Subject: 7300 (and Monitor)

Hi

I have a working 7300 to give away if anyone wants it. It has a G3
400 upgrade card, USB card, ATA card, ATI video card, 128MB RAM ...
and is otherwise stock :)

I also have a 19 inch LG CRT monitor (Studioworks 900B) that I
don't need any more if anyone wants to make a reasonable offer. It
is as good as new.

Please contact me off list if you are interested.

Thanks

Adam

At the bottom of the folder list on the LH side of Mail's window is a
button with a gear wheel icon. Clicking on this produces a menu.
Choose Get Info at the bottom of this menu and you will see a very
handy little utility which shows you any mail messages currently on
the Server. It also provides some very basic management tools,
including the ability to remove unwanted messages before you download
them.

PDF size blowout

2006-03-13 Thread Antony N. Lord

I've got an 8 page PDF (1.5Mb).

I've opened a single page in Adobe Illustrator to make some changes
(delete a line of text and add a caption) and resaved the document.

It's now a whopping 5Mb and remains that way after trying to use
Acrobat to reduce the file size.

Any ideas on a solution - I'm not exactly sure where the original
document is that was used to create the PDF (probably a Word file).

Cheers, Antony.

Re: PDF size blowout

2006-03-13 Thread Kelly Duffy
Hi Anthony,

If possible save the the individual page as an EPS from Illustrator
and distill that. Illustrator, Photoshop and even InDesign make pretty
large PDF files.

Then just add it back to your document.

Kind regards,
Kelly

Firefox Problem

2006-03-13 Thread Diana Graham Stevens
I recently swapped from Safari to Firefox 1.0.7. I had tried an
earlier version of Firefox and had no problems except that I could
not import my Safari bookmarks. [G4 Quicksilver, OS 10.3.8]

This version has problems with the windows:

1. The windows only have a scrolling arrow for going up, you can't
scroll down a line at a time. You have to go down a screen at a time
and then you can go up a line at a time

2. When more than one tab is open it shows part of the first tab
underneath (in the book marks window area). Refreshing gets rid of it
but it comes back.

3. On some sites the frames are not lined up. On the Devon FHS Map
page http://www.devonfhs.org.uk/maps.htm the map is displaced down
and to the left and you can't scroll down the window with the list of
parishes (no scrolling arrows at all). To get to the Ws you have to
use the down arrow and display them one at a time on the map. No
problem with Safari.

I have tried all the scrolling options.

Any one got any ideas? I am thinking of reverting to Safari!

Best wishes to all from Diana

Curiouser and curiouser. I thought I got the latest version but I
went to Mozilla and downloaded again. As it happens the last dmg file
is still on the Desktop, exactly the same except for a 1- added to
make the name different!

But in the about FireFox panel it says Firefox version 1.0.7 and at
the bottom of the panel it says:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.7.12)
Gecko/20050915 Firefox/1.0.7

I definitely installed it as my previous version did not have the
Import function. I shall re-install from the new dmg file and see
what happens.

Thanks for your help and also thanks to Lloyd who tried out the DFHS
site for me. I shall report back.

Printing problem

2006-03-13 Thread Severin Crisp
I recently posted a problem in printer sharing between my G5 and my
wife's G3 iMac, both on 10.4.5. Further investigation has narrowed
the problem down to the iMac, it appears something is broken in the
printing system. I have removed printer sharing from the equation by
installing the printer driver for the Epson SP720 onto the iMac and
plugging the printer in to the iMac.
As before, Page Setup hangs as does an attempt to retrieve the
printer information from Printer Setup. I have let Printer Setup
Repair do its stuff to no avail. Interestingly, if I ignore Page
Setup it will print or fax successfully.
I have a horrible feeling that the advice is going to be a clean
install of the system.

Any suggestions will be really welcome!

I installed again from the new dmg file. The about Firefox window now

still no down arrow in the scroll bar.

Is this the case with other users or is it just me?

You've described the problem well. In addition to Rob's suggestions,
it could be an EPSON-specific problem: have you investigated their
technical support options? To help narrow this down, can you please
create a faux printer and see if it's Page Setup works or fails? To do
this, go into Printer Setup and choose the IP Printer icon. Leave it
on LPD, then choose 'localhost' for the address (I assume printer
sharing is turned OFF on the iMac), and for Print Using, choose
Generic PostScript Printer. Add this printer (optionally set it as
your default), and try Page Setup...what happens?

I have a horrible feeling that the advice is going to be a clean
 install of the system.

I strongly doubt it's necessary. The problem is that if you're not
near anyone who can physical attend to your machine, reinstall is
simply the catch-all. However, as you suspect, if the problem is
corrupt preferences in your home directory then a reinstallation might
not provide any benefit.

For corrupt preference, go to the folder Home Library Preferences
and look for files starting with com.epson... and
com.apple.print You could move them to the trash, log out, log
back in, re-select your printer and see if there is any difference.
Also, reboot after setting up the EPSON printer in case the EPSON
software is not starting up properly.

James.

Mozilla and Eudora

2006-03-13 Thread Mervyn Giuliana Bond
I am using Mozilla as my main browser because it accesses my sites
for internet banking and does most other things reasonably well.
Eudora is my email application and I can set it so that a URL in an
email, if clicked, will open in Mozilla.
In Mozilla, if I click on an email address Mozilla naturally goes to
its own mail application. Is there a work-around so that clicking on
an email address in Mozilla will open Eudora?

Mozilla 1.7.12, iMac on 10.2.8, Eudora 5.2.1

Advice appreciated.

Hi Dianna,

I did install Firefox 1.5.0.1 about 1 week ago and I have the same problem
as you do, no down arrow!! I have a G5 1.8Ghz dual running OS X 10.3.9.
Apart from this firefox seems to work well. I can't figure this out.

From a feedback writer :

You could try this

I found a possible fix for page up/page down keys not working.
You will need to turn off caret browsing in firefox by either:
1. toggle it with F7
2. goto Firefox Preferences Advanced General Tab uncheck the
allow text to be selected with the keyboard option

My OSX 10.3.9 works Ok with Firefox 1.5.0.1
and I have that box unchecked

Thanks for the suggestion Bob.

I do not have the box checked and if I hit F7 it asks if I want to
turn caret browsing on. I am fairly sure it has always been off.

I am still using 10.3.8 but Philippe says he has the same problem and
he is using 10.3.9.

Now it has developed another quirk. If I hide Firefox when I
reactivate it the window is mostly blank, the top menus are gone so I
can't refresh, but if I ask for a new tab the tab underneath
reappears!

It is all too difficult, I think I shall have an early night and
think about it again in the morning.

I believe this is normally done by setting Eudora as the default app
in Mail.app's preferences.

I hope that gets around the fact that your browser has it's 'own' mail app.

Good luck

Paul

In Mozilla's preference panel for Mail Newsgroups there appears to
be no way of setting Eudora as the default.
Were you referring to some other Mail? The only other Mail I have is
Apple's Mail and it is different in layout from the one that pops up
in Mozilla. The mystery deepens.
