That isn't the sub, it is the headend. Street price currently seems to be
about ∞ if you need them right now.

Pretty big question. Are you talking about the OLT SFP, or what you plug
it into?
There is a pretty big range here. I'm most familiar with Calix. Kind of
like a switch that deploys, manages, and configures the WAN of each
connected ONT. It also manages firmware for the connected devices.
Beside
GPON uses a TDMA system.
The OLT handles the timing and scheduling. That's why you can't use a standard
switch. The PON module is dumb and takes orders from the OLT.
