We currently have the ibm 3494 library with 3592-e05 (ts1120) drives.
It seems that we must go to the 3584 to get access to lto type tapes, yet keep

Hey guys, quick question.
We recently upgraded to an IBM3584 library from an older 3494. We now have
to manually interact with the library for tape check in or outs. When our DR
media is created we have to 'q request' and then 'rep #' of the request for
each tape. This obviously is a pain since
To avaid havign a rep to each tape, for instance on CHECKIN,
use option Search=BULK on CHECKOUT use Remove=BULK.
DRM CHECKOUT commands have a SIMILAR OPTION.
This way you only have to REPLY once for each batch, not for each

TSM 5.3 Server I understand, removes the REPLY altogether.

TSM data base ? how do I get these back in sync
On a 3584, an audit library 3584lib checkl=barcode does NOT
a cleaning tape yet.

WE are running tsm 5.3.0.0 on AIX with 3485lib. Yesterday we had to open the
library to take out some of the Tapes because when we did checkout system
couldn't find them. By mistake we took out a volume FT0660 from the library.
now we want to checkin it in the library and it fail indicating
to normal. One thing, make sure that the volume
has still access=readw (q vol).

I'm wondering with a 3584 if there is specific issues I should be aware of
that someone can point out. Are there certain administrative functions you
perform on an ongoing basis? I'd feel a little more comfortable if I had
something like that going into this switchover. I just don't want to miss

Subject: Define 3584 Library LTO2 Drive
Would someone mind explaining how to define the library in TSM 5.3 when
the
library type is 3584 and the drives are LTO2? I see that AIX picks up
the
control path to the library
there is no
example that fills the category for defining a 3584 library so maybe you
just don't. The other question would be if the library is broken into 2
logical libraries would there be anything additional?
I'd also like to know if someone believes this would be complete for
defining the drive and its path
advice and did it solve the issue of
'loosing' slots.
Thanks
Leigh

My call is still open. When a solution is available, I'll report back.

We tested it out in our environment, and did not find the same
problem--all tapes were scanned appropriately.
I guess our barcode scanner is right-side-up.

Is this something you folks are seeing in all frames, or in just one? We
just upgraded one library to this code not long ago, and I'd like to check
and see whether it's affecting us as well. That particular library also
has a fair amount of empty space, but we're supposed to upgrade another

Both. Our 3584 is just one frame. :)

Fair enough. :) I think we're going to test this on Wednesday morning
(the next time someone will be out to that building), using the first two
frames of our library. I'll post if anything interesting results.
