Re: Problems after update
After running with no apparent problems since Saturday the problem has reoccurred. this time the dock disappeared, other operations appeared OK but slow then the whole system locked up except for mouse movement. restart in safe mode went OK but then a normal restart showed no dock and the system was extremely slow eventually locking up again. Before it locked up I was able t look at the console which reported dock crash reports had been saved but I was unable t access them. I now doubt the problem has anything to do with the update and this was a coincidence. Can anyone advise me on my next step to find the cause of the problem? Re: Problems after update
Hi Barry, Did you install anything new just prior to doing the OS X 10.6.8 Combo update? Have you tried resetting PRAM and NVRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379 ? Another suggestion, Boot in Safe mode, run Repair Permissions in Disk Utility. Then restart normally. Or better still: Repair Disk Repair Permissions using the OS X Snow Leopard Installation disc. A). Repair Disk. 1. Start from your Mac OS X Install disc: Insert the installation disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key. 2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, select your language first, then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (at the top of your screen). Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility. 3. Click the First Aid tab. 4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions. 5. Select your Mac OS X volume (sub-entry below the drive entry). 6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk. If Disk Utility reports any errors have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. B) Then click on Repair Permissions. Excess drop-down menus
Hi All -- -- My sister-in-law asked me to look at a problem on her fairly new iMac, and although I was able to sort something out, use of the iMac was greatly hindered by unwanted appearance of drop-down menus. For example, trying to log into gmail, if you clicked on the box for username, up would come a drop-down menu starting with Copy / Edit / Paste. Clicking anywhere on a page in most applications also would bring up these menus. -- Mostly the menu would disappear on typing Return, and usually the box could then be typed into. Sometimes, though, clicking on a blank box would not select it. I tried to run Repair Permissions on her machine, but although I could select her main drive, I was unable to select the RP option. -- Has anyone any ideas on this? The iMac does have a wireless keyboard (which I'm unfamiliar with), but can't think that this would be relevant. I couldn't find anything useful on Apple Help regarding menus. TIA. Re: Excess drop-down menus
Hi David, That sounds as though it has everything to do with the keyboard. Rather than a standard mouse click, you seem to be getting a Control mouse click. Try a different keyboard temporarily to see if things change. If the problem goes away it could be a stuck key or a hardware issue. Re: Ten ways to replace iWeb and MobileMe hosting ...
Peder, • organise free web hosting at http://www.freeservers.com/. You get fairly reasonable ads added to your site, and there is a page size limit, but it's free. * develop your site locally with iWeb • upload with their uploader. Bit of a learning curve, but works well You can check out a website that I maintain there using their free site option http://www.capetocape.8m.com/ Total cost = $0 pa. Ronni Yes I did run Disk Repair a second time and no errors were reported. I then ran Repair permissions as you suggested but have not run it again since starting in normal mode but I will do it now. Re: Linked In Mailout apology
Hi Carlo, I would not call this a “Deliberate deception” by LinkedIn. Sure, Ken is not the first person to have made this error. At the bottom of one of the links I previously sent is this explanation how Ken can stop the “Reminder emails” being sent out to everyone in his Address Book … WAMUG included. Again, the link is: http://www.linkedin.com/answers/using-linkedIn/ULI/774533-5002611 = “:STEPS FOR ACCESSING LINKEDIN CUSTOMER SERVICE PAGES Under the MORE TAB at the top of the LinkedIn web pages, click on the drop down list item LEARNING CENTER. This will open up the online LinkedIn assistance and explanation web pages. http://learn.linkedin.com/ Under RESOURCES, in the OVERVIEW section, click on CUSTOMER SERVICE. This will open a LinkedIn web page titled GET STARTED HERE. You can either choose from the presented list of items or search for a solution by entering the key words describing your issue in the search box. Entering the verbiage 'Invitation Reminders' in the box and clicking the Search Button returns a list of possible solutions for an issue related to invitations to connect. In this case, item one on the list, 'Invitation Reminders', refers to the LinkedIn Profile issue you are trying to resolve; click on this item, and follow the steps LinkedIn Customer Service offers members to resolve this issue. --- This is the information which will be presented. Do recipients get reminder emails after I send them an Invitation? LinkedIn automatically sends reminder emails to Invitation recipients who have not yet responded to your Invitation. Our intention behind sending reminders is to jog the receiver's memory in case they overlooked the original message. No more than two reminders are ever sent and once a member archives or replies to the Invitation, reminders are stopped. If you want to prevent any additional reminders from being sent, you can withdraw the Invitation. If you have received requests from multiple contacts to end the reminders, customer service can withdraw all pending Invitations on your behalf. Then, later at your discretion, you can re-send Invitations to any of those contacts. If you want LinkedIn Customer Service to withdraw all pending Invitations sent from your account, please contact us. “ === Cheers, Ronni On 29/06/2011, at 12:37 PM, cm wrote: Don't feel bad, Ken.
