To avaid havign a rep to each tape, for instance on CHECKIN, use option Search=BULK on CHECKOUT use Remove=BULK. DRM CHECKOUT commands have a SIMILAR OPTION. This way you only have to REPLY once for each batch, not for each tape. TSM 5.3 Server I understand, removes the REPLY altogether.
