It would have been better if they had duplicated the bottom speaker at the
top.It would have had a better stereo field.

Hi Wayne,
Thank you for this. I did cover the bottom left speaker, and I still hear
music from the top speaker, but when I cover the top speaker, I still hear from
it, so I guess that's ok!

There should be 2 speakers on the XR, one at the bottom of the phone
near the charging port, and one at the top of the phone near the
handset/speaker. I know you know that the one where you hold the phone
near your ear, but this also acts as an external speaker. You can test
it by completely covering the bottom speaker when music or other audio
is playing, and see if you still hear the audio. On my XR the bottom
speaker is more powerful, but I still get quite a bit of sound from
the other speaker when I cover the bottom one.

The Mic, is the microphone, which you use for speaking into, when you make a
phone call, or making recordings.

The lightning port, is between the microphone, and the bottom speaker.

you mean a speaker and a mic between the charging port? What is the mic for?
On my xr phone, I don't have anything on the bottom in the front of the

If the 10R is like earlier phones, there's a speaker and a mic on the bottom

stereo sound.

Hi lenron,
I am just wondering if both the reps said what they said about the speakers,
because they probably don't use voice over, but they both claim they listen
to Apple music. I think it just goes to show a lot of those Apple reps
really don't know enough about voice over! I probably should search online
how to clean the front ear speaker, because the rep at the Apple store
didn't do anything to it, and maybe that should be cleaned as well. If the
bottom speaker can get dust in it, I would think the front ear speaker could
also get dust in it! The Apple store rep said it probably got dusty from
putting it in my purse and removing it, and after a year, I guess it can
happen, but if it happened to the bottom speaker, it can happen to the front
speaker!

Re: Speakers On An Xr iPhone Question Please.

2019-11-10 Thread Wayne Merritt
There should be 2 speakers on the XR, one at the bottom of the phone
near the charging port, and one at the top of the phone near the
handset/speaker. I know you know that the one where you hold the phone
near your ear, but this also acts as an external speaker. You can test
it by completely covering the bottom speaker when music or other audio
is playing, and see if you still hear the audio. On my XR the bottom
speaker is more powerful, but I still get quite a bit of sound from
the other speaker when I cover the bottom one.

It may depend, on how you have your audio routed.

Try looking for the speaker button, when you are playing some music, and see
how it sounds.

Hi lenron,
I am just wondering if both the reps said what they said about the speakers,
because they probably don't use voice over, but they both claim they listen
to Apple music.
The Apple store rep said it probably got dusty from
putting it in my purse and removing it, and after a year, I guess it can
happen, but if it happened to the bottom speaker, it can happen to the front
speaker!

too, if they wish to listen to music in stereo, on their phone, without a

Hi Dave,
Oh yeah, I know what you mean about how much the reps know about the
products they sell. Although, I have to admit I am quite surprised
especially both reps had xr phones the same as I do. Matter of fact, the
Apple rep at the store yesterday, didn't even check the ear piece speaker!
I'm just wondering if it is because maybe they aren't using voice over, so
they just really don't know voice over and other come through the front ear
speaker. Well, I finally turned on my phone, and listened to voice over and
some music, and low in behold, I did hear voice over and the music I was
playing coming from the bottom of the phone, as well as from the front ear
speaker on the top of the phone, so now, I know for myself! I can't believe
I never thought of something this simple! LOL! I'm losing it!

Thank you Thank you!

The Mic, is the microphone, which you use for speaking into, when you make a

The lightning port, is between the microphone, and the bottom speaker.

Apple music. I think it just goes to show a lot of those Apple reps really
don't know enough about voice over! I probably should search online how to
clean the front ear speaker, because the rep at the Apple store didn't do
anything to it, and maybe that should be cleaned as well. If the bottom
speaker can get dust in it, I would think the front ear speaker could also get
dust in it! The Apple store rep said it probably got dusty from putting it in
my purse and removing it, and after a year, I guess it can happen, but if it
happened to the bottom speaker, it can happen to the front speaker!

So, i will clear it up again.

At the bottom left of the phone, is the microphone.

The bottom right, is one of the speakers.

If you have the phone in landscape mode. Then the earpiece, becomes the
second of the stereo speakers.

RE: Speakers On An Xr iPhone Question Please.

2019-11-10 Thread janet gross
Hi Dave,
Oh yeah, I know what you mean about how much the reps know about the products
they sell. Although, I have to admit I am quite surprised especially both reps
had xr phones the same as I do. Matter of fact, the Apple rep at the store
yesterday, didn't even check the ear piece speaker! I'm just wondering if it
is because maybe they aren't using voice over, so they just really don't know
voice over and other come through the front ear speaker. Well, I finally
turned on my phone, and listened to voice over and some music, and low in
behold, I did hear voice over and the music I was playing coming from the
bottom of the phone, as well as from the front ear speaker on the top of the
phone, so now, I know for myself! I can't believe I never thought of something
this simple! LOL! I'm losing it!
Thank you Thank you!

RE: Speakers On An Xr iPhone Question Please.

2019-11-10 Thread janet gross
Hi Anna,
Ok when you say a speaker and mic on the bottom and front of the phone, do you
mean a speaker and a mic between the charging port? What is the mic for? On my
xr phone, I don't have anything on the bottom in the front of the phone, only
between the charging port at the edge of the bottom of the phone.

Hi Janet and all,

If the 10R is like earlier phones, there's a speaker and a mic on the bottom in
front. I think it's that speaker and the earpiece speaker that produce stereo
sound.

Best,
Anna

2019-11-10 Thread Dave
Hi Janet. It just shows, how much some of the customer services reps
actually know, regarding the products they sell.

But there is loads of info regarding this, on the net, and youtube.

Dave.

Hi Dave,
The rep at the Apple store and the rep from the accessibility department
told me that speaker on the front of the phone has nothing to do with
hearing voice over or music, just for talking on the phone. I don't know
why, but I never even thought about listening to the front speaker when
playing music, but I will now do it.

No. The earpiece, is also a speaker. The phone is stereo, and you could not
achieve this, with just 1 speaker.

2019-11-10 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Janet and all,

If the 10R is like earlier phones, there's a speaker and a mic on the bottom in
front. I think it's that speaker and the earpiece speaker that produce stereo
sound.

Best,
Anna
