Right. But I guess the new feature is that all purchases can now be
shared between all Apple IDs set up within the family sharing group. The
other new feature is if one of the members makes a purchase and they do
not have sufficient credit or a credit card on file with Apple ID, the
organizer approves or rejects each purchase.

If you can share subscriptions then I haven't found a way either. I have an
iTunes Match subscription which expires next week, not too bothered about it
though as didn't suit my needs, I prefer storing music both locally and in
the cloud in case my internet ever goes offline.

This was my original thought when Family Sharing was introduced. I guess I can
understand the not seeing other people's purchases, but if I'm going to be

That and this way, there aren't issues with in app purchases that may need to

that going to work? Is it as simple as signing out of the app store on
her devices and her signing back in with her ID or is she going to
have to start from scratch and sync through her computer? All devices
are still on iOS 7.1.2. Would it be best for her just to do the iOS 8
update over the air instead of me setting it up through iTunes on my PC as
 I've always done.
I have another family member with a similar situation. As in having
their iPad Mini under my ID.

If you can share subscriptions then I haven't found a way either. I
have an iTunes Match subscription which expires next week, not too
bothered about it though as didn't suit my needs, I prefer storing

Well this isn't going to work for you then since you are on iOS 7. I don't
know if other family members have to be on iOS 8 but I bet so since even
joining family sharing wouldn't be possible under iOS 7 never mind setting
it up in the first place.

own Apple ID, but only uses it to sign into Facetime and iMessages, her own

So if we wanted to set up Family Sharing with me as the admin, how is that
going to work? Is it as simple as signing out of the app store on her
devices and her signing back in with her ID or is she going to have to start
from scratch and sync through her computer? All devices are still on iOS
7.1.2. Would it be best for her just to do the iOS 8 update over the air
instead of me setting it up through iTunes on my PC as I've always done.
I have another family member with a similar situation. As in having their
iPad Mini under my ID.

2014-10-01 Thread Christopher Hallsworth
Well this isn't going to work for you then since you are on iOS 7. I
don't know if other family members have to be on iOS 8 but I bet so
since even joining family sharing wouldn't be possible under iOS 7 never
mind setting it up in the first place.

Kindel account and so on for example.
I've always just backed up the devices on my computer as she doesn't even
have iTunes installed on her computer. The only thing we ever buy are apps.

If you can share subscriptions then I haven't found a way either. I have an
iTunes Match subscription which expires next week, not too bothered about it
though as didn't suit my needs, I prefer storing music both locally and in
the cloud in case my internet ever goes offline.

One nice advantage is you can buy 1 app and share it with family members.
No need to buy it 20 times one for each family member.

Then you buy them an iTunes gift card. Personally, I love them. My family
members gave me $75 in iTunes gift cards for my birthday and Christmas. Once
you enter them in to your account, they are really handy. You see an app you
want, hit the buy button and your store credit gets tapped. You still get a
receipt showing the amount the object was, be that a song, an album, a book or
an app or even a movie or TV show. In fact, we had this conversation just last
night. My wife asked me the old question, what do you want for Christmas.
There is nothing I really need or want but an iTunes gift card is always
welcome.

Chris,

Family sharing is so you can see the purchases of another family member and
he/she can see yours. You have to add one first. It will all be on one credit
card. You will be able to download each other's apps and music for free. I
guess there is also a calendar that you can share.

They sure can. They would go to the purchased section as normal. Here
they will see an extra section called for example Christopher's
purchases. If they tap or double tap on that they can download what I
have purchased. Very neat!

   Chris,

Family sharing is so you can see the purchases of another family member
and he/she can see yours. You have to add one first. It will all be on one
credit card. You will be able to download each other's apps and music for
free. I guess there is also a calendar that you can share.

do you know how subscriptions can be shared? I've heard it is possible, but
haven't figured it out yet.

From what I understand you can invite famly members to share apps, movies,
songs tones As the family organizer any items that a sharing member
purchases you are responsible for paying. You do have the veto power before a
