[Zope] I did a blunder now I can't access zope...

2001-01-09 Thread Dany Rioux

Hello...

No, I'm not proud of myself. Anyway, here's what happened.

I installed a product in the root and when it asked me about the base
url, I typed an URL that isn't "attached" to zope, now I find myself
trying to connect to zope as I would usually do but only receive "The
requested URL /manage was not found on this server."

I know this message is generated by Apache but even after changing
Apache's configuration so the sub-domain that is refered is sent to
zope, I still get that message sent by apache for a 404. If I remove
the port number, I am getting the "normal" site (which is an apache
only site).

Now, from what I can guess, I have to remove the part I added as the
base url in the Data.fs but I don't know how to do that.

Sorry, I can't explain it better than that... Any suggestions except
reinstalling?

TIA!

Dany

Robin,

IIRC it can be done but I never used it myself because I think it's

RE: [Zope] Possible disaster upgrading to 2.2.4

2000-11-28 Thread Dany Rioux

I was thinking about downloading the ZDiscussions product and install
it but from what I can see, it looks like it needs some fixing.

I intend to upgrade to zope 2.2.4 when it was proven that it is stable
but I don't want to run into more troubles that I can chew on.

I will need a Discussion board when the site go live so should I
upgrade Zope and wait for another Discussion Product to come up or
install ZDiscussion and hold on the Zope upgrade?

TIA

RE: [Zope] Special behavior or bug?

2000-11-25 Thread Dany Rioux

Chris,

Thanks. It did work. Only thing is I feel like trying to break eggs to
cook with a jackhammer... It works but it is daunting.

Nonetheless, I'm very glad you gave me that. I don't think I would
have been able to pull that one off by myself. Oh, maybe in a year or
so :)

I have to say that it works on subfolders. The header in is the root
and other docs are below the root (of course). At least, until now, it
gave me what I wanted.

Thanks again for your help. (I feel I'll be saying that for quite some
time! :)

Oops! I spoke way too soon.

Try dtml-var document_title but you can't use it in a
 header or it will
give you the title of the header.

You can use the following code in a header:

 dtml-in objectValues
 dtml-if expr="_['id']==_.string.split(URL, '/')[-1]"
 hrdtml-var expr="this().title"hr
 /dtml-if
 /dtml-in

although it is a bit indirect and fragile: it will only
 work if you want
the title of DTML Method 'foo' and it is in folder 'bar'
 and the URL you
use to get it ends '/bar/foo', but it works in a header
 that is somewhere
else. You can modify objectValues to
 expr="bar.objectValues()" but then
it won't work in a header called by methods not in 'bar'. Another
 possible modification is expr="PARENTS[1].objectValues()".

In the News folder is a DTML method called news999. Should it be a

I tried the three methods you gave me. objectValues, "objectValues()"

Now this too is fixed. I just discovered the "sort=" thingie.

One thing would sure be helpful, a Guide explaining all the subtags in
a tag. Like what can be used in a dtml-var or dtml-in and params
for each subtag. Because as someone mentioned, searching on zope is a
real hassle. It takes a long time, and the search is ORed. So lots of
unrelated docs are counted as a hit.

Thanks a lot to all the helpers.

I know that the DTML reference is there on Zope.org but it's a hassle

Anyway. Here's an idea. Shouldn't there be a list FAQ? If there is one
it should be sent when subscribing. Or it could be requested. I'm
pretty sure most of the questions I sent have already been sent
answered more than once already and I know some that most other FAQs
use one. So, why not zope general list? It *is* possible, though
unlikely, that there is a list FAQ mentionned in the "Welcome to Zope

Thanks.

[Zope] Special behavior or bug?

Hi, yeah, I know, it's me again :)

I've got this snippet in the standard_html_header hoping it would

RE: [Zope] Special behavior or bug?

2000-11-24 Thread Dany Rioux

Chris, I can't change all the other DTML Methods to DTML Docs... I
would have to have only 1 DTML Method which is unthinkable.

Now, I'm sure there's a way to force what I want to do. Either with a
REQUEST.set('[calling_document.Title]') or something real :)

Is there such a function? (I'm sorry, I'm still confused on how to
call things in Zope.)

As for the Ferengi rules of acquisition, at least, I'm pretty sure I'd
get some profits :) haha But, unfortunately, my ears are not as
erogenous as the Ferengies. :)

Dany

Make sure that the standard_html_header is a DTML Method
 and not a DTML
Document. Make sure that the calling document is DTML
 Document and not a
DTML Method and it should work. That way the header
 acquires the title of
the calling document. If the calling document is a DTML Method, it
acquires it's title from somewhere else according to the
 Zope rules of
acquisition (as opposed to the Ferengi rules of acquisition ;).

 Cheers,
 Chris

RE: [Zope] Having troubles starting Zope.

2000-11-22 Thread Dany Rioux

Hi Chris,

I should have stated that I didn't upgrade Zope. I mean: it's the same
installation I had before except for the Hotfix which I got from zope.org I
checked this file, though I don't know anything about python, and it doesn't
seem to touch the core of zope's files.

About installing from source. I don't really have anything against that but
the linux box running zope is a P133 w/ 64 MB RAM... It's not a power
compiler if I may add :) so compiling the kind of app zope is makes me think
of compiling X. About an hour or so. I don't really want to get a too tight
grip on the machine's load.

What should gives the environment vars it asks in the error message? Maybe
we could find where it comes from.

In case I really have to. What are the files that should be copied so I keep
my database intact and my configuration too like users and such.

Last, I upgraded the kernel with support for reiserfs. Think that might do
bad things? It's a thought but zope refused to start before the upgrade was
completed, meaning before rebooting the box after the kernel compilation.

What should be the ownership of the /var/lib/zope* and /usr/lib/zope/* ? Is
there a zope user?

Well, that's about all I can think of.

Thanks for the help.

Dany

It sounds like the .deb of Zope (or the hotfix) you have is
misconfigured in some way... I think the Debian Zope maintainer is
Gregor Hoffleit... I'd imagine he'd be interested in a bug report.

But in the meantime, I'd suggest using the Zope source distribution to
install... it's actually not too hard.

1. make sure you have Python installed as well as the Python
"development libraries" (might be easiest to install Python from source
too here, but probably not required)
2. download the latest Zope source tgz
3. ungzip and untar it as a regular user in a directory somewhere you
like
4. run "python w_pcgi.py" in the directory (pay attention to the
password it gives you for the superuser)
5. wait for it to compile (report any errors you come up with in this
step to the list)
6. type "./start"
7. fire up a browser and point it at port 8080
8. log in as superuser and create a management account
9. close the browser
10. open the browser again and log in as the management user.
11. have fun.

 Hi listers,

Until this afternoon, I was using zope (more like trying to use it) and
everything was ok. I had some problems with the .deb SiteAccess but I
fixed it by getting the real thing from zope.org and it worked. I added
the latest Hotfix because it's a good thing to have. Then I restarted Zope
but it never went back up again.

The box is Linux debian woody with Zope 2.2.2

When I try to start it up, that's the message I get:

 -PASTE---
 drioux:/etc/init.d# ./zope start
 Starting Zope...Traceback (innermost last):
   File "/usr/sbin/zope-z2", line 535, in ?
 except: CLIENT_HOME = os.path.join(INSTANCE_HOME, 'var')
 NameError: INSTANCE_HOME
  failed.
 -/PASTE--

I went to check the line seeming to cause this and there's a comment about
 ZEO:

 -PASTE---
 # CLIENT_HOME allows ZEO clients to easily keep distinct pid and
 # log files. This is currently an *experimental* feature, as I expect
 # that increasing ZEO deployment will cause bigger changes to the
 # way that z2.py works fairly soon.
 try:CLIENT_HOME = os.environ['CLIENT_HOME']
 except: CLIENT_HOME = os.path.join(INSTANCE_HOME, 'var')
 -/PASTE--

I remember seeing something about ZEO on zope.org but I don't remember if
it was an update or whatelse but AFAIK I didn't installed and/or I don't
 use a ZEO client.

Now, I'm a total Zope newbie. Ok maybe not total but I'm a basic newbie
and I wonder if the Hotfix fixed too much... I tried to move the Hotfix
directory elsewhere but that didn't change a thing.

Anyone can offer help or maybe it's already been discussed. I looked at
the list's past 2 months but came up empty.

 TIA

RE: [Zope] Having troubles starting Zope. Now: compiling Zope

2000-11-22 Thread Dany Rioux

Ok, so running dns/imap/mail/apache/zope/samba/nfs/mysql/snmb/sshd and all
the rest of the normal services running (not forgetting the php/cgi/etc
modules of apache) and compiling shouldn't be a problem? :)

I have to admit the box is not receiving that much traffic but I wouldn't
want to slow things more than I have to.

I've compiled several Zopes on my p133, sometimes more than one at a
time, no problems. :) Of course, it depend son what _else_ the machine
may be doing. Mine was running mail/dns sevrer at the time, not much
else really.

I don't really care about my end :) Only the user's :)

But I think it would be a nice idea to implement. I'll give it some
thoughts.

In my case, I picked a time when I knew traffic would be lower, and
there were no issues. YMMV.

If your browsers are not on the local LAN, but through modem, they
probably wouldn't notice much, if any change, all things being equal. :)

RE: [Zope] Having troubles starting Zope. Now FIXED!

2000-11-22 Thread Dany Rioux

I fixed it.

All I had to do was reinstall the zope .deb and it started alright. The
content is still there (though I was almost scared to death having thought
of doing backups AFTER the reinstallation) and all is good.

Well, almost. Now that it's fixed and all is back to normal, I will try to
find what caused this. *crossing fingers*

I'll let you know if I find something.

RE: [Zope] is it possible to see whether any user is using a perticular zope object

2000-11-22 Thread Dany Rioux

Hi,

Same as you, i tried to use this gadfly thing when I started and even when
choosing it I received a message from zope telling me that it wasn't the
real thing/unreliable/etc. I *think* there is a more stable GadFly
somewhere but I would advise you to go with mySQL which I use and never had
any problems with.

Unless I'm wrong, it wouldn't be such a pain to change to mySQL or other
DBMS... You would only have to dump the content of the current DB and create
the tables, if necessary. mySQL's learning curve is not that big and is
faily easy to understand/use/get used to.

No,
I haven't used any other DBMS.
I have almost finished working in this gadfly.
So I can't change now.
Because there is no time to change it now.
So please give me the solution.
thanks

[Zope] Error Installing PKT

I just installed PKT and I can't import DemoPortal.zexp.

I get this error

I would guess I'm missing some module. Anyone can tell me which one it is?

TIA.

Well, you seem to be missing PythonMethods ;)

You must get them from the CVS. See http://www.zope.org/Resources/CVS_info
