Well you should be more shameless in your self promotion, that Prepaternal
(Paternal Revision) is some funky shit! TIP! Outside the things that you
mentioned in your email, the futute beat alliance album , beginner's mind
has been doing it for me, and we just learned there's a claude yong remix
forthcoming of one of the tracks. The new Jay Daniel, Jon Dixon, Theo and
listmember contributions from Kevin and Kent are also doing the damn thing.
While there's no scene to speak of, I've enjoyed having the time to really
get down and examine this thing we call dance music. This has been a shit
year, but we gotta keep going and dancing, if we can.

Pretty surreal to see this, jokes aside for being able to book yourself to
play on the system with one guest aside.

And who knows what's next, since this doesn't seem like we're emerging from

I happened to cop the Drexciya hardcover and t-shirt right around festival

when it's all said and done.

Thanks for the tip!

Also doing it for me, as I'm listening to new shit in another tab, the New
Derek Carr - Pursuit Part 1 and 2 on Sushitech.

It's fucking fantastic, I know most of y'all are already familiar with his
work form the past releases on too many labels i don't feel the need to
retype here.

But this album is exactly what we all need to hear and be playing out right
now. Fresh new music with nods to the past, without being overly derivative.

5 1200s, mics, flames or whatever emoji of your choice you need to realize
this is dope music.

And before I forget, Shawn Rudiman and Jordan (of juju and jordan fame)
have a release out on local label "love what you feel" out today, now I'm
biased cause these are my mates, but the music speaks for itself.

Get some! https://itma.bandcamp.com/album/ams-pit-love-what-you-feel-008

You may now return to your regularly scheduled programming already in
progress.

That was an amazing video tribute to Drexciya and the “oppressive white
woman” was blowing them the whole time with mad props!?

Maybe you’re forgetting a few things:

 - RA (or no one at all for that matter) are OBLIGATED to do anything in
a certain way. Their money, their resources, their business. As long as it
was done with integrity and factual etc then there shouldn’t be a problem
 with it.

 - Apparenly they felt that the woman had the voice they wanted to lead
the video. Umm, let’s see...maybe because the fucking AUDIENCE they target
look and sound like her?? And again, it’s their dime not yours or mine.

 - Instead of being pumped that a documentary like this was released and
hopefully generated some more awareness for very well-deserved artists you
have to come in with your miserable take and try to shit on it.

 - You’re the only racist here by saying that a white person can’t make
something about black people, especially when it’s geared towards MORE
 white people (their audience).

 - For fucks sake, this was a totally positive project and you’re trying
to make them out to be slave owners. Are you jelly that you didn’t make
 it??

The only thing that sucks is if they used my man Andrew’s interview
without asking him, but that’s far from any sort of racial bias or angle.

That’s like someone starving being given food then complaining it isn’t
 filet mignon.

 Pathetic.

Exactly.

I've been looking at this list, and all I wonder is a) are they in the
crate, and b) if not let me check.

Getting over it is never part of the equation.

I love the "inside techno" talk. I'll have to check this out Cliff, as
I've been late to the digital game I'm sure I'm not the only one
that's curious about unreleased gems sitting on a hard drive / DAT in
your possession. Not sure what took me so long, but dropping that USB
drive into a CDJ is music to my backs ears. So instead of 4 bags, I
take 2/3, which is still far too much music for a standard set, but
I've got problems. :)

Re: 4x new Transmat EPs

2016-01-06 Thread jwan allen
Also on the new music front.

The latest Kyle Hall, two thumbs up. While I don't own it, I've had to
opportunity to get an extended preview and it's giving me Hanna /
Warren Harris vibes and that's never a bad thing.

Reissue front. The Fingers Inc. album.

The packaging on each is also top notch. I'm not afraid to admit it, I
enjoy pretty things. :)

Re: 4x new Transmat EPs

2016-01-05 Thread jwan allen
That Model 500 was largely slept on in my opinion. Juan quietly puts
together outstanding albums, yet we only seem to only hear mention of
his classic stuff (alleys of our mind, cosmic cars etc). Now there's
nothing wrong with classics but the majority of the originators are
still pumping out new material. So even if some of the new stuff isn't
your type of hype, let's at least acknowledge they're still putting
stuff out there.

I'm curious to see / hear what the new Transmat stuff sounds like, I
haven't necessarily dug the majority of the recent output, but that
last Djinx under his real name, started to grow on me after hearing it
out a few times.

I agree wholeheartedly with the call for a repress of Clark's -
lofthouse. I'd love another copy of this gem. Start Shameless plug
now: If any 313ers will be in Columbus, OH, this weekend, I'll be
dropping many of those sought after repress wants, since like many
seasoned techno dj's I never stopped playing them.

End shameless plug.

At this point I would even take a digital copy, and I know what you're
saying, jwan just encode the damn thing yourself. As I'm pretty new
to the digital game, I'm more apt to just rebuy a digital copy of
something than starting the arduous task of encoding my wax. There's
only so many hours in the day, and I rather just support the artist
again, if at all possible.

2013-11-20 Thread jwan allen
Personally, I'm in a wait and see mode, let's see what the line-up at
both venues will be and go from there. I'm hoping they've taken some
notes from what paxahau has done over the years in terms of logistics,
which has made it easier for those coming from a great distance to
plan accordingly. We've been spoiled, we can drive up to the D at a
moments notice being only a 4.5 hr drive away. Which I feel is the
limit on any last minute preparations.

While I believe competition is a great thing at the end of the day,
I'm just curious how 3 major music festivals occurring within weeks of
each other are going to handle artists bookings. Will any of them
attempt to coerce an artist into an exclusivity spring/summer
booking, etc. Rather than continue with endless speculation, I'll just
wait and see and keep an eye on my shorecrest reservations.

Agreed his strongest material to date, not to say he didn't have any
highlights on his palette material. But these records in particular
still kill it. I dropped the timebomb vip mix two weeks ago a gig here

Unlike most collectors I'm happy with reissues, since one it keeps
vinyl going ( my medium of choice) and it keeps tunes current for the

John had some moments on the mosaic label as well, but I may be biased

My copy arrived today, so I plan on doing an extensive comparison this

reissues, I have to tip my hat to clone, by releasing it at the end of
the year I had some spare xmas money to throw their way.

I'm sure I'll continue to take the originals to play out and will
leave the fancy comp for home listening / playing ala the shake
reissues. Which I'm sure is the exact opposite of what others do, but
then again I'm the oddball still playing wax to begin with.

Have a happy new year folks! May the next 366 give you more tunes to

Great point about the mastering perhaps giving a more consistent
 quality, Emile...

I hadn't been so interested in actually listening to the comp, since I
know it all already, until you guys reminded me about the
remastering...It'll be interesting to hear how esp. certain tracks
might sound better/different -- Wavejumper The Countdown Has Begun
come to mind off the top of my head, the 909 in the originals is so
punchy and I think that record is kinda crusty, in a good way and in a
 bad way...

I think some stuff could really benefit in some ways but maybe others
might lose some specialness, even if they sound technically better,
I'm pretty curious now...Especially I think where Ron Murphy was
involved, it'll be interesting to hear the difference because it's
bound to be pretty different...Everything he mastered (like
Wavejumper/UR-030) had his touch, a bit of wildness that fit the music
so well..On the other hand, it wasn't always a 100% success...;)

 good

One thing that might be interesting is that remastering everything in
 one
session from the original tapes might give the tracks a more consistent
sound. I don't know for sure but I'd imagine that because a lot of them
 were
released on different labels, most of these 12s were mastered by
 different
engineers at different cutting sessions and that as a result all the
 records
sound a bit different, well at least to my ears, they do.

Stacey Pullen Presents Kosmic Messenger – The Collected Works Of
Kosmic Messenger 2 xLP

I had Stacey pullen sign this for me back in '97. What was funny about
that was I had him sign this record for me at a 12 hr rave daytime
rave (noon to midnight) that was 4 hours from house, so I had this
record on me for the entire event, after party and subsequent
shenanigans that I won't go into in a public forum. I had him sign the
sleeve in order to protect the wax. You'd be surprised how many dumb
questions I had to field during that 20+ hour ordeal.

The latest thing I've had signed was the first album by Little Dragon
when they played here in Pittsburgh a few weeks ago. Great band,
better show, still a fanboy at heart, just a little older and heavier.

because they were £1 more expensive than the normal copies and I had
the majority of the tracks anyway)...I mean the ones you've actually
taken the time and bother to drag down to a club night where somebody
you totally respect is about to play and you run up to them with a
silver or black marker and...well, you know the rest :)

Tonight, whilst going through my vinyl for the first time in a LONG
 time, I found:

Mr Fingers - Amnesia - of course I was new to the signing thing then
and had brought a ball point pen instead of a marker and poor old
Larry had to sort of inscribe the cover as the pen wouldn't write -
this would have been roughly 1994-1995 when he played live (DX7, Emax
II and live vocals- I recoreded the gig on DAT and of course, it
didn't work) in the Volcano club on a Thursday night (where the club
scene in Trainspotting was filmed fact fans!)

Orlando Voorn - 1987 DMC MegaMix - signed at his Art School gig back
in 2001 just before I moved over to Amsterdam - he ended the show by
coming out of the DJ booth, dancing like a crazy man and then
scratching in the next track by leaning back into the booth whilst
still dancing - pretty impressive stuff!

Of course the hardest part after making a fool of yourself is getting
the said record home in one piece..or home at all!

Come on you lot, what you got?

Stinson/Donald tunes sound particularly chaotic even to my modern

without listening to anything else for such an extended period of

To date Wavejumper from their 1995 Aquatic Invasion EP remains my
   absolute favorite Drexciya tune:

Hitting the local spots around the 'burgh. Looking to pick up the new
Burial, Mahagoni and get back to some long overdue digging.I would be
going crazy moneywise, as I'm looking to save that money for the
annual trek to the D. Since all the pressing plants in the US are
quite busy, I'm hoping all labels 313 and otherwise have plenty of
wares to sell. If nothing else to offset some of the wacker additons
on the line-up. But that's for another thread.

Happy Record store day everyone!

Ricardo is looking forward to coming back to Detroit again after all

Last year the Movement Festival in Detroit had four stages.

“We are excited to have Movement Torino as the sponsor of the fifth
stage for this year’s festival,” said Huvaere. “Our international
partnership when formed last year was historic and has since proved to
be mutually beneficial for Movement Torino and Movement Detroit.”

Huvaere went on to say, “Fans will enjoy the great lineup of artists
scheduled to perform on the Movement Torino stage, there is a great mix
of talent from both Detroit and Italy.”

Headlining the Torino Stage during the three-day festival will be one of

Re: (313) More music from Detroit....

2009-05-08 Thread jwan allen
Glad you pointed that out, since this particular scenario will
continue to present itself. Since I'm an avid vinyl fetishist if you
may, digital files, for one reason or another just aren't on my radar.
They might as well not exist in my world. Unless I have a prior
relationship with said label (ie. Eveonext, PTR, Motech, etc.) and/or
I'm being sent a mp3 promo / peek of a forthcoming vinyl release. I'll
probably forget about the tune being mentioned as soon as I open up a
new window or navigate to another page, after forwarding the info to
the digital jocks in my inner circle. So in the aforementioned example
of the k.hand tunes, they were on beatport in February, but RELEASED
this week.

I know that's splitting hairs for most, but this is just how I
approach it. Perhaps I'm missing out on the next Strings of Life,
but until proven wrong I highly doubt it.

I know Andrew and others have mentioned the latest Planet E from Reade
Truth (Sonic Groove), but if you haven't already done so, you must get
this record. Refreshing, is the adjective that first comes to mind
each and every time I drop these tunes on the platter. I can't say
I've flipped over anything he has done previously on his Path Imprint,
but if this release is a sign of things to come, I'll be first in line
to snag a copy!

jw

ps. (full disclosure, I run a record label w/ my mates and have a
vested interest in the continuation of the vinyl format, we do release
digital files. Personally I just don't get the same buzz from that as
I do from vinyl.)

also I see there's an RS repress of the 69 classic lite music so
those of you that missed out the first couple of times around, please
go out and purchase. It will be nice to hear someone else play these
tunes, besides people I know personally.:)

Detroit Underground guys- most unlike her other output it has to be

There's a Norm Talley 10 on 3rd Ear which has a nice (if not entirely

(313) what's new with REAL Detroit releases?

2009-01-27 Thread jwan allen
Shake (313 superhero) has a forthcoming 12 on Morphine Records called
Levitate Venice. This title can be heard in some of more recent Andrew
Duke in the Mix sessions.

I may be a bit biased, but its another fantastic record from Mr.
Shakir. A more detailed review will be posted on
infinitestatemachine.com, after the Steelers win the Super Bowl.:)

Maybe its just me, but the past few Planet E releases haven't been
worth mentioning, since I'm not the target audience for exceedingly
mediocre dance music. I would much rather here more Tribe tracks, than
jona/buttrich/wackness that's been pressed lately.

Actually the T.H.D. will be digital only!

Since I'm a music nerd I listen to just about everything that comes
out on a weekly basis, and with the advent of new technologies, I
can't say that the quality has increased, less quality control
perhaps? That's just my observation.

But vinyl isn't the flavor of the month, I've had to except that fact,
the silver lining being that I can now snap up doubles on slept on
titles for pennies on the dollar! I just have no interest in lugging
my laptop to a gig and hoping no one walks off with it. Records are
heavy so I guess that's an anti-theft deterrent built in;)

I'd love to listen to it, if there was a digital release...I'm still amazed
that in 2008 some releases are vinyl only.
What am I supposed to do if vinyl is not an option to me (for whatever
reasons) ? It sounds like some artists / label owners
do not want (or care) their music to be heard by all the people that can be
interested in it...Or they assume all of those use vinyl.

performances by: Newcleus, Egyptian Lover, Shawn Michaels, James Zabiela,
Benny Bennassi, The Cool Kids,Girl Talk, DATABASS (featuring Godfather),
Justin Kruse, Tech Itch and Dieselboy.

Also joining this year as a media partner is the vastly popular, global
online social networking site MySpace. Having grown over the previous years
to become the largest online social network, MySpace is utilized by many
artists and fans to connect and keep in touch with each other, adding an
intimate element to the usual marketing channels. MySpace?s interest in
working with the Movement Festival validates an already well known fact -
Detroit?s Electronic Music Festival is an event that is continuing to grow
and attract attention on a worldwide scale.

After the last two years of progress and reviews the festival is getting
some well deserved attention, notes festival director Jason Huvaere,
there will be no question what?s happening in Detroit on Memorial Day
 weekend.

In addition, this year?s event will increase the level of production
regarding sound at the main stage and weather structures to protect
attendees. Movement 08 will also bring back the underground stage, where
Paxahau?s involvement in the festival began. We have taken great measures
to bring the production to an even higher level, says Mike Fotias,
Movement Production Manager, We understand that attendees come here
expecting nothing but the best and we are determined to deliver.
