Hello all,
Is anyone using a wireless printer with let’s say an iPhone SE 2020? I am
getting tired of running down to the coffee shop to have things printed. Any
suggestions? One friend says that hers is quite fickle but I don’t actually
know what her whole set up is like. Plus if there’s anything I need to do that
would require site and is not accessible through other means, that would be a
drag, At least once it’s been set up. If I need help with that that shouldn’t
be too too difficult to get.
Thanks.

2020-10-16 Thread Richard Turner
That one is an ink-jet not a Laser-Jet. I strongly recommend against Ink-jet
printers.

The HP store sales phone number is 1-866-625-3906

I hope that helps,

That might be a good move. Thanks for your help and recommendations, both of
you… Refurbished or what they’re calling replenished which may mean something
different the prices range from like $89-$500. I did get the model number wrong
it is HL2360DW not two 300 60DW. Anyway it’s a little overwhelming at this
point. Especially when it comes to prices. Target sells them. And I can buy one
on eBay too! What route to go? Too many choices!

Re: Wireless printers

2020-10-16 Thread deidre muccio
Richard,
I see a 2300 D, not a 2360 DW. Plus it says it’s a duo something which I have
no clue about. There isn’t much info on the description of this thing other
than that I can print on paper envelopes labels and fabric! Nothing about size
etc. I also saw a review that talked about how the printer will just stop
working when I want to buy a new cartridge even if there’s still ink left. But
then I saw some reviews that mentioned how to reset that function. Sorry, I’m
just not savvy about this sort of thing. Not sure what gets plugged into what.
The USB cable is used to charge the printer? And does something get plugged
into my wireless router? That kind of defeats the purpose of its being
wireless, I thought. I must be in the dark about all this.

Oh, I remember this now. I must’ve made this inquiry a year or so ago. And I
looked at the specs. Not sure why I decided against it then. Possibly size? I
don’t have a lot of room to set anything extra up but I’m gonna have to
reconsider that. OK I’m gonna jump on Amazon now see what I can fine.

OK, The Brother HL-2360 DW is a straight lazer-jet, black and white, and yes,
you will need sighted assistance to set it up, but after that it should just
work.
You select WiFi on the printer control panel, then there is something that
blinks on the and you have to press the WiFi button on the Router. Wait a few
minutes, and it prints a test page showing Connection OK.
Then, you press the OK button on the Printer control panel and you are good to
go.
When you select print from the share or more actions on your iPhone, you will
need to wait until it finds your printer, which usually takes very little time.
When you select the printer, you will then have some options.
It will default to double sided printing, but if you want single sided, double
tap where it says double sided and select single sided.
It will also show you how many pages in case you maybe only want to print 1,
you can deselect the other pages.
Then, back at the top left is the print button. Double tpa and you are
printing.

The all-in -one model is not necessary unless you have sighted help for doing
faxing, scanning, etc.
Since models change, and we bought the HL-2360 DW a few years ago, you may find
another model with a similar feature set.
We prefer lazer-jets because you do not have the issue of ink drying out from
non-use, and changing a toner cartridge is much easier than dealing with the
ink cartridges.
You will need help setting the printer up the first time, with the printer drum
and toner cartridge, but once that is done, you will be able to change
cartridges as needed on your own.
You also get many more pages per dollar with a laser-jet than with an ink jet.

If you want to know, the all-in-one model is MFC L2710DW. But, I don't
recommend it for someone without sighted assistance.

I really like our Brother lazer-jets.
The newest one is an all in one that works great with all of our Apple devices,
th1st gen SE, the 2nd Gen SE, iPad Mini 5, plus our Windows computers.
Our older Brother Printer is a little more finicky but I think that is our
setup issue, not really the printers.

I'm going to get my sighted wife to set the older one up again and if it fixes
the issue, I will let you know.
I will also give you some model numbers.

Hello all,
Is anyone using a wireless printer with let’s say an iPhone SE 2020? I am
getting tired of running down to the coffee shop to have things printed. Any
suggestions? One friend says that hers is quite fickle but I don’t actually
know what her whole set up is like. Plus if there’s anything I need to do that
would require site and is not accessible through other means, that would be a
drag, At least once it’s been set up. If I need help with that that shouldn’t
be too too difficult to get.
Thanks.

This may be something that Aira or Be My Eyes could help with.
Which model do you have?
I'll ask my wife to look it up.
If you know the steps involved, I'm sure it wouldn't take more than a few
minutes for an Aira or Be My Eyes agent to walk you through it.

But, it was about $180.
There are other Brother laser-jets that work fine with VoiceOver.
Just make sure it says it supports AirPrint.

Indeed, for the cost per page, the Brother has been exceptionally cheap, as we
often use aftermarket clones of the proprietary toner, and each toner cartridge
lasts us more than a year (with our inkjet printers, if we don't print

Accessibility is all over the map, and I'm not in a good position to evaluate
the various models. The relatively low cost MFC models (typically less than
$140) would appear to be a bit challenging on the accessibility front. But once
set up, probably pretty usable for most operations.

Scans are as good as originals for most purposes (but I have no idea how one
would be able to judge in an accessible fashion!). you hadn't mentioned a
particular weight goal, since you had spoken of printing and scanning, I
suggested their MFC (multi-function copier) series.

As for snapshots, while some of the apps do a fairly acceptable job, it's
fundamentally harder/less accurate to have to shoot at an angle and correct vs.
the scanner having a truly flat scan surface. So if you are trying to eliminate
paper, I'd go with a scanner.

if lightweight is critical, something like the Epson WorkForce ES-50 Portable
Scanner may do the trick.

If you have a lot of paper to convert, Epson and Fujitsu make duplex scanners
(that is, both sides of the page in one go). The Fujitsu ScanSnaps are highly
rated, but run about $400-500 (new). For full sized paper, these are easier to
use than flatbeds. However, if you are doing small paper (e.g. receipts) the
flatbeds may be easier. But before destroying the originals, someone should
verify that the scan is clear and readable ... and I have no idea how one would
do that in a properly accessible manner.

Book pages are probably most easily captured with a manual scanning device
(some are pretty inexpensive) but its pretty hard to ensure good results. I've
got a small vuepoint https://www.vupointsolutions.com/magic-wand which *can*
produce a good scan, but it takes good hand/eye coordination (and sometimes a
couple of tries) so I'd rate it as probably a bad bet w.r.t. accessibility.

Meanwhile an architect friend says get rid of all paper. digitize everything.
Are scans really that good or at least snapshots of anything you scan don't
lie, do they? It's only if you need accurate optical recognition where it gets
tricky.

Snaps usually can be spotted vs. a scanned image. If the goal is to have it
look as much like the original as possible ... I'd avoid snaps.

So, do you want/need a combined unit (printing/scanning)? Do you need color
(print? scan??). Can you get by with only the normal operations being
accessible? (having an assistant for the less common operations?). Do you have
a ton of existing paper to convert, or just a document or two infrequently? If
it's pretty infrequent, using a local Kinkos might not be a bad solution.

We've got more than 12 years from an older brother (5250DN) and the toner

Subject: Accessible apps for wireless printers

Hey everyone, I had a question and hope somebody would be able to give some
suggestions here. I am currently looking for a wireless printer and wondered if
anyone knew which had accessible apps that could be used with them. I was told
that a lot of the Wi-Fi printers are touchscreen and they themselves are not
very accessible but that if they have an app to go with it we could still use
it. If anyone could give me any information or share what they know I’d
appreciate it. Thank you so much in advance.

RE: 3d printers and accessibillidey with jaws or a ios app

2017-11-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Low enough in price for home use depends all on your interpretation of “low
enough”. There are definitely some out there for under $1,000, but you get what
you pay for. Our public library here had one donated to them and a couple of
years ago they invited me to come there with my guide dog so the little kids in
their reading program could read to my dog. The idea is that kids may fi nd
there is less pressure when reading to a dog then to an adult. It was great fun
and of course the kids had a blast, my dog, Radar, was just new then and I had
only had him for less than 2 months and at only 19 months old he was a fairly
young graduate. He was still very playful and had a lot of puppy in him and the
family who raised him had two little boys so he loves kids.
Anyhow, as a thank-you, the lady had made me two little plastic models of labs,
one sitting and one lying down. They are maybe 2 inches and quite nice, but she
said on the little printer they had she started the print job in the evening
and let it print over night because it took many hours for the printer to print
one of these things.
I think if you want anything half way serious you still have to pay maybe
$1,500 or $2,000.
There are lots of plans out there of things you can print, but I think
designing something yourself would not be possible for a blind person.

Sieghard

RE: Wireless printers and printing from iOS

2016-05-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Wayne,

If the printer says it supports Airprint then nothing else in terms of an app
is required, you can simply select to print something and the printer will be
recognized by the iPhone and you can print to it.
I think most wireless HP printers and many other brands do support Airprint
nowadays.
As for finding just a printer and one with buttons instead of a touchpad that
is a different issue, there aren't too many and even if they have buttons there
typically is a display and you have to sort of see what you are doing.
The good thing is that once the printer is set up you probably rarely have to
change anything.

Subject: Wireless printers and printing from iOS

Greetings. I am starting to look into getting a wireless printer which
can print from either my iOS devices or a Mac. I don't do much
printing, so don't really need anything super fancy, or one of those
all in 1 scanner/copier/printers. I just want a wireless printer that
I can use to print from my Mac and iOS devices. It would be good if
the price were reasonable too, like around 50 or $75. I haven't bought
a printer in so long, but after looking on Amazon, there were several
within that price range. Finally, a printer which has buttons I can
feel would be awesome too. I am totally blind and don't want to have
to rely upon my sighted wife to change a setting.

On the issue of printing, I've heard of AirPrint. Is that a utility or
separate app that I would need to get for my iOS devices? How would
printing from an iPhone work exactly? The last time I dealt with
printers was at least 10 to 14 years ago, back when we attached cables
from the computer to the printer. Anyone remember those days? Grin.

Thanks,
Wayne

RE: Printers

2015-06-26 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Ann,

What a kind gesture.

I can only give you a general answer as how each of them connects to the
Internet from home will factor a great deal upon what options are available.

Again generally speaking, if they use a WiFi home network, then purchase a
printer that has an Ethernet connection port on it and you should be good to
go.

Both iOS and Android phones are very compatible with Samsung and HP printers.
However, personally, I prefer Samsung printers as the hardware quality, in my
opinion, is much better.

I suggest that you get a laser printer as opposed to an inkjet printer. While
the initial cost of an inkjet printer is far less than a laser, by about $100
or so, the laser is much more cost efficient in the proverbial long run.

Again, generally speaking, in the USA, at least, you can expect to pay between
$150 and $200 for a nice Ethernet enabled color laser printer.

One more thing, some printers offer wireless printing, While such a setup is
very convenient, my experience has been that one must take more care to both
configure and maintain such a configuration.

Good luck and I am certain that whatever printer you purchase will make them
very happy.

Mark

printers and the iPhone

2014-11-17 Thread Casey

Hi okay I know that we were talking about printers and brands of printers.
To purchase to be able to print from your iPhone and the printer that
also is accessible.

So okay now someone hear said that they would recommended brother printers.
Because there all in one printers will let you scan and copy and all of
the from your computer keyboard.

I would like A printer that would let you do all of that from your keyboard.
That would be A big help if it did double sided printing also.
So does anyone have A brother printer they would recommended and can you
still get whatever one is recommended today?

I apologize for this omission but the app I put on my iPhone 5 in order to
print via Google cloud print is named gCloud Print. It has recently been
updated for iOS 8 and you can find it in the Apps Store when searching it just

Thanks Eileen for mentioning Printer Pro.
I have not tried it yet, but I plan to.
Rose, this may be a solution for you. It works with PC or Mac. There is a
free utility you install on your PC, then you can print from your iPhone to
any printer connected by USB or wifi to your computer.
 The full app costs $6.99.
They have a free light version to try to make sure it will work with your PC.
I'm having no luck with the App store to actually download anything right

I'd take the time to read all about it as well as checking out their web

Another Printing Option was RE: Printer IPhone App To Use With wireless or USB Printers

2014-11-11 Thread Alan Lemly
I thought I'd mention another printing option that works with both Mac and
Windows computers and doesn't require any special printer. This option is more
involved than what has already been mentioned but perhaps it might be useful to
someone.

This option uses Google Cloud Print and requires the Chrome browser be
installed on your computer and the PrintCentral Pro app ($4.99) be installed on
your iDevice. If interested, the below How-To-Geek article explains the steps
required:

http://www.howtogeek.com/165160/how-and-why-to-get-started-with-google-cloud-print/

Here's the iTunes Store link to the PrintCentral Pro app:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/printcentral-pro/id426362921?mt=8

I was able to successfully set this up a few months back and print from my
iPhone 5 to my Brother USB laser printer which is neither wireless nor an
Airprint printer. I don't print much hard copy anymore and prefer to print to
pdf files so I'm no longer using this option. It does seem more involved than
other solutions mentioned but since choice is always a good thing, I thought
I'd mention this one.

error message in printers and scanners preference panes

2014-03-12 Thread Marcy Weinberg
Hello, everyone,

When in printers and scanners in system preferences, there are two printers in
the table. When I down arrow to the Samsung printer, an error message
immediately appears. It reads that there is an error in printers and scanners
preference panes, with an OK button. There is o indication of what the error
is, nor can I delete the printer and try to add it again, since the error
message prevents me from doing so.

I am hoping that someone here has the solution to this very frustrating issue.
I just want to connect the Samsung printer wirelessly once again to our
network. Not that I wish anyone here the same problem, but in case any of you
has had the same experience and found a solution, I would be greatly
appreciative if you would share.

I have been on the phone with Samsung for a total of over 3 hours between
yesterday and today for this obviously difficult issue. They are escalating the
case and will get back to me later today, but in the meantime I'm hoping that
with your help I can tell them the solution :)

Thanks all!

Marcy

Re: error message in printers and scanners preference panes

2014-03-12 Thread chris
I just went into Printers and Scanners. While I could see my printer that is
currently offline no error message appeared and I could delete the printer
without fuss. I now have no printers. Sorry I couldn't be of much help. Tried
to see if I could duplicate your issue.

Printers with buttons

2013-04-29 Thread Lynn Coats
Hi,
In my ongoing search to find a printer, I am finding that most printers have
touchscreens instead of buttons on them these days. Does anybody have a printer
that they use with your iPhone that has buttons? I know that the printer must
have air print on it, besides being wireless. But those darn touchscreens are
going to drive me crazy. I wish Apple would come out with a printer with
voiceover on it.

Re: Printers with buttons

2013-04-29 Thread erik burggraaf
Actually, The touch screen thing, it's sort'a a non issue. So is the airprint
thing. You still have to be a careful consumer and make sure that the admin
panel is accessible and there's a supported printing solution for your IPhone.
Most wireless printers these days have such offerings.

Buy something that looks cute on your desk, matches your office space, has the
printing/scanning options you want. In that order of course, laughs.

I agree that the screen is not that important unless you are using the
features it provides. If you don't want an all-in-one I like the HP
8100.

RE: Wireless printers

2013-02-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Anthony,

I have 2 HP airprint enabled printers, but while they are only a couple of
years old the models are different now and in fact change a lot. I suggest
you either do a search on google or Amazon.com for airprint enabled
printers. If you do this on google you will find links to manufacturer
websites which include lists of printers they offer which support airprint
and by now there are tons. If you search Amazon.com you will also see prices
and ratings and reviews which I find very handy.
I personally like HP printers a lot and it depends on how much you want to
spend, but I think most printers in the price range where most people buy
printers nowadays ($50 to $300) are probably very similar. If you pick one
that is in your price range and is from a popular brand like HP, Canon,
Epson etc. and if it has good reviews I doubt you go wrong either way.

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: Wireless printers

2013-02-23 Thread sahil cena
i think hp 4625 printer is better. it is all in one colour ink jet
printer. its cost is near about rs 9,000. but if you want black and
white laser printer then hp mf1213 may be better.
