Hi John,

Thanks for reporting this, I have added a suitable change for this
compile error. The change that caused it was Joe including some new
functionality for QRA mode to deal with fast fading. that used a header
file that had not been tested on Mac OS X.

2016-11-06 Thread John Nelson
Hi Bill and Steve,

I came across a problem after downloading r7295. Compile errror in normrnd.c
because rand_s being an undefined symbol.

—
#elif __APPLE__
// Mac OS, not sure if this is covered by __posix__ and/or __unix__
though...
#endif

#define rand_s(x) (*x)=(unsigned int)lrand48()  // returns unsigned integers in
the range 0..0x7FFF
#define K_RAND_MAX 0x7FFF  // that's the max number generated
by lrand48
—

I added the last two lines above in normrnd.c to get over the problem.I
can’t be certain what has changed (until recent upgrade of Xcode). What
should be in place at this point for __APPLE__?

Hi Keith and All,

For those who run on a Mac under OS X — in r7293 Bill has committed a fix for
the crash that is seen when running in JT65 and JT65+JT9 mode when
VHF/UHF/Microwave features is enabled. Please give it a try and let us know if
you encounter any other problems like this.

Thanks!

Hi Steven,

Thanks for confirming.

I have tested with “Enable VHF/UHF/Microwave features’ disabled - then don’t
get the crash.
I have always run with it enabled till now as my station is for 144MHz.

I see I lose ‘Sh; Submode; Sync; Clear Avg” when this is disabled.

[wsjt-devel] WSJT-X v1.7-rc2 UI nits ...

2016-11-03 Thread Black Michael
I sent this a few days ago...is there any interest in converting ALL the
tooltips to HTML?More future proofing than anything else. But I found other
tooltips that don't behave well when the tooltip size is 7.  e.g. Serial Port
on the Radio Settings. And setting the one to HTML does not fix it.That tooltip
shows up correctly when viewed in QT5.5 QtCreator (the text wraps) but not in
the compiled version. So this appears to be a Qt bug.
If I get some time I'll try and isolate this for a bug report and test QT 5.7
to see if it still misbehaves.

Attached patch converts all tooltips on the mainwindow to html. This fixes most
of the display problems that I was able to reproduce by reducing tooltip size
to 6 or 7 in the Advanced options.So...may as well change them all.
Also changed the Horizontal Policy on the FreeText field to Expanding which
fixed the display of the ToolTip.Without that QTCreator displayed the toolTip
correctly but it was horribly truncated on the side and bottom when compiled.

It appears to be because the typeface used for tooltips (and probably
menus) on my system is different than the one used on the devel
systems. Most likely because I had a non-standard typeface installed
before upgrading Windows 10.

In any case, I can resolve the truncation by adjusting the size of
the tool tip (Advanced sizing of text and other items) from 8 or 9
(default) to 10 or 11. I have never figured out how to change the
typeface under Windows 10 (it's not as easy as Windows 7 ).

In any case, I so rarely use Tool Tips that I'd prefer a setting to
disable them (as on some of my other software) .

2016-11-02 Thread Steven Franke
Hi Gary and Keith,

As noted earlier, I don’t see this problem on versions that I have built here
on OS X 10.11 and on MacOS 10.12.

Just now, I downloaded the official rc2 release from the link given in Joe’s
announcement email, and that version runs OK as well.

Perhaps it would be useful to see if your problem persists when you run the
program using a fresh .ini file. To test this, you’d need to move your old .ini
out of the way by renaming it to, say, WSJT-X.ini.save. You’d also need to
re-enter the necessary information in the Preferences section.

Re: [wsjt-devel] WSJT-X v1.7-rc2

2016-11-02 Thread Keith Laaks
Hi Gary,

I can confirm that I have the exact same issue on rc2.
Just to be sure that this was not somehow linked to any MACOS system updates, I
installed an earlier version I still have the binary for (v1.7.0-rc1 r7152) -
it runs perfectly on JT65, with the ‘DECODE’ flashing very quickly (not even a
second) at the 50 second mark.

On the rc2 (v.1.7.0-rc2 r7279-dirty) at the end of the first full sequence
received, the ‘DECODE’ comes on and stays on for a long time, even into the
next sequence. Then only goes off. But at the very next 50 seconds mark, it
throws this error:

Subprocess Error:
Running: /Applications/wsjtx.app/Contents/MacOS/jt9 -s WSJT-X -w 1 -m 3 -e
/Applications/wsjtx.app/Contents/MacOS -a "/Users/keithl/Library/Application
Support/WSJT-X" -t /var/folders/h2/3qh2zy1n5vz72tlzx8tc01j8gn/T/WSJT-X
Process crashed

Its a little random. Sometimes it throws this error the very first time wsjtx
attempts to decode.

Just tested latest rc2 r7280 and it also throws the same error.

I am not sure how to turn on debugging during the build process to see whats
cutting here.
Something must have changed in the JT9 code between r7152 and r7279 thats
breaking now.

Re: [wsjt-devel] WSJT-X v1.7-rc2

2016-11-01 Thread Ulderico Arcidiaco
Gary,

just remove the leading $ character before the sysctl command. The $ in the
command line that you copied is the console prompt, not part of the command.

But $ is also used to represent variables in Unix, so $sysctl assumes a
completely different meaning. Because the $sysctl variable doesn't exist, it is
translated into an empty string and skipped. The next thing in line would then
be "-A", that would be treated as if it was a command, a non-existent command
for that matter, hence the "-A: command not found" error message.

Hi Gary and Bill,

I’ve been building and running without problems on both 10.11 and 10.12.

Perhaps it’s worth noting that when I recently build wsjt-x for the first time
on a new machine, I had to increase the shared memory allocation in order to
get it to run. I think that the default allocation was about 4MB and I
increased it to 32MB. I wonder if this could be causing Gary’s problem?

Here’s what I have now on the Mac that is connected to my rig:

$sysctl -A | grep shmmax
kern.sysv.shmmax: 33554432

Hi Pino,

the Debian and RPM packages we supply with releases are built on the
latest stable releases of Ubuntu and Fedora. These are chosen because
they have reasonably large user bases. For WSJT-X v.1.70-rc2 Ubuntu
16.04 LTS and Fedora 24 were the versions used. These packages will work
on those systems but may well not work on other distributions or versions.

If you are not running one of those two then you will either have to
wait for a package manager to package WSJT-X v1.7.0-rc2 for your
distribution or build from source yourself. We do provide a source tar
ball including instructions that should be adaptable for all recent
Linux distributions as part of the release.

Ubuntu 14.04 offers libgomp1 version 4.8.4-2 from the security
repo, Ubuntu 16.04 offers version 5.4.0-6 from the updates repo.

There is a toolchain test PPA
(https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-toolchain-r/+archive/ubuntu/test
)
which offers gcc-6, which, according to
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gcc-6, should include an updated
version of GOMP. Personally, I'd never dream of installing such a
toolchain on a generally operational system. If installing GCC 4.9 is
all that's required, then this may help
http://askubuntu.com/questions/428198/getting-installing-gcc-g-4-9-on-ubuntu#456849.
*Warning:* I've not tried updating to gcc4.9 (or 6), nor do I intend to!

One provisionally concludes that Joe is using a GCC >4.8.

Pino,

Try googling for the library and look for a response from the Ubuntu wiki
collection. I have found many prereqs for other projects that way. It
seems many packages do not always populate Synaptic or Software manager
with very latest libraries. However, there is no guarantee you won't run
into other incompatibilities or preqs for THAT library.

I have been running JTSDK on mint 17.3 Cinnamon FB for several builds inclu
1.7.0 rc2 I'll also be trying the new 18 Sarah Mate later this week so
stay in touch if any of that is interesting enough to consider a Mint
upgrade. .

[wsjt-devel] WSJT-X v1.7-rc2

2016-10-29 Thread Joe Taylor
Deal Colleagues,

Thanks to all coders, bug reporters, and testers for helping us to get
WSJT-X v1.7 into good shape! The program still has a few known
shortcomings, but they are relatively minor. The time seems right for a
second candidate release.

The following notice will be sent soon to the wsjtgroup reflector.

-- 73, Joe, K1JT

To: Users of WSJT-X

The WSJT Development Group is pleased to announce a candidate release of
WSJT-X Version 1.7.0. This is a beta release; most program features
have been tested in the field already by more than 50 users.

A short list of new features and capabilities can be found in the
section "New in Version 1.7" of the new WSJT-X User Guide:
http://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/wsjtx-doc/wsjtx-main-1.7.0-rc2.html#NEW_FEATURES

and also here:
http://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/Release_Notice.txt

If you are willing and able to help us with reports and feedback on
program behavior, we encourage you to upgrade to this release now. When
any reported bugs have been fixed, a slightly amended Version 1.7.0 will
soon become the standard "General Availability" release of WSJT-X.

Reports should be sent to the email list wsjtgr...@yahoogroups.com or
wsjt-devel@lists.sourceforge.net.

Be sure to read the extensively updated WSJT-X v1.7 User Guide.
Please send corrections and suggestions for its improvement to this
email list, or to K1JT.

A detailed log of program changes since v1.6 is available here:
http://physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/wsjtx-1.7.0.log

Upgrading from Version 1.4, 1.5, or 1.6 will be seamless. There is no
need to uninstall a previous version or to move any files.

Installation packages for Windows, Linux, and OS X can
be downloaded from the following links:
