That isn't the sub, it is the headend. Street price currently seems to be about ∞ if you need them right now. If these are ever not vaporware it would open some amazing possibilities. Imagine a Siklu 10Gig ring with one or two of these hanging off of each one to feed a passive plant in a MDU. (never mind the extra special gland you would need...) That move really makes sense. 10GEPON or even XGS-PON seem to be a lot more standardized and OMHO are a much better choice for building into an open(ish) SDN. Not that I have the time or brain power for it anymore, but if I were in my 20s again, with time and an agile brain, just starting out building on a shoestring that is how I would start. GPON uses a TDMA system. The OLT handles the timing and scheduling. That's why you can't use a standard switch. The PON module is dumb and takes orders from the OLT.
