Can anyone recommend a good memory and disk cleaner app for IPad??

2015-05-16 Thread Eleanor Roberts
Hi all

Was just wondering if anyone could recommend a good memory and disk cleaning
app for my IPad? I have apps for my IPhone, but the same ones don't seem to be
available for the IPad. The app I use on my phone, Battery Doctor, says for
IPhone only. So any suggestions much appreciated.

Many thanks.

2015-05-16 Thread christopher hallsworth
In case you didn't know, you can run iPhone apps on your iPad. In the App
Store, double tap iPad apps button. In the popup, double tap iPhone apps
button. iPhone apps on iPad generally run well, however they do not take up all
of the screen by default. There is a button to switch to full screen to get
around this.

I decided to start a new thread to answer Carol's question.

I like the somewhat smaller size of the 6; and, besides, rushing to get
something on launch day, my 6 plus is only a 16GB, while my 6 is a 64GB.
And, not that I really need it to be since I'm intending on staying with
AT&T, but my 6 is also an unlocked phone. My 6 plus is on the Next plan
with AT&T, meaning their kind of installment plan, as that is all I could
get on launch day, unless I wanted to sign a two year contract. Now, as I
understand it, I actually own this 6 plus; and, while my relative can't
get it unlocked until it is paid off, I have the option of paying off now,
or letting my family member have the phone while I just keep making the
 payments.

Back to my reasons for getting the 6, I wanted the larger capacity, just
in case I ever needed it, and I wanted to compare the 6 and 6 plus. Thus,
for me, the battery life on the 6 wasn't all that much less to make me
still want the plus. Also, when using the KNFB Reader, I, personally, got
just as good results with the 6 as with the plus. Then, too, when using
MBRAILLE, my hands just seemed to fit better, making me type more
 accurately, on the 6.

Re: Another question about voice dream writer

2015-05-16 Thread Richard Turner
>From Writer Help:

When you run the app for the first time, you'll have the option to enable
iCloud. This is an all or nothing decision: either all your documents are
stored in iCloud or none. If you decide to use iCloud, your documents will be
synchronized across all your devices that have iCloud enabled. If not, all your
files will be locally stored on a single device only. A word of warning: iCloud
has improved a lot since it was launched but it still has hiccups. This is
especially true if your Internet connections are slow and sporadic. We suggest
that if you have multiple Apple devices, you should enable iCloud, because its
benefits outweigh its problems. Particularly if you run Yosemite on a Mac,
which can see all the files in Voice Dream Writer. But be patient when issues
arise.
When you create a document, it will be saved locally in the Voice Dream Writer
folder. And if you enabled iCloud, it'll synched to iCloud in addition to
saving locally so that if you don't have internet connection, you can still
work locally. Don't worry about saving. Your edits are saved automatically.

As Christopher said, you are prompted for a file name when you first create a
document.
If you don't name it, you probably won't find it.

If you enabled iCloud,, and something went wrong with it, you may have lost the
file.
If you only have one device, then try Christopher's suggestion to go to iCloud
settings and turn off VoiceDream Writer.
HTH,
Richard

Re: iPhone 6 or 6 plus

2015-05-16 Thread Christopher Chaltain
As others have said, it is. I'm sorry, but I was wrong about that. It
was just an unfortunate short hand I used when I meant it was an add-on
to the camera itself. As Jonathan pointed out, KNFB Reader does now take
advantage of the optical stabilization in the iPhone 6+, so I was wrong
about that as well. I appreciate the corrections, and I apologize for
the inconvenience I caused with my poor choice of words and dated
information.

Re: Page Change Gesture Not Working

2015-05-16 Thread Bill Gallik

There are a number of settings that are changed by a factory reset:

- VO toggle via 3-click home key is disabled
- portrait orientation lock is disabled
- typing mode is reset to standard
- motion settings are reset to undesired defaults
- mail options are set to undesired defaults

It isn't a big deal if you're aware of all the changes, but so often
something gets overlooked and it is a pain in the ass to have to go back
into settings to have the phone set up as one desires.

What havoc does a factory reset do to the accessibility settings? Won't
the triple click of the home button still start up VoiceOver like it
does on a new phone?

Re: Page Change Gesture Not Working

2015-05-16 Thread Bill Gallik
Yeah, when this problem isn't in force. The 3-finger swipes were not
functioning neither!

Seems like a "red herring" to me, but my friend had also loaded an app named
"Recognizer" and she believes that was responsible for the problems.

BTW: She wasn't able to delete e-mail when this problem manifested neither.
That was the final straw so she opted to do the factory reset.

The easiest way to do this is to use a three finger swipe left or right.
This will work with VoiceOver anywhere on the screen excepting the Dock.

On May 15, 2015, at 7:42 PM, Bill Gallik wrote:

A friend has an iPhone 6 and as of this late afternoon she isn't able to use
the single finger swipe up and single finger swipe down to move from page to
page. She has five pages configured and if she is on any of the lower
numbered pages she can use the double tap to move to the next higher page
number -- i.e., if she's on Page 2 and does the double tap she can move to
Page 3, then Page 4 and ultimately Page 5. But she can only go back to Page
1 and that if she uses the Home Button.

She installed and launched a couple of apps this afternoon (Text Grabber and
Digit Eyes), but I believe this fact is simply a "red herring." I think
this because I also installed and launched these two apps and am not
experiencing the same problem -- I'm able to use the single finger swipe
up/down to move between contiguous pages.

Has anybody experienced this problem?

Can anyone offer a solution?

Can anybody suggest a cause for this behavior?

I am thoroughly stumped!

Re: 6 Plus reception?

2015-05-16 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Tom, the 6 Plus supports all the same frequencies as the 5s, and then a lot
more. So something's not right somewhere. Perhaps it's a temporary cell site
outage, or yes it could be faulty hardware. It would be worth your friend
raising the issue I think.

Re: 6 Plus reception?

2015-05-16 Thread Chris Smart
Speaking of horrible cell spots, have any of you tried these cell
boosters which basically pick up a better signal, usually outside the
building, and rebroadcast it inside?

I really need to fix my 1 or 0 bar signal situation here at the
house. I'm in a modern subdivision at almost the highest elevation in
town as well.

Anyway, these things are hundreds of dollars, so I'm nervous about
spending that much, mounting an antenna, running cable etc. and
perhaps not seeing much improvement.

What are the "undesired" defaults in mail?

Re: changing subscriber e-mail on this list

2015-05-16 Thread RobH.
Ok, found what we need lower down the post in the admin footer as they call
it.

First, send a message from your other account to the followng address:-
viphone+subscr...@googlegroups.com
Then wait for the confirmation, reply to it, then wait for confirmation you
are a member on your other address.

Then, send a message from your current address you are using now to read
this, and send a message to the following address:-
viphone+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com.

Can't remember if you have to confirm that too, but this works by email
without messing about logging into a web page to do all this.

Anyone know how to use the game app Glow?

2015-05-16 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I was looking for a memory game on Applevis, and there were several mentions of
the game app Glow as a fun and VO accessible app.

I downloaded it but can't figure it out. I get all sorts of button
announcements on the Play page. I know the aim of the game is to match a tone
by tapping the correct button, but so far the layout of the playing space and
the tones associated with various buttons isn't clear.

If anyone has had success with this game app, can you please offer some
insights?

AppStore link here:

Thanks, Keith

Re: Another question about voice dream writer

2015-05-16 Thread Lori Dent

Hi Chris,

What I ended up doing was deleteing the voice dream writer app and
reinstalling it. Then I opened the app for the first time and I selected to
create a name for the document . Then after I was done writing in the
document I double tapped on the file manager and it's there . So
everything is fine now.

By the way now that I'm learning to use this app I'm loving it a lot. Thanks
for your help.

Re: Dropbox on voice dream reader

2015-05-16 Thread Alan Lemly
Michelle,

I'll tell you the way I use Dropbox with voice dream which might not be how
others do it.

Since Dropbox is a cloud based storage service, you first must decide how you
will get the files to its servers. I downloaded its desktop program to my
windows desktop and a Dropbox folder was set up on my local drive. I can create
subfolders below it using windows explorer and any files I copy into these
folders with my desktop computer are automatically uploaded to the Dropbox
servers.

With voice dream open on your iDevice, execute the add button which is the
first one on the bottomline menu. This will open a screen with several options
from which to add content to voice dream reader and one of the first of these
is Dropbox. Execute it and you'll be able to select the applicable folder
containing the content you want to add to voice dream from Dropbox. I typically
load mp3 books this way but make sure they are zipped into one file before
doing so. After you select the file you want from your Dropbox folder, voice
dream will download it to your device where you can play it.

Good luck.

Not really a need for that,

no. one turns speech on/off but Voiceover is still active, hence why
you still hear its noises. Home triple press actually turns VO on/off.

Re: Speech Off VS Voiceover Off?

2015-05-16 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Fazil, turning VoiceOver off exits the whole screen reader. Speech off just
mutes the speech. For example I use VoiceOver a lot of the time with my Braille
display, and when I do that, I turn speech off but leave VoiceOver on so info
continues to be sent to my Focus 14 Blue.

Hi John, you may have the speak auto-correct or speak selection features

Hi John,

What settings do you like or use? I.e. encrypt, fast, safe.

I don't really have a good handle on these within this app.

Thanks, Keith

Kruptos will clean the memory on your phone. I am not sure how much it costs
because I got it before it changed names. It works with both the IPhone and
IPad.

Re: Anyone know how to use the game app Glow?

2015-05-16 Thread Donna
After downloading this game and playing around with it, in my opinion, this
game is not accessible. The game appears to be laid out in a grid. Voiceover
only recognizes 9 buttons laid out 3 buttons per row. Exploring the screen
there appears to be more buttons. The object of the game is to find 2 matching
tones in the grid. The problem for me, once I select the first button most of
the other buttons show as dimmed and can't be selected. This game hasn't been
updated since 2014 Minesweeper which is accessible has somewhat of the same
stragey.

Thanks much, Jonathan. Actually, I’ve to show a picture in Whatsapp to my

I would turn off voiceOver. Gestures for doing things are different with

Re: changing subscriber e-mail on this list

2015-05-16 Thread Christopher Chaltain
You can also go to the link found at the bottom of every page, i.e.
http://groups.google.com/group/viphone Click on My Settings ->
Membership and Email Settings and then change the email address used for
membership of this group. I find this quicker and easier than
subscribing first from your new email address, waiting until you start
getting messages at this new address and then unsubscribing from your
old address.

Subject: changing subscriber e-mail on this list

I need to change my e-mail address on this list, but I am not finding a way
to do this. Can someone direct me as to where to find the page or link to
change my subscriber e-mail address?

Thank you.

Pressing the round button should answer, pressing it again should hang up.
This is the way it worked on mine, from 2012, they may have changed it.
