Does anyone have any info on the status of the autobiography of Andy that Amazon.com was advertising about a year ago? The info about it disappeared and then I never heard anymore about it. Fishing with no bait
I have also noticed that Andy and Opie had no bait in the opening of the show. They could have had some artificial bait in the tackle box, but in all the other shows they used worms. I believe they also didn't have anything to put the fish they caught in. In at least one show they used an old sack, but all I see in the opening are the tackle box and their poles. Makes you think! I still think the best way to do it is to place an ad with a pic of him from the show in USA Today. Even if his family didn't see the ad, surely someone would that knows the family. I think it's time to solve this mystery once and for all. It would be a great Christmas present to find out who the man really was. Also...what about someone from the California area contacting one of the local tv stations and asking them to help? Our local stations in Alabama do human interest stories like that. Doesn't make sense to me
In the episode where Barney and Andy are hunting the infamous Ralph Neal, Barney has been training a dog called Blue. At the end of the episode when Neal has Andy and Barney captured and is about to take them hostage in the squad car, he looks around and says, Where's Blue? This part doesn't make sense. I know the writers had to have a way to get Blue back in the scene so he could attack Neal and Andy could capture him, but why would an escaped convict care if the dog went along with them? It would be easier to just leave the dog, but Neal seemed determined that old Blue come along. Of course that gave Andy the idea of having Neal blow the dog whistle that would make him attack him. Just think that could have been done differently. Oh well.believe I'll go down to Wally's and get a pop. Sure was nice to see most of you at the fundraiser! I am sure now we have all we need to keep that Pike clan out of office! The reason I said MOST is because a certain Mr. Bass showed up and stuck his hand in the punch bowls and then proceeded to throw rocks at me! To the FINE folks of our fair little town: 1. There is NO truth to the rumor that the overpass was put there to help any person's business. This cruel type of rumor is a perfect example as to what the Pike campaign will throw out there to confuse our FINE townfolk. 2. TV LAND's 2008 schedule
I see they are adding Just Shoot me and The Beverly Hillibillies. JUST SHOOT ME? A CLASSIC??? They are also adding these shows: Hogan's Heroes - June 2008Mad About You - July 2008Murphy Brown - July 2008Scrubs - September 2008 ( A CLASSIC?) They will also continue their bewilding habit of showing B grade movies that we have all seen 100 time and they will repeat them that many I am sure. Add in their specials and it is looking worse and worse for TV Land. They are trying to sell to a younger audience now and I wonder how long before they remove our favorite shows. Here would be my ideal TV LAND programming: TAGS Leave It To Beaver The Real McCoys Father Knows Best Donna Reed Show I Love Lucy Your Show of Shows Red Skeleton Hour Jack Benny The Honeymooners M*A*S*H Gilligans Island I could list a few more, but I don't have my thinking bucket with me. To me the above are real classics. Shows like Designing Women, The Golden Girls, A Team, Good Times, Just Shoot me, Mad About You and so forth are not TRUE classics. Question about TVLAND
I have asked this before, but still don't understand. Why are the times when programs start on TVLAND off by 5-10 minutes??? I can't even set my DVR to record anything because of that. Yes, pretty sure Andy and Don and probably most of them smoked back then. Also have read that Andy and some of the others were pretty good drinkers in their time. ( Never have heard that about Don though. ) It was a tv show and they weren't perfect. Yes, Aunt Bee and Andy didn't get along well in real life. More her aloofness than anything else I think. Question about the jail
Ever noticed that there didn't seem to be a bathroom? I know they didn't want to show a potty in the cell, but I can't remember seeing a bathroom in any TAGS. Leave it to Beaver showed several bathroom scenes...just wondering. Since it appeared that Andy or Barney always stayed there ( especially when they had a prisoner), there had to be a bathroom for them to use. What is up with TV LAND and edited R rated movies?
They have been showing the movie BASIC INSTINCT over and over and over. They bleep out the curse words and edit some of the nudity. I always thought of TV LAND as a channel the whole family could watch. They seem to be getting away from just regular classic show with the David Steinberg interviews, movies, etc. I don't like the trend. Goober was on MASH on TV Land the last two nights. He played a drinking hillbilly doctor that was taking Hawkeye's place for a few days. He was a might bit heavier than when on TAGS. OLD SAM
I just watched the episode where Howard caught Old Sam, the silver carp. It always struck me as odd that they talked about how big he was. Andy, Goober, and Floyd talk about how long Old Sam had been in the lake. What is odd to me is that the fish they show doesn't seem that big. I looked up this on the net about silver carp. The silver carp is also called the flying carp for its tendency to leap from the water when startled. They can grow to over 40 lb., and can leap 10 ft. in the air. Many boaters traveling in uncovered high-speed watercraft have been injured by running into the fish while at speed. Seems like Old Sam should have been a LOT bigger than the 8 lbs or so he appears to be if he was that old. Maybe that couldn't find a bigger fish. Autographs
Best way to get them of course is in person. That way you know they are realand have your pic taken with the star too if possible. Now with so many of the TAGS cast gone, that's not possible. I was able to meet and get autographs from most of the show years ago. Got three of Barney, also have Thel, Gomer, Otis, Earnest T, Andy, and Aunt Bea. Never met Andy or Aunt B in personvery hard to do that anyway lol. I got hers by just writing to her and got it back not too long before she died. I really treasure that one from Siler City! The thing I remember most about all of them is how nice they were in person. No big show biz attitudes. Betty Lynne tallked to my daughter for a LONG time about teaching. She was so sweet. Hal Smith was just a neat guy. He even wrote me a letter after I met him. Don Knotts was so frail I felt sorry for him.but he posed for pics with us after he had been signing photos and was worn out. For quite awhile now the shows are ending ( or at least some of them ), at ten minutes past scheduled time. As long as this has been going on, you would think they could get everything on schedule. TAGS boxed set
This is the same thing they did with MASH. After everyone had bought the single season episodes, they brought out a boxed set loaded with extras. Just another way to make money. Well, I already have the Make Room for Daddy episode and the TAGS movie on VHS. If they ever issue them separately I will buy them, but I refuse to buy the boxed set after spending money on each season already. Andy and the color episodes
I don't know if Andy was angry as much as just not really into the show that much. He seemed like he was going through the motions in some shows. I wonder if part of that was because of the big changes in the cast. With Don gone ( and Howard too in later shows ), I wonder if maybe he was just down about all that. Who knows? More on Andy's personality
There is a dirrerence in Andy's personality throughout the whole run of the show. In the first seaons , he was MUCH more countrfied in his ways and his accent. He would use incorrect grammar ( and so would Barney), but as the show went on you could see that disappearing. One example is in the esp where the guy comes to town to record a folk album. Andy can be heard to pronounce the word BANJO as BANJER..he would also use SICH for such, etc. Also during this time, Andy seemed more prone to pull pratical jokes and just sometimes act silly. I think of these years as the HAPPY GO LUCKY YEARS. Then in the middle of the run, Andy seemed to be more educated in his speech. I enjoy these epsisodes most. I think they were really in their stride. Andy was still cheerful, but you can see the difference. Then in the post Barney years, Andy really seemed to change a lot. He doesn't have the humor of Barney to play off, but he even seems a little distant to Goober and the others. I am not being negative, but just stating what I see. I don't like these episodes as much...mainly because Barney was gone. It would have been great to have had ten years with Andy and Barney together. I know we should be thankful for what we have now, but I do wonder what all they could have done if Barney had just stayed in Mayberry.
