I wonder how much difference the 2X2 MIMO in the SE versus the 4X4 MIMO in the 13s makes? I’m thinking the mmWav 5G not being in the SE wouldn’t make a difference to most people right now.I certainly don’t need another iPhone, but I considered buying the new SE anyway. For while I can handle Face ID without too much trouble most of the time in the day and the evening, I find myself switching back to my SE 2020 when I go to bed at night. I often wake up in the middle of the night and want to check something on my phone, but I just can’t seem to get the Face ID to work when I’m in the bed like that and I get tired of entering the passcode all the time. Sent from Mail for Windows From: Kelly PierceSent: Wednesday, March 23, 2022 12:18 AMTo: viphone@googlegroups.comSubject: Re: what to choose Half of the usefulness of iPhones is iOS. I heard today that when talking to someone at apple accessibility,
that the 13 pro iPhone goes up to one terabyte in size. The cost for
this phone is about $1500. Of course this price doesn't include apple
care, or any tax. Who knows, maybe this time next year, there might
even be a phone with 2 terabytes of storage. When it comes to good
sounding bluetooth speakers, I like my fourth generation echo, and my
bose speaker. I've also got an anker motion+ that has very good sound
especially with the bass boost button. Tribit also makes some very
nice speakers as well. I've got a 30 watt speaker from zoetree that
sounds quite nice as well. There's a w-king 80 watt speaker I'd love
to try out as well.

Half of the usefulness of iPhones is iOS. To get the biggest bang for
your money, go with the most recent processor. These phones would be
from the 13 series and the SE 2022. The original SE was introduced in
2016 and is still receiving updates six years later. I have the
iPhone Mini and love the small size and the 512 GB of storage. I plan
on transferring most of my music to this phone and buying a great
sounding Marshall Bluetooth speaker to play it on. The highest storage
level for the SE 2022 is 256 GB.

2022-03-18 Thread Alan Lemly
Richard,

Actually, the iPhone 13 Mini is physically smaller than the SE 2020 and 2022.
Although its screen specs are larger, the 13 Mini has an overall smaller form
factor.

The 13 mini is not the same as the SE 2022.

13 mini has no home button, the SE 2022 does.

I have not refreshed my memory, but I do not believe they are the same size
either. The SE is smaller, same as the previous SE 2020 and the iPhone 8, and
7.

I have not tested with things like fish packets in a store; but I doubt very
much Seeing AI or any other scanning app uses the zoom camera; so I suspect the
results will be the same given decent lighting and clear text.

I don't have direct experience with the 13 mini, but if you have the original
SE, then the battery life will be far better with the 13 mini.

Otherwise, from your description, the basic 64GB should be enough.

Thanks for explaining this, Richard. I think I can live without LIDAR but it
does sound clever.
The main reason I plan on replacing my 6SE, which is still working well, is
it’s poor battery life, especially when using apps like Duo Lingo. This may be
of course because of its age!

LIDAR is a sensor that helps in detailed measurement, but also is being used
for object detection. So, with an app like superLidar or Seeing AI with its
World Channel, you can detect objects and one of them, and I don’t recall which
one, will tell you if there is a person with a mask or not wearing a mask, tell
you how far away from you the object is. Like, a person in a line, etc.
The blindness apps are just beginning to explore uses for it, so it is a
feature in development.

When I got the SE 2020, also called 2nd edition, I was impressed that it has
stereo sound, which doesn’t mean much unless you just about put your nose on
the screen, but it has a much fuller sound than the previous phones.

Whether its battery life is better than the 13 mini, or about the same, I have
no idea.

But back to LIDAR, that is only on the 12 and 13 pro models anyway. I love the
battery life I’m getting on my 13 pro; but I was in a good position to buy the
phone and I know lots of people couldn’t put out that kind of money. I bought
it partly for the LIDAR and frankly, haven’t used it for that.

The sound and the recording quality on the 13 pro is excellent though.

I would not be surprised if the microphones are as good in the SE 2022/3rd gen
as in the 13 pro.

If you search for iPhone SE 3rd gen specs, you can find out the exact battery
size and then do a search for the 13 mini specs and compare the two.

HTH,

Richard

Thanks Richard. I suspect the SE 2022 is going to meet my needs. What exactly
is the LIDAR sensor?
I rarely use my iphone as a camera and just want good battery life and a
reasonable memory and good sound output, although I mostly use earphones with

screen while VoiceOver is on, you wouldn’t know which iPhone you had, other
than if it had a home button or not.

Alan mentioned the SE 3rd generation available today, probably also will be
known as the SE 2022; has the smaller screen, still has the home button and
touch ID, and has the same chip as the 13, known as the A15 chip and will
pretty much do everything the more expensive phones will do other than having
the extra cameras and the LIDAR sensor.
But, the LIDAR sensor is only on the pro models of the 12 and 13, which are at
the top of the price range. Well, to be exact, the pro max phones are at the
top of the price range and are quite large, then the pro models, which are
larger than some, but unless you have really small hands, should be quite
manageable.

You really need to think about what features you want and how much memory.

I’d encourage you to go to the apple.com site and check out the different
models.

Also, does anyone know whether AT Guys or someone else will make a dotted

appeals to me, due to small hands. Thanks!

RE: what to choose

2022-03-18 Thread Richard Turner
If you have the original SE, and it is working fine other than the battery, you
could get the battery replaced.

However, you will have a much better experience with a new phone.

If you plan to store music on your phone, consider the 128 GB if that is
offered.

RE: what to choose

2022-03-18 Thread CJ & AA MAY
Thanks Richard. I suspect the SE 2022 is going to meet my needs. What exactly
is the LIDAR sensor?

I rarely use my iphone as a camera and just want good battery life and a
reasonable memory and good sound output, although I mostly use earphones with
my iPhone. I also like the idea of it being smaller.

All iPhones are equally accessible. IN fact, if you were just touching the
screen while VoiceOver is on, you wouldn’t know which iPhone you had, other
than if it had a home button or not.

I’d encourage you to go to the apple.com site and check out the different
models.

https://www.apple.com/iphone/

Or, if you can, go in to an Apple store and get some hands on; but if you do
that, make an appointment first.

Hth,

Richard

2022-03-18 Thread CJ & AA MAY
My current phone has 64 gb. And seems sufficienty for my needs. Of course, I
know I would in time learn to use a phone without a home button but the SE 2022
does sound more like what I am looking for and why put myself through an
unnecessary learning curve?

Thanks to everyone for their comments. It is helping me make my mind up.

Hi Alison,

All iPhones should be equally accessible since they all run iOS.

The Pro models of the iPhone 12 and 13 have LIDAR capability but those models
are at the top of the price chain.

I think at some point learning to use the models with face ID and no home
button is a good thing but only you can answer how important a home button is
to you. The iPhone SE third generation also called the SE 2022 announced last
week is a very capable phone and is the best price starting at $429 USD for a
new model with 64GB capacity. Add an additional $50 for each 64GB of additional
capacity. This model still has a home button and enough camera capability to
handle any OCR done by the iPhone for reading, etc.

I'm very much enjoying my iPhone 13 Mini because I like its smaller form factor
but must admit that it took me a bit of time to get used to no home button. The
nice thing about iPhones is that you can customize them extensively to work as
you like.

Good luck with your decision.

RE: what to choose

2022-03-18 Thread Richard Turner
The 13 mini is not the same as the SE 2022.

13 mini has no home button, the SE 2022 does.

I have not refreshed my memory, but I do not believe they are the same size
either. The SE is smaller, same as the previous SE 2020 and the iPhone 8, and
7.

Also, does anyone know whether AT Guys or someone else will make a dotted

appeals to me, due to small hands. Thanks!

I, for one, was fortunate to make an easy transition to a phone without a Home

be a deal breaker now, for me to consider getting the SE2 or 3.

RE: what to choose

2022-03-18 Thread Richard Turner
All iPhones are equally accessible. IN fact, if you were just touching the
screen while VoiceOver is on, you wouldn’t know which iPhone you had, other
than if it had a home button or not.

I’d encourage you to go to the apple.com site and check out the different
models.

https://www.apple.com/iphone/

Or, if you can, go in to an Apple store and get some hands on; but if you do
that, make an appointment first.

Hth,

Richard

I think at some point learning to use the models with face ID and no home

2022-03-18 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
It all depends on what kind of iPhone you are looking for. What
things are important to you? For me, my next iPhone will have the
most storage space possible and I'm also going to be looking at
battery life. Maybe, you still want a phone with the home button.
So, the new SE22 phone will be a good choice for you. Good luck.

My current iPhone 6 SE is ready for updating, which I plan to do soon.
Are there any of the newer models I should avoid or are they all equally
accessible? I realise I am going to have to learn how to cope without a home
button.
