RE: Restoring From ICloud Question

2020-01-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, which carrier you have is strictly a result of the SIM card you put in. Put
in a Verizon and that's what it is, put in a T-Mobil and it's T-Mobil.

If I get a new phone on a different carrier from my current one, and restore
the new phone from the ICloud backup, will the ICloud backup attempt to change
the new phone to the old carrier? I don't think so, but I want to know before I
wish I had. Thanks in advance for any information.

RE: An iCloud question

2019-03-26 Thread Karen Poulakos
Hi Richard,

Thanks for the reply. In the past I have purchased my phones from the Apple
Store in Chicago, and they have been very helpful in transferring everything
for me. The new phone was purchased from the Apple Store online, and I am 3
hours away from Chicago. If they had the SE, I would have made the trip and
purchased it there.

I have never figured out how to use iTunes. But I’ll see if I can get some
help with that from a friend. Or, that might be a good excuse for my son to
come for a visit.

hi Karen,

Open the Files app on your phone; that is a stock app from Apple.

Under locations, select iCloud Drive.

I hope that gets you to the files you want.

But, do you back up your device on a computer using iTunes?

The best way to get everything from your current phone to the new phone is to
do an encrypted backup on a computer through iTunes and then restore that
backup to the new device.

By doing an encrypted backup; you should get all your passwords too.

Sure. Choose to set up the iPad as a new device, then sign into iCloud. Turn on
Contacts and any other services you want, then go download your desired apps.
Use the iCloud Settings panel to control exactly what your iPad shares with the

Re: iCloud question

2012-12-02 Thread Rob Harris
It just failed! Sure the button to beg or buy more are there, but it didn't
say why. Appps like Ubidisk and Phone Drive do have huge files if included
in your backup.  If you switch documents on, then those are amongst them;
otherwise, you don't get to back up your other documents. That leaves a
computer back up, or pair to another device to take them. I'll do that
later. Use them to hold your other documents and you get it all backed up
anyway.

Isn't there a free limit of 2GB or 5GB? What happens if you try backing up

RE: iCloud question

2012-12-02 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Is there a difference between iCloud storage and ICloud backup?

I mean, if I have 20GB of music on my iPhone, transferred from iTunes on my PC,
and I do an ICloud backup, doesn't that mean I need 20+ GB of iCloud storage
space? But I think iCloud only gives 2GB or 5GB of free storage space without a
fee.

Or is iCloud backup considered distinct from iCloud storage, as it's only
useful for restoring a device, and not for accessing specific elements from a
large storage pool of independent elements, so there's no fee for storing a
backup?

Thanks. Still trying to get my brain around all this stuff.

Keith

Re: iCloud question

2012-12-02 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, you get 5 gb included free with iCloud. It will not store music from
what I understand, nor will it store copies of apps. Instead, it stores
data and documents and pictures. For music storing it would mean you use
iTunes match. This is how I understand it and others will no doubt
correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks.

Re: iCloud question

2012-12-01 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

Some apps let you specify what info gets backed up. I know Downcast does this.
You can also go to Settings/iCloud/Storage Backup/Manage Storage and find out
what, precisely, is getting backed up. If you ever had another device attached
to your account, for instance, you might find out here that it's still taking
up space. Or you might find out that some huge file is being backed up that you
don't want to be. IN that case, you could move it out of iCloud if it's on your
computer and you don't need it to be backed up. At one time, for example, a
huge video podcast was taking up more space than I had. I deleted it once I was
done with it, and I had enough space again.

You can also buy more storage if necessary from the Storage backup screen.

HTH,
Anna

Hi all,

An interesting observation about iCloud. I have discovered that there
are certain apps which store their data in iCloud but which you cannot
access from Settings/iCloud/Storage and Backup/Manage
Storage/Documents and Data. Fleksy is one example. The user dictionary
seems to be stored in iCloud but isn't listed anywhere. The native
weather app is another example that I can think of which stores your
favourite cities in iCloud.

This is hardly a big deal but it would be nice to know exactly what
data is stored in iCloud.

Cheers.

Hi Grant,

If you g to steeings, iCloud, storage and backup, mange storage, then select
a device name, you can view which apps are storing data in iCloud. You will
get a shortened list of apps with the option to show all apps. On this
screen, you can enable or disable which apps store data in the cloud. Fleksy

Hi Damashe, yes that is true, but that approach only works for
backups. There's another way iCloud can store app-specific data, and
it isn't in a backup. It's meant so that you can easily have the same
data on more than one device. It is this that I'm trying to find.

Re: iCloud question

2012-10-11 Thread Grant Hardy
The thing is, when a backup is done in iCloud my understanding is
that it's analogous to backing up in iTunes. All data (call records,
texts, favorites, app data, etc) is included in the backup. Unlike in
iTunes however, since you are dealing with very limited storage space
on iCloud the option is given to exclude certain application data from
a backup. Backups are used if for whatever reason you need to restore
your data to a new or wiped device, but they aren't synced to other
devices. Backups are not what I was referring to.

There's a separate feature in iCloud though, called 'Documents and
data'. This provides a way for apps to synchronize their documents and
data with the cloud so you can synchronize them with other devices.
Downcast for example can synchronize your subscriptions, playlists,
etc. between more than one device using the cloud, so you can add a
new subscription on your iPhone, and it'll be pushed to your iPad as
well. I was just interested to see that there's some data synced to (I
assume iCloud) that doesn't show up anywhere in the iCloud settings
and which you can't seem to delete. The Fleksy dictionary is one
example; your list of cities in the stock weather app is another
example. This is far from a big deal but it was a curiosity.

Re: iCloud question

2012-08-15 Thread Damashe Thomas

Hi,

You probably have other apps that are storing data in the cloud. To solve
this issue go to settings,

iCloud, storage * backup, manage storage.
On this screen you should see any devices that are using iCloud. Tap the
device name who's data you want to manage. You can select which app store
data in iCloud by turning each app on or off. If there any apps who's data
you do not wish to be stored in iCloud, turn it off. You will see a message
alerting you that this apps date will be deleted from iCloud.
You can mange the data stored from any devices you have linked to that
iCloud account from one device, provided the after tapping manage storage,
you see the device's nam in the list of devices.
I would suggest that any app that store your necissary data on there own
servers can be turned off from backing up data on iCloud. An example would
be a facebook app, that information related to facebook is on facebook's
servers, therefore, you don't really need an iCloud backup as well. Turn off
any other apps you deem unnecissary for iCloud backups.
