# 1
Mike as a grown woman I feel compelled to answer your # 1 question 01) Just what can you do with a grown woman? First you pick her up in your car (very important that it's clean). Take her to the various shops and bazaars of Mayberry (carry the packages). Then out to lunch (don't let the waitress squash her pie). After which you will give your opinion on the dress with the red dot or the green stripe (be prepared to say they both look great). Then to visit her mother. No doubt about, it's a fun day. Remember to avoid saying you have her in your hip pocket! Kim - Wylie, TX ___ WBMUTBB mailing list WBMUTBB@wbmutbb.com http://www.mayberry.com/tagsrwc/wbmutbb/
Natural Mayberrians
Sylvia asked about Goober and Howard growing up in Mayberry. I believe they did, or at least got there as youngsters. Andy mentioned Howard being shy in High School. Also Goober age 5 was present at the first Punch in the Nose Case, reading a comic book waiting for a haircut. Mayberry activities
All the Mayberry activities people have written about sound like such fun. I'd add going to that boiled dinner at the fire house, I always wondered what exactly was being boiled - taters, cabbage, MEAT? Also helping Andy try to coax Fluffy down from the roof. For some reason those things have always just fascinated me and I don't think I could leave Mayberry without looking into them. The other night I made some brownies and we also happened to have some peach ice cream. So I put a scoop on top of a warm brownie and sat down to indulge. romance
My favorite romantic moment is when Gomer brings Mary Grace the cor-sage, it twangs my heartstrings every time. I also like it when at the dance Barney hollers out to Thelma Lou, you're the only girl I ever loved. And in the first Darling episode when Charlene tells Dud, you're the sweetest boy what ever growed. Now those sentiments ought to be written on greeting cards. I couldn't help but notice The Untrained Voice mentioned several romantic encounters that fall into the Love Hurts category. I'll be ol Sig Frood could really do a good study on that. that makes me cry
Since I don't have Internet access over the weekend, one of my favorite Monday morning activities is having some coffee and looking at what I missed Saturday and Sunday. Reading what Joe wrote about songs, and the people who were drawn into singing along, was just beautiful. Those are some of the most poignant moments on TAGS. I also like it when Andy and Barney are singing One Empty Chair and Otis joins in. It's done for comedy, but later when Barney gets emotional at the thought of losing Otis - it's so sweet. It's kind of like the character actors we love so much. We meet with them on our favorite show, and they are not forgotten to us. When we watch modern TV, we miss them not showing up with their familiar faces and funny lines. Yesterday my Sunday School Teacher (who is also a High School Teacher) mentioned she knew she was getting old when she said to her class Like Don Knotts says, 'Nip it in the bud' and the class said, Who?. That concerned me - knowing there are kids out there just not being raised proper. These poor kids need TAGS now! Jud and Sally
I don't want to make a moulage by mentioning this station, but back when TV Land was good I remember seeing a musical tribute to two different character actors who had appeared on TAGS. One was for Burt Mustin and showed him in his roles on Leave it to Beaver, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Monkees and TAGS to name a few. The other was for Jane Dulo who played convict Sally (who dances with Al), she was also 99's mother on Get Smart and Oscar Madison's mother on The Odd Couple and appeared in many other shows. I liked those musical montages because it enabled me to see so many places where these famous faces showed up. I just wish they'd done it for even more actors. It would have been so great seeing how many different shows actors like Mary Treen, Cheerio Meredith, Lurene Tuttle, Dick Elliot and Will Wright (to name only a handfull) had also appeared on. All the more reason to love TAGS, those who dwelled in or passed through our dear Mayberry won't be forgotten by us. Ken, I think you're wise to diversify in your investments. I've been approached by a fellow who owns the original Robert E Lee Natural Bridge. Untrained voice said about Tom's memories, I know I'd like to know more about them, and I look forward to him sharing more. I second that because I wish I could have had the opportunity to speak with these people. Other possible late night Mayberry activites might be: Aunt Bee getting up to give Opie some medicine; Fluffy the cat sneaking out onto the roof; Mr Schwump nodding off while watching the late, late show; Andelina crying for a bottle; a possum crawling out from under a rock; Gilley speeding down the deserted roads, Asa waking up in the bank after a long day. Mayberry moment

Good questions Peggy
1. Goober and Flora ever got married? In my mind they did and enjoyed spending time with Gomer and Lou Ann. 2. When Andy and Helen moved back to Mayberry, they were able to buy the Williams house? The white one with all the big trees? If I remember correctly, Opie was living in the house he grew up in, otherwise I'd think the Williams house would be great - if they got the plumbing fixed. 3. Since Otis got sober, he might have started the first AA meetings in Mayberry in the basement of the church? And they added a pool table to give those recovering a new hobby. 4. That Gomer made a career of the Marines? Possibly, then he and Lou Ann retired in Mayberry (everyone just has to come back to Mayberry) 5. Any of the Darling boys ever found a wife? One of them married Idel Bushy (although Charlene wasn't thrilled about it). 6. The Widow Saunders finally married the dish towel salesman? For sure! 7. The Morrison sisters built another still? They spent their remaining years trying to perfect a flower growing machine. 8. They still need a brine tester at the pickel factory? After Otis, no one could compare. 9. Malcolm retired and settled in Mayberry? Of course! 10. Barn got his den with his leather couch and books and a dog? But more importantly, he got Thelma Lou. serious lines and scenes
Some of my favorite serious lines are: 1st episode when Aunt Bee is leaving and talks about how she wished she could do all the things Opie likes, while her and Andy are looking in at him sleeping. When after Andy sends Opie and Aunt Bee away while he waits for Luke Comstock, the tension is very apparent. When Barney defends Andy at the hearing, and speaks eloquently about how much he's done for Mayberry. When Goober went on the date with the lady Professor and said he realizes he wasn't exactly who she expected. Then later she said sometimes it's important to meet someone who has a good heart. There are so many of these and they're expertly placed so that before things become too tense or dramatic, something humorous is done or spoken to help us all remember how shaded life really is. Barney as Deputy
Ken, you raise some interesting points about Barney as a Deputy. My theory is that Andy knew Barney well and what he could eventually become. It just took 15 or 20 years for Barn to become it (I'm not considering the Return to Mayberry movie). In my mind, Barney caught on and became a dependable detective for the Raleigh Police Department. Also Andy did make Barney take the bullets out of his gun in the interest of safety. Otis and Gomer had probably grown up using guns to squirrel hunt and such, so they'd have some firearm knowledge. Just don't put Gomer on a roof and expect him to hang onto a gun. As you can see, I like to fill things in the way I'd like them to be. favorite once seen characters
Like Col. Tim, there are so many one time characters that are so great they make a major impression. Two of my favorites are Clarence Earp and his manager. I know I've mentioned before that the line Besmerch the name of Earp is one of my favorites because somehow when you speak these words together they kinda hang in the back of your throat. Sorta gross, but funny all the same. I love listening to Floyd's description of how Wyatt Earp's relative will be. Then seeing Clarence ride in with head held hight and that self assured look in his eyes. And later when he talks about how being Clarence Earp had made such a difference in his life, it was touching. I think that's why Andy didn't try to correct it when his manager revealed Clarence's true last name of Dempsy. favorite lines
One of my all time favorite lines is uttered by Andy, when Barney gets anxious about Luke Comstock coming to town and Andy is called out to get Fluffy off the roof. Andy says, Fluffy's got kittens, and you know how you'd feel seeing your mother on the roof. My favorite line by Barney is Boooy, giraffes are selfish. My favorite line by Floyd is Maude, Al, if those hamburgers are ruined, I won't be responsible. By Briscoe is when he shows up at Andy's house and Andy says, Well this is a surprize to which Briscoe answers, Ain't it. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here. visitin relatives
Ken, I have an idea that might help with your visiting relatives. Just tell them that due to space restraints, they'll have to adventure sleep. If they're unaware of what that entails, then you can explain it's on an ironing board between two chairs. That's bound to make someone think twice about spending the night. I think that even though Andy didn't answer directly to the Mayors, in a small town like Mayberry he had to work with them as government employees. Andy tried hard to get along with everyone, and was respectful of an elder so I think he was just being Andy. cures
Take 11/42 oz gentian root, 1 drachm valerian root, 2 drachms best rhubarb root, 3 drachms bitter orange peel, 11/42 oz cardamom seeds, and 1 drachm cinnamon bark. Bruise all together in a mortar, then steep in 1 11/42 pints boiling water, and cover tightly. Let stand until cold. Then strain, bottle, and cork securely. Keep in a dark place. Two tablespoonfuls may be taken every hour before meals. I think by the time anyone got through making this cure their hangover would be over. I've always wondered about Aunt Bee when she got gassed on the Indian elixir. After her first dose, she didn't seem to suffer from a hangover. But when her and the ladies wound up in jail, several were feeling it and Andy just served them coffee. Maybe hangover cures work better for those like Otis, who take a more serious approach to drinkin.
