Re: mbraille is available
Hi Chris, If you use .sms command, MBraille will look up Gary's phone number from contacts. If you use .mail command, it will look up his email address. So .sms command doesn't care about contacts who have no phone number. Same goes for .mail, it does not care about people who have no email address. Hope this helps, Harri On Wednesday, 26 June 2013 23:14:05 UTC+2, Chris1984 wrote: Hello all I'm confused with the .sms shortcut. I tried it earlier today to send a message to a friend. The message window will open with the messages app and the to field will have Mary's name and the text message will be in tact. All you have to do is double tap the send button. Hi everyone I tried for some time in table mode believing I'd manage it easier this way. Sadly this was not the case. I had much more success with the phone away from me and against my chest. I have to say that in the limited time I have had to work with it, I'm very impressed such that I feel sure I will buy the app soon. I have never tried Braille touch because it only offered grade 1 braille. Contracted braille through this app is a much more attractive proposition. Re: mbraille is available
I have been working with this app most of the day to learn how to do things, and I must say that its features are amazing!! It does a lot more than just post to Twitter, facebook, and send text messages! The command structure built into this app is brilliant, and can enable even more feature intergrations later in the future. But even more amazing than to send tweets, facebook post, text messages, and emails directly from the app, is its editing features! The editing features basically turn it into a small braille note pad. You can browse what you have typed by sentence, word,or character. You can move the cursor to anywhere you want in the document and add words, delete words, or change things however you want. You can even move the cursor to a point in the document and paste something that came from another app, like a link from Safari or an email. Now you can also select by characters, words, or sentences. After you have selected text, you can then copy or cut the text from your document and move it to where ever you want. And even with all of these features and abilities, this does not include the fact that it is capable of contracted grade 2 braille! Now, lets consider the price? Lets all remember that Braille Touch was $20, and even though it is a good app, it comes no where near being filled with all of the features of MBraille! So do I think all of those extra features of MBraille is worth ten more dollars? You bet! I have been waiting for an app like this, and I am just so proud that we finally have it! Ok, I reckon the editing features are going to be the strongest feature. But, and only just got the demo, not the money to upgrade yet. But I typed a lot, had a call on another phone, put iPhone down clumsily to take the call, and when I got back to iPhone and unlocked it, all my text had gone!... must have thought I shook the phone. So, good as that might sound, it strikes me your efforts could be at a singularly frustrating risk. Hi Rob, I just experienced the same thing you did, or I thought I did. But when I double tap the keyboard button and did the command to hear what I wrote, my text was still there. RE: mbraille is available
Hi Jane, I know that a sync feature was discussed when the app was in beta. The developer has more plans for the apps in future updates. I posed a suggestion to the developer about the ability to add media to a text message, but sometimes there are restrictions from Apple that will prevent access with MBraille to various applications. Re: mbraille is available
This app has admirable features and functions. My fingers do not fall naturally into the dot positions in the same way as the braille touch app. The auto layout may be making it unstable even when locked to a particular layout. The other reason could be a slight difference in the space eachcell position takes in the two different apps. So far, I'm not ready to purchase until I get the hang of it. All that said, a lot of folks are going to appreciate this app. On Jun 29, 2013, at 11:00 AM, Chris H christopher...@gmail.com wrote: Ok, I read that shaking the phone is enough to clear the text. Re: mbraille is available
Don't think so, found no reference to it, and the ergonomics of it don't seem to pan out well either. They gave a lotof thought to this, and is why the last two good ones didn't work that way round. The ergonomics of it seem right in so much as your forearms do point in at an angle to form a V, so the key positions are defined where your fingers would naturaly fall on the screen. That is - your third fingers are up near the furthest corners, and first fingers quite near the centre nearest you; so keys are defined as diagonal stripes in the directions your fingers more or less point. This is how it is portrayed in the text I read. Seems straight forward enough to me. I admit, that's never as good as doing it. Oh, you have to put it in table mode before putting it down and using table mode. Away mode is more straight across and wouldn't work well down flat. again, they worked this out quite well. another message asked about the keys being defined like stripes, and this is described in the .txt user guide too; and also the ability to swap the key positions to reverse them so that 1-4 are top or bottom according to preference. But table top mode means the stripes are diagonal instead of straight across, this is how the hands and fingers land on the screen if you just take it natural and do it. As ever, it's a perception and practice thing, I noted that in the manual, and it was spelled out as clear as they could do it. More confuses, less is too vague. There's a command in MBraille to send mail. Do a new line and type the following. .mail put the subject in quotes and then type as an example viphone and do a new line. Just type your message first. Hi all, I think that what part of it might be is that the dots are rectangular and not straight up and down. Do any of you find that. I also think they are backward because that's one and four are at the bottom two and five in the middle like they always work but that's three or at the top and I am used to dots one and for being at the top two and five in the middle and three and six at the bottom so that is where I have a problem, but I do like the app. Thank you again for a great app God bless, wren Sent from my iPhone On Jun 27, 2013, at 7:09 PM, Eileens Misrahi eileen.misr...@gmail.com wrote: UHello Jen and others, When beginning to use this app, I too couldn't get the nack of using the table mode. Re: mbraille is available
First, I will say I hope Braille Touch can get their upgrade to contracted braille done as I don't want to turn around and spend 30 after having gotten Braille Touch. Now to your issue with the dots. With the free version at least, you want to have the home button on your right which means the volume buttons will be pointed to the ceiling. If you have the home button to the right and you have dots 3 and 6 on the top, check the settings and make sure you didn't turn on the layout that flips the dots. To subscribe send a blank message to mbraille-subscr...@lists.mpaja.com After sending you will get a confirmationmessage to reply to and then you are on. If you have any questions that's a great list and the developer is constantly making improvements. Also if there are any questions I'll be happy to answer them as well as any of the other testers. There is a free version which I know allows for tweeting. Enjoy! Re: mbraille is available
Hello all I have it right now and like you say it's awesome and gives the other Braille input apps a run for their money particularly BrailleTouch. $30 may sound steep for some but consider the price for what it does versus $20 for BrailleTouch just to manipulate the text. I am joining the list as I speak. Chris On 26/06/2013 09:39, Rebecca Ilniski wrote: Hi all. MBraille is now available. RE: mbraille is available
On first glance this looks like a great app. I find it really difficult to do the for contraction even with their advice it seems a little hit and miss. I think it's best feature is the ability to send messages and things write from the Braille keyboard by typing in shortcuts. This makes it as if it is integrated into the operating system, well as close as it is possible to do that at any rate. I brought Braille Touch and though I liked it I feel it has been six months now and still no grad 2 braille which we were promised. I know these things take time but a number of Braille input apps in the store are now offering this. Re: mbraille is available
Rebecca, asking to be on the list right now, but when I went to the app store and asked for MBraille it says no app available (well, something like that, LOL) Is it available or just in the production phase? I think it is great there are so many developers working on platforms for typing, braille or print. Use Braille Touch and Fleksy both, and MBraille is just another tool. It is great we have so many choices! To me now Mbraille is out there is no excuse in the delay for Grade 2 support in BrailleTouch. Apparently this app was in development for only a few months and look at where they are already at 1.0. Re: mbraille is available
Hi, I really like the fact that you can choose how you want to hold your phone and the app adjusts. You can either braille with the phone flat on your lap or with the screen away from you as BrailleTouch does. And so far, Grade 2 works very well. Having what you typed copied to the clipboard automatically if you leave the app is a nice touch as well. This appears to be a well thought-out app. Best, Anna On Jun 26, 2013, at 1:31 PM, Chris H christopher...@gmail.com wrote: To me now Mbraille is out there is no excuse in the delay for Grade 2 support in BrailleTouch. Re: mbraille is available
Hello All, for those who may be having difficulty inputting the contracted braille sign for for, its a little tricky until you get the hang of it. Here is what I do: * Place your fingers on the cell for a q. 2. Lift your finger off dot 3 while keeping all the other fingers on the cell. 3. Tap dot 6 and then remove all your fingers at once. This will give you the for sign. 4. Don't add a space if you are going to string another contraction that's can be used together without a space. Add all the contraction you need and then add the space. HTH. Eileen Sent from my iPhone On Jun 26, 2013, at 11:59 AM, Rebecca Ilniski rilni...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Don and all. Re: mbraille is available
Hi, before I spend $30 I have a question? Can I carry on a text conversation with this MBraille? Is it a lot of copy and pasting? Or does it require me to type in who the text is for every time? I am sorry, I am having a difficult time posing an understandable question. What I am trying to ask is there a lot of switching back and forth between MBraille and the text messaging app with pasting in order to carry on a conversation with someone? I also did notice in the app description that it will automatically copy text when switching to another app. That sounds convenient. :) Thanks, Christina -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: mbraille is available
Hi Christina. No you can send sms messages right from the app itself. For example, you type your message and let's say you have a contact named Mary. You would just swipe down for a new line with a one single finger swipe and type the following in MBraille. .sms Mary and then swipe down for new line. The message window will open with the messages app and the to field will have Mary's name and the text message will be in tact. All you have to do is double tap the send button. Hi Chris. First make sure that Gary is in the first name and his last name is in the last name field in your contacts. Then in MBraille type the following: Swipe down for new line. Type a period then sms. Space and let's say you have a Gary Johnson in your contacts. So the command will look like this: period sms Gary@.Johnson In between is dot 4 and then 2-5-6 for the period. Good to hear. That's true integration. Cheers guys! Chris On 26/06/2013 23:26, Eileens Misrahi wrote: Hello Chris, I just put my phone in airplane mode. I reopened MBraille and used the dot command for the help menu, which is .help. It opened just fine and I was able to read through it. Of course, one will be limited to the airplane mode functions when it is turned on. HTH. Granted I need to get the hang of this ap but already it seems to be more user friendly... just in the hand placement than brailletouch. Just my opinion. Apparently this app was in development for only a few months and look at where they are already at 1.0. BrailleTouch however has been developed for years and still no grade 2. Not impressed but that's just me.
