Re: ITunes window problem
Thanks Ronni Daniel!.No luck with control command F Ronni, however,Daniels suggestion worked! On 2 Dec 2013, at 9:15 pm, Daniel Kerr wa...@macwizardry.com.au wrote: Hi Robert If no joy with Ronni's suggestion a couple of others to try that can also work,…. 1. If you hover over the top of the iTunes window (about in the middle) then you'll see the icon change to an arrow pointing up and down. Drag this down to make the top of the iTunes window smaller. Then once you've made is smaller that way, click in the grey area at the top and move the whole window up. This should bring it up below where you can see it. Sometimes you have to repeat this a few times to get it working. (You can also do the same with the left and right sides as well to bring it in, if it ever goes that way as well). 2. In System Preferences, go to Displays. Depending which version of the OS you're running, the next step can differ. But where it says Resolution change this to scaled. Then choose a resolution lower then what you're running. (e.g. 1600x1200 or 1280x960). This will then shrink all the window. iTunes should then shrink to fit into the window you're working. Then go back and change it the resolution back to the higher resolution. This should generally then keep iTunes at the smaller resolution it was at when you changed it. You can then drag the corner out to make it bigger again. 3. If you can get to the Window menu in iTunes, you can go to Zoom then it will expand out to the full size of the screen. Then you can drag the corner into the size you want. Hopefully something out of these suggestions works with Ronni's as well. Let us know how you go. NOMINATIONS for the Committee We are calling for nominations for the committee. Please consider standing for the committee to assist WAMUG. The committee is a totally voluntary group that is always looking for some fresh views and ideas. Whilst committee meetings are held every month, you may not be able to attend every one. Please don't let this stand in your way. Even if you can only attend a few throughout the year, please consider becoming a member. There is a committee email group that keeps all connected as well. The committee must have a minimum of five members to function under the constitution. We currently just have that minimum five members. Hi Ronni! Sorry about the Lion oversight! I now have a Library/mail folder in Lion but can't get it to work in Snow Leopard . I'm still getting duplicates BUT only WAMUG messages! As nothing has happened I have put the ‘Envelope Index’ back into Mail (UsersLibraryMail) 5. I have done the rebuild and synchronise account. 6. I have to send this from my iBook because I can't receive or send emails now. The hard drive is getting full and I have tried to clear some space but perhaps it is not enough to enable Mail to rebuild. (My quick solution is to go to Officeworks this morning and get an external to clear a lot more space on the hard drive OR if the group can suggest somewhere else to get an external quickly, I have to do this anyway because the drive is getting towards capacity) Thanks, Rick Tiger 10.4.11 Hi Rick, Is this a POP Account and are you leaving Mail on The Server? If it is and you are leaving mail on the server, go to Mail File Preferences Select the Account, select the Advanced Tap, check Remove copy from server after retrieving a message:, and select “Remove Now”. That will leave nothing on the mail server if you are comfortable with that. Then, manually delete any additional messages that may be taking up extra space. You can then remove as much as possible from your Hard Drive until you have enough Free Space on it. Sounds like your Mail might require some clearing out and your Hard Drive. Re: OS 10.6.8/OS Lion Question
HEELP! I decided to try Carlo's suggestion - Made a Carbon Cloner copy on ext. drive, Partitioned the internal Drive (Mac OS Extended(Journaled).Installed Lion on main System,Installed snow leopard on small partition and applicable soft ware. Results! Lion will not open as default -have to hold option on startup otherwise I get the spinning wheel and a circle with the diagonal line. On startup with option I get the Lion Volume but no Snow Leopard Volume. The Leopard Volume does show up on the desktop in Lion. tried running Disk Warrior on the Leopard Volume to no avail. Checked out Spotlight Prefs in both systems.Need more help with that ! Please help. Thanks! Hi Robert, Just to add to what Ronda has said and to give you some other options. Assuming you are migrating towards Lion on your iMac, you have a number of options to run 10.6 Snow Leopard in an auxiliary role. Here is a setup that I recently put in place for someone with an iMac. A large internal partition of the hard drive runs OS X 10.7 Lion and this partition also contains all the data files, while a much smaller internal partition contains OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard can see all the data files available to Lion. To boot into Snow Leopard, one just restarts the computer while holding down the Option key and one sees a selection menu to choose either operating system. By default the computer boots into OS X 10.7 Lion. To get this setup proceed as follows. I will give just a thumbnail sketch of the steps below, but if you want to proceed and can't follow the abbreviated steps, please write back to the group. 1) Make a clone of your system to an external drive using Carbon Copy Cloner or equivalent, just to give you an exit strategy should something go wrong. 2) Use Disk Utility to make a new small partition on your internal drive, 50 - 150 GB should be ample. Use the default Mac OS Extended (journaled) format. 3) Run the Lion upgrade application to move your main system to OS X 10.7 Lion. 4) Install a new copy of Snow Leopard on the small partition and install the software you would like to run under Snow Leopard there. Now you can will boot into Lion by default but can boot into Snow Leopard by holding down the Option key. You can run Freehand and Photoshop CS2 by booting into Snow Leopard. There are a number of variations to the above. One is to put Snow Leopard on an external drive. If this is bootable (as described by Ronni below) you can boot into it by holding down the option key. Another variation is to use copy your original bootable Snow Leopard install back to the the small partition -- this, however, will likely require you to make your Snow Leopard install much smaller by deleting redundant files. Remember that while you may not be able run certain applications on both systems, all the data files of each operating system are visible to both operating systems, so there is not need to maintain two copies of your data files. One small complication is that you need to stop Spotlight from indexing both operating system application files. That is to say, if you use Spotlight to launch, say, Disk Utility (as I do), you don't want the Lion version showing up in Snow Leopard, and the Snow Leopard version showing up in Lion. This is solved by excluding the Snow Leopard Application file from within the Spotlight preferences on Lion, and excluding the Lion Application folder from within the Spotlight preferences on Snow Leopard. You can use a USB External; Drive if you wish, I just prefer using FW drives (of which I have many ;-) Very important: You first must format the external drive in ‘GUID Partition Table’ Format: Mac OS Extended (journaled) otherwise you will not be able to boot from the drive. Just wanna say a big thankyou to all for your help. Jan's computer is up and firing again. Installing combo update did the trick. Am now setting up Time Machine!! Assuming you have another Mac to hand (yours?) and a firewire cable, boot the Emac in target mode and clone it's drive to somewhere, eg: - spare external drive (ideal) - disk image on an external drive (with enough space) - disk image on your machine (again with enough space) Now, I'd feel safe to address the problem. As Bob says, sometimes the stand-alone Combo update often works best for updating - and the fact that you used Auto update doesn't stop you running the Combo update over the top of this - and you shouldn't lose any info. Since the problem only appeared after the auto update, it seems highly likely (though not certain) that this is the root of your problem and so running the Combo updater over the top may be all that's needed to fix it. -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I've made a note of this for future reference! Boot the Mac, then immediately hold down Command- S until you see some scrolling UNIX code on a black background. This allows you to run fsck (that's not a bad spelling mistake - it stands for File System Check). You type fsck -fy at the prompt and wait for it to do its thing. It has worked for me when even Diskwarrior has failed. It fixes a multitude of problems with the disk catalog, permissions, and many other things. In fact, I had to use it on my old G4 tower just a week or so ago following an iTunes upgrade. the computer would not progress past a solid blue screen, but following a restart in Single User Mode and running fsck ,everything came back to normal and it's been running perfectly ever since. -- Peter HinchliffeApwin Computer Services FileMaker Pro Solutions Developer Perth, Western Australia Phone (618) 9332 6482Fax (618) 9332 0913 Mac because I prefer it -- Windows because I have to. -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
