Govt to issue ID cards for persons with disabilities
Moushumi Das Gupta , Hindustan Times New Delhi, July 20, 2014

In a unique initiative aimed at empowering disabled people, the government
is planning to issue a pan-India multipurpose identity card to the about
27 million persons with disability (PwD) in India.

The card, which will be valid across the country, is likely to be launched
next year and will help PwDs to easily avail benefits under various
government schemes targeting them.

Currently, a disability certificate - issued to persons with over 40%
disability - is required for availing government benefits.

But there have been instances where a certificate issued by one state or a
government department is not accepted by another. The certificate is
reviewed all over again by doctors and only when approved, can the person
claim entitlement. This often results in PwDs being subjected to
harassment. The unique card will do away with this anomaly as it will be
valid across India, said a source.

The disability affairs department, under the social justice and
empowerment ministry, had last week roped in the National Informatics
Centre (NIC), Department of Electronics and Information Technology to
prepare a detailed project report for rolling out the ID cards.

NIC will prepare a centralised database to help identify PwDs by
collating data from the census and state governments. They will also
design the unique ID and recommend its implementation mechanism, said an
official.

For issuing the ID card, the ministry has proposed to hire implementation
agencies in coordination with state governments.

The agencies would be provided a hand held device to scan the disability
certificates, take photographs or collect biometrics of the beneficiary.
Once the scanned disability certificate is available, data entry operator
can centrally verify and enter the data into the database for issuance of
a unique ID card, the official added

CAPTCHA is not the only way of circumventing robotic attacks, there
exist

better alternatives. I've mentioned a few in the previous email and list
members have suggested alternatives like mobile OTP, simple
mathematical

calculation, etc.

Security is one of the primary concerns that web sites have in today's
world
and cannot be ruled out. It's about how smart and accessible it is made
so
that genuine users can easily use it and malicious users can be
identified

and kept away from achieving their goals.

on the name of security I can't support at all this capture code.
webvisum
is not a solution it is just a tool to help. what would i do at a time
if
the webvisum server is not working in emergancy? and it accepts only 20
hits

a day, sometimes in my office I have to make 30 to 40 online income tax
payment, is it fair to call each and everry time to my sighted
colleague?

If you will support this on the name of security, no website will remove
this capture code. it is just a fobia and nothing more then that.
instead of
wasting our time in discussing the matter better a strong action should
be
taken against this capture. we have already many discussions regarding
this
problem but got no result at all. I request you all to please go ahead
for
conclusive action or end this topic here right now. this is a plateform
of

inteligent people and in my opinion the discussion of intelligent people
never concludes. instead it converts in arguement. I am completely blind
and
my screen reader don't read this capture. this is one line question and
I

did not get any absolute answer from this group.

Hi!

The CAPTCHA is primarily introduced by web sites to key bots at bay.
They address security and web traffic concerns but their
inaccessibility pose challenges for users like us who cannot see
images. Audio based and random, obvious questions in plain text form
can prove helpful to us but web sites definitely need to be smarter
enough to filter out bad/malicious requests using better
aalternatives. For example:

1. ICICI Direct asks for PAN or date of birth along with User ID and
Passwird on the login screen.
HDFC Bank has a two-step login process where step 1 accepts only User
ID and validates it. If correct then it takes the user to step 2 where
user specified secure code and picture are displayed for user
verification and accepts the password along with a confirmation
whether the secure code and picture are correct.
3. LinkedIn asks for solving CAPTCHA only when a user enters incorrect
credentials in the sign-in attempt (though this is good fir users
entering correct credentials in the first attempt, it's not so good
for others).

The OTP on mobile is good but again a dependency on the phone being
registered with the site and being available with the user.

Webvisum on the Firefox browser is of great help in solving such
CAPTCHA. I've

books, I cant see properly at night, I cant adjust my eyes in low light. I came
to realise that I had some eye problem in my eyesight when I was in 11th grade.
I wasnt able to see blackboard from back and wasnt able to read properly in low
light. Then I started using table lamps at the time when I studied at home. I
went to many doctors but they only said that I have a weak retina and my vision
will be getting low as the time goes. I finally did my 13th and was passed out
from my high school. Then, in 2011 I took admission in engineering college
knowing that I wont be able to read blackboard and books properly. At the time
of my first sem exams I found my examination hall darker because of the rainy
season. I faced a lot of trouble in attempting exams. Due to this thing I
failed in alnost every exams. One day I was really fed up with the dark
examination hall and at the time of my physucs exam I requested the examiner to
change my seat from dark place to some bright face, she completely denied and
told me to sit wherever I am sitting. It was really dissapointing situation for
me  fue to my constant failure in exams u decided to quit from b.tech and
decided no more wastage of my pqrebts money because the private college has a
huge amount of feed. And, I wasted 3 lakhs of my parents money. That was really
a disappointing news fir my parents. I will never forgive myself for this
wastage I did. Now, I am sitting idol at home. I decided to explore everything
about RP I contacted many RPers all around the world  After contacting other
RPers I realised that I am a biggest fool on this planet. Now, I come to know
that I can do anything I want. I want to began with a new course. I have to
fight for myself. I want to to live like everyone does. Earlier, I was afraid
to be in a disable list. But,  now I dont. Now,  I am looking for a giv
university in india that can offer computer engineering or it with easy
accessible services. Please suggest me and help me.

Hi friend, I am using induction cooktop for last 4 years. According to
my experience, I am more than satisfied. Before purchase an induction
cooktop, you must ensure that your model comes with manual bubble like
switches with buzzer rather than touch controls.

Subject: [AI] About Key map in Windows 7.

 Hello,

One of my friend had to change the keyboard of his hp laptop recently. The

function keys on the new keyboard are not working properly. For instance,

f1 works as window+f1, f4 works as window+ and so on. Jaws says the
function when the key is pressed and the same function is also performed.

F4 (window+p) invokes the projector dialogue box. However, alt+f4 is
 working.

Is there any way I can change the key map on windows 7? I shall meet him
 next saturday.

2014-07-20 Thread Radha
Hi there,

you have separate provision for milk and water boiling.
Just memorise the switches, I use it with those clicking sounds it make. .
Of course, rice, veggies, dal and all can be prepared using it,
provided we use a flat bottom vessels.
only for boiling milk for the first time, I find it difficult to
recognize, so, to avoid it, get a milk boiler with flat bottom.

Hi,
this is good inetiative.

But I would prefer to make some changes here.

The ID card which the Government is going to issue should include
pwd's independence. For instance, to book rail ticket they should
issue unique number to VI persons which will us to save the time
inspite of going to stations and standing in the cueue.

Like this, they are many.
Hope they will concern about this as well..

Subject: [AI] Govt to issue ID cards for persons with disabilities

Re: [AI] Cooking with the help of induction cook top.

2014-07-20 Thread Naushad Charivilayil

Certainly, we can control the heat of an induction cooker.
1. To increase or decrease the heat: use plus or minus button.
2, set time: press timer button once, and use plus or minus button to
increase or decrease by one minute. Example to set 10 minute, press
timer once, and press plus 10 times.

3. To boil water: use full power of the induction cooker.
4. There is a special button for boiling milk.
5. Use a thicker pan with induction base to frying jobs. Warning, don't
use thinner steel pan for frying, oil may burn!
6. Temperature range of the induction cooker will be between 80 digree
and 350 degree celcius.
7. Please refer a good cooking book to understand exact temperature for
different dishes.

Hello!
My name is sajal arora. I am form panipat, haryana. I am a patient of RP. I was
diagnosed in 2011 in diljit hospital in amritsar. I am 20 years old. I have a
poor central vision and ok peripherical vision.  Currently, I have an average
vision status. I can drive at the time of day and rarely at night. I can't read
books, I cant see properly at night, I cant adjust my eyes in low light. I came
to realise that I had some eye problem in my eyesight when I was in 11th grade.

[AI] Fwd: FW: Horrible experience of customer service with Indigo-Lodging of complaint

2014-07-20 Thread Jairam Balasubramanian
Hello Preeti and other friends

What a classic reply received from Indigo team. I take out an extract
from the reply received from them as:
We would like to confirm that we do have a provision of assisting
passengers with special needs, however, we were not informed of your
travel in advance which could have assisted us in making your travel a
hassle free experience within the confines of our existing policies.

Agreed that the disability was not mentioned at the time of booking by
my agent, but at the time of reaching the airport, I had duly
mentioned about my disability at Srinagar and also Delhi.
Does this absolve the airline of its fundamental duties towards the disabled?

During the course of discussion with their representative, I was told
that same airline co-ordinates with Mumbai AAI and arranges for
airport transfer. Then the same could have been done at Delhi also,
even if it is a one-off event. A ground staff at the Delhi airport
asked me to wait and precisely tried doing this but his senior from
the other decided otherwise. So I was asked to board a shuttle to the
terminal, which they are claiming to be full compliance and service
from their end.

On reaching the terminal, no support from their staff. At least, they
could have checked in my baggage as priority (already requested at
Srinagar), given me some directions to reach the international
terminal and at least escort me till the cab service. This could have
been the least service. But they are shunning it away as they claim
that I have not informed them in advance.
I have informed their staff at Srinagar at 7.00 a.m. and reached Delhi
at 11.45 a.m. Is this not intimation in advance?

This is no reply which is acceptable, I guess!
Want to file a formal complaint now.

Jairam

Dear Mr. Balasubramanian,

Greetings from IndiGo!

Thank you for taking out the time to speak to me at length, I truly
appreciate your time.

At the outset, we sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to you and
your family on the 19th of June 2014 for your travel from Srinagar to
Dubai.

With reference to your email, we would like to confirm that as per
policy being followed since our inception, IndiGo does not have a
provision of through check in for passengers travelling on a
connecting flight.

As communicated to you, we would like to add here that the airport
transfer is taken care by the Airport Authority of India (AAI) and is
governed by them. Airline holds no responsibility for passenger
transfer from one terminal to the other.

Further, as per our detailed investigation made with Delhi and
Srinagar airports, we would like to confirm that you were assisted
with a loader till shuttle bus counter.

We would like to confirm that we do have a provision of assisting
passengers with special needs, however, we were not informed of your
travel in advance which could have assisted us in making your travel a
hassle free experience within the confines of our existing policies.
We appreciate customers like you who let us know when things aren't
right. Your experience has been shared the Vice President- Airport
Operations and Customer Services and further the team has been
sensitized about more delicate handling of instances like these in
order to avoid recurrences.
Trust me, your feedback - whether positive or negative - makes a
difference and we thank you for sharing your views with us, as it
plays a critical role in enhancing quality of our customer service and
achieve our goal to exceed customer expectations. It will definitely
assist us in becoming better at what we do. As with any business like

Greetings to you.

Further to the telephonic talk with you on July 16, 2014, I am mailing
the travel details of June 14 and June 19, 2014 with Indigo for your
reference.

On June 14, 2014, your airline denied auto check in of baggage from Nagpur to

Hello Preeti and other friends

What a classic reply received from Indigo team. I take out an extract
from the reply received from them as:
We would like to confirm that we do have a provision of assisting
passengers with special needs, however, we were not informed of your
travel in advance which could have assisted us in making your travel a
hassle free experience within the confines of our existing policies.

Agreed that the disability was not mentioned at the time of booking by
my agent, but at the time of reaching the airport, I had duly
mentioned about my disability at Srinagar and also Delhi.
Does this absolve the airline of its fundamental duties towards the
disabled?

As with any business like
ours, the greatest advertising we can have is word of mouth from a
satisfied customer.

Once again, we thank you for your valuable time that you took out to
write to us and I assure you of our best services at all times.

We look forward to assisting you with your future travel plans and
thank you for taking the time to communicate with us.

Hi as far as i know, one must inform airlines at list 24 to 48 hours
in advance.

just to further this point, airlines them selfs don't have
there own staf,
they do out sorsing, so need to get advance info
as much as possible,

i am not trying to justify the Airline, just wanting to throw light,
how it works.

What a classic reply received from Indigo team. I take out an extract
from the reply received from them as:

travel in advance which could have assisted us in making your travel a

Jairam

Agree with Mahendra. Further my experience with Indigi both travelling alone
and family was always good. Often they ask if we need help specially when we
travel with our kid who is less than a year. I never got a refusal when I ask
them for help.
