Hi Kirsten, couldn't find message ANR8476E in the 4.2 Message Manual. But it might be that RESTORE DB only supports manual libraries like UNLOADDB? Kind regards Thomas Rupp Vorarlberger Illwerke AG MAIL: [EMAIL PROTECTED] TEL:++43/5574/4991-251 FAX:++43/5574/4991-820-8251

TSM functions and Intranet

2002-02-08 Thread Rupp Thomas (Illwerke)
Hi *SM-ers, now our daily TSM operation (checkout DB backup, copy pool volumes ...) is done using a home grown GUI on VM/ESA. But in a few months there will be no mainframe in this company any more. So I'm looking to bring the daily TSM operation functions to our intranet. The query part seems

Thanks for your response! Our TSM server is a NSM (Network Storage Manager) - actually a H50 box. This is intended to be a black box (all upgrades are done by IBM) but I get the impression that I should get familiar with AIX and all those other things I need to write CGI programs (PERL or PHP

3590 Cartridge with Write Errors

Hi TSM-ers, I've got a 3590 cartridge that gave me read errors so I couln't copy the data to a copy storage pool. What do you do with such tapes? Do you throw them away? Do initialize them? If yes how? Kind regards Thomas Rupp Vorarlberger Illwerke AG MAIL: [EMAIL PROTECTED] TEL:

2002-02-06 Thread Rupp Thomas (Illwerke)
This is a primary storage pool tape (all of our TDP for SAP R/3 backups go directly to tape). The backup was successful but making a copy to the copy storage pool resulted in a read error. I moved all other data to a different tape volume, deleted the faulty tape and discarded the remaining data.

Thanks to all who responded to my problem. Defragmenting the database using UNLOADDB/LOADDB seemed to solve my problem. Adjusting some settings in DSMSERV.OPT and installing the newest 4.2 client further improved performance. Thanks for your support! Kind regards Thomas Rupp

AW: Performance drop after upgrade to TSM 4.2.1.8

2002-01-29 Thread Rupp Thomas (Illwerke)
Hi, after UNLOADDB/LOADDB the size of our db changed from 7.1 GB to 4.8GB. Performance is much better now: EXPIRE INVENTORY changed from 35K entries/hour to 105K entries/hour. Cache hit rate went up to about 98%. Our db was 15 months old. I think a reorg after a version upgrade is a good thing.

Hi, maybe we've got the same problem (slow performance) but on a different platform. We upgraded from TSM 3.7.2.0 to 4.1.1.0 and our database cache hit rate dropped to about 95%. We then upgraded to TSM 4.1.5.0, changed some settings in DSMSERV.OPT - to no avail. Over this weekend we

Hi *SM'ers, we backup our Windows 2000 servers using a PRESCHEDCMD that does a NTBACKUP for the system objects - so they will later be saved as flat files. NTBACKUP takes about 3 minutes to complete. During this time TSM shows the event in status PENDING - but a session has already been

Hi TSM-ers, we upgraded a few days ago from TSM 3.7.2.0 to 4.1.1.0. This upgrade was done by our IBM CE (it's a NSM with an 3494 ATL). After the upgrade the performance dropped dramatically. I think it's a problem with the database because the cache hit rate dropped below 95% - it was in the 99%
