Re: Moving Apps from One Page to Another

2016-04-03 Thread Richard Turner

I've not had any issues with doing that with 9.3. Maybe try moving the app
slowly.
One sure fired method, though tedious, is to move an app out of the dock on a
page where you have room, then slide an app into the dock, flick to the screen
where you want it, and slide it up out of the dock.
repeating as necessary.

I used to move apps quite easily from page to page. But ever since
9.3, I can't get apps to move no nmatter how I try. Like Sherry, I get
the approaching border message then the app just bounces back to where
it was before. Very frustrating.

Can someone refresh my memory on how to move apps with a blue tooth keyboard?

Hi Kelby,

Simply double tap and hold your finger on the screen. Make sure you place your
finger on the area that will give you the longest distance of travel before you
get to the edge. When the icon comes near the edge, you will be notified and it
will move to the next page. If you hold your finger in place it will move from
page to page until you decide to let go.

How do you do this? It seems to be totally random when the page will shift and
when it won't.

2016-03-31 Thread Sherry Wells

Sieghard,

I have had the same experience re trying to move something only to have it
pop into a folder with another app. I definitely do not get the 5 second
beeping as I do when removing things from folders. And anytime I want to
move something to another page it always takes several tries. I hear
approaching edge of screen then the icon bounces back to where it was. I've
tried going faster & slower & have not found a good way to do this yet.
Maybe, as you mention, the difference in all our experiences has to do with
the pressure applied to the screen. I'll have to play around with that.

with the larger screen there is a bit more wiggle room so to speak.
Voiceover may syay you are on a folder, but I find that if I come from the

keep on going left just a bit more after it says that it's on an app before

Sherry, As for what you describe, the jumping to another page is probably
because you aren't moving straight up or down but maybe also a bit sideways
and then if you are already near an edge it would be easy for iOS to think
you want to go to the next page.
As for having to hurry because it says it's opening an existing folder, I
think once again maybe you aren't holding down on the screen firm enough. I
can just stop and hold when it says "Opening" and nothing happens for at
least a 5 count, in fact I just tried it and after it says "Opening folder"
it starts making that beep that you get when you move an app out of a folder
when it says to hold for 5 seconds to close. It seems like if you don't
continue to move for 5 seconds it will drop the app in the folder, but
certainly not before.

Hi Kelby,

Moving apps is not random, but it requires a light touch, if you have a
good special awareness of how you move your finger when you drag an app it
is much easier and mostly it requires practice. Try to start small when
you practice and just see if you can move an app one or two spots to the
left or right or up or down or maybe see if you can move the top left app
(in row 1) down into row 2 and on second or third position from the left.
Voiceover gives some feedback as you move it, it will say if you are on
another app and it will say stuff like "On so and so app, will create
folder with so and so app". Here is an example:

Assume you have the calculator app in row 1 on the very left and right
next to it you have the clock app. Now if you double tap and hold on
calculator, it will say "Moving Calculator". If you now drag your finger
to the right just a bit it should say "On Clock, will create folder with
clock". If you let go at this point a folder

Hello Chuck,

One other way to move your apps as you would like is to move the app to the
last page as you start moving them around. The last page is extra, and is
always empty.

This way you can group all of the like apps together, then move them where you
want them to go.

Re: Moving Apps from One Page to Another

2016-03-30 Thread Mary Otten
Hi sieghard,
This issue with not being able to actually get an app into a folder on my iPad
mini two, or move it from one page to another, it seems to hang at the border
forever, is something that was not present when I first got the iPad. I can't
even remember which iOS version it had, I think seven but maybe six, when this
device first came out. At some point, and it may have been iOS 9, initial
release, this problem of having to be so picky about where you were on the
folder to get the app to drop in, or move from one page to another, raised its
head. I always like to start from the extreme side of the page from which I
want to move, if I'm moving to another page. So if I'm on page 3, I like to
start Wayover on the right if I'm moving an app to page 2, so as to give myself
maximum real estate to get that border crossed, so to speak. I never have
trouble on the phone. But the iPad mini is a whole different story.

That’s a great tip. Yes, there is a pattern to the layout of your apps,
depending on your model of phone or iPad. It might be 4 by 4 or 4 by 5 or even
4 by 6. So, use the slide gesture to explore screen icon layouts before you
start moving them around too.

Here’s another tip on moving apps across pages.

When you find the app you want to move, double-tap and hold in the middle of
the screen or wherever you feel comfortable so you’ve got enough screen space
to move to the edge and switch pages. Remember that VO will remember the
position of the last item you tapped on, so if you have an app on the edge
you’d like to move to another page, this may be an easier method to give
yourself some runway. I find that moving an app on he far left or right of the
screen tends to just hold it there. Also, wait for the little beep that sounds
after VO announces it has made a new folder. if it’s helpful, remember too that
icons are laid out on the home screen in a grid, unlike a Windows or Mac laptop
where icons can be dragged to any location.

Moving apps from the dock is no different than moving apps any other way.
Double tap and hold until you hear the pass-through sound, and then slide the
app out of the dock onto page, if the pages full, hold it at the edge and will
move to the next page into a creates a page.

Hi,

I have found the easiest way to move apps from page to page, is to take one
app out of the dock, and put it on the page.

Now move the app that you want to move to another page into the dock.

Now swipe with three fingers to go to the page you want to install that app on.

Move the app out of the dock on to the page.

Once you are finished moving the apps onto the various pages that you want,
return the original app to the dock.
Hope this helps,

Chuck

Re: Moving Apps from One Page to Another

2016-03-30 Thread Mary Otten
I haven't tried moving any apps since getting 9.3. But I have not noticed the
problem you are referring to on my 6S. In fact, on my iPad mini, running the
same version of iOS as my 6S, I wish they would speed up the folder opening. I
can sit on a folder all night with an app seemingly, and the damned folder will
not open to add the app. It's very strange, because I don't have that problem
on the phone. This is one area where I wish Apple would take a page from
Google's book. The Google now launcher on android has a beautiful way of moving
apps, both on the same page and to another page. You have absolute control over
where the app is going. It's wonderful. And I can't say that when comparing the
two systems too often.

Re: Moving Apps from One Page to Another

2016-03-30 Thread Sherrie
Last night I was trying to move some apps on my 6S and it seemed much
touchier than usual. For instance I was moving an app fairly straight up
the page and it kept jumping to the previous page. I am not really a novice
at this but I had to try over and over and over. The instant you try to move
across an app it says Opening folder... and then you have to hurry and keep
moving fast to try to get off before it opens. Sometimes it keeps making new
folders even when you try to move off the other app. I think I will get out
my BT keyboard and see if that is easier to control.

So maybe 9.3 is touchier, or the 6S is.
Just a thought.

Hi Kelby,

Moving apps is not random, but it requires a light touch, if you have a good
special awareness of how you move your finger when you drag an app it is
much easier and mostly it requires practice. Try to start small when you
practice and just see if you can move an app one or two spots to the left or
right or up or down or maybe see if you can move the top left app (in row 1)
down into row 2 and on second or third position from the left. Voiceover
gives some feedback as you move it, it will say if you are on another app
and it will say stuff like "On so and so app, will create folder with so and
so app". Here is an example:

Assume you have the calculator app in row 1 on the very left and right next
to it you have the clock app. Now if you double tap and hold on calculator,
it will say "Moving Calculator". If you now drag your finger to the right
just a bit it should say "On Clock, will create folder with clock". If you
let go at this point a folder will be created and I think it will probably
be called "Utilities" since folders are typically named according to the
category of whatever app you are moving. If, for example, you move
Calculator on Camera it will create a Utility folder, but if you move Camera
on Calculator it will create a Photography folder. You can edit folder names
to whatever you want them to be called by opening a folder, double tap and
hold on an app like you want to move it, then swipe left to the folder name
which now is in an edit field, you can double tap on it to put focus in the
edit field, you can then delete what's there and type something new or there
is also a Clear All button next to I t which wil clear the field.
As far as moving apps from one page to another this I find is easiest if the
app is already on the edge, for example, if you want to move an app from
page 1 to page 2 it might work better if you move the app fiurst to the
third or last position in the row, then start again and drag it right to the
edge of the screen. Voiceover will say "Moving to Page 2" there will be a
sound and then you let go and it should have wrapped around. If you continue
to hold it will keep wrapping to Page 3, Page 4 etc.

Hope this helps a bit, like I said, practice and you'll get it. You can also
move apps with a Bluetooth keyboard, but somebody else may have to explain
that since I just never bother.

Regards,
Sieghard

How do you do this? It seems to be totally random when the page will shift
and when it won't.

Re: Moving Apps from One Page to Another

2016-03-30 Thread Chuck Dean
Hi,
I have found the easiest way to move apps from page to page, is to take
one app out of the dock, and put it on the page.
Now move the app that you want to move to another page into the dock.
Now swipe with three fingers to go to the page you want to install that
app on.
Move the app out of the dock on to the page.
Once you are finished moving the apps onto the various pages that you want,
return the original app to the dock.
Hope this helps,
Chuck

RE: Moving Apps from One Page to Another

2016-03-30 Thread SSEric
You probably know this, but double tap and hold on the app you want to move.
Slide your finger to the left edge of the screen to go back one screen or to
the right to go forward. You have to raise your finger as soon as you hear
"moving to page, etc." It can be a bit tricky to stop in time.

I don't know if this is still the case, but it used to be said that sighted
could connect the device in iTunes and very easily drag and drop apps from
screen to screen. If this still works, it is probably the best way of doing
major housekeeping.

Eric

RE: Moving Apps from One Page to Another

2016-03-30 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Kelby,

Moving apps is not random, but it requires a light touch, if you have a good
special awareness of how you move your finger when you drag an app it is much
easier and mostly it requires practice. Try to start small when you practice
and just see if you can move an app one or two spots to the left or right or up
or down or maybe see if you can move the top left app (in row 1) down into row
2 and on second or third position from the left. Voiceover gives some feedback
as you move it, it will say if you are on another app and it will say stuff
like "On so and so app, will create folder with so and so app". Here is an
example:

Assume you have the calculator app in row 1 on the very left and right next to
it you have the clock app. Now if you double tap and hold on calculator, it
will say "Moving Calculator". If you now drag your finger to the right just a
bit it should say "On Clock, will create folder with clock". If you let go at
this point a folder will be created and I think it will probably be called
"Utilities" since folders are typically named according to the category of
whatever app you are moving. If, for example, you move Calculator on Camera it
will create a Utility folder, but if you move Camera on Calculator it will
create a Photography folder. You can edit folder names to whatever you want
them to be called by opening a folder, double tap and hold on an app like you
want to move it, then swipe left to the folder name which now is in an edit
field, you can double tap on it to put focus in the edit field, you can then
delete what's there and type something new or there is also a Clear All button
next to I t which wil clear the field.
As far as moving apps from one page to another this I find is easiest if the
app is already on the edge, for example, if you want to move an app from page 1
to page 2 it might work better if you move the app fiurst to the third or last
position in the row, then start again and drag it right to the edge of the
screen. Voiceover will say "Moving to Page 2" there will be a sound and then
you let go and it should have wrapped around. If you continue to hold it will
keep wrapping to Page 3, Page 4 etc.

Hope this helps a bit, like I said, practice and you'll get it. You can also
move apps with a Bluetooth keyboard, but somebody else may have to explain that
since I just never bother.

Regards,
Sieghard
