Thanks for all your hard work Jaap and other major contributors.

All: I'll work on doing the Windows build some time in the next couple of
weeks. I'm particularly interested in seeing if I can get gtkspellchek to work
with the whole packaging stack but it might take a few days. (Or it might be
dead simple.)

Feel free to bug me if two weeks have gone by and I haven't done the Windows
release yet. (I'll do 0.65 with the needed bug fix mentioned in a separate
thread and skip 0.64.)

I have reinstalled Zim using the deb package from the Zim website, which solved

software sources and checked for updates. None, so are the deb file that can be

thank you for letting me know. It was quite a stupid bug ;) PSA a new version
which works if you start the plugin with or without selecting a tag.

I find it quite convenient to double click on the tag I want to look up. This
usually marks the whole tag. Then pressing SHIFT+ALT+Q brings up the plugin
with the tag already looked up.

Just FYI. The plugin is also available via search menu and task bar.

[Zim-wiki] Shared Notebook with several users

2015-09-21 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Hi,

I know that this topic has been discussed already, but I couldn't find anything
useful.

I'd like to try this use case:

· Notebook is stored on a network share (set as shared notebook)

· Several users access the notebook at the same time (all users are
Windows users)

Do I need to have any versioning tool running at each user's Windows system to
get a good user experience
on changes of notes at the same time?

Is there anything else I need to consider?

Hoping that anyone has already set this up and running

Thank you.

Re: [Zim-wiki] Delete Namespace

2015-09-17 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Hi,

just my few cents on this.

I understand that the name of the note is the same as the file name.

What if you introduce a Unique ID (UID) for each note which you add as pre- or
suffix to the file name?
You could put this UID into the header of the file e.g. after Creation-Date, as
well.

If you add the UID into a separate tree column (column not shown), you could
show notes which seem to have the same name, but
are obviously distinguished via the UID.

So any notes which should be archived, can be moved to an ‘archived namespace’
without the need to rename them. I’m not sure
how this conflicts with your current name space hierarchy, but I guess you
would need to add this UID as a property to a page as well.

So instead of having:
This is my parent note:Here goes my first child:And here is a sub of my child

You could go with:

UID1:This is my parent note:UID2:Here goes my first child:UID3:And here is a
sub of my child

Haven’t thought all implications through though….

Murat

Subject: Re: [Zim-wiki] Delete Namespace

Reading over the comments here my proposal would be as follows:
On archive the page (+ subpages + attachments) is renamed to
:Archive:parent:page_mmdd(_n)
The "_n" is only used in case this page already exists (because you archived
the same page twice on the same day ?).

The date is added to the actual page you archived. Sub-pages remain unaltered.
Parents are by definition namespaces with pages but no content of their
own. This means that the trunk of the archive reflects the notebook structure
while actual archived pages form timestamped branches.
Only conflict I see is when you have pages in your regular notebook that
already end in "mmdd". E.g. archiving a sub-page below a parent with such a
name will confuse the archive structure. Question is how to address that
concern.

One option would be to make the archive timestamp more distinct, e.g. prefixing
it with a capital "A". The issue thus remains but becomes more obscure.
Alternative would be to also create a meta-data file that identifies a page as
being an archived page and contain the original file name + archive date. That
would make it fully robust, but at the cost of more complexity in the file
structure. (Btw. this is the way the trash can works on linux systems, so it is
a proven concept)

My preference is to not go in the direction of more meta-data for the archive,
and rely on convention only. But maybe it is wise to use the special prefix.
This make a convention that a file ending in "_Ammdd" (literal "A", y, m &
d to be replaced by date) is interpreted as an archived file.

Anything I overlook ?

Jaap

Although it starts to feel like a versioning plugin...

We're discussing here a nonstandard situation - how many times you recreate a
re-archive a page? The versioning principle is a fallback. Usually you have
Page A, Page B, Page A:Subpage A etc. There are no conflicts when moving them
around, they have unique names.

Archiving is moving. In case there's an existing page in target namespace you
are prompted what to do. Archiving function will decide for you - it'll create
a time namespace. Renaming the page would break up the links.

My page is a client project. Subpages, folders, files (documents, images). When
I close the project, I archive it. Later if there's another business with the
same client, I create a page with the same [client] name. When archiving it, I
don't want it to mix up with previous archived page with the same name. So the
time name space is the solution. We don't change content, we create metadata.
And I can see my work for the client in a chronological view.

Re: [Zim-wiki] Where I install ditaa plugin ?

2015-08-10 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Hi,

this is indeed a bit confusing.

1. to get Ditaa to work, you need to download ditaa from here first:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ditaa/
-- I suggest to extract the content of the zipfile rather to c:\tools\ditaa
then into Program Files….

2. You need to install Java for Windows (which you probably already have)

3. As you are using the portable Zim version, Dita seems not be
activatable in the plugins menu, even if you add c:\tools\ditaa into PATH

You can’t find the ditaaeditor.py file within the portable zim version, as it
is only available in the source packages.

4. I attached the ditaeditor.py file, already changed the dotcmd entry
pointing to c:\tools\ditaa

5. Save this file into %appdata% \zim\data\zim\plugins\

6. Activate in plugins within Zim

7. Start from Insert menu

Murat

If a plugin is distributed as a separate python module, it should be installed

Python's per user site-package directory.

For example for python 2.6 this folder is:

2. Edit C:\Program Files (x86)\Zim Desktop Wiki\zim\plugins\ditaaeditor.py file
in a text-editor (notepad, for example):

Find an comment (or delete) next line (somewhere in the top of the file):

dotcmd = ('ditaa')

replace it or add to the next line:

dotcmd = ('java -jar C:\\Program Files

[Zim-wiki] New Plugin: Text2Tag

2015-08-06 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Dear all,

I'm about to release a new plugin which helps formatting text to tags.

The idea to this plugin was born out of the need that whenever I have a meeting
with a large number
of participants, it was quite an effort to add all participants as tags (people
tag) into my meeting notes,
even by using my auto completion plugin ;)

Usually, I open the MS Outlook invitation, switch to scheduling assistant and
then copy the list of all attendees into the zim page.

Then I get such a list:
Güven, Ugur Murat;Doe, John;Doe, Jane; and many more;

As my people tags have this pattern @LastnameFirstname I was able to do a quick
hack by using the linesorting plugin
(thanks to Norfcran for the plugin), which worked quite ok.

As you can see, even my full name does not fit into that pattern, as I have a
middle name ;). In addition, some entries had additional information
in brackets next to the name - Doe, John (Whatever).

Then I thought: 'What if others have other data, where the delimiter is not
semicolon?'

Long story short:

· You are able to select the delimiter

· Set the source and the destination pattern

· Set filters to remove anything from the tags

· compare the data with existing tags and select similar instead

The current implementation allows this:

Source pattern: %Ln%, %Fn%, %Mn% (- free to use any
delimiter, free to use any text in between %%, pattern needs to reflect the
source data's pattern)
Target pattern: %Ln%%Fn% (- free to use
order, free to use any delimiter which Zim allows, text used between %% needs
to be the same as in source pattern)

As I'm in the final stage, I'd like to know what the pattern of your tags look
like?
Will this implementation fit to your pattern of tags?

Regards,
Murat

Hi.
How do you explain zim other people?
I've found zim late in 2013. After a short test phase and personal approval my
personal knowledge management has completely migrated to zim quickly and
improved this topic from start a lot.Now zim is known to and applied by quite a
few of my work mates. It has been recognized to be useful for a shared
knowledge base in a team. Knowledge may be handled in a distributed version
control system (e.g. git) the same way as the software itself. This way the
originally two conflicting aspects of 1) a local Desktop Wiki and 2)
distributed synchronizationare in complete harmony with each other.
Now, to repeatedly explain zim is time consuming. And, because I'm willing to
create screencasts for customer support and training I decided to take zim for
an exercise to create my very first video tutorial. The result is uploaded to

[Zim-wiki] Custom tool: whiteboard cleaner

2015-08-06 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Hi,

just want to share this with you...

When I have a meeting I like to draw on the whiteboard and take a photo from
the board.
And of course I add this picture into Zim for documentation :)

I stumbled into this:

https://gist.github.com/lelandbatey/8677901

My Zim implementation:

· I installed ImageMagick to c:\Tools\ImageMagick

· Added C:\Tools\ImageMagick\ to PATH

· Created this batch file wbclean.bat

mkdir %1\tmp_dir

cd %1
FOR %%A IN (*.jpg *.gif *.png) DO (
copy %%A tmp_dir
)

FOR %%A IN (*.jpg *.gif *.png) DO (
rename %%A orig_%%A
)

cd %1\tmp_dir
FOR %%A IN (*.jpg *.gif *.png) DO (
convert %%A -morphology Convolve DoG:15,100,0 -negate -normalize -channel
RBG -level 60%%,91%%,0.1 -resize 50%% %%A
)
copy *.* %1\*.*
cd %1
del /q /s /f %1\tmp_dir
rmdir %1\tmp_dir

· Created a custom tool entry

o Name: Convert Images 50%

o Command: C:\Tools\ImageMagick\wbclean.bat %d

When you start this custom tool on your note with a picture, it converts the
picture and resizes it (original picture is backed up).

Have fun!

Murat

Re: [Zim-wiki] Custom plugins installation

2015-07-08 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Hi Jakub,

thank you for the update. Please let me summarize my findings (as a Windows 8.1
64 Bit User) so far:

· I downloaded and installed Graphviz for Windows from
http://www.graphviz.org : ok

· You need to add the Graphviz bin path to the PATH variable, which is
mentioned on the download page for Graphviz: ok

· Double check with Diagram plugin if Graphviz works: ok

· I installed pydot with easy_install.exe: ok

· pydot issues:

o import pydot does not work, therefore you can’t enable the plugin in Zim

o Found this:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/15951748/pydot-and-graphviz-error-couldnt-import-dot-parser-loading-of-dot-files-will

o Uninstalled pyparsing and installed older version

o import pydot works: ok

· When I start your plugin, I get the same Dialog as for the
diagrameditor.: ok

o Trying to Preview gives following errors:

§ global name ‘pydot’ is not defined -- somehow the import pydot did not work
Did a manual ‘import pydot’ in Python interpreter: ok

§ Added Import pydot to the import statements: ok

· If I’m not mistaken, you need Graphviz as well. Therefore I suggest
to change the check_dependencies method slightly like following:
@classmethod
 def check_dependencies(klass):
has_dotcmd = Application(dotcmd).tryexec()
has_dotmod = True
try:
import pydot
except ImportError:
has_dotmod = False
return (has_dotmod and has_dotcmd), \
[(pydot, has_dotmod, True), (GraphViz, has_dotcmd, True)]

· Finally your plugin worked and looks great!

· I found following issue:

o If you add a blank line without adding anything (but with a tab), you get
an error ‘InvocationException’ -- syntax error in line 10 near ‘[‘
maybe you want to make sure that there is not empty line with a tab

Please find attached the modified version.

Thank you for this very nice plugin!

Regards,
Murat

Dear All,
I have tried to adjust the plugin and tested on Window 8.1 and Linux Debian
(Jessie) with ZIM-Wiki version 0.63 (source) and Python 2.7. There was an issue
with the text variable passed and import of pydot module caused that the plugin
was not present on the list since it failed on import. The plugin is available
from a BUG page https://bugs.launchpad.net/zim/+bug/1472408 as a file
(suggested by Murat Güvenhttps://launchpad.net/%7Emurat-gueven), the plugin
page has been also updated with a link to the plugin.

It was slightly complicated to install the module pydot on Windows machine, but
easy_install utility limited the procedure to few lines:
Firstly I downloaded the installation script of easy_install from
https://bootstrap.pypa.io/ez_setup.py and executed with installed python 2.7
compiler. The installation script is described in more details on
https://pypi.python.org/pypi/setuptools. Secondly the dydot can be installed by
the following command:
C:\Python27\Scripts\easy_install.exe pydot
With Linux it was simple, the Debian repository provides python-pydot package,
which can be installed through command:
# apt-get install python-pydot

After all the ZIM-Wiki running from code should provide the treemap plugin on
the list of plugins and it should be possible to activate it as far as
dependencies are fulfilled.
Hope this helps.
All the best,
Jakub

On the other other hand ZIM version 0.63 generates the graph image correctly.

Hi NorfCran,

I was going to try out your plugin as well, but it does not work if you
copy/paste from the wiki page due to wrong indentation as you stated.
I must admit that I’m too lazy to correct each line. Or do you have a quick
procedure on how to correct wrong indentation?

May be you can provide the plugin in the manner I provided my plugins? See this
as an example:
https://github.com/jaap-karssenberg/zim-wiki/wiki/Autocompletion-Plugin

· First create a Feature request as a bug

· then attach the working py file to the bug

· Link to the file in the wiki page

I was wondering if your plugin could be used to display the relation of pages
to each other (not that I have a concrete use case out of it, just
out of curiosity how that picture could look like).

Murat

it is great to have a feedback from somebody, who intends to use the plugin. I

Re: [Zim-wiki] Use Case: Manage daily tasks

2015-06-25 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Svenn,

thank you for sharing your thoughts too :) They gave me a great insight and
more ideas on how to use and improve Zim ☺

The day I gave up putting due dates in the future on my tasks, my life with
Zim became less date maintenance and more productive work.

I tend to agree with you 100%. But I still use due dates which help me
prioritizing the tasks which are urgent and / or important ;)

[…]

In the task list field 'Labels marking tasks' I usually add 'MAYBE' as a task
tag (not using @maybe as that pollutes my tag space)
When the Journal plugin is enabled, I just hit alt-d and write on that page:

alt-d doesn’t work for me as this is assigned to the Files menu (German
language). I need to use the menu or change the key binding.

* MAYBE Look into that web page describing how to turn a foo into a bar.
This will show up in the task list under MAYBE and the page name will be the
date when I put it in.

I must admit I haven’t used additional labels to mark tasks other than TODO.
But I get your point. Instead of using a tag _DAILY it could be a label DAILY
for daily tasks.

If I happen to want that maybe to go away from the task list either because I
have done it or I don't want to be bothered, I go to the page and apply strike
format to MAYBE. It goes away from the task list, but stays in my notebook in
case I ever do a
search for foo or bar.

I like to think that things that once were important, will be important
again, so I never delete anything if I can help it. Just hide it a bit by
striking it out.

I prefer to use the brackets for tasks instead of the bullet point as it gives
me more convenience when ticking or striking a task.

On topic pages, I sometimes put in FIXMEs (must happen soon), TODOs (should be
done) and MAYBEs (done at my own discretion) in nested list.

* TODO [d:2015-06-23] Write a serious document about my revolutionary zim
use-case
* TODO [d:2015-06-24] Try out some of Murat's plug-ins

You should try the due date plugin ;)

Show up as nested todos in the task list.

Unfortunately the task list plugin doesn’t parse tasks with labels the same way
as with tags when it comes to nesting.

For instance:

TODO: @daily
[ ] this is a task 2
[ ] this is another 2

This is shown as nested list for the tag @daily, but not for the label TODO

*TODO this is a task 2 @daily
* TODO this is another task 2 @daily

This is shown as nested list for the tag @daily and for the label TODO

MAYBE: @daily
[ ] this is a task 3
[ ] this is another 3

This is shown as nested list for the tag @daily, but not for the label MAYBE

* MAYBE: this is a task 3
 * MAYBE: this is another 3

This is shown as nested list for the tag @daily and for the label MAYBE

Either this is a bug, or the parser needs review ;)

I keep separate topic pages for each project I work on. If I do something
notable on a task, I hit alt-d to bring up a journal page of today, and pull
in a back-link from the project topic page and start typing my findings.
If I happen to do something revolutionary on another task, I pull a link from
that page also, separating tasks with a few newlines.
Now the project topic page will have backlinks to each day with notable
findings. By opening the backlinks in tear-off mode, I can walk through my
jottings on the project in a comfortable manner.
This work habit has lead to opening a journal page for each day just to
document which project I am working on, even if I don't have so much to write.
There is always something to note down.

I like the basic idea of yours to add comments into the journal. How do you
‘pull a link’? Drag and drop with the mouse or use CTRL-L?
Where are your tasks located? Within the topic pages or within the journal
pages? I have never used the ‘search backlinks’ search, I must admit, but it is
quite handy in the way you use it.

What I find a bit bumpy is that you need to look for backlinks to a specific
task (assuming that you locate your task in the topic pages) to find all your
comments. What I’m trying to do is to have a complete task log per task which is
also shown in the task list plugin.

Regards,
Murat

[Zim-wiki] Use Case: Manage daily tasks

2015-06-24 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Hi,

I'd like to share my thoughts with you with regards to daily tasks.

Those of you who already use Zim for task management are aware of the great
feature of adding
a task quite easily by adding brackets () in front of a text.

Together with tagging, a due date and a priority which you can add to tasks you
can then perfectly manage
your task with the task list plugin as the task list plugin gathers all task
spread all over all pages into one view.

If these pages are related to topics this is all great to use. What if you have
a task which you can't assign to an existing topic and
it is not worth creating a page for it?

Please try following then:

· First you need to activate the Journal plugin (I suggest to use days
and show the calendar) once

· Each time you have a task which you can't do right away, select the
day within the calendar by when you want to do the task

o A new page is created with the day number below the months below the year

o Within this page add this:

TODO: @_DailyTasks

() This is my task which has no direct topic but needs to be done @Murat

() This is another task which I have to do at the same day @Murat

So far so good. Why is this use case worth mentioning ?

First of all, when you start the tasklist plugin and look for the _DailyTasks
tag, you will see all your daily tasks with the page names which are basically
the due dates.

Secondly if you haven't managed to do the tasks at the due dates, you can
easily move the overdue tasks by selection the whole text (including TODO:...)
and

right click the mouse and select 'move selected text'. Type in the
Year:Month:Day into the dialog to which you want to move the tasks to (click
add link if you want to keep the original day).

This gives me a new idea for a plugin which helps you moving all tasks in the
Journal which are due to a given new page(date) :)

Have fun!

Murat

Re: [Zim-wiki] Debugging Zim, especially plugins/PyCharm IDE

2015-05-22 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Hi Udo,

while playing around with Visual Studio Community Edition with Python Tools I
found out how you can debug
your code by using the debugger.

You need to set some break points, then run your program as python script (so
for Zim it does not work if you use the Windows version, you need to really run
the Python script),
and then select 'attach to process' and select the right process to attach the
debugger to.

When you use the function / code part of your script in which you have set the
break point, the debugger will halt the script and let you debug.

Murat

[Zim-wiki] Update to Search tagged pages plugin

2015-05-22 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Hi,

I updated this plugin and added following value add / use case to it.

Use Case:
You want to link pages which have a topic in common within your current page.
As you have tagged these pages with the
same tag, you can use the tag to identify these pages.

So instead of manually searching through your pages and manually adding the
dedicated pages as links you can use this plugin and
down select all pages according to given tags and paste the result into the
current page.

So the result will be as an example:

Pages with following tag(s) in common
Tag1 , Tag2, Tag3
Project:Note1
Project:Note2
Inbox:Misc:Note3

[Zim-wiki] Mailbox access via Python

2015-05-07 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Hi,

I wonder if anyone has tried to access a mailbox (IMAP or MS Exchange) with a
Python script?

I'm brainstorming the following use case:

Tasks within Zim can be sent via mail (already possible). The recipient can
reply to the mail and tick marks a task by adding an x into the task brackets:

[x] this is a ticked task [d:2015-05-07] @Murat

Zim polls the mailbox and checks for ZIM mails with ticked tasks and if found,
tick marks them within the Zim db and adds the body of the mail
into the note under the ticked task in this format:
[2015-05-07: note: 'here goes the mail body']

What do you think?

Hello

I just discovered Zim; I've been looking for an open-source replacement to
Evernote and something that I can use natively on all my linux desktops; Zim
looks fantastic!

I was wondering, however if it is being maintained and if it will remain an
active project? Unfortunately, I have no coding skills or anyway to give back
in that way, but I always monetarily support open-source projects that I end up
using in my day-to-day work, so I would do the same if Zim ends up being my

That's it! - just wanted to know if I'm getting into something that will be

Thank you,

004-0030-ProjectC

… using the pre-fix numbers for sorting.

So putting this together means that I would need the possibility to sort

· according to creation date

· setting the position manually

2/ If so, where do you click to switch between custom ordering and alphabetic
ordering ? And how this switch affect sub-sections ?

Basically I need to have the option per parent note to make child notes sorted
against. So, right-clicking on the parent note should show a popup menu

In above example I would sort manually:

004-0010-ProjectA

001-Information-ProjectA

002-Tasks-ProjectA

003-Meetings-ProjectA

003-OngoingTopics-ProjectA

These should be sorted against creation date:

003-Meetings-ProjectA

M001-DATE-ProjectA

M002-DATE-ProjectA

M003-DATE-ProjectA

3/ When index has custom ordering, where do new pages show up - at the end, in
the front, other position ?

According to the selected option in parent note. There could be an exception
though --

5/ ... what did I not think of yet ... ?

If camel case creation is switched on, the notes which are created
automatically need to be placed as child notes and should be sorted
alphabetically as standard.

4/ Should custom sorting depend on list of links in parent page ? (Either by
default or as a plugin)

That is a nice idea. On the one hand it could make it easier for the user to
find the notes in the index if the index order follows the order in the note,
but on the other hand, if the
links are not in a list within a note, I don’t see a direct visual connection
to the index order and to the order within the note.

--

5/ ... what did I not think of yet ... ?

I often use parent notes as ‘folders’ with little or no content. Such ‘special’
notes could have the option to have the sub-notes listed as links (basically
your idea at 4/ with an addition)

Thank you and Regards,
Murat

Re: [Zim-wiki] Re-ordering the index / custom sorting

2015-02-18 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Hi,

@Davi
Then I would hide the index and just use a flat notebook structure
This is the idea of tagging notes to find the info you need ;)
A more prominent search box with find-as-you-type and partial results in a
popover
Not that sophisticated, but that’s why I build the ‘Search tagged pages’ plugin

@S.Mubashir
Mr. Ugur Murat's method is a little laborious, needs foresight and such
disciplined notebook looks super-human to me.
Thanks, but I’m not super-human ☺

It is indeed a matter of how to find your information. These two are the
extremes: You create your notes in a flat structure or you go with a total
hierarchy

· The flat structure doesn’t work at all without tagging. But here you
are structuring again with your tags ;)

· The total hierarchy only doesn’t work in my eyes, too as you will
find yourself adding another parent and another parent as your information does
not fit into existing.

So my way is to mix both. Have a hierarchy and use tags. If an information does
not fit to my structure and I don’t see it being a general topic with more
information to come, then this
information ends up into the inbox with some tags I find useful (just to find
that information again ;) )

Murat

Subject: [Zim-wiki] Re-ordering the index / custom sorting

Hi people,

Personally, I would prefer instead that more emphasis would be given to search
instead of an index structure, as it is with Web Wikis. A more prominent search
box with find-as-you-type and partial results in a popover :). Then I would
hide the index and just use a flat notebook structure. I tend to prefer linking
and tags instead of hierarchies to set relationships among pages. Well, just my
almost off-topic two cents, based on my personal experience.

To the problem at hand tho: I think it would be a good compromise between
customization and simplicity to allow drag'n'drop (with some keyboard
equivalent) for reordering, but give context-menu actions to sort by some
criteria (e.g. alphabetically, by creation date, etc.). Those actions are
instant, though: they simply pass through the selected pages sorting
everything. This way you avoid maintaining different modes, while keeping it
relatively easy for people to go either sorted or custom.

Best regards,
Davi.

* Let the current alphabetical sorting remain.
* For anyone who wants to re-order, as per their preference, a key-binding
can be given. For example, in MS-Word, the key-sequence [Shift+Alt+Up] or
[Shift+Alt+Down} can rearrange paragraphs. The OpenOffice/ LibreOffice
Key-Binding is different and probably [Ctrl+Alt+Up/ Down]; I am not sure of the
latter because I always change it to [Ctrl+Up or Ctrl+Down] on all PC/ laptop I
use.

I depend on this key-binding for its simplicity, power convenience. Mr. Ugur
Murat's method is a little laborious, needs foresight and such disciplined
notebook looks super-human to me.

My special (earnest) request is that the key-binding (for page-promotion/
demotion) should also be applicable to paragraphs (promotion/ demotion) within
the page, and if you do that, Zim will become an exceptional text-editor. For
regular use one won't need the Word Processor, until printing the page becomes
important.

Anyway, what I'd like is a panel that shows the current hierarchy of pages

I’m not sure if I’m missing a point here, but why don’t you switch the panel to

Not sure what the English Menu is named, but try View menu -- Path panel --

Colin:[… ]Ugur Murat wants it and has done coding in related areas so I've

for tasks to assign to people.

What I could imagine is to have the tags symbol to be a setting in preferences,
but changing the tag symbol is not that
easy, as far as I can see.

Paul:Each time I paste into Zim a string containing @, it handles that string

Currently I can see only a workaround, replacing the @ sign by anything else,

Re: [Zim-wiki] Fwd: Index structure - how efficient?

2015-01-26 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
How do you handle meeting notes?

Below each project I add new notes for each meeting following this naming
convention:
M###-DATE-projectname with ### as a continuous number

I do use the task list plugin, but since many of my to-dos don't belong to a
project
(I'm too lazy to be strict with GTD, like I mentioned), I prefer to write
them under one single page.

This gave me the trigger (thank you for that) to enhance my structure. I added
002-Information-ProjectA
003-Tasks-ProjectA

The complete structure is now:
004Projects
004-0010-ProjectA
001-OngoingTopics- ProjectA
002-Information-ProjectA
003-Tasks-ProjectA
M001-DATE-ProjectA
M002-DATE-ProjectA
M003-DATE-ProjectA
004-0020-ProjectB
004-0030-ProjectC

This gave me an idea for a plugin, kind of a 'create notes skeleton' which
creates a pre-defined sub structure with notes on a right click.
For me it would then create:
001-OngoingTopics- ProjectA
002-Information-ProjectA
003-Tasks-ProjectA

What do you think?

Murat

RM001-DATE-RegularMeetingA
RM002-DATE-RegularMeetingA

M001-DATE-ProjectA
M002-DATE-ProjectA
M003-DATE-ProjectA
004-0020-ProjectB
004-0030-ProjectC

-- I mostly use tags within the notes to further differentiate and search/find
the right notes
-- I link between notes in Meetings and Ongoing Topics and vice versa if a

Do you have any structure below your client projects? How do you handle meeting

To-do is a list of actions I need to do [...]

That is surprising for me. So I take it that you don't use the task list plugin?
Is this a continuing list of to-do's with client specific tags?

But this doesn’t work for existing text, I think.
It does for me. If the list is long, it is probably easier to use the
bullet/numbered/checkbox option under the format menu

How? If I have a text and mark it, I can’t just press 1. or () to format the

I will look into the possibility to put formatting options into the popup menu

[Zim-wiki] task list with auto completion entry for filtering

2014-07-29 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Hi,

I use tagging quite a lot within my pages and use Zim also for taskmanagement.
One of my favorite plugin is the tasklist plugin.

As I have many tags, it is somewhat less effective for me to scroll through the
tags list on the left pane and click to filter the task list.

I think, an entry box on top with auto completion for tags could be a quicker
solution to filter the list.

I adapted the current tasklist plugin to support this feature in addition.

Any comments are welcome.

Hi,

In that thread you mentioned Workflowy having both @ and # tags, which is
something I'd love to have in Zim.
It seems like it should be easy to do as a little plugin, but I'm not a
programmer* so maybe not.
Yes, me, too ☺
What I have seen so far, this needs some restructuring in the tags plugin, the
tasklist plugin and the main pageview incl. some database changes.
I will try to take care of it when I’ve completed the autocompletion plugin
hoping that I’ve understood Python and the Zim structure good enough to manage
that ;)

I'd also love to see previews in tag searches (for example of the line the
tag is on), but that sounds harder.

Not sure, which search you are referring to. The main search or the tasklist
search? What would you like to preview?

I don't know how other people place their tags, but I often put them near the
content they apply to (as opposed to all together at page bottom or top).

I created a template where I have this structure:

Out of curiosity I (re-)installed the Task List plugin (I tried it out a
while back, before my current log/journal experiments) and it basically does
what I want!
A non-Todo-oriented plugin could reuse Task List code if someone wanted to do
that, but for now I can just misuse
Task List by putting checkboxes on my entries and telling Task List to index
1 - Journal. Thanks for pointing me in that direction!
Glad I could help ☺ If I’m not mistaken, the task list plugin would index
Journal pages out of the box.

For the tasklist plugin I already suggested to have the tags in a separate
column, so this print output could be used to send meeting minutes right away…
Every time I think I've bumped against a limit of Zim, I end up even more
impressed with it -- what a great program!

Indeed. When digging into the code, my respect to Jaap grew per line of code...

Re: [Zim-wiki] Unable to enable Insert Diagram plugin

2014-04-01 Thread Güven , Ugur Murat
Hi,

If I’m not mistaken, I had the same issue. I think my workaround was to install
Graphviz into C:\Tools\Graphviz and then
point the PATH to this directory as I believed that the blanks and brackets in
the directory string could be the reason.
But not sure if this could help you as you can run dot.exe…

What’s the status in Zim settings / Plugins / Diagram dependencies?

Regards
Murat

James:
Make sure the path to dot.exe is on your path, something like:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Graphviz2.36\bin\

Then in Zim under Edit - Preferences - Plugins
Insert Diagram should show the GraphViz dependency as OK
Make sure to enable the plugin with the checkbox.
You should be ready to use the insert diagram menu item

Hi all,
I have already installed Graphviz2.37 on my Windows7 machine, and I can render
table successfully with Graphviz. However, when I tried to enable Insert
Diagram plugin in Zim, I got dependency fail due to cannot find Graphviz.
I put my Graphviz path into my PATH variable, but no luck.
How can I enable Insert Diagram plugin in Zim ???
