Re: Seeking accessible mindfulness or meditation apps

2018-02-28 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi,
I'm going to make a crazy app recommendation since the app I'm recommending is
not quite accessible yet. Key word is yet.
buddhify: mindful meditation by Mindfulness Everywherebuddhify: mindful
meditation by Mindfulness Everywhere
https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/buddhify-mindful-meditation/id687421118?mt=8

It was featured on radio shows where I heard developer speak and in other "life
hack" type of podcasts. Different from headspace and other of the top
mindfulness apps out there, it is a 1 time buy with no subscription.
So I tried it and totally not accessible. However, I wrote the developer and
response was incredible. I got refund from him and they promised accessibility
updates.
Now they released a major one and it actually mentions vo improvements. Still
one cannot use the actual meditations yet but the reading material about
meditation the why and the how is now usable and very well done.
I have high hopes and wanted to at least give a shout out to a great responsive
mainstream developer that promises to do things for vi users.

Hth

I have the audio files for Zinn and listen in the music app. I also have the
recordings Dr. Bernie Siegel produced for his cancer patients. He wrote the
book Love, Medicine and Miracles that described how people beat cancer through
meditation and positive affirmations. I have ripped Bernie’s CD’s and digitized
cassettes. He played these on headphones after cancer surgery and the patients
had much better outcomes than those who did not hear these affirming
meditations. I listen to them when I am sick. Now, they can be placed on an

Hi Shannon, interesting, we were discussing this topic on the BlindPhones list
not so long ago.
Headspace, which I think is the most popular mindfulness app, has become a lot
more accessible lately. They are making good use of the actions rotor now.
As well as the JKZ apps which Anna has already mentioned and are fabulous, my
favourite mindfulness app is Calm. They have a range of meditations, scenes
which have audible elements, such as a crackling fireplace or ocean sounds.
They have sleep stories and music too. Every day, there's a new 10-minute
meditation called The Daily Calm which I think is very well done.
There's an app called Simple Habit which offers five minute meditations for
busy people.
Another that offers a few good meditations is called Simply Being.
Hope that helps. I do 15 minutes of meditation each end of the day so I find
having a few apps to choose from keeps things fresh.

Hi, all.

I’m wondering if any of you might be able to give me some suggestions of
accessible apps dealing with mindfulness or meditation. I’ve browsed the app
store and there are a ton of them, but I have no idea which ones work with VO.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

RE: Seeking accessible mindfulness or meditation apps

2018-02-02 Thread Richard Petty
I just downloaded series 1 and 2. They are indeed very good--as is his other
material. I had no idea there were apps. These are almost $10 each, which is
similar (or a little less) than what CDs sold for. It's nice to have the
sessions on the iPhone. Be warned: it's hard to stay awake through the full
body scan. Smile.

Insight Timer is quite good and mostly accessible. It offers both guided

Re: Seeking accessible mindfulness or meditation apps

2018-01-31 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi shannon,

Jon Kabat-Zinn has put several of his mindfulness courses into apps. JKZ Series
1 has a body scan, a sitting meditation, and two yoga sessions. He describes
what to do very thoroughly.

Best,
Anna

Seeking accessible mindfulness or meditation apps

2018-01-31 Thread Shannon Dyer
Hi, all.

I’m wondering if any of you might be able to give me some suggestions of
accessible apps dealing with mindfulness or meditation. I’ve browsed the app
store and there are a ton of them, but I have no idea which ones work with VO.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
