Re: Fonts in Font Book
Have you considered a font manager such as Suitcase. I run this manager (Suitcase 4) and it works flawlessly. I think it's only $130 or something like that. I tested running Helv Neue Light overriding the system font and it works fine. I don't think it can be done with font book. Otherwise, I have heard that you can write a script to deactivate the system font but I don't know how to do this. …Others might! Grab your pitchforks,...lets go! Apple are evil!!! The product hasn't even been announced yet! lol. Sure, I'm sure at first it will be a bit annoying. But as Carlo has mentioned, I'm sure *someone* will make an adapter. Heck, Apple themselves might do it! (They did for the new Magsafe2 adapter). Then the current accessories will keep working. Once you upgrade, or the product dies. You purchase a new one that has the new 19pin adapter. Yes it can be annoying at first, but overtime there's probably a good reason for it. Make a smaller adapter/charger then find it works with xyz and wow, it's the best thing ever!! :o) I have Dock connector extender already for my iPhone. Because it has a case and sits in a Universal charger, it won't fit with the case on. Rather then taking the case off all the time, I simply bought a Dock extender. Now it sits in the charger fine, and I can keep the case on. Works great. Sure, cost me a little bit more then just having the Universal Dock. But hey, it does all the things I want it to do with the iPhone. And I'm sure the flip side of this, if Apple made a larger iPhone to house everything and keep the current adapter we'd see headlines saying Apple iPhone too big to carry around. (ok, I'd be rubbish at writing headlines,...but you get my point,...lol) :) Sure, we don't always agree with everything that Apple do (I'm at that point with still trying to decide on the current 15, but I won't go there again). But over time, there's normally a reason for it. Perhaps not just straight away. (3.5 floppies anyone?) On 04/06/2012, at 9:41 AM, Ronda Brown wrote: Hi Lorenzo, You are correct, Apple did release some early MacPros with mislabeling/miswiring problem. What happened was two wires got mislabeled. This didn’t happen when the Bluetooth module was added to the computer, but during the actual assembly of the Mac Pro. The Bluetooth module is a small chip placed on the motherboard, and it has to be connected to a tiny wire that runs to the Bluetooth antenna. But, I don't think that is the problem with the MacPro Chris has, because the bad bluetooth connection has only happened lately, not from purchase time. If Chris is concerned that it could be the wiring, he could take it to a technician and have it checked. Or, I do have a document showing how to fix the wiring. Forums have also suggested WiFi interference but surely Apple would have thought of that one?? Are you using a 5GHz Wireless Network or a 2.5GHz wireless network? If you have installed any mouse add-on, uninstall it, especially USB overdrive (uninstall not just remove the preference panel). Check a few other things you could try changing and then test to see if it helps. 1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple () menu, then choose Mouse from the View menu. Set the Tracking slider to adjust how fast the pointer moves as you move the mouse. 2. Try using a different surface to see if the tracking improves. 3. Turn the mouse over and inspect the sensor window. Use compressed air to gently clean the sensor window if dust or debris is present. Bandwidth intensive devices could also affect tracking. I'm using a Belkin N300 300Mbps I have my iphone between the MacPro and the mouse. I use a 6MHz phone but only just bought it. Re: Mail attachments to PC
I have exactly the same issue. I zip my files and send. Then ask them to email me back to check they have them. It's only an issue with Jpgs. I think it just standard for Microsoft programs to imbed all RGB jpgs. Don't think there is any other workarounds. I'd also be grateful to know other ways. I'm not sure why, but a couple of workarounds: Right-click and Compress the image file, ie. convert to a zip file, before attaching. This usually works, although there's a chance that the recipient's mail filters treat the zip file as suspicious. Some corporates don't allow incoming zip files at all. If sending a single page image file in a format which does handle multiple pages, such as pdf of tiff, add a blank page (Preview can handle this) so that you send a two-page document to the recipient. Re: Brother colour laser printers
My wife has a dance school and we bought Brother printers because they were cheap and we just needed a stop gap until we could afford more efficient, expensive printers. This proved to be a big mistake. For the cost of the cartridges over a 3 month period we spent at least twice what a 'good' printer would cost. The Brothers turned out to be VERY expensive. One day I said enough is enough and literally unplugged the Brothers and through them in the bin and replaced them with one Xerox ($550, cartridges $185 or so). Do you know that we have not had to replace the cartridge (apart from the original; they are always low with toner) since we bought it. Brilliant! Something I think we all are asking ourselves at moment, whilst reducing or sustaining charges to clients. A task made more difficult when governments are asking for restraint, as necessary services are reporting substantial increases into the near future. This will test Apple faithful as alternatives are on the surface substantially cheaper, but productivity and relevant software becomes an issue. Sync the iPhones with iTunes as normal, allow contacts, calendar, bookmarks to be synced via MobileMe. But do NOT sync your mail accounts. Turn that option off. (Uncheck in iTunes - Mail Accounts Sync Selected Mail Accounts) 2.Then you have to set this up on your individual iPhones. You go into SETTINGS, then MAIL/CALENDAR/CONTACTS, then ADD ACCOUNT. On your iPhone, you will set up your own MM account and the other iPhone you set up the other Mail Account. That way you share the contacts and calendars, but each iPhone User has their own emails. Re: iPhone - still only Optus selling unlocked ?
A mate of mine wanted an iphone quickly and he rang Telstra Morley. He said they had heaps of them. They will also unlock the phone apparently. I think for a price! Regards Chris Griffiths On 07/08/2008, at 4:23 AM, Steven Knowles wrote: For those that are keeping right on top of the iPhone plans, could I trouble someone to confirm that Optus are currently the only telco with an unlocked version of the iPhone on offer? That's the last I heard. Basically all I need is an unlocked handset, as it will be for use on Etislat www.etisalat.ae in the UAE. Optus FAQ states... - The iPhone 3G will be locked to the Optus Network. If you connect the iPhone 3G to a Post-Paid (on account) contract you are able to unlock the handset by calling Optus Customer Service. No unlocking fee is applicable. With Optus Pre-Paid an $80 fee applies if network locking is removed within the first 6 months from the activation date. Alternatively, the customer needs to have recharged up to the value of $80. - So I interpret this as that an unlocked version of the iPhone would cost me $80 more than buying the just the handset itself. Correct? Is there a cheaper option? I don't like the idea of being a guinea pig - there's gotta be someone out there who's tested this already, ie. an Optus-sold unlocked iPhone on a foreign network? Why is it that only Optus sell an unlocked version (if that is still the case)? Re: Skype audio quality
I've often encountered the same thing. I'm wondering whether it has to do with the differing connection speeds. In other words, if I am on 512 and my caller is on 256 the caller breaks up and I'm clear. Because I noticed that when we were both on 512 we had no problems. Chris Griffiths On 10/10/2007, at 5:22 PM, Severin Crisp wrote: I am encountering fairly regularly situations where Skype audio quality during a call is bad in one direction but not in the other. He reported the reverse with a third party - he could hear them perfectly but waqs himself breaking up to them. Is there a simple explanation for this and more importantly what can be done about? Re: ilife08 Specs
I read on the apple feedback pages that the reason for some of these problems is that the specs for running the software is quite high and a lot of people are using computers than don't meet the specs. This is well documented on MacFixit and elsewhere and is apparently due to plugin problems with addon plugins that are brought in at installation from the previous version. In my case a trashing of iPhoto and an effective clean reinstallation solved the problem. Others may have a period of tooth gnashing and head scratching so hope this helps. Apart from a real dumbing down of the capabilities of iMovie, which the special download of iMovie HD for 08 takes care of, I am only mildly enthusiastic about iLife08 - it seems pointed fair and square at the easy canned options approach, which is fine but the more sophisticated bits should not have been hidden in the process. Re: Strange iMac
I have a problem with my 20 iMac. When I try to start it up it goes through the process of starting up i.e. it shows the apple icon and the spinning wheel then it shows the panel with the big X starting the system, then it shows the background picture and nothing else. No dock, no icons nothing but the background pic. Up in the top right hand corner is a tiny piece of the spotlight icon and when I move the cursor into that area I get the spinning coloured wheel?
