Help from anyone playing iMobster, please
Hi everyone, I'm looking for new members for my mob. Of course, if you join my mob, I will be added to yours as well. I can't move up any more levels without more members, I've sent a lot of recruitment requests to a lot of people at random from within the game and, now, I'm turning to anyone on list who'll join me. Help in iMobster and hijacked thread
First, thank you Teresa, I erased the subject line of my message (composed as a reply to another message posted here) thinking that it would create a new thread. I made sure the old subject line was erased and overwritten, and that I'd erased all of the content in the message body. Evidently, this didn't prevent my message from being included in another thread, for which I apologize. This is confusing to me, since I should not have encountered this problem. Now, on to the request I wanted to post: I would very much appreciate anyone who is playing iMobster adding me to their mob. I will, of course, be added to yours as well. I have sent recruit requests to many people (randomly plucking their mob codes from in-game message texts, but recently have received no new joins). If you would like to mob up, my mob code is: wnmrh2. Thanks, Ron Miller -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. RE: accessible alternatives to facebook app
Hello Steph and everyone, I am going to try your suggestion. It took a while to find, though. For the information of anyone who also wants to give this app a try, it is called Cake The Reader. That should make your search much quicker. Thanks for the suggestion, Ron Miller -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Stephanie Sent: Wednesday, May 28, 2014 6:38 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: accessible alternatives to facebook app Hi all, Follow on from this thread, I'd like to suggest an app that I'd found, but also hear people's experiences with the other apps mentioned in the below post. It's called cake reader and it is a simple facebook app that has the timeline in it. You can like posts, comment on posts. one bug is that when you post, some times it just sits there even though it's posted. You just cancel out of it and you can continue reading your timeline. I'd tried facely hd, but it kept jumping all the time, and it seems rather slow on my 4s. A couple of other apps you could look at which give a more fuller fb experience are Facely HD, Hootsuit and Echofon for facebook. Note I haven't used these for quite some time, so I don't know how good or accessible they are these days. One thing I have noticed about the thirdparty apps is that they don't seem to grab every post in your timeline, so you might miss a few posts, but you do get to skip some of the Fb advertisments, such as the suggested groups etc. Hope this helps, Brett. RE: ibooks iOS with braille display?
Hello Anouk, What type of Braille display are you using? IF you are using the Focus 14/40/80 Blue with your iPhone running iOS 5 or later, you can use the right rocker bar to perform the horizontal page change. This is handy as you read because you don't have to lift your fingers off of the display to perform the dots 135-chord (dots 135 plus Space) command or the three finger swipe left. Re: Question for a friend. What apps would you recommend for a student using iPad?
Great suggestions from Eric and others. I would add a braille display to the list of suggestions if she's a proficient braille user. This will let her do all of her reading and writing without having an earphone or earbud. Our ears need to be listening to the class, not Voiceover. Sighted students are writing and reading their notes and listening to the teacher and everybody asking questions and commenting, a blind student needs to be writing, and reading notes tactually and also listening to the teacher and classmates. Ears out in the real world no audio division or distractions. Best to all, Ron Miller On Jan 29, 2014, at 10:30 PM, Eric Caron ecar...@comcast.net wrote: Hi Nimit, I'm a High School Guidance Counselor in VT. I think these suggestions are right on. I would add a few to the list. List Recorder is great for organizing recordings or brief written notes. It is one of my most used apps at work and home. I would have loved it as a student. It can serve in many ways from a to do list to recording entire classes. It can also be used if the student needs to do a presentation and needs talking points. It is great for studying languages as you can keep lists of words to study. The uses go on and on. Pear notes lets a student record something such as a class or meeting and also take written notes. The recording and the notes match up so the student can hear again the parts of the class that their notes don't cover adequately. Again I would have loved this as a student! iBooks can be used to read PDFs pretty well. And some text books are becoming available on it. In addition to book share the student could use the BARD mobile app to find many books for English and other classes. This assumes it is a US student. Depending on math needs I'd look into calculator options to have ready to go. If the student is planning on doing lots of in class note taking they might want a bluetooth keyboard, and to work quietly a bluetooth ear piece. Depending on the class other apps will be very helpful. Apps to read current news for example. Let me know if I can be of additional help. I told her to use Pages for word processing, but if you have any other suggestions for word processing, please advice as Pages accessibility has been going down and down. I told her Keynote for Powerpoint which seems accessible for viewing presentations. She has not had to create one yet so she can not comment on that but she usually needs help in making powerpoints for the visual stuff. She tries avoiding it and just writes what she wants each slide to be and then somebody actually does it for her. I told her Read2Go for bookshare for her textbooks. Native Mail app is good for her to email people. I told her to use reminders for homework reminder. I taught her how to create a list, homework in reminders, and then add stuff in it. It seems to work for her. Now, can you guys suggest anything? Please? Here are the following we are having troubles in helping her. We can not find a cheap reliable scanning solutions for her iPad. Amazon appears to carry three different models of this case, Air, Helium, and Plus. I'm not really sure what the differences are in these but the prices are different so I assume they have different charging capacities, etc. My main concern is that all three of these appeared to have a large number of negative reviews on Amazon. I especially noticed that Helium model had several negative reviews stating that phone reception dropped considerably when in one of these cases. I'm looking for any comments from someone who has experience with a Mophie Juice Pack with the iPhone 5. I don't care which model it is as long as it's identified. I'm not really interested in experience with these cases with pre-iPhone 5 models because the negative reviewers seemed to think that the product took a downturn with the iPhone 5 models. iOS 7 it is. I'm sure you're right about that. It is handy to have displayed. I especially like using the Emogy keyboard when I'm sending texts. My only complaint is that the emoticons are read correctly after you've inserted them into your text, but their labels don't show up in Braille, so you must use speech to double check that you've got the emoticons you want in your text. Re: App Switcher [was Re: iOS 7, thoughts?]
I must be one of the rare ones who do close all apps using App Switcher, then. There are times When I want to free up all resources have everything unloaded. I find that if I want to clese an app, I open App Switcher, swipe right to the app I want to close flick up once to invoke close. I can then just double-tap it, and move to the next app to close, double-tap and so on. The three-finger flick up, of course works and saves a gesture, but I've gotten pretty used to setting to close then moving to double-tapping the item to close. In fact, the visual representation for apps on app switcher is totally different from iOS 6. On 01/10/2013, Cara Quinn modelc...@gmail.com wrote: You're right! The app switcher in my opinion, should just close automatically and go to the home screen since that is the only action left to perform. For example, I have 2 apps running. in the app switcher, I will see the 2 apps plus the home screen. Cool. But, once I've close those 2 apps, there is absolutely no function left to the app switcher but to close it and return to the home screen. So, why then force the user to perform a gesture or, press the physical home button when its a logical inevitability that that is the next action the user will do? This looks to me like a hold over from IOS 6 that is no longer needed in IOS 7. Remember, In IOS 6, although all apps were closed from the switcher, there was still a large list of things a person could still do. Play/pause music, lock/unlock orientation, etc. But this is no longer the case in IOS 7 since all these features have been moved to control center. Not sure what this one looks like on the screen. Will need to ask someone. Interesting discussion! Thanks, Cara
Re: Speaker for iPhone 4ness that can be used for phone calls
Auvio makes a line of speakers which appear to be targeting the Jambox line. They are available at Radio Shack. I am using the middle sitheed Auvio speaker which costs the same as the small Jambox. RE: BlindSquare and Refreshable Braille Displays
Hi Scott, I've had the Braille display on my lap, under my fingers with the phone unlocked and found that even when an item was spoken, it was often not displayed. This did not hold true of system announcements but did for the poi and other surroundings related announcements. Re: Sorry for last message Braille displays again
Hi, Any time you need to re-connect your braille display with the iPhone or you've locked your iPhone and want it to come up and begin displaying braille when you wake it up, remember to always have the braille display powered on before you re-start or unlock your iPhone. I can only speak authoritativly about the Focus Blue braille displays, but when the displan is already on, the phone should find the display when it ues up, or is unlocked using the power butson or the Home button. As long as Bluetooth is active, the iPhone should find the braille display if it has already been paired with the phone. Re: braille displays with iPad
Hello again, Ok, two more cents worth. The advice about containers is fantastically correct. Containers added to the rotor will get the result you're wanting in Settings. Once you've opened Settings, press dots 23-chord or dots 56-chord to move through the items in the rotor until you reach Containers. You can use dot 6-chord to move past the column you mentioned and get into the settings you selected. So, for example, if you open Settings and use the Down arrow to move to General and press a cursor router key over the word General to select these settings, you can then press dot 6-chord to jump past the column of Settings choices and into the General Settings items. For example, if I want to get the Night Jar game and I live in the US, I have to use a UK address to create the account. No, I don't want to just make one up. :) Teresa We are made of star-stuff--Carl Sagan, Cosmos On Jun 1, 2012, at 6:10 AM, Brett wrote: Hi, You can always google create an App Store account with at the credit card.
