Re: emoticons on iPhone
Hi all, Emoji replacement works with the onscreen braille keyboard and dictation, so perhaps it will work with Fleksy too; I really don't know. What you do is type a message. then switch to the Emoji keyboard. if any of the words in the message have Emoji replacements, the word emoji shows up on the rotor. Make sure you're turned to that, and flick up and down to find possible Emoji replacements for words. Double-tap ones you want. In some cases, there is more than one choice, in which case you can flick left and right through those choices and then double-tap. Anna, Do you mind giving us a short refresher on the emoji replacement function in iOS 10? I Googled it and read through a few of the hits but the descriptions were all done from a visual perspective and seemed to use either orange or yellow words for hits with emoji replacements. This wasn't much help. I'd love a review or direction to a discussion of this feature from a voiceover perspective. I also think certain things must be turned on in settings such as a predictive keyboard but I'm not really clear about this. I tend to turn off anything predictive or automatic where keying information in is concerned since the algorithms used seldom come up with my intentions. I also bet that using the Fleksy Keyboard for input messes up the emoji replacement feature. Thanks in advance. Re: Emoticons in iMessages?
Hi. You can do both, either enter them manually with the punctuation/numbers keyboard, or by using the Emogy Keyboard. I forget at the moment how to add the Emoticon keyboard, but think you can find it if you go to Settings, General, Keyboard, International and add it from there. Once added, when the virtual keyboard is showing there will be an Emogy keyboard button to the right of the letters/numbers keyboard button. Double tap this to turn on the emoticon keyboard. Then, there will be a list of categories across the bottom of the keyboard with the symbols themselves in several rows above. There are many pages of symbols so be sure to use the page turning command, 3 finger swipe left/right to view all the available symbols. Also, you may wish to switch to standard typing in order to go through all symbols and not accidentally enter symbols you don't want. One more thing, if sending texts to people that don't have an I-device, make sure they can view emoticons on their devices. I've sent some to family members without iPhones, and they didn't see the included symbols. Remember to double tap the English U.S. keyboard when finished putting in the symbols you want, otherwise your emoticons will appear whenever the virtual keyboard is active. Definitely. I regularly exchange iMessages with my wife and she is always using emoticons that I've never heard of before. Re: Emoticons in iMessages?
Just as an additional note. The Emoji icons are not composed of punctuation symbols as the older style emoticons were. Emoji are actual little pictures which appear in your messages. Just FYI. Enjoy! Cara :) On Dec 17, 2013, at 11:56 AM, Wayne Merritt wcmerr...@gmail.com wrote: Hi. You can do both, either enter them manually with the punctuation/numbers keyboard, or by using the Emoji Keyboard. I forget at the moment how to add the Emoticon keyboard, but think you can find it if you go to Settings, General, Keyboard, International and add it from there. Once added, when the virtual keyboard is showing there will be an Emoji keyboard button to the right of the letters/numbers keyboard button. Hello Chuck and and Sieghard, Thanks for the explanation on where to the Emoticon keyboard. I was close, but no cigar. I couldn't remember the name of the keyboard to add. Re: Emoticons For Text Messages
Hi Chris, On my 4s there is one more step I had to take to find the emoji keyboard. Go to settings, general, keyboard. Tap it and it should then tell you how many keyboards you have available beside the word keyboard. Tap the keyboard button again and you will find yourself on a screen listing your keyboards. I have only English and underneath the button that says English is an add new keyboard button with an elipsis. Tap it and you will be placed in the list of available keyboards. There are a lot of them so you will need to scroll down to emoji and tap it. I hope this helps. Kimber On 8/25/13, Chris Judd chrischas0...@charter.net wrote: Is this in the IPhone 5? Re: Emoticons - Was Re: using imontagons.
I use emoticons all the time. Bud, I have set up keyboard shortcuts, so I can quickly insert them. When you are in the keyboard shortcut phrase edit field, open the Emoji keyboard and select the image you want, now go to the shortcut field and insert a two letter shortcut that you will remember. I usually use two letters the same such as a upper case s and a lower case s to represent the smiley I use. Then all I have to do is type those two letters and hit the space bar... So, if you want to write the smilies or emoticons, there are several ways you can do this. Depending on who you ask, you will get different answers. I usually stick to the more traditional ones like smiles, frowns, and angry faces. However other people want Christmas trees, Checkered flags, ETC. If you want t list of what all is available in your iPhone, go to Settings General Keyboards and add the emoji keyboard. Now, the switch keyboards button will appear to the left of the space bar. When this keyboard is up, you have various categories from which you can pick. People, places, things, ETC. Once you pick a category, the keyboard will populate with the various ones from that list. You can flick left with 3 fingers to see more than what's visible on the first screen. To me this takes too much time and as I said, I prefer the more traditional ones. So, what I do is manually write out the emotiocn I want to use. Like :) or :( or, one of my favorites, :P. It's easy to think of what the emoticon represents if you can think sideways face, and what the symbols look like in print. The :) represents a smiling face because the colon in print is 2 dots, one right above the other, and the right parenthesis is a curved line with the curve out to the right. So, the 2 dots plus the curving line away from them, when turned sideways looks like 2 eyes and a smile. So, if you use :( which is a colon and a left parenthesis, the line is no longer curving away from the eyes, but toward them, like a frown. The :P is the 2 eyes with a rounded thing sticking out. This is because visually the letter P is a line with a circle toward the top and out to the right. So, this is the symbol for a tongue sticking out. Since there are many symbols or combinations of symbols to memorize, no one can know what all is out there. At the end of my post I've provided a link to a chart with many emoticons so you can write them out manually yourself. Oh, also, if you dictate with a 4S or newer, you can say the word smiley, or frowney and the right symbols will be put in for you. If there are others, I don't know of them. Re: Emoticons - Was Re: using imontagons.
Hi Just a FYI for those wanting to use emoticons, the IMG keyboard on the iDevices also has a recently used selection, so a person has quick access to frequently used emoticons. This makes things a lot easier than having to swipe through many pages and different categories to find a fav and frequently used emoticon. I set up my list by composing a message to myself with just the emoticons that I would most likely use. Now when composing a message my emoticons are readily available. Hello Rob. Please be conscious of two things on this list. The first is one liner messages. The second is coming off rude and sending messages which are really not useful or helpful to the list members in general. Your below message is a prime example. Further messages of this type will result in you being placed on moderation again. Thank you. RE: emoticons?
Hi Robb, Give the below instructions a try. Enabling the Emoji Keyboard This brings Emoji character support to everywhere in iOS: .Launch Settings and Double tap on General Double .Tap on Keyboard and then again on Add New Keyboard Flick through the alphabetical list to Emoji and Double tap on it to select it and it will appear in your list of active keyboards .Close out of Settings Once the keyboard has been added, you will find Emoji under your default keyboard configuration. You can now begin to use Emoji icons as a means of having more expressive conversations over instant message, email, Snapchat, and whatever else. How to Type Emoji Characters on the iPhone You must be somewhere that the standard virtual keyboard is visible: .Enter into any text entry location: Messages, Notes, Mail, etc .Double Tap on the Next Keyboard button in the dock to the right of the More Letters/number toggle to access the newly enabled Emoji keyboard You will find there are many different icon character themes available, each found under a broader theme found under the clock icon, face, flower, bell, car, and symbols which represent people nature, objects, places and recent (which shows a keyboard of icons you have typed recently. To return back to the normal keyboard just Double tap on the Next Keyboart button again. Jon -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of RobH!
