Hi, Tom. I feel the same as you about iTunes. The View menu contains the
commands to turn the side view on and off. The keyboard shortcut toggle to do
this is ctrl + the letter S. If the side bar is not shown, ctrl + s will
display it and if it is shown, ctrl + s will hide it.

I'm running Windows XP and notice sometimes that my iPhone also is not
displayed when I connect it to the computer's USB port. When this happens, I
unplug it and then reconnect it and then it usually displays in the iTunes
 side bar.

 Hi,
I'm going to preface my post by saying that I really hate ITunes with a
purple passion and think that it's a royal pain in the behind. Be that as it
may, I realize that I have to put up with it, so, toward that end, I have
 some questions.

My girlfriend and I both have ITunes version 11.something-or-other on our
computers and we can't seem to get to the sources tree view consistently and
easily. Is there a keyboard command that will consistently make it visible
 and bring focus to it?

Second, on my Windows XP machine, I can see my iPhone 4 listed in the sources
tree view when it's connected. On my girlfriend's machine running Windows 7,
however, even though her iPhone 4 is connected and it syncs, the phone is not
visible in the sources tree view. Why is that and how can we fix the
problem. Both of our iPhone 4's are running IOS 6.1.2.
There are other issues regarding her ITunes library, but I won't get into
 those right now.

 Thanks in advance.

Actually, I did the upgrade and since I enabled the side bar it works mostly
like the old version for my purposes, and about 80% of what I use it for is
backup or purchases. It is a lot easier for me to find an app and read
about it on the computer.

Using Jaws 14, Windows 7, and IE 9.

I have the podcasts on my phone in Downcast and listened to part of one
before being interrupted, need to get back and finished them off someday.

It is easiest to use F6 to find the sidebar, once youa re on it, Jaws will

I actually prefer now not to show the sidebar. If I want to change from the
music library to the books library or the apps library I either use the
shortcuts, Control+1 for music, Control+2 for movies, Control+3 for TV
Shows, Control+6 for Books and Control+7 for Apps.

Control+4 and Control+5 don't do anything in my setup and if you, for
example, uncheck Movies in the Preferences, Control+2 will not do anything.

Another way to navigate to those areas is to use Control+Shift+F to jump
into the Search Library edit field, then tab twice and you are on Music if
your music library is what has focus. Press enter or space and a treeview
opens where you can now arrow down to movies, Books, Apps etc.

I never thought of iTunes as all that bad and I like iTunes 11 even better
since it seems to be somewhat faster and more efficient. However, I believe
Jaws 14 definitely will give you the best performance and, if you haven't
done so already, I highly recommend you listen to the December and January
FS Casts Jonathan did. His 2-part series on iTunes 11 with Jaws 14
definitely helps in understanding iTunes and how to make the best of it. You
can find the podcasts on the Freedom Scientific website under FS Casts.

As for your girl-friends iPhone not showing up, I can't explain it, if I
enable the sidebar and connect my iPhone it shows up under Devices as it
always has. If I hide the sidebar which, as I said before, I prefer, I find
the iPhone button as follows:

I press Control+Shift+F to go to the Search Library edit field.

I press F6 once to jump to the first drop-down list of the column browser
which is Genre. Of course that assumes you have the column browser enabled.

I then Shift+Tab twice and I'm on the iPhone button, enter or space will
activate it.

I then have all the usual buttons like Summary, Info, Apps, Tones etc. which
I can check to manage the various sync aspects of iTunes with my iPhone.

The column browser, by the way, can only be enabled if you check the Songs
button, it is greyed out if artists, albums or genres are selected.

Hope this helps,

Sieghard

RE: ITunes Questions

2013-03-08 Thread Marco Migotti
My only reason for running itunes is for backup purposes since I mostly use
my tablet to do most of my computing. I'd upgrade if I were getting some
bran new features, but from what I can see from a distance, I don't need to
upgrade and my iPad works great on itunes 10 and it is so easy to transfer
music and other stuff back and forth. Oh someday I will upgrade but for now
I am happy.

I am wondering, if I am not making myself clear. If this question is not

I thought maybe her question wasn't clear enough.

I tried to ask with more details in my below message.

Hi Tom,

Control+S is the command to Show Sidebar, you can also go to the View menu
with Alt+V and arrow down to where it says Show Sidebar, then press enter.
If you go to the View menu and it says Hide Sidebar then you already have
the sidebar visible and if you do a Control+S it will hide it, the shortcut
key is a toggle.

It is easiest to use F6 to find the sidebar, once youa re on it, Jaws will
say Sources Tree View.

Sieghard

Hi, Tom. I feel the same as you about iTunes. The View menu contains the
commands to turn the side view on and off. The keyboard shortcut toggle to
do this is ctrl + the letter S. If the side bar is not shown, ctrl + s will
display it and if it is shown, ctrl + s will hide it.

I'm running Windows XP and notice sometimes that my iPhone also is not
displayed when I connect it to the computer's USB port. When this happens, I
unplug it and then reconnect it and then it usually displays in the iTunes
side bar.

Re: ITunes Questions

2013-03-08 Thread David Chittenden
No, that is too simple. For the iPhone, only one iTunes can manage its music.
Each iTunes will erase what was installed by the other iTunes.

As for both iTunes accessing the same music, I did it using an external drive.
I pointed iTunes toward the music in preferences. The external drive needs to
be formatted FAT32 for both windows and mac to work properly with it. I have
heard there is a way using another program to get mac iTunes to work with NTFS,
but it adds more complexity.

Hi marco,

Everything is in fact just as easy to find in iTunes 11, but it's different
and involves a bit of a learning curve. The old and familiar is always what
some people prefer even if the new is better and there is no doubt that
iTunes 11 is faster and now that I have gotten used to it and figured out
all the shortcuts, I actually like how Apple has redesigned it.

I should, however, say that in the very latest iTunes 11 update a few bugs
have crept in, one of them being the one about not being able to sync
selected audio books. I mostly listen to my Audio Books with Audible, but
for some this could be a big issue and hopefully it is something either
Apple or Freedom Scientific will fix. It would be interesting to see if
somebody who uses Window Eyes experiences the same problem and I will maybe
try it tonight with System Access to Go.

Regards,

Sieghard

I actually prefer now not to show the sidebar. If I want to change from the

Sieghard

Second, on my Windows XP machine, I can see my iPhone 4 listed in the
sources tree view when it's connected. On my girlfriend's machine running
Windows 7, however, even though her iPhone 4 is connected and it syncs, the
phone is not visible in the sources tree view. Why is that and how can we
fix the problem. Both of our iPhone 4's are running IOS 6.1.2

It's just as easy with iTunes 11 once you enable the sidebar and you set
the radio button to either songs or artists. Just my £0.02 worth.

I just hate how apple doesn't allow for the rolling back of an update if one
discovers that the new update is not working for them. This is one of my
reasons for holding off on itunes 11. Having used itunes 10.6 on a xp machine
i can honestly say that the itunes 10 running on a 64 bit windows 7 computer is
super fast and i don't think that the new itunes will be any faster and
besides, how much easier then having itunes launching in about 10 seconds and
it opening up right in the list view. It sounds like itunes 11 has a lot more
keystrokes to do before one can get to doing work.

RE: ITunes Questions

2013-03-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Marco,

What does rolling back updates have to do with iTunes 11? You can reinstall
a previous version of any app as long as you make a copy of said app and
that is the same in iTunes 10 or iTunes 11. If I am uncertain whether an
update like, for example, Skype this morning, works well, I just go to my
Mobile Apps folder in iTunes Media, I go to the app in question, press
Control+C and Control+V which creates a second copy of the app. Then I
update the app and, if for some reason I want to go back, I just delete the
non-copy of the app from both my iPhone and my iTunes library, then I rename
the copy of the app to what the regular version is and sync my iPhone. This
will put the old version back.

As far as loading times are concerned, on my Windows 7 64 Bit laptop with an
I5 processor and 6 Gb of RAM iTunes 11 launches from nothing in 3 to 4
seconds which is a lot faster than how long iTunes 10 used to take. Once you
get used to iTunes 11 there isn't much you can't do just as efficiently.

Regards,

Sieghard

Both of our iPhone 4's are running IOS 6.1.2.
There are other issues regarding her ITunes library, but I won't get into those

RE: ITunes Questions

2013-03-06 Thread Jon Pierson
Hi Tom,
Try using F6 to navigate quickly between the source list and other parts of
the program (which is as annoying as you say).
You should be able to hit D for device in the Source List and then expand
that with the right arro which will bring up the name of the device.
From there you can use the context key to Sync, Transfer Purchases from the
device to your PC, Backup, Restore etc.

Hi,
I'm going to preface my post by saying that I really hate ITunes with a
purple passion and think that it's a royal pain in the behind. Be that as it

some questions.

My girlfriend and I both have ITunes version 11.something-or-other on our
computers and we can't seem to get to the sources tree view consistently and
easily. Is there a keyboard command that will consistently make it visible
and bring focus to it?

Second, on my Windows XP machine, I can see my iPhone 4 listed in the

Windows 7, however, even though her iPhone 4 is connected and it syncs, the

RE: ITunes Questions

2013-03-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Sieghard

Hi, if you are trying to have 2 computers so you can sync your phone from
either one, I don't think it will be possible. Apple allows you to
register, I think, up to 5 devices. So when you install iTunes and
activate the second computer, it will be seen as another library. The
iPhone can only be synced with 1 library. Now, on the other hand, if you
just want iTunes on the second computer for listening to music directly

1) I've installed ITunes on a second computer and want to import all
contents of my current ITunes so as to be able to swap freely between
computers. I seem to remember you can copy all the contents of the
ITunes folder structure and replace on the second computer; but does
this really work so simply or do I need to be careful which files I take
across?

2) My ITunes seems to be behaving rather erratically about ejecting my
iPod and/or phone after use. (I do ensure that sync is complete before I
attempt to eject.) Would it help to rename them in a certain way, or is
there anything else I can do?? At present one is named as iPod and the
other as Phone.

3) What's the easiest way to work on a group of songs and select them
when they're not necessarily next to each other?

Finally, here's a suggestion or two:

I know some really hate ITunes and, at the very least, others of us
struggle to get to grips with it. Jonathan's podcasts of course were
excellent but I personally would like perhaps shorter tuition type
podcasts, dealing only with a task or two in each session, with
repetition if needed and a second/third walk through of that task so
that you can practice along as you listen. If anyone feels able to do
more podcasts on ITunes for those of us who find it more difficult to
work with the programme, I for one would very much appreciate this.

Finally, I am working hard to try to learn more in this area and, for
example, have been getting to grips with the various shortcut keys
available which certainly do speed things up. I would recommend that any
beginner tries to look at the Help for this programme. (Why didn't I
really stick at it at the beginning,I ask myself!)

excellent but I personally would like perhaps shorter tuition type
podcasts, dealing only with a task or two in each session, with
repetition if needed and a second/third walk through of that task so
that you can practice along as you listen.

I would recommend that
any
beginner tries to look at the Help for this programme. (Why didn't I
really stick at it at the beginning,I ask myself!)

Re: ITUNES QUESTIONS

2012-05-03 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, if you are trying to have 2 computers so you can sync your phone
from either one, I don't think it will be possible. Apple allows you to
register, I think, up to 5 devices. So when you install iTunes and
activate the second computer, it will be seen as another library. The
iPhone can only be synced with 1 library. Now, on the other hand, if you
just want iTunes on the second computer for listening to music directly
on that computer, it's possible just as long as you still only sync your
phone to and from the original computer. This is how I understand your
question.

Anyway, a couple of questions for those of you who at least who have got
to grips with it and feel able to give these a shot!

Re: ITUNES QUESTIONS

2012-05-03 Thread matthew Dyer
Carel,

For $29.99 a year you can have itunes match which will store your itunes lybary
in the cloud. This would allow you to see your music on any computer in
itunes as well as on the ios platform. I love it and it works fine here.

Hello,

I did it by, after registering both computers, copying my iTunes library
folders and placing them in both computers. It worked well for the two weeks
that I had two computers.

ITUNES QUESTIONS

2012-05-02 Thread Carol Pearson

Hi all,
