Re: [wsjt-devel] Q65 false decode

2023-04-16 Thread K9RX via wsjt-devel
Joe,

Thank you. Indeed I did not have auto clear turned on. I have always had it on
until recently. I had found, when Lance was trying out contest mode using your
new software for his trip, that I had decodes (average) when I had it turned
off (and no AVG DEC when on). NOTE this was while listening so I’m receiving a
decode most every even cycle from Lance but I also want to decode those calling
him (odd).

So – questions if I may please (I just re-read the manual to be clear this is
not addressed there):
1) Does average apply to each of multiple signals in the window?
2) Is there a separate average queue for 1st and 2nd sequence? (would be great
if RXing both looking for stns)
3) And if so if auto clear is on does it only clear the averages for those that
have now decoded or
4) if only one decode comes in and there are say 3 stations there (in the
averages)) do all the averages now get cleared out?

I assumed 4. Which is why I turned off auto clear since if it is 4 above it
would never do an averages if Lance always decoded. And as mentioned I went
from 0 averages in the AVG DEC window with it on to several ongoing with it
off.

Hi Gary and Don:

Those are not false decodes. They are not spurious decodes. Evidently
you have "Enable averaging" turned on, but not "Auto Clear Avg after
decode". And you did not do a "Clear Avg" manually. Not a good plan,
generally, for the type of operating you are doing. You must learn to
use these tools -- it's not all automated, nor could it be. The
operator is important, and must make informed choices.

Like all other settings, the "Save all" setting is specific to each
Configuration you have defined.

You can see below at 1303 I got, at -24, his RX3. WSJT started to send
TX4 at 1304. Then it (almost) immediately decoded his TX1 and WSJT
switched back to TX2. I did not catch this. The next sequence you can

finally you can see false (AVG) decodes at 1309 – 1317. He was not

Re: [wsjt-devel] Q65 false decode

2023-04-16 Thread K9RX via wsjt-devel
Indeed it is off. But I found that having it on meant not getting AVG decodes
when I was watching for Lance, W7GJ, do his thing testing out the contest mode.
I had more decodes with it off than with it on. But I’ll change it.

That does makes sense – since I hadn’t seen this before like this.

Hi Gary

What setting do you have for Auto clear avg after decode ( under the decode
tab)?

For normal operation this should be checked.  I suspect you have it unchecked,
so that messages which are still in the accumulator appear as 'fresh' decodes.
In such a case you can sometimes see decodes after the other station has
stopped transmitting.

[wsjt-devel] Q65 false decode

2023-04-16 Thread K9RX via wsjt-devel
Hello all.

I was running Q65-60A on 6M EME this morning. I am using version 2.6.0 b15b7. I
have DEEP and ENA AVG turned on. I decoded the station I was calling every
sequence. However twice WSJT decoded the “proper” signal (right doppler and
seq) but then decoded, in the AVG window, a 2nd that was one sequence
previously. Unfortunately I didn’t see that my TX then reverted back to the
original and was not the follow on (proper one).

This happened again the next sequence but I caught it that time. Unfortunately
I do not normally have SAVE turned on so I don’t have the data file.

I mentioned this as an FYI re false decodes. I don’t remember ever getting this
before (this version).

But I have a question: I have Q65-60A as a configuration and switch to it when
doing EME. Can I set the SAVE as on for this config and will it then be off for
the other configs I have built?

I have since turned on SAVE DECODED and finally you can see false (AVG) decodes
