OK, it makes me feel better to have found you and another individual
who are seeing the same issue. Are we aware of a means to send this
problem up to Apple? I'm sure someone by now should have noticed the
issue, but I don't know if there's a way to log the problem. Thanks

Hi Joe,

I've been experiencing similar behavior as well with my iPhone SE 2020 and 
smart battery case. It seems to be intermittent, meaning that sometimes that 
happens some days it doesn't. I have not yet found any one thing that I can do 
to either trigger or fix it. Hopefully Apple addresses this soon. After all, 
that's the whole point of using their smart battery case over aftermarket 
products.

Thanks for that information; I learned something new today. I was thinking 
about two friends who recently got sevens, both 32, and I thought, oh no, they 
won't benefit either. I see what you mean, kind of like my Victor Reader 
Stream, what it has itself and what is on the SD card.

Carolyn the SE is a 64 bit system. The 32 you are referring to is the amount of 
storage which is 32 GB. And yes, you should upgrade to IOS 12.

32 bit apps will never be supported again. So, either the developer needs to 
update their apps, or you have to find a replacement or stay on 10.3.3.

Carolyn the SE is a 64 bit system. The 32 you are referring to is the amount 
of storage which is 32 GB. And yes, you should upgrade to IOS 12.

32 bit apps will never be supported again. So, either the developer needs to 
update their apps, or you have to find a replacement or stay on 10.3.3.

Lisa, I would say that the issue with Bard is definitely not standard 
behavior with an upgrade and I did not have this with either my ITouch or 
IPhone. I am constantly surprised when people have such diverse experiences 
when upgrading the same model of phones. But this might have been because 
you were skipping IOS 11 whereas I was not.

Well, I haven't had that much trouble, to be honest.  Most of my
settings were intact with one huge exception that I'll talk about below.


The only issue I had was with the BARD app.  I couldn't navigate from
tab to tab at all.  I closed the app, restarted the phone, and had the
same problem.  My next step would have been uninstalling and then
downloading it again.  But I checked the main settings screen and found
the BARD Mobile app and found an option to initialize settings within
that subsection.


This meant that when I reopened the app, I had to agree to the BARD
terms of service and reenter my user name and password.  Once this was
done, my bookshelf, wish list and previous downloads were restored,
though I did have to readjust settings for using cellular data from
within the BARD Mobile app.  Oh, and the option to hear progress beeps
was on when I had it set to off before the update.


For all I know this could be standard behavior, but I don't remember
having to do it when I was using BARD with my iPhone 5, but who knows. I
tend to block out stressful technical things to keep my sanity. 


The battery seems to be draining faster than usual.  I'm assuming this
is part of the update as indicated in the article someone mentioned on
this list the other day.


Also, I have downloaded the SIRI female voice to use with VO.  It works
great, but I can't adjust anything as far as volume, speaking rate or
pitch is concerned.  I've got speaking rate and volume on my rotor, and
they do absolutely nothing for the female SIRI voice.  I have UK and
Australian voices in my rotor, as well as the male SIRI U.S. voice and
they all can be adjusted.


None of these are showstoppers for me.  I'm sure I'll run across minor
things.  So far every app I've opened that is part of the native iOS
package gives me welcome screens and little summaries about new
features.  But all works as it should once I've gotten past those screens.

I agree that everyone who is blind should have Seeing AI on their phone, but if 
you want a stand alone money identifier for US currency that will tell you 
whether it is the front or back of the bill, EyeNote works great and is the 
only one that does front/back.

I mention the front/back thing because I had a client who really, really wanted 
to keep his money all facing the same direction in his wallet.

If you need to identify money from something over  20 countries including the 
US, then Money Reader is the one you want.

But, Seeing AI is the most useful app for multiple functions in the app store, 
and its money identifier works as well as any other, you simply have to flick 
to that channel.  I personally tend to use one of the dedicated money 
identifiers when all I want to do is check my folding money, but if I already 
am using Seeing AI, I will simply use it rather than switching to another ap.

It is great to have choices.

Well, I haven't had that much trouble, to be honest.  Most of my 
settings were intact with one huge exception that I'll talk about below.



The only issue I had was with the BARD app.  I couldn't navigate from 
tab to tab at all.  I closed the app, restarted the phone, and had the 
same problem.  My next step would have been uninstalling and then 
downloading it again.  But I checked the main settings screen and found 
the BARD Mobile app and found an option to initialize settings within 
that subsection.



This meant that when I reopened the app, I had to agree to the BARD 
terms of service and reenter my user name and password.  Once this was 
done, my bookshelf, wish list and previous downloads were restored, 
though I did have to readjust settings for using cellular data from 
within the BARD Mobile app.  Oh, and the option to hear progress beeps 
was on when I had it set to off before the update.



For all I know this could be standard behavior, but I don't remember 
having to do it when I was using BARD with my iPhone 5, but who knows. I 
tend to block out stressful technical things to keep my sanity. 



The battery seems to be draining faster than usual.  I'm assuming this 
is part of the update as indicated in the article someone mentioned on 
this list the other day.



Also, I have downloaded the SIRI female voice to use with VO.  It works 
great, but I can't adjust anything as far as volume, speaking rate or 
pitch is concerned.  I've got speaking rate and volume on my rotor, and 
they do absolutely nothing for the female SIRI voice.  I have UK and 
Australian voices in my rotor, as well as the male SIRI U.S. voice and 
they all can be adjusted.



None of these are showstoppers for me.  I'm sure I'll run across minor 
things.  So far every app I've opened that is part of the native iOS 
package gives me welcome screens and little summaries about new 
features.  But all works as it should once I've gotten past those screens.

Just go to Settings > General > About, I am pretty sure it was there where it 
will show you a list of apps which are 32 bit and would be a problem. If you 
realize all your apps are 64 bit then I really think you should update, iOS 12 
is the best iOS in many years and your SE will run better and faster.

Robin, most of the apps I had that weren't compatible with iOS 11 would 
pop up a message saying the developer needed to update the app before it 
would work with iOS 11.  This was a pop up dialog that appeared when the 
app was opened and could be gotten rid of with a double tap of the Okay 
button.  Once that dialog was gone, the app functioned normally.

32 bit apps will never be supported again. So, either the developer needs to 
update their apps, or you have to find a replacement or stay on 10.3.3.

I didn't update from a few iOS updates back but I notice that my iPad 
mini 2 takes longer than my iPhone X does. the phone updates in like 5 
minutes

because I could get a running progress bar regarding update status, 
but now I'm thinking I might deal with an hour or so of uncertainty 
and do the over air update.Â  We don't have an Apple store here, 
just a Verizon store where I had the phone set up originally, and I 
don't have a pair of working eyeballs around to handle reading a 
phone screen..



Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Kelly,

True, if you backup to iTunes you could simply press the update button. I used 
to always do this until about iOS 10 or so and then I have always done my 
updates over the air. I also sometimes do a Reset Network Settings just because 
I think it's good practice, it clears WiFi networks you have previously 
connected to and can fix battery issues etc. However, often I just also clear 
all apps and do a reboot of the phone before an update. I enjoy Rob's Today in 
iOS Podcast and he is definitely knowledgeable, but in certain respects he is 
also like an old dog with a bone, he just can't let go and he is not 
necessarily always objective when it comes to his reporting style.

For what it’s worth, I oversaw of friends over the air update from iOS 7 to iOS 
a leaven; her iPhone was without issues.

I would also like some advice.  I have an SE running 10.33.  In my case I use a 
Mac running Sierra. Would it be best to update over the air or with iTunes.

Hello Lisa,

I'm not exactly certain if I understand every aspect of your question but my 
general sense is that you should probably do an over-the-air update.  To me, 
generally speaking, it seems to be the least disruptive method.  

As to the remainder of your question, unless you have a specific reason to use 
iTunes for business, I would recommend the latest standard version of iTunes 
for your Windows 10 PC.  Again, this is generally speaking.  

Should you decide, however, to install iTunes for business on your Windows 10 
PC, then you will first need to uninstall any previous version of iTunes that 
has a version number greater than 12.6.5.3.

If you are uncertain or are not versed in the mechanics of the iTunes storage 
file system, then I highly recommend against installing iTunes for business 
unless you are certain that no other version of iTunes has already been 
installed on your Windows 10 PC.

Regardless of your choice, be certain to make an iCloud backup of your iOS 10.x 
phone before you begin any update process.

From what I'm Hearin, Apple's iOS12 is Stable & 
Snappy, which hasn't been the case  with the

it'll tell you how to configure your iOS device for System Access email. HTH 
and that's exciting that iOS 7 might be coming next Wednesday. Now I really
