or switch is they're generally fine for our purposes and cheap to replace when
they fail.
We use them a lot and are happy and frustrated with them at the same day.

You can use singlemode bidi modules on multimode fiber they do work we have
them running 1500ft+ on multimode fiber and able to get 800Mb/s+ Full
Duplex.
