Re: Speech problem

2021-11-06 Thread Melanie Clouser
I, too, have experienced this issue on my SE II ... but, on a few occasions,
when this happens ... I've discovered that the VO is coming through one
specific Amazon Echo Dot with the other sounds still coming from the phone I'm
holding in my hand. I have had to disconnect the Echo Dot on ethese occasions
to get VO back.

Re: Speech problem

2021-11-06 Thread Arnold Schmidt
No, this is some kind of bug that has nothing to do with the phone's
misinterpreting taps or the volume being turned down. Before today, I had had
it happen maybe 3 times, all of which I was able to correct by turning
voiceover on and off with the home button. Once, I had to do it twice. In all
the times before today, I had ended the call either with the two-finger double
tap or the end call button on the screen. Today, I was wearing my wired
earpods, and ended the call with them. When voiceover did its error, no
problem, I just restarted it with the home button, but it didn't fix it.
Restarting twice didn't fix it, neither did resetting it with the up and down
volume and holding in the power button until I heard that little snap sound in
the headphones, so that I knew the phone had shut down. Voiceover worked fine
when I was typing in my code, it went wrong afterward. Sometime during this
whole process, voiceover had started working again, but was very sluggish.
After feeling a vibration, it would literally take two or three seconds, but
would eventually say something. Out of curiosity, I got it to call an
automated service in my favorites. The phone call, but especially voiceover had
that over modulated sound as from the days of tape recorders when the gain was
too high. But when I ended that call, you guessed it, everything is completely
back to normal. This is going to be a really hard bug to trace down, being that
I don't know how to make it do it on purpose. The next time it happens, I am
going to make another call, even if I have to have siri do it if I have no
voiceover at all, and see if disconnecting that call fixes it again.
Personally, I hope I never have that opportunity. I am running 14.8.1 on an s e
2.

You may have thought you did a 2-finger double tap, but you may have touched
the screen elsewhere and the phone thought you did a 3-finger double tap.
Another possibility is that your screen is dirty and that can sometimes result
in unpredictable results when you do gestures.

It is rather easy to sometimes do a three finger double tap when you meant to
do a two finger double tap. That extra finger just has to barely graze the
surface to have this happen.

If you hear VoiceOver say Speech Off, that is the result of a three finger
double tap.
That is the only gesture that will do that.
As Holly said, just do it again to toggle it back on.

Try a three finger double tap. This toggles speech on and off. You should
hear speech on when you do a three finger double tap.

RE: Speech problem

2021-11-05 Thread Richard Turner
If you heard VoiceOver say speech off, you accidentally did a three finger
double tap.
Been there, done that, even though I would have sworn that I only used two
fingers.

But, the later iOS builds are way more responsive and it truly seems like
sometimes just a single skin cell can touch the screen and have it react.

Later,

It is rather easy to sometimes do a three finger double tap when you meant to
do a two finger double tap. That extra finger just has to barely graze the
surface to have this happen.

If you hear VoiceOver say Speech Off, that is the result of a three finger
double tap.
That is the only gesture that will do that.
As Holly said, just do it again to toggle it back on.

RE: Speech problem

2021-11-05 Thread Laury, Shawnese (LEO)
I have this same problem with my SC. For whatever reason the sound goes out and
you hear nothing but the sounds when you are touching the screen.

I have my phone set to turn voiceover on and off with a pushing the home button
3 times.

Most of the times I have to do it several times until I hear it say voiceover
on.

I was hoping that this was corrected with the latest update but it wasn't. HTH

Actually, if you hear the message speech off, you need to do a three finger
double tap to turn it back on. If you do a triple three finger tap you will
turns green curtain on or off depending on the state that it’s in when you do
that three finger triple tap. Hope this makes sense.

Try a three finger double tap. This toggles speech on and off. You should
hear speech on when you do a three finger double tap.

RE: Speech problem

2021-11-05 Thread Rena
I heard the phone saying speech off. I can hear the voiceover sounds, but
there’s not speech.

Especially on phone calls it may just be that Voiceover volume ended up very
low, just try pressing the volume up button and see if it comes back, best to
do this when the phone is unlocked.

Hello,

I answered a phone call and the speech got off. How can I turn it on?

This is a SC with ios 15.
