion. It took a while to find, though. For the
information of anyone who also wants to give this app a try, it is called
Cake The Reader. That should make your search much quicker.

Thanks for the suggestion,

Hi all,
Follow on from this thread, I'd like to suggest an app that I'd found, but
also hear people's experiences with the other apps mentioned in the below
post.
It's called cake reader and it is a simple facebook app that has the
timeline in it. You can like posts, comment on posts. one bug is that when
you post, some times it just sits there even though it's posted. You just
cancel out of it and you can continue reading your timeline.
I'd tried facely hd, but it kept jumping all the time, and it seems rather
slow on my 4s.

 GHi

I am being kicked out after reading three posts in my most recent
timeline.

I am now using Status report to view my FB timeline. A couple of other
apps you could look at which give a more fuller fb experience are Facely HD,
Hootsuit and Echofon for facebook.

Note I haven't used these for quite some time, so I don't know how good or
accessible they are these days.

One thing I have noticed about the thirdparty apps is that they don't seem
to grab every post in your timeline, so you might miss a few posts, but you
do get to skip some of the Fb advertisments, such as the suggested groups
etc.

 Hope this helps,
 Brett.

RE: ibooks iOS with braille display?

2014-04-27 Thread Ron Miller
Hello Anouk,
What type of Braille display are you using?

IF you are using the Focus 14/40/80 Blue with your iPhone running iOS 5 or
later, you can use the right rocker bar to perform the horizontal page
change. This is handy as you read because you don't have to lift your
fingers off of the display to perform the dots 135-chord (dots 135 plus
Space) command or the three finger swipe left.

Best regards,

Hi , I just bought a few ibooks but dont find it to work that well on the
mac. So i thought about reading them on the iphone, i would prefer to do
that with my braille display.
Has anyone got experience with this? Can you go quickly to the table of
contents/the chapter you want/back t the table of contents? Can you scroll
up or down pages in ibooks with the braille display?
I see the page slider but than can only seem to change it via the
touchscreen. Sicne pages seem to be fairly small this does not work all that
quickly.
I know you can read quicker with sliding 2 fingers down from the top but was
wondering if/how you can do this with the braille display?
Thanks for any info,
Greetings, Anouk,

Re: Question for a friend. What apps would you recommend for a student using iPad?

2014-01-30 Thread Ron Miller
Great suggestions from Eric and others. I would add a braille display to the
list of suggestions if she's a proficient braille user. This will let her do
all of her reading and writing without having an earphone or earbud. Our ears
need to be listening to the class, not Voiceover. Sighted students are writing
and reading their notes and listening to the teacher and everybody asking
questions and commenting, a blind student needs to be writing, and reading
notes tactually and also listening to the teacher and classmates. Ears out in
the real world no audio division or distractions.

Best to all,

Ron Miller

I think these suggestions are right on. I would add a few to the list.

List Recorder is great for organizing recordings or brief written notes. It
is one of my most used apps at work and home. I would have loved it as a
student. It can serve in many ways from a to do list to recording entire
classes. It can also be used if the student needs to do a presentation and
needs talking points. It is great for studying languages as you can keep
lists of words to study. The uses go on and on.

Pear notes lets a student record something such as a class or meeting and
also take written notes. The recording and the notes match up so the student
can hear again the parts of the class that their notes don't cover
adequately. Again I would have loved this as a student!

iBooks can be used to read PDFs pretty well. And some text books are
 becoming available on it.

In addition to book share the student could use the BARD mobile app to find
many books for English and other classes. This assumes it is a US student.
Depending on math needs I'd look into calculator options to have ready to go.

If the student is planning on doing lots of in class note taking they might
want a bluetooth keyboard, and to work quietly a bluetooth ear piece.

Depending on the class other apps will be very helpful. Apps to read current
 news for example.

Let me know if I can be of additional help.

tasks such as, writing papers, doing homework, reading and finding

you guys have any suggestions for apps you can suggest for her? Apps that
you think may benefit a student?
I told her to use Pages for word processing, but if you have any other
suggestions for word processing, please advice as Pages accessibility has
 been going down and down.
I told her Keynote for Powerpoint which seems accessible for viewing
presentations. She has not had to create one yet so she can not comment on
that but she usually needs help in making powerpoints for the visual stuff.
She tries avoiding it and just writes what she wants each slide to be and
then somebody actually does it for her.
I told her Read2Go for bookshare for her textbooks.
Native Mail app is good for her to email people.
I told her to use reminders for homework reminder. I taught her how to
create a list, homework in reminders, and then add stuff in it. It seems to
 work for her.
Now, can you guys suggest anything? Please? Here are the following we are
 having troubles in helping her.
We can not find a cheap reliable scanning solutions for her iPad.
We can not find a good PDF reader but we have considered the Adobe Acrobat

I would greatly appreciate your help in this matter in helping my friend.

I have the Juice Pack with the highest capacity (Plus, I believe), and like

5

I'm considering getting a Mophie Juice Pack external battery case for my
iPhone 5 but I need comments from anyone with experience with one of these.
Amazon appears to carry three different models of this case, Air, Helium,
and Plus. I'm not really sure what the differences are in these but the
prices are different so I assume they have different charging capacities,
etc.

My main concern is that all three of these appeared to have a large number
of negative reviews on Amazon. I especially noticed that Helium model had
several negative reviews stating that phone reception dropped considerably
when in one of these cases.

I'm looking for any comments from someone who has experience with a Mophie
Juice Pack with the iPhone 5. I don't care which model it is as long as it's
identified. I'm not really interested in experience with these cases with
pre-iPhone 5 models because the negative reviewers seemed to think that the
product took a downturn with the iPhone 5 models.

Thanks for any experience you can share.

RE: On-screen keyboard. With focus Braille

2013-12-26 Thread Ron Miller
iOS 7 it is. I'm sure you're right about that.

It is handy to have displayed. I especially like using the Emogy keyboard
when I'm sending texts. My only complaint is that the emoticons are read
correctly after you've inserted them into your text, but their labels don't
show up in Braille, so you must use speech to double check that you've got
the emoticons you want in your text.

I've set on-screen keyboard to off in settings but it still shows up
when I'm using the focus 40 blue. It also shows up when I'm using the
Braille Penn. this is new behavior. I don't know precisely when it
started. My guess is sometime after updating to iOS seven. Any
thoughts on this would be much appreciated.

RE: On-screen keyboard. With focus Braille

2013-12-25 Thread Ron Miller
Hi Brian,
It's an iOS bug which occurs, I believe, no matter which Braille display you
are using.

I think it started with iOS 6 but, at this point, really can't remember with
100% certainty.

Have a happy New Year.

I've set on-screen keyboard to off in settings but it still shows up when
I'm using the focus 40 blue. It also shows up when I'm using the Braille
Penn. this is new behavior. I don't know precisely when it started. My guess
is sometime after updating to iOS seven. Any thoughts on this would be much
appreciated.

RE: Solara heros

2013-12-07 Thread Ron Miller
This is actually a good question.

I wish I could get the attention of the development team for Solara. I would
ask them to provide descriptions of what our oponents' capabilities are, in
the same way they do our heroes. It would make sense in the game's universe
since these are monsters which one encounters as one sojourns.

Best to everyone,

Re: App Switcher [was Re: iOS 7, thoughts?]

2013-10-01 Thread Ron Miller
I must be one of the rare ones who do close all apps using App Switcher, then.
There are times When I want to free up all resources have everything unloaded.

I find that if I want to clese an app, I open App Switcher, swipe right to the
app I want to close flick up once to invoke close. I can then just
double-tap it, and move to the next app to close, double-tap and so on. The
three-finger flick up, of course works and saves a gesture, but I've gotten
pretty used to setting to close then moving to double-tapping the item to
close.

Best regards,

why have the home screen as an option when all other apps have been

Just close the switcher automatically instead on displaying the

In fact, the visual representation for apps on app switcher is totally

 Hi,

But why have a visual representation at all when all other apps have
been closed? The app switcher in my opinion, should just close
automatically and go to the home screen since that is the only action
 left to perform.

For example, I have 2 apps running. in the app switcher, I will see
the 2 apps plus the home screen. Cool. But, once I've close those 2
apps, there is absolutely no function left to the app switcher but to
close it and return to the home screen. So, why then force the user
to perform a gesture or, press the physical home button when its a
logical inevitability that that is the next action the user will do?
This looks to me like a hold over from IOS 6 that is no longer needed
in IOS 7. Remember, In IOS 6, although all apps were closed from the
switcher, there was still a large list of things a person could still
do. Play/pause music, lock/unlock orientation, etc. But this is no
longer the case in IOS 7 since all these features have been moved to
 control center.

 scrub that I know of.

Not sure what this one looks like on the screen. Will need to ask

Re: Speaker for iPhone 4ness that can be used for phone calls

Auvio makes a line of speakers which appear to be targeting the Jambox line.
They are available at Radio Shack. I am using the middle sitheed Auvio speaker

RE: Solara Game Play, Discussion, and Ideas

2013-08-10 Thread Ron Miller
There has been a bit of discussion about using espr. You don't have to buy
it to get it. There are some quests and buildings which will supply it to
you, albeigt in small amounts at a time. I've saved up and have used it to
build shops that require espr to build. I do not use it for food since, as
was already said food restocks over time. Espr can be accumulated over
time, tu.

They are very responsive to making the game accessible for voice over users,

Good luck tests and all of us. I love the game, God bless, wren

Hi Ron.
It has been my experience that Ari is correct. I use braille almost
exclusively on my various devices. What would be nice would be if there were
some optional feature where when new info such as a turn or a crucial
waypoint in a route was presented to the user, that the phone would vibrate
to alert you that you should look at your display to find that info.

Re: Accessible tip calculator

Hi everyone,
Just a gentle reminder, in the US, a ten percent tip is a very poor tip by
today's standards. Though the conversion is easy, leaving a ten percent tip in

I know that tipping customs very from country to country, so I'm speaking only

Re: Braille and picker items

2012-11-28 Thread Ron Miller
Hi Denise,
use the left Nav Rocker to flick up and down, changing the picker item. This
also works on page pickers, etc.

Enjoy the Focus 14 Blue, I'm using one to send this reply as I ride the train.

Re: Focus 40 Braille Display

2012-10-24 Thread Ron Miller
Hi Marie,
Pressing the right rocker bar up or down will move you to the previous or next
page in a book when you're using iBooks.

Another useful control in this context may be the left selector button which
activates the Back button, if there's one on the screen (I use this control a
log).

Re: Sorry for last message Braille displays again

2012-09-30 Thread Ron Miller
Hi,
Any time you need to re-connect your braille display with the iPhone or you've
locked your iPhone and want it to come up and begin displaying braille when you
wake it up, remember to always have the braille display powered on before you
re-start or unlock your iPhone. I can only speak authoritativly about the Focus
Blue braille displays, but when the displan is already on, the phone should
find the display when it ues up, or is unlocked using the power butson or the
Home button.

As long as Bluetooth is active, the iPhone should find the braille display if
it has already been paired with the phone.

Apple doesn't currently provide a double-tap and hold keystroke. It is hoped

I discovered a couple symbols I did not know we could create on a braille

Dots 8, 1,4,5,6 equals the ¢ (cents sign)

dots 8,1,5,6 equals the £ (pound sign)

They don't show up in braille quite right, but VoiceOver speaks them just
fine and they translate to print just fine.

I did not find an equivalent to the double tap and hold though.

Re: braille displays with iPad

2012-06-27 Thread Ron Miller
Hello again,
Ok, two more cents worth. The advice about containers is fantastically correct.

Containers added to the rotor will get the result you're wanting in Settings.

Once you've opened Settings, press dots 23-chord or dots 56-chord to move
through the items in the rotor until you reach Containers. You can use dot
6-chord to move past the column you mentioned and get into the settings you
selected. So, for example, if you open Settings and use the Down arrow to move
to General and press a cursor router key over the word General to select these
settings, you can then press dot 6-chord to jump past the column of Settings
choices and into the General Settings items.
