Look at used Lenovo on ebay. Lots of those are lease laptops and you can
find plenty of them for cheap that are in decent condition still. That's
where we buy all our work laptops. About $300 for a good 14" laptop with
SSD drive.

Yeah, The 450i 900 system would definately do the trick
How much bandwidth do you need?
The 900 on a 10Mhz channel we see around 35Mbs in a noisy environment on
8x/4xmimoB rate.
If your doing ptp with it then open it up to 20Mhz wide and bang on.

Just get a Toughbook CF-19... they can be had on ebay for reasonable
prices, they're small, you can see the screen outside, they have ethernet

Hi,
I'm looking for suggestions for an 8 mile link that will be shooting
through a single wall of trees about 1/8 mile from one end of the link.
Currently using 2.4ghz Ubnt radios. Works great during the winter, but
once the trees fill back in, the link drops to about 5Mbps actual
Put down a quarter mile of fiber or CAT5 until you are on the other side of

Prepare to pay , they're really uncommon in terms of how many are
manufactured each year, vs ordinary 1RU/2RU or blade chassis servers.

Very true. However, we found that if we have to carry the USB dongle anyway,
that carrying the mAP instead gave us much more freedom and reliability (the
USB dongles seemed a little flaky, if they got pulled sideways in the port,
they didn’t work). We could even sit in the truck and work on
700’ of cable and use as high capacity radios as you want. It really is not
that far if you have property access.

Probably worth getting a spectrum analyzer that has 900 in its range,
208 x 30 = 6240 watts.
That is like having 4 portable electric heaters plugged in inside your rack.
Obviously they have to have HVAC capable of pumping that out of the building.

may put a bit more consideration into efficiency.

Yes, exactly. In a 300 square foot suite in a major IX point you can easily
run out of power + cooling before you run out of space. Meaning you could
not populate several cabinets with 1RU servers densely.
In real world use nobody sane will use more than 84% of the load capacity
on a 30A circuit.
I'm seeing some results for the Cisco UCS C240 M4 being NEBS-3 compliant in
its DC version , which is about a 3 year old model now. If you don't need
the very latest CPUs and system capability, might be able to find them from
a used/refurb dealer.

One of our colos limits circuit loading to 80% of capacity. One of their
reps explained to us that they don't really sell internet bandwidth,
they just sell electricity at a significant markup.

The problem with 900mhz, is that you never know if it's actually going to
work in any given area until you try it. If there are 900mhz smart meters
around, don't even bother... but even if there aren't, 900mhz can be pretty

In some older carrier hotel and IX sites it can be totally common to run

physical space. Or run into a power system bottleneck like needing a
$70,000 NRC to upgrade new air conditioning and riser power capacity before

Sure, but probably less cost than getting colo where you don't need it just to

Midpoints is what we try to get in these situations. If the customer is
worth having, it's great, they handle the funny business with the midpoint
property owner (usually they pay for that customers service) and it leaves
you the ability to serve other customers on the other side of the tree line.
You should have politely assisted them in solving their problem. Then
offered kind words about spectrum followed up with "I just wish their
service and support were as good as ours so you would have to go through
inconveniences like this"
