Hi,
I believe I'd like a pair of Ecco dots third generation whenever Alexa has been
translated into Danish.
Not a single second earlier. Smile
Siri, Google Assistant, and soon Samsung's Bixby already works in my native
language, so I hope that Amazon will follow soon.

Best regards
Brian

Certainly the Echo Dot 2ND machines I have here sound Tinny compared to the
Google Home Mini which sounds okay so if there’s anything around the same size
that sounds better then I’m all for it and I wouldn’t waste any time in ridding
myself of the Amazon 2nd Generation Dot machines and replacing them.
Unfortunately the amazon 3rd Generation Dot doesn’t seem to be available in
Australia yet.
I have 3 other Amazon echo machines here, the Echo first Generation, second
Generation and the Echo Tap which doesn’t seem to be widely supported here any
longer for whatever reason. Its a pity as I like the idea of a portable unit
which sounds quite reasonable and can play nice and loud which the Echo Tap
does.
The Echo 2nd Generation certainly sounds better than the First and I like the
idea of the line-out at the back of the 2nd Generation, I don’t think the first
had any connections at all apart from the AC input.

Re: [all-audio] Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Generation hands-on review

2018-10-21 Thread Dane Trethowan
Yeah very sad, I knew it wasn’t being updated as the tap can’t support audio
calls and so on.
As for the product being discontinued? Well there may have been a whole variety
of reasons from Amazon’s point of view and the first that comes to mind is the
very short battery life by today’s standards particularly when you have the Tap
monitoring all the time for your voice, it just doesn’t last very long.
I’m playing music now through the Econ 2nd generation and as you say, its got a
nice robust sound even though its in mono which means that this echo will sound
pretty good with just about everything you throw at it.
If I want stereo sound from my echo then I have the Heos skill installed which
allows me to stream from the echo to any one of my Heos devices.

Re: [all-audio] Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Generation hands-on review

2018-10-21 Thread Tom Kaufman
Dane: Yes...as best as I understand, the Tap has been discontinued! Am sorry
to see this happen! with the Tap, you cannot sync it with an Echo; this is to
say, let's say you are listening to your Amazon music library on the Tap and
wish to continue listening on an Echo where the Tap left off, this cannot be
done (I've tried it) talked with a few folks from Amazon Tech support (in fact,
one gentleman had sold me on a higher priced package in order to do this! But
then I was able to speak with someone else from Amazon who apparently knew more
than the guy I had previous had spoken with who informed me that there was
really no way to do this with the tap!  I do like the second Generation Echo;
comes in handy for things like listening to baseball games as it has that big,
robust sound (not stereo) the Tap is okay in the sound department (is in
stereo) but not quite as robust as the Amazon Echo! And yes...I like the Pat's
portability! Too bad that Amazon has chosen to discontinue it!

Yes and thanks for pointing that out.
The chap in the review under discussion knew his stuff by the sound of things
and certainly knew how to record something, he certainly had the right
equipment to do the job which really doesn’t take all that much these days.

The Hands Free of the echo is rubbish and - as the reviewer points out - this
has been improved with the Echo 3rd Generation, I make calls with my Echo 2nd
generation where hands free quality is absolutely brilliant - 2nd Generation of
Echo not to be confused with 2nd generation of echo dot -.

Re: [all-audio] Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Generation hands-on review

2018-10-21 Thread Dane Trethowan

Yeah to be fair too we'd have to understand what gear was used for
recording. Also mic placement. Saddly recording gear doesn't exactly
replace ear drums. I would say only a Sound Devices 7 series recorder
and some real good mic but even at that I can't really judge as I've not
heard a recording of a place I know the full sound of made on 1 of
those. All this to just say recordings don't always do things full

nothing will replace ears. On topic though, I found it interesting the

Re: [all-audio] Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Generation hands-on review

2018-10-21 Thread Laz
hmm. I have both an Echo Dot 2nd gen and a Google Home Mini and
neither one ssounds as bad or quiet as the ones in the Youtube video.
In fact I use a Google Home mini in my bedroom to listen to music when
I'm in the shower and if the volume was that low I would never be able
to hear it over the noise of the shower...

When comparing the Echo Dot 2nd gen and the Google Home Mini the
Google Home Mini sounds much better and louder as well.

So I was left in mystery as to why the ones in the video sounded so
bad and quiet...

Very informative.

Now if they implement some sort of trade-in program for the Echo 2nd
Generation I purchased earlier this year. I'll definitely pick the new
3rd generation Echo up.
