As I told you, native language sites are on a SilverStripe instance. Maybe

Fair enough. For now, I'll indicate that content bugs should go to
Bugzilla with Component: 'Documentation' and prefix WIKIHELP:. IIRC

be our next issue to resolve.

For now this is the l10n team who is taking care of the help files and the

There is already a meta issue opened by Olivier concerning missing help

For the moment we shoud re-install the questy captcha.

I have heard that there have been complaints from some language

But in the time I wrote this, two new users have inserted their spam
 in the wiki.
We obviously can not allow this and the dirty work of blocking and
deleting prevents us from doing more useful things.

thanks a lot for that, this is really appreciated! Copying Sophie, as
she was afraid that the ReCaptcha might exclude non-English speakers.

I indeed see that the spam is becoming a problem, and for about 6-9
months, the QuestyCaptcha seems to have worked just fine, even with just
 English locale.

Sophie, can we give it a try again, what do you think?

Well I think asking questions in English about something where you have

very difficult for our non English speaking community, but I'm not the

That'd be great! Can you ask them how they solve it? I assume they are in a
comfortable situation, as they have one localized wiki for each language and
so don't run into the localization issue (each wiki has its own language at
Wikipedia) - but getting feedback here would be great!

I doubt that we can use their solution.
They provide a global login (kind of single-sign-on). You register or
connect to your local wikipedia and get access to all NL-wikipedias
 and connected wikis like wikiquote.
You always get a message on this fact when you log in.

Well, as we don't think anymore to have a wiki in local language, I
don't see any other solution than protecting the wiki, as I don't have
the technical skills to see otherwise, but that's against the community too.

 Hello,

so I spent the afternoon doing further research. Basically, we're up to
date with our plugins and the way we fight spam.

Great!

Besides locking down the full wiki (i.e. manual account approval), there
 are some more options:

 (1) Switching to OpenID

New wiki users would be forced to use an OpenID provider, like Yahoo or
Google, to connect to the wiki. We use this at AskBot (for different
reasons), but every once in a while we receive complaints that people
cannot just create a local account. I think this is a valid concern,
having to use an account at some other site first doesn't sound overly
inviting. Plus we then would end up with a mixture of local accounts and
OpenID-based ones, as existing wiki users would not be affected.

Well, I not for that one (I don't like to be forced to something ;-)

 (2) Restricting external URLs to approved users

As most of the spam we see is targetted at adding links to external
sites, we could limit external links to a group of users, e.g. the ones
who have been autoconfirmed (i.e. active for a certain amount of days
and having made several edits already). I've found one extension to do
 so on http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:NotEvil

I am not sure how much enforcing #2 would limit legitimate users.
Basically, only new users would be affected (the spam seems to happen as
fire and forget), and it would take only a certain amount of days and
 edits to be autoconfirmed.

+1 for this one from my side. I don't think it will touch new 'real'
contributors so much. Most of the time they come to add or translate
content, not to put a link to another place.

Kind regards

that's indeed a problem - QuestyCaptcha does not offer localization at
 the moment. :-(

The alternative would be to completely lock down the wiki and move to
manual account approval. I'm honestly not sure which one is better...

Can't we use the same as wikipedia ?

It's already difficult to find contributors, so preventing them to

We tried Captchas some time ago, but the bots (or the cheap workers
mentioned by Florian) are easily able to mange them and we had much
 spam in that time.

Yes I remember, but I was not talking about Captchas, but about
translation ability of the subscription system.

So, what I have done is to remove the QuestyCaptcha and replaced it with
ReCaptcha again, to avoid problems with NLC projects. Let's see if this
brings in more spam again - QuestyCaptcha so far helped rather well.

Thanks a lot.

I also added some more extensions, we now have the same set of antispam
extensions as Wikipedia uses. I guess it's now on to sime more
fine-tuning. I read the MediaWiki antispam documentation about 9 months
ago, and had back then most of the things in it that they recommended.

I'll read through it again, chances are that since then some more best
practices came up that help in combatting spam.

ok

As last resort, we can always at least temporarily move to manual
account approval. This is tedious, but can come to rescue in case the
spam issues grow faster than we can act.

Well, I've stopped my contributions here, but if you need me again,
don't hesitate to ping me directly, I can work on the wiki early in the
morning.

I will keep you posted, and investigate further.

Thanks

I'm not a wiki markup expert, but while I was updating the page I was
asking myself if it might be worth to create a download template which
always point to the right Last and Stable versions.
 Could this be worth/doable?

If there's a desire to have a couple of templates, it's definitely
something we could create. The important part would be to make sure
that the templates get updated on a regular basis. We should check-in
with Petr (cc'd) and see what he thinks of the plan (and see if he'd
be willing to keep the download links up to date :-)

I am afraid that neither me, nor Thorsten, nor any single person, would
have time to update many localized pages one by one for each release. Or
do you plan to use a wiki trick, so it would be possible to update the
 version at one place?

Correct. We'd have a couple of pages like
 Template:StableReleaseLink
 Template:LatestReleaseLink

And the content of those pages could just be a link like
 [http://download.libreoffice.org/blah/blah/link LibreOffice 42.5.10]

which could be included on any page in the wiki like this:
 {{StableReleaseLink}}

Actually, for localization purposes it might be most effective to add
some parameters, so that the default text would be the current
version, but one could pass-in an alternate string if one wanted to
 have it display differently:
 {{StableReleaseLink|text=Please download the latest stable version here...}}

But I digress into implementation details...the important piece here
is that you (or Thorsten, or whomever) would only need to update the
content of the single template page :-)

But not all new versions are available in all languages. It should be
better that I ask the relevant NLP community imho or that I look in
Pootle for completed versions.

Kind regards
Sophie

Hmm...I haven't really considered that before, but that's a really good point.

To veer off into QA land briefly, what you're saying is that if
someone comes to us using LO 3.6.4 in Swahili and has a bug that's
been fixed in 4.0.3, if we tell them to grab 4.0.3 and test it out,
there might not be a Swahili language pack for that version. Darn!

If we can't centralize the download links for the current
stable/latest versions for all languages, would that work in perhaps a
majority of cases? Or to ask a related question: How many NLP's don't
push an updated localization for each point release of LO?

It depends on their resources. For example, if I don't update the FR
localization for 4.1, certainly somebody will jump in to update it to a
next version, but we can't be sure the one it will be.

Then for the balance of the NLP's (i.e. the ones that don't update the
localization for each new point release of LO), is there some other
mechanism we can employ to make sure that the download links on their
NLP pages stay current and don't become stale?

That should be done via the NL websites as most of them use the download
page template, see here
http://www.libreoffice.org/international-sites/
but the wiki is another area.

Sophie

imply more than a single template.

Anyhow, my preference would be to use the plural consistently

I have absolutely no preference between template/templates, what it
seems for the moment that it's more natural for wiki users to go to
template to create them, as there is more of them in that category. The
need really is to have only one place for all.

There is 2 categories for templates on the wiki:

not sure this is intended, but if the second one is dedicated to QA and
the BSA, that may be should be indicated somewhere so we don't mix the

 Yes, it is possible.
As there is quite a bit of text, I'm not sure whether it is better to

Yes agreed. Also, we should organize a workflow and document it on the

Small feedback from my side about it. When we were on OOo, the NLC did
have a multilanguages planet. That was said as is, and nobody never
complained about it. We did have a lot of post on several languages.
The option we have currently is
 - to post only in your language and choose to not be mirrored on the
 planet,
 - to post in English and be mirrored on the planet, but for sure be not
 read in your language,
From what I've seen, only one person complained about my post in French
on the planet, but several people are able to read French or English and
are happy with my post but are not able to post comments in a different
language. The later, however, doesn't seems to be an issue.
My proposal is with several options:
1- we have a NL planet, appearing in every languages and it will show
the diversity of our community on a dedicated channel of communication,
but never mixed with the international or official channel,
2- we do not allow anything but English on the planet, but the planet
will reflect the English speaking community only
3- we dedicate a TDF planet for official communication, to make sure
it's not diluted in a planet in several languages and dedicate a planet
 to whatever the language
4- we have a allmixed planet in whatever the language and level of
 communication.

My preference goes to 3 and 4.

In conclusion, if you want an English only planet, please remove my
thread because I'll go on publishing in English and French when I feel
 the needs :)

 Kind regards
 Sophie

Thanks for all of these suggestions. Here is an additional suggestion
 that I would add:

5- Have an official TDF planet for official communication, then have
planets for all languages (EN included) and make sure there are links
(right block) to nl planets. The planets will then look equal from the
visitor's perspective with no particular language being considered more
 important/elevated than the other.

 * EN as the official communications language for the project would be
 maintained.

 * we could try to find members who could lead their own particular nl
planets and get them to promote en encourage content from their own nl
 communities.

 * We could then work towards getting dedicated planet translator
members who would translate article of worth to their own nl language
 planets.

 * this would promote teamwork where the EN language barrier would be
 eliminated for the nl planets

It's a good idea, but -you know there is always a but ;-) if you read
the planet, currently this is mostly developers and TDF board members
who are posting on it. So before creating planets for each language,
having one containing all the languages would be enough and may be less
intimidating for non English bloggers. Once there is enough blogs
gathered on this one, we could of course enhance the process.
The choice for posting in the two languages was for less fragmentation,
but as it's not appropriate, let's have a dedicated planet for people
like me who wants to blog in whatever language, even if we touch a
smaller part of the community. If you read the comments on my blog, here
for example, language is not an issue when it's said ;)

specifically set up a Portuguese planet, asked for by Eliane.

Do you think a Planet that has a mixture of English, German, Portuguese,
Polish, Chinese, Japanese and Czech is helpful to anyone? I doubt it, I
think people won't read it at all. We've seen that when for the English
blog we posted one German note - people were rather upset. ;-)

But, since we are on the website mailing list, what do people think?
I am not vetoing, this was just my personal opinion, so if there's
positive feedback towards a multilanguagl Planet, why not?

Sophie

So, I'm only the messenger here, but Pierre-Yves uploaded the error

Import file error message :

It says that the odb file extension doesn't meet the MIME type

From what I see .odb is listed as an accepted file format though. Do you

How do you determine whether a bug is to be verified? Just has status
= resolved fixed?

Yes, I think so.

and remind me the command to ask to IZBot ?

The commands would be FreeDesktop loadsession queryID and then gf
to get one from freedesktop

I'll load that query, so it is ready to go with gf - The bot listens
to its nick as well as to the ! trigger, so writing !gf or ! gf is
just as good as writing IZBbot: gf

I was remembering the 'g' but not the 'f', thanks :)

would = since know it only knows one query, i have set it to resolved
fixed bugs in project LibreOffice.

But these can be changed of course/I can add other commands.

So: Feel free to use the gf command to get a randomly picked
resolved fixed bug.

If you want to have IZBot announce issues by itself, use
IZBot: Scheduler repeat AnnounceBug 1800 [echo gf]
That will make it call the gf command and print its result every 1800seconds

Thanks a lot, it's really great !!!

Cheers

[1] https://translations.documentfoundation.org/ja/website/

it is posible to translate the extensions and template site(s) to
Japanese. I think the source of the homepage is inside the LibreOffice
pootle server. But once the homepage is translated to a language and the
translation of Plone for that language is activated we get support
questions within that language from our users. I already get some
support requests in languages that I'm not familiar with. I try to get
the content of the message via google-translate, but that often doesn't
help me to understand the message. Thus I need a team of volunteers with
different language skills to whom I could forward this mails.

I'm quite sure that if you forward the request or ask for help in a
particular language on the l10n list, you'll have an answer and the
feedback you need.

In order to pursue some evaluation of the manual testing tools, we would
like to have a staging session of CaseConductor (also named MozTrap now)

It's a Django app and the code can be found here:
https://github.com/mozilla/caseconductor
Documentation on installation here:
http://moztrap.readthedocs.org/en/latest/
Would it be possible for the admin team to install this for QA and Dev

admin access?
I'm in contact with the Mozilla team developing this application since
quite some time now, so don't hesitate to ask me directly if you need
anything from them.

the closing of the cfp) or save it's text. Also the schedule of the

I propose for a wiki page, where we can collect all the requirements for our

I think it would help, if the teams from the last OOo/LibreOffice conferences
 would
jump in and share there thoughts / experience / needs.

Could you open the page on the wiki, I'll add my thoughts on it. If I
remember well, Drew has already made some tests of cms dedicated to
event organization.
What I was missing the most is an way to easily edit and make changes
to the program. Also an easy way to retrieve the subscribers list.

You can use the search with in the CMS for this. Search for pages with

not understand the problem at all. Sorry for the confusion.

Is there currently enough developing manpower to further improve the
project at a industrial pace? Have *all* *potential* external developers
(btw, how many are they and how many of them really contribute to the
project?) sufficiently knowledge about what help the *current*
developers need?

If the answer is yes to both questions, the developing part of LibO is
just perfect and we can delete any other mean of promotion for open dev
tasks/bugs.

I think there is a mentality difference between us: you spoke about
people that have *already* started working on the code while I speak
about people that haven't started, yet. The former ones are looking for
help to satisfy *their* own developing needs, the latter ones are
looking for help to satisfy the needs of the project.

However, maybe, I'm completely missing the point in your message,
because I suppose that *there are* developing needs of the project,
based on a engineering-driven model for developing LibO.

Am I wrong?

There are developing needs, for sure, but it's difficult to give
information to new comers without the direct input from the developers.
I think this is where Cor and your differences reside.
But I find your idea for an additional layer good. May be we can ask to
the students participating to the GSOC how they found there way and what
they miss? Even if it's a more structured experience than just a new
comer, it can help to underline the communication flows needed (or not).

repository in the official hierarchy active since April, without any
notifications to this list. I understand that the Steering Committee
must have had their good reasons for this silent development, but I
kind of expected that a new site development would have been announced
here.

it seems that it's just what Andreas did ;) Consider it like Litmus, we
test the tool, try some dev on it to make sure it's the one that will
satisfy our needs, a rough dev is first done and then presented to the
community to see if everything is ok. Coming with nothing imho always
lead to a lot of discussions without clearing or hurrying the
implementation.

Honestly I still like Thorsten Bosbach's new port of the existing
Templates/Extensions infrastructure more (and I wrote months ago that I
don't see the reasons for a dedicated LibreOffice extensions site, but
again I understand those who support this idea); you surely deserve to
be thanked for the effort, anyway, and I'm looking forward to seeing the
final result when the site is publicly announced!

So now that Andreas has announce it, please, don't hesitate to test and

it may goes slowly, but if he gets some help, every body will be happy :)

First that is a very rude reply

As rude as the attitude you have for other members of our community.

Second, I contribute to the this community as well as others you can check
the pootle system for example, if you said that you dont need my help here,
I wonder why the system took my contributions as well as any other

Oh, yes enough to say you represent everybody in the Spanish community

Third, I dont see where at your bylaws says, you may not contribute to any

Did I say that? No, read again : to take one line here and another on

Your way to act is well know and related at several places on the web

think we need your help here.

First that is a very rude reply

As rude as the attitude you have for other members of our community.

Rude as nothing close to the person I met in Italy and have a good
conversation about how to improve free software even after people egos get
in the way.

Second, I contribute to the this community as well as others you can check

the pootle system for example, if you said that you dont need my help
here,
I wonder why the system took my contributions as well as any other
contributer.

Oh, yes enough to say you represent everybody in the Spanish community and
direct them to *your* OOo community, prevent them to contribute to the
LibreOffice community to keep them under control.

I have never prevent anyone to contribute to any community. I only respond
to their questions on how to best contribute, which is not the same thing.

Third, I dont see where at your bylaws says, you may not contribute to

any
other project open or closed but this one.

Did I say that? No, read again : to take one line here and another on
the OOo lists.

Please let me know when did I do that? Althought even if I do took one line
and put it on another list, I dont see the crime there. I do have one brain,
so things that I might say on one list, I will also say in the other since
is the same way of thinking after all.

Your way to act is well know and related at several places on the web and
by a large part of the Spanish community who is *really* working in our
project now. And they don't need your double language here.

I actually don't know how well you know the way I act. I do participate in
several projects and have help many get to become. After all I have been
involved in free software for +10years.

Like you said, I know who is contributing and who is not. I can see it on
the feed of the systems. There is no mistery here. You can have one click to
view all my commits on pootle, wiki or git. So saying who contributes and
who doesn't is easy to view. Also you will see many on other projects like
OOo and see is the same nickname and people.

I won't lose my time to dig the web even if they are easy to find when
you speak Spanish a bit, just an example:

http://openoffice.org/projects/marketing/lists/dev/archive/2010-12/message/22
but we may find a lot in fact

May be we can ask Daniel, they are pushing the effort here to have
everything like the documentation project inside the project, strange
they don't want to use ODFAuthors site...

May be we can ask Jesús...
etc
etc
etc
Enough to end it here, thanks.

Kind regards

If these problems persist, I, for one, would be agreeable to going back
to closing down the wiki self account creation and having those
interested in contributing to the wiki having to request an account from
some of our admin members.

I prefer spending 15mn every day deleting the spam and blocking the

Yes, the impression that I am getting is that people who are more of
value to the project (Sophie, we need you elsewhere rather than just
policing the wiki and the same for all of the other experienced leads
and especially SC members doing the spam policing) are, sadly, using
their valuable time on these issues.

Thanks for the kind words Marc, but as I said, it's very little time to
give to it, so really not a big burden. I said 15mn, but I'm sure it's
more between 5 and 10 mn. And zero now that there is no more.

Maybe we should have a sub-group with proper wiki permissions taking up
the spam deletions? Unless the spam issues require special consideration
from the more experienced membership, maybe we should consider
delegating to other members?

any admin member can delete a page and we have several admins on the

Of course, we will make sure that it is *never* used as a localization

If so, should we put a link on the website, too?

I'd say that since the Alfresco repo sits on a LibreOffice subdomain
and is a resource at the service of the entire project, it merits
being listed in the top menu of the wiki, alongside Pootle, Litmus,
etc.

I've updated some relevant pages with links to the new Alfresco and
Litmus resources at [1], [2] and [3].

[1] http://www.libreoffice.org/get-involved/web-administrators/
[2] http://www.libreoffice.org/get-involved/localizers/
[3] http://www.libreoffice.org/get-involved/qa-testers/

Thanks to remove Litmus and ask the team in charge with the tool when
the information is relevant to be access. For the moment, it is not.
Also, please remove Alfresco as a localization tool, we will only loose
a lot of resources with 10n people using it for localization. Next time
ask the relevant team before adding information that may confuse the new
comers wishing to participate to this team.

Thanks in advance

Hi Sophie, :-)

Alfresco is now being investigated/adopted/possibly adopted by Spanish
and Brazilian team people, and I see that a space has also been
created for German content, too. So there is indeed some
uptake/interest among certain localizers. As such, I feel it does
merit listing with the other available resources.

Alfresco is a product with considerable potential, and I think it's
too early to have any reactionary negative attitudes to it. As with
the many other tools used for LibreOffice contribution, there is no
*obligation* to use it if you don't want to. But that doesn't mean we
have to conceal in from other contributors.

Does this seem like a reasonable standpoint?

You are mixing localization and documentation, please don't confuse
people on this point. We have no extra time to loose with all this,
thanks to understand it.

Couldn't you be a little more objective about it? ;-)

No, because we have no time to loose currently with all this. If you
