Hello all,

I just ordered a refurb iPad Air from Amazon -- no worries, it was rated 4.1
stars. However, does everyone who has one still like it and use it regularly?
Is their anything important I should know?I know how to set up IOS, just want
to make sure there isnt anything else important that I need to know for when I
get it. I know it has been awhile, since I've posted.

Thanks,

Portia.

This is a known issue for some users. Apparently the work-around for now is to

Re: iPad Air Blanks out

2015-10-08 Thread rajmund

Hello,
I tried it with a braille sense u2. Although, I'm still using
POP on the note takers. A way to get the IPad to sink with POP
is to delete the message once you've read it, which, I always
have, anyway. Whatever I don't delete, though, that
redownloads, but that's OK, since I always delete. Oh, if POP
doesn't delete something, IMAP will get it again, too, but again,
because I delete with POP, that's also OK.

kind of felt like Microsoft didn't get the multithreading right

It's most definitely a bug. I doubt it has anything to do with
IMAP. I
use IMAP on multiple devices, and it works just the same as it
always
has. There's also nothing to indicate that the person who

it's
implementation of IMAP, then ikt's still a bug, and it still

2015-10-08 Thread Alex Hall
IMAP is still slow on the Sense? I'm not surprised--notetakers always seem to
be behind the curve, often way behind. Rest assured, though, that IMAP on iOS
devices or regular computers won't be slow at all, and the benefits are great.

The odd thing about it is, it doesn't do it all the time. At first I thought
it happene after I sent a message but that proved to be wrong. It now

The fact that it's intermittent doesn't mean it isn't a bug. You are
right though, it will make it harder to debug.

Re: iPad Air Blanks out

2015-10-07 Thread Christopher Chaltain
It's most definitely a bug. I doubt it has anything to do with IMAP. I
use IMAP on multiple devices, and it works just the same as it always
has. There's also nothing to indicate that the person who started this
thread is even using IMAP. If it is a bug in the Mail app, and it's
implementation of IMAP, then ikt's still a bug, and it still needs to be
addressed by Apple.

I'll second that! I didn't update my iPhone or iPad until I got back from
Virginia where we attended a family wedding and didn't want to deal with issues
and a new OS. Nice to use the public as your beta testers but that's the
modern world today. We'll fix it later seems to be the way things goes today.

Re: iPad Air Blanks out

2015-10-07 Thread Alan Paganelli
I'm not quite sure because it's not doing it now so it comes and goes which
means it's probably not a bug. That makes it worse though because trying to
find something that only happens every now and then is a problem that is very
hard to reproduce.

Hello all,
Does anyone have recommendations for an Ipad air 2 case or bag?
I am looking for something that
1. not bulk up the unit
2. protects the unit
3. or perhaps something with a carry strap
Thanks.

hello, I hope this message is going to the right person. I would love to get my

arrangements? I am on a very limited income. how much are you asking for the

Re: IPad air and iPad Mini?

2014-05-10 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi,

Arguably the iPad iPad mini / mini retina are different product
lines, so it's not really a case of the air being newer than a mini
persay because they're different products.

Cheers,
Ben.

RE: IPad air and iPad Mini?

2014-05-10 Thread Lynda Ingraham
Hi Rob,

The Ipad mini is smaller than the original Ipad. I traded in a gen Ipad to
purchase a smaller mini with retina display. I find the sound much better on
the new mini I have than the 4th gen. NLS books sound outstanding on the
mini. The vo voice is also clearer too.

Have a great day,

Re: IPad air and iPad Mini?

2014-05-10 Thread Alan Paganelli
The iPad Air is the newest iPad and is larger then the iPad mini. The Air
is roughly about the size of a netbook computer screen. As I recall, the
air is roughly 9.7 inches diagonal. They named it the Air because of it's
weight. It only weighs a pound and is only a half inch thick. If you hold
it like an iPhone meaning your holding the skinny side, the power button is
in the top right hand corner etc.

The Air top of the line model has 128 GB of storage and both WI-FI and
cellular data. It will set you back just under a thousand bucks USD. This
is the model I have. It's very good for traveling and for those times when
you can't get a WI-FI network, you can usually get cellular data. I got it
to take with me when we travel in our motor home.

The lowest priced model is WI-FI only and has 16 GB of storage. The picture
is truly HD.

Hope that helps.

Hi!

I bought my iPad air at the ATT store. There is a screen protector for the

RE: iPad Air Cases

2014-01-21 Thread Scott Duck
Hi Alan,

I have a case like that and I have stopped using it because it is great when
you need the keyboard but it really gets in the way when you don't need it.
The keyboard is just hanging there, flopping around, and there is no good
way to get it out of the way. I have found that it is better to just have a
separate keyboard that I can pull out and use when I need it. Now, on the
other hand, my mother-in-law has the exact same case that I have and she
loves it. I guess it's just a matter of preference.

Thanks,

Scott Duck

RE: iPad Air Cases

2014-01-21 Thread Pinky
Hi Allan,

I have an iPad 4 and I ordered a Targus case from Amazon. This case comes
with a Bluetooth keyboard and you can turn it to make it stand up like what
you were talking about. I bought the white case and it was around $35.00
The other Target cases that were different color were higher price. The
reason I got this Targus case is the keys on the keyboard are space apart
like on a windows keyboard so you can feel the keys. They are not close
together like on a laptop that make them hard to feel. It's a nice case
that protect your iPad and is not real expensive.

Re: iPad Air Cases

2014-01-21 Thread Alan Paganelli
Scot, you bring up a good point and I had wondered about that. It doesn't seem
like it's that hard to remove the iPad Air from the case, but then what do you
do with the case. It's not like you can just stick it in your back pocket.
I'm lucky in that I still have my Amazon Basics Bluetooth keyboard and if I
have to go the way of no case that's a possibility too. Now that I'm thinking
about it, I suppose I can just hold off for a wile and see how it flies.
Thanks for replying!

  Hi Alan,

I have a case like that and I have stopped using it because it is great when
you need the keyboard but it really gets in the way when you don't need it.
The keyboard is just hanging there, flopping around, and there is no good way
to get it out of the way. I have found that it is better to just have a
separate keyboard that I can pull out and use when I need it. Now, on the
other hand, my mother-in-law has the exact same case that I have and she loves
it. I guess it's just a matter of preference.

  Thanks,

  Scott Duck

  Subject: iPad Air Cases

  Hi All,

The other day my wife and I were in the ATT store ordering our iPad Airs. We
were looking at cases too wile we were there. We saw several cases that let
you turn your Air into a laptop. The air slides into the top of the case so it
looks like the screen of a netbook or laptop. The case then has a QWERTY
keyboard which connects via Bluetooth. Sense I'm replacing my netbook computer
with the iPad Air, this kind of case seems to be just what I'm looking for.
Walmart had such a case for 99 dollars. Does anybody know about these cases or
have an iPod Air with such an animal? If so, I'd like to know which one you
have and how well you like it.

Thanks in advance for anything you can tell me about it. My air is on it's
way so I'm in the market for that style of case.

  Regards,

  Alan

Re: iPad Air Question

2014-01-05 Thread Sherrie
I have the iPhone 5 and the iPad Retina or whatever the one just before the
air is. Mostly my sighted husband uses the iPad and the larger screen size
is good for him. However, he is totally ignorant electronically so I have
to set up everything for him, explore the apps and generally use the iPad.
I find that many basic apps are laid out differently and are very confusing
and difficult to use. I could not type very well on it at all until I got
the speed dots screen protector. It was worth the high price. I even
bought the blue tooth keyboard to use with it.
One problem to me is the large size. I am used to the placement of items on
my phone and it is a much different reach on the iPad.
I have not found anything that can be done on the iPad that I can't do
better on my iPhone 5.
If my husband was not enjoying reading iBooks and playing some games on it I
would consider it a huge financial waste.
Maybe I would like the mini better but if you have an iPhone and are blind I
really feel the iPhone is much easier to use and much more portable.

Of course I have a 64g iPhone so have room for lots of stuff.
Just my personal opinion.
Sherrie

Shear size! they probably take up the same proportion of the glass on all
devices, indeed some of the new ones have working screen so much closer to
the outside edges than before. But proportion is the key word, big device
means big screen and does require bigger gestures. I guess the firmware or
ios calculates the significance of gestures by proportion of movement so
that it works sensibly on all of them regardless of size.

iPad range puts more on the bigger screen since there's room forit, so get
used to the idea of having more to look for or find on them. Web, windows
and most other platforms have the concept of main area of screen and
sidebar like a menu, often a top bar with options, and so on; so you get
all this, insteadof burrowing down layer by layer in the small devices.
So it's more sophisticated, or complicated to get used to, and so much more
convenient when you do.

Hi All,

With the talk about the iPad mini and people having difficulty in locating
the keys and buttons, this brings up a few questions I have before I buy my
iPad Air. I am assuming the screen of the iPad Air is going to be exactly
like that on my iPhone 5s is this correct or am I in for a surprise or two?
I as of yet have not laid hands on the iPad Air. With all the recent talk
of the iPad mini, what if any are the differences between the Air and the
Mini? Thanks in advance for any illumination you can shed on my problems.

Re: iPad Air Question

2014-01-05 Thread Alan Paganelli
Hi Chris, as I understand it, the iPad air uses the same chip as does the
iPhone 5s. I dashed off my original message about rather quickly as I was
late for an appointment and should of been more explicit over what
information I was asking after.

I should of said will there be any differences in screen layout on the air
from what I'm seeing on my 5s iPhone?

Hi
i think you will be surprised, the iPad Air and iPad mini as far as
screen size goes is far bigger than the iPhone 5s, however the mini is
smaller as the screen size is 7.9 inches whereas the Air is 9.7 inches.
Now as for the two devices together they perform exactly the same as
each other, however I heard the mini's processor is slightly
underclocked than the same processor on the Air.

Re: iPad Air Question

2014-01-05 Thread Alan Paganelli
Chris, is there any reason why some controls may be at the top of the screen
on the iPad verses the iPhone and on the bottom of the screen on the iPhone?
I understand that the iPad air has a much larger screen then does the iPhone
5s. What I'm not understanding is why would the buttons be at the top of
the screen on one device and on the bottom of the screen on the other. Are
there going to be those sorts of differences often? Is this going to be
like a totally different experience then that of the iPhone 5s? Are there
any members out there with both an iPhone 5s and an iPad Air who can give me
an over view of any differences between the layout on the screens of both
devices. Sorry for my confusion here. I suppose I'll find out soon enough
either way as my wife and I should be getting the air today.

I hadn't thought about typing on the air with my hands. That should make it
easier then to type on the air as it's larger. My kids are both sighted and in

it on a 48 inch TV. It didn't occur to me that the larger screen could be
drawn to make better use of the information being presented. As was said, I
won't have to drill down through as much. because it will already be there.
Hopefully, it cuts down on the flicking and such.

Thanks so much!

Yes, just like what Sieghard said. Also, when you said keys and buttons will
be in different places, in some cse it will be different places. for example,
you got twice as much space on the keyboard than on the iphone if not more, and
the gab between apps will be wider from one to another.
Some apps lay out will be different from the ipad and iphone. Some apps use
containers on the ipad more so than on the iphone.
As far as the differences between mini retina and the air is concern, it is
really, the size.
With my experience on trying both ipad air and the mini retina, i don't see
much different in speed. If it does might be some milisecond different.
I honestly don't believe it though. considering they both using the same
processer and everything, the only explaination that i can think of that might
slow down the mini retina a bit will be the retina screen.

RE: iPad Air Question

2014-01-05 Thread Cristóbal
I prefer typing on the smaller iPhone screen rather than the iPad. That
said, with Siri available to take dictation, typing should be less of an
occurance if that is one’s preference on the newer iPads.

I find it easier and faster to glide across the keyboard with one finger
or thumb on the phone. Whereas on the iPad, you have to go hunting for
letters and symbols. That and with the iPad you’ll quite nearly always need
two hands while with the phone, it’s a one handed device. Ultimately though,
it’s a question of personal preference.

I hadn't thought about typing on the air with my hands. That should make it
easier then to type on the air as it's larger. My kids are both sighted and
in their youth. They do this thing with typing with their thumbs. My son
says get with the program dad and get out of the stone age! So you can see
from that why I like my tag line so much. I'm not usually a tag line fan
but that one was to good to pass up. Thanks to all for their comments and

Re: iPad Air Question

2014-01-05 Thread Alan Paganelli

Hi Penny,

In contacting the ATT store, it's amazing how many of them are out of
stock. The iPad Air we want is the 128 GB model with both WI-FI and
Cellular data. We do travel in our motor home and you can usually find
WI-FI but it's in cities or large towns. However, in the country or farm
lands etc, your more likely to find only cellular. Some times when your
really out in the sticks, you cant get either but even at almost a thousand
bucks, they are still low or out of stock. So the ATT stores don't open up
for another half hour but we'll see. I'm not crazy about ordering it online
when I can just go pick it up in the store. We'll see.

My thanks to all those who so kindly shared with me their experiences. I
appreciate it very much.

Hi, I got the IPad Air for Christmas. I'm still learning about it. The
keyboard, in particular, is somewhat different from the keyboard on my
IPhone. For example, the at-sign (@) is next to the M on the Letters
keyboard. And, the location of the indicator for how much the IPad is
charged is on the very far right across from the time - a little
different from where I find the charging info on my IPhone.
I'm looking forward to using the IPad Air for reading, but I haven't
managed to find a book on BARD yet, although I had no problem locating
two books I bought from Audible.com a couple of days ago and beginning
to read one of them.

Enjoy your new IPad!

Alan, we looked at the iPad air before we got our many. The iPad air has a
larger screen. I believe it's 9.7 inches. I believe that's the major difference
between the air in the mini. The mini is also a little lighter for my wife, it
was easier for her to use.

RE: iPad Air Question

2014-01-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Alan,

When you say I am assuming the screen of the iPad Air is going to be
exactly like that on my iPhone 5s what exactly do you mean? I imagine you
know that the iPad Air is huge compared to an iPhone 5S and I was wondering
if you mean that it's exactly like the 5S screen in how it feels and its
responsiveness.

Apart from that Chris had it exactly right, 7.9 inches diagonal for the
Mini, 9.7 inches diagonal for the Air compare that to 4 inches diagonal on
the iPhone 5/5C/5S. As for the diagonal size, the iPad Mini is twice as big
as an iPhone.

Regards,

Sieghard

2014-01-04 Thread RobH.
Shear size! they probably take up the same proportion of the glass on all
devices, indeed some of the new ones have working screen so much closer to
the outside edges than before.

True! Mrs and I both started on full size iPads, found them a bit big to use

Alan, we looked at the iPad air before we got our many. The iPad air has a
larger screen. I believe it's 9.7 inches. I believe that's the major
difference between the air in the mini. The mini is also a little lighter
for my wife, it was easier for her to use.

Re: iPad Air Question

2014-01-04 Thread Joanne Chua
Yes, just like what Sieghard said. Also, when you said keys and buttons will be
in different places, in some cse it will be different places. for example, you
got twice as much space on the keyboard than on the iphone if not more, and the
gab between apps will be wider from one to another.

2014-01-04 Thread Penny Reeder

Penny

Yes, just like what Sieghard said. Also, when you said keys and buttons will
be in different places, in some cse it will be different places. for
example, you got twice as much space on the keyboard than on the iphone if
not more, and the gab between apps will be wider from one to another.
I honestly don't believe it though. considering they both using the same
processer and everything, the only explaination that i can think of that
might slow down the mini retina a bit will be the retina screen.

 Hi Alan,

When you say “I am assuming the screen of the iPad Air is going to be

wondering if you mean that it’s exactly like the 5S screen in how it feels
 and its responsiveness.
Apart from that Chris had it exactly right, 7.9 inches diagonal for the
Mini, 9.7 inches diagonal for the Air compare that to 4 inches diagonal on
the iPhone 5/5C/5S. As for the diagonal size, the iPad Mini is twice as
 big as an iPhone.

 Subject: iPad Air Question

 Hi All,

With the talk about the iPad mini and people having difficulty in locating
the keys and buttons, this brings up a few questions I have before I buy
my iPad Air. I am assuming the screen of the iPad Air is going to be
exactly like that on my iPhone 5s is this correct or am I in for a
surprise or two? I as of yet have not laid hands on the iPad Air. With
all the recent talk of the iPad mini, what if any are the differences
between the Air and the Mini? Thanks in advance for any illumination you
 can shed on my problems.

 Alan

That seems unlikely given the touch screen. Do the apple bluetooth keybards

Re: iPad air or iPad mini retena

2013-11-19 Thread David Chittenden
Considering that the new iPad Mini has not been released yet to my knowledge,
the older iPad Mini does not have the newer, more powerful 64 bit processor, or
the separate coprocessor for monitoring the built-in sensors. It also does not
have the improved battery life.

I personally would wait until next month after the new iPad Mini is released.
It will be functionally equivalent to the new iPad Air, only with a smaller
display.

Actually, the new minis were released last week. At least that is the case in
the United States.

Considering that the new iPad Mini has not been released yet to my knowledge,
the older iPad Mini does not have the newer, more powerful 64 bit processor,

not have the improved battery life.

I personally would wait until next month after the new iPad Mini is released.
It will be functionally equivalent to the new iPad Air, only with a smaller
 display.

Go for the cheaper mini if the larger screen does not bother you, which

If not I'd rather get the cheeper mini.

Any advice welcome and thank you.

Re: Ipad air and blue tooth keyboard

2013-11-11 Thread Joanne Chua
I have both Ultrathin Keyboard cover for iPad and iPad Mini by
Logitech. I love it. I believe they just release the Ultrathin
Keyboard Cover for iPad Air.
They are not as raise keys as you may get for a normal plustic full
size keyboard for windows, but they are very similar to the Apple
keyboard type of keys. I believe Apple Store do carry them, if not,
you miht able to get it from Amazon or most computer assessarries
stores will have them too.

Re: Ipad air and blue tooth keyboard

2013-11-11 Thread Billy Maynard

hi joanne,

thank you. I'd probly wanna go feel of htem. like I said I don't like the
flat lab top kybards. I'd have to look ath tem to see if they were like I
wanted. might go see if my phone carrior (verizan) carries the apple
keybard to see if it's raised enough. Thanks again for hte information.
The vertual keyboard is nice but, for the speed of touch typing. hmm it's
no where near as fast. I wonder if hte vertual keybard on a tablet is big
enough to do touchtyping. probly not since you'd have all of your fingers
on it at the same time and that's probly confuse VO or what you were
pushing anyway.
