I can't find the status bar toggle under the View menu as stated-- can anyone provide additional information? Thanks. Cher -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Russ Kiehne Sent: Friday, September 20, 2013 10:15 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: itunes 11 I found the following article. Hope it helps. 5 Tips to Make iTunes 11 Look Normal Again Nov 29, 2012 - 69 Comments So you got iTunes 11, launched it for the first time, and now you're wondering where everything is and why it looks so different? You're not alone, any time an apps user interface is redesigned it's sure to leave some people confused as things are switched around, hidden, and adjusted. If you're a creature of habit like me, you'll want to make iTunes look normal again, that is, more familiar to what we've long become accustomed to with the past versions, and here are five simple tricks to do just that. Show All Your Music Again by Sorting by Songs Instead of Albums The new album view looks cool and all, but it can make it harder to browse music because it shows less music on screen. This is a super easy one to change, just click the Songs tab across the top and you'll see a familiar list of music again. Phew! Show Sidebar to See Playlists, iPhones, iPads, and the iTunes Store This is probably the most important thing to change immediately, because for whatever reason Apple hid the sidebar by default and if you're accustomed to seeing it all the time, that's really silly. Showing the iTunes sidebar again is simple, and you'll immediately be able to see all your playlists, iOS devices, and other stuff again: From iTunes, pull down the View menu and select Show Sidebar Show Status Bar How Many Songs in iTunes Library Again The status bar in iTunes tells you how many songs are in a library, what the playtime is, and how much space it takes up. This is useful knowledge particularly if you're trying to stuff an album or two onto a pretty full iPod or iPhone. Showing the status bar again is easy: Pull down the View menu and select Show Status Bar Show Podcasts Again If you subscribe to podcasts in iTunes and listen to them frequently, you probably want quick and easy access to them from the sidebar. You'll have to check this option in the preferences: Open iTunes Preferences and click on the General tab Check the box next to Podcasts under Library Lose the Color Scheming in Album View iTunes 11 changes the background color of the display window depending on album artwork. If you prefer your UI's to be nice and simple, disabling that feature is easy: Open iTunes Preferences and choose on the General tab Uncheck the box next to Use custom colors for open albums, movies, etc -Original Message- From: Robert Doc Wright Sent: Thursday, September 19, 2013 4:08 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: itunes 11 I recall someone writing a while back about changes to make Itunes 11 more accessible. Re: iTunes 11 and manually choosing music
I don't know if I'm talking about the same thing here, because I never used iTunes before version 11, so this may be old news, but I figured out that to check checkboxes in iTunes using the keyboard, I have to press the application key, and then choose check selection from the list. Just pressing the spacebar didn't do anything. I also figured out (by accident), by the way, that Control + Shift + F will jump into the Search box. (This is apparently a shortcut key in iTunes itself). Again, sorry, this may be old information. Re: itunes 11 question
Hi, On the Mac, bring up the source list with Command-Option-S (that's Control-S in Windows). Find your iPhone in the source list. Choose the Apps radio button. interact with the Apps table. Each app that is on your phone has a Remove button, and each app not on your phone has an Install button. I don't know whether these Remove and Install buttons are accessible in Windows. Re: iTunes 11 is out
I would doubt very much that Apple has anyone following this list and reporting back. If someone wants to make sure this gets fed back to Apple, I'd suggest using the accessibility email address for Apple. Note that in my comments below, I never talked about Apple's commitment to accessibility but rather just how committed they are to making one of their products accessible on a competitors platform. I believe Apple is committed to accessibility, but I'm not sure that vision extends to Windows. I also don't think 1300 people, or even everyone those 1300 people might influence, is even a blip on Apple's bottom line. I doubt very much Apple's commitment to accessibility is driven by how much they're going to make by selling Apple products specifically to blind people. Also, how many of those 1300 people on this list are using Windows? It may be a majority, but as we can see from following this list, there are quite a few Mac users, and that number is probably growing. This is all just my opinion. I don't have a problem with people disagreeing with me. Only time will tell which of us is correct, so I vote for just waiting to find out! On 03/12/12 02:27, M. RE: iTunes 11 Shortcut Keys
Yes, the menu shortcut keys all work and to add to Sandy's suggestion, here is the list of the main menu shortcut keys. This is also the order the menu items are in and once you are in whichever menu tree Jaws speaks everything correctly and you can down arrow through the choices. There are only 6 main menu items and as in most cases, File is first and Help is last. I don't find it difficult even to remember that f I press Alt and then arrow to the right ttwice that I am then oon View, but it's also easy to memorize the shortcut keys especially since File, Edit, View and Help are often standard in other applications and the shortcut keys are always the same. This only leaves Control and Store. Here are the menu items and shortcut keys: File: Alt+F Edit: Alt+E View:Alt+V Controls: Alt+C Store:Alt+S Help: Alt+H Regards, Sieghard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. RE: iTunes 11 is out
Hi, I don't agree that Apple is about to decrease their accessibility in ITunes for Windows. That would be ridiculous. There may be 1300 of us on this list but there are a lot more visually impaired people in the world and they have just begun to tap into our market. The longer they keep ITunes for Windows accessible, the more of us will have a chance to decide to go over to their side. They have already proven that. They know there is a market out there and they are going to continue to go after it. How many non visually impaired people in our families have gone over to Apple since we told them what Apple has been doing for us, and that will continue. Steve Jobbs had a vision and they know it and, if we are smart, we will continue to let them smell our money. After all, it's the same colour as non visually impaired people's money. The lack of iTunes accessibility under Windows won't be a reason for people to not get an iPhone, and Apple's answer to the people who want or need to use iTunes may just be, OK, great, go ahead and get a Mac. RE: iTunes 11 is out
So maybe I'll hold off on installing itunes 11 then until freedom scientific either releases an update to fix this issue with the menu or until apple releases an update to 11. Perhaps though the best solution would be to purchase a mac book computer for my apple products as this would complement the apple ecosystem. RE: iTunes 11 is out
I have, but I never really thought iTunes was accessible with jaws to begin with. It's useable, but I much prefer using it on the mac, as opposed to the PC. Fir stoff, the menu bar doesn't read at all, and there's just generally a lot more tabbing around than in previous versions. Also, when arrowing through the album grid to find a song you want to listen to, JAWS doesn't interrupt, it reads each thing in a row, which is rather annoying. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Marc Rocheleau Sent: Thursday, November 29, 2012 3:58 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: iTunes 11 is out So has anyone downloaded iTunes 11 and tried it with jaws yet? Re: iTunes 11 is out
I don't know about Jaws but Nvda shines through so far with this new release. Also F6 is still usable in this release. I also like how they have done the store. Categories are now organized into separate buttons you can activate and there is now a separate app store. I cannot figure out how to preview one or more tracks, even preview all, of an album or a single. I will play with it some more after my weekend at home with friends. RE: iTunes 11 is out
For the most part iTunes 11 is working well and I like the redesign. The menu bar does not talk when you right-arrow through it at this point, but the shortcut keys still work and pulling down the menus talk. Also there is a button to bring up the menu which speaks fine. I think it's snappier than the previous release. And yes as always in iTunes for Windows, f6 is your friend. Re: iTunes 11 is out
I had a rather strange issue upon first installing iTunes. After rebooting my computer as instructed I was told that my iTunes installation was corrupted and I needed to reinstall. After reinstalling though, everything seems to be running smoothly. In my opinion iTunes 11 is essentially very similar to previous versions of the software; the interface on top is just a little different. I think the interface is a lot less cluttered and the program runs a lot faster. There's a couple of strange accessibility issues at least with JAWS 14 (i.e. the issue of menu names not speaking as others have discussed) but in general the app seems quite accessible. It modifies your library the first time you open the program so I don't think there's any rolling back! I can't figure out where my iPhone's battery level is displayed anymore, but that's really the only omission I've found as of yet. Re: iTunes 11 is out
Actually, if you hit control s while in itunes for Windows, you get back the sidebar category treeview that we're all used to so it's not bad at all really. Re: iTunes 11 is out
I downloaded iTunes 11, on both the Mac and PC. It looks okay on both sides.
