Re: [AFMUG] 450i integrated vs 450m

2018-04-04 Thread Bill Prince
We have noticed that the uplink on all the subscribers on the 450m
consistently in the 30-33 dBm range. This is on a tower with a very high
ambient noise level, and we never got anywhere near that on the uplink with
anything else. We installed one yesterday that is only 2.3 miles from the
AP, and it is showing 40 dBm SNR on the uplink.

We are only running 80-100 Mbps each on a pair of APs, and it doesn't look
like it's anywhere near maxing out.

Re: [AFMUG] 450i integrated vs 450m

2018-04-04 Thread Eric Muehleisen
We did recently. We swapped two 450i AP's pointed the same direction, each
with about 60 subscribers, with a 450m AP. The 450i AP's would max out
around 50mb/s downlink. Since the upgrade, the 450m AP runs about 150mb/s
downlink all day with plenty of room for growth apparently. We added a ton
of capacity and reclaimed 20mhz of spectrum in the process.

The SM's before and after saw a slight increase in downlink modulation. The
real improvement was in the uplink. The majority of SM's had 2x or 4x.
After the upgrade they almost all went to 6x or 8x. I don't have any
tangible data to share since our cnMaestro server only keeps one weeks
worth of historical data.

I should add, we are running MU-MIMO.

Re: [AFMUG] 450i Integrated

2016-10-20 Thread Ken Hohhof
Matt, I always ask, is this truly electrical downtilt, or just a built-in
mechanical downtilt? I would expect electrical downtilt to maintain the
downtilt angle across the entire horizontal beamwidth, while mechanical
downtilt provides less downtilt at the edges. (Probably not a big deal for
a 90 degree sector with 2 degrees of downtilt, it matters more with wider
sectors and greater downtilt.)

I usually have the guys downtilt Cambium sectors about 1.5 degrees, so 2
degrees is close to what we do already. But high risk of the tower climbers
adding another 2 degrees leading to those of us who stay on the ground or
back at the office going WTF when we don't get the range we expected. It
would not be a bad idea to actually put a label on the antennas stating the
built-in downtilt.

The integrated 450i sector antenna does indeed have a 2 degree electrical
downtilt. As noted below, it does have tremendous null-fill, as well as
optimized Front-to-back isolation to allow frequency re-use patterns.

Yes, this downtilt is a departure from our OEM antennas. This should appear
in the spec sheet. I will update it so that it is clearly called out, as it
is different.

Why would you do that? I thought the integrated was more of a convenience
thing, but at the expensive of sidelobe and F/B performance.

You could swap out the 450 AP for a 450i AP with the same antenna if you are
wanting to run in U-NII-1 or use 40 MHz channels.

Or there is an MTI 90 degree sector that supposedly has better sidelobe and
F/B performance if that's what you are looking for.

I think Ken is confusing the Integrated model with the letter A at the end of
the PN vs. the new one ending in the letter B. You want the on in the attached
Spec Sheet.

The new Integrated 450i has better antenna specs than the old integrated model
and the Cambium 5GHz sector. The feedback I’ve heard has been mostly positive,
although the integrated model prevents you from turning up the TX power by
playing with the antenna gain settings. So if your overdriving your gear – it
might not be a good investment.

I asked Matt when I was at HQ a couple weeks ago and he said this is
replacing the old 450i integrated AP. You can't even buy those anymore.

It's a -3dB 90 and no coax to seal. What's not to like? If the radio fails,
so what, swap the whole thing. That's what we do with regular 450 APs when
something goes wrong anyway.

Has anyone replaced a 450 AP and 90 degree antenna (model 85009324001)
with a 450i Integrated?

I would like to know if coverage was same / better, and the level of
performance improvement?

Thanks

That is not the one I was seeing. This one looks good.

I think Ken is confusing the Integrated model with the letter A at the end
of the PN vs. the new one ending in the letter B. You want the on in the
attached Spec Sheet.

The new Integrated 450i has better antenna specs than the old integrated
model and the Cambium 5GHz sector. The feedback I've heard has been mostly
positive, although the integrated model prevents you from turning up the TX
power by playing with the antenna gain settings. So if your overdriving
your gear - it might not be a good investment.

giving great results?

Why would you do that? I thought the integrated was more of a convenience
thing, but at the expensive of sidelobe and F/B performance.

You could swap out the 450 AP for a 450i AP with the same antenna if you are
wanting to run in U-NII-1 or use 40 MHz channels.

Or there is an MTI 90 degree sector that supposedly has better sidelobe and
F/B performance if that's what you are looking for.
