Re: [all-audio] Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Generation hands-on review
Yeah very sad, I knew it wasn’t being updated as the tap can’t support audio calls and so on. As for the product being discontinued? Well there may have been a whole variety of reasons from Amazon’s point of view and the first that comes to mind is the very short battery life by today’s standards particularly when you have the Tap monitoring all the time for your voice, it just doesn’t last very long. I’m playing music now through the Econ 2nd generation and as you say, its got a nice robust sound even though its in mono which means that this echo will sound pretty good with just about everything you throw at it. If I want stereo sound from my echo then I have the Heos skill installed which allows me to stream from the echo to any one of my Heos devices. > On 22 Oct 2018, at 7:54 am, Tom Kaufman wrote: > > Dane: Yes...as best as I understand, the Tap has been discontinued! Yes and thanks for pointing that out. Ah good. Because that's something else I forgot to point out. I've never heard a dot. But I was just pointing out to that person that recordings can at times be unfair. Good to hear that wasn't the case here though. The Hands Free of the echo is rubbish and - as the reviewer points out - this has been improved with the Echo 3rd Generation, I make calls with my Echo 2nd generation where hands free quality is absolutely brilliant - 2nd Generation of Echo not to be confused with 2nd generation of echo dot -. > On 22 Oct 2018, at 4:54 am, Tom Kaufman wrote: > > I've actually heard the original Dot; I found it to be "okay"...but some of > us would definitely want to plug in another speaker as the original Dot was > just " okay!" Re: [all-audio] Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Generation hands-on review
Yes I lament the disappearance of the Echo Tap so are you sure that’s gone? I use my Echo Dot machines as clocks and information providers for want of a better description as they’re really not good music players unless you have them paired to Bluetooth devices or set up with a line-in source but all the same they serve their purpose well and they’re nice and small. > On 22 Oct 2018, at 4:37 am, Tom Kaufman wrote: > > I have the second Generation Echo; sounds really nice; only problem I have > (and I knew this going in) is that you don't get stereo sound with it! Re: [all-audio] Amazon Echo Dot 3rd Generation hands-on review
Certainly the Echo Dot 2ND machines I have here sound Tinny compared to the Google Home Mini which sounds okay so if there’s anything around the same size that sounds better then I’m all for it and I wouldn’t waste any time in ridding myself of the Amazon 2nd Generation Dot machines and replacing them. Unfortunately the amazon 3rd Generation Dot doesn’t seem to be available in Australia yet. I have 3 other Amazon echo machines here, the Echo first Generation, second Generation and the Echo Tap which doesn’t seem to be widely supported here any longer for whatever reason. Its a pity as I like the idea of a portable unit which sounds quite reasonable and can play nice and loud which the Echo Tap does. The Echo 2nd Generation certainly sounds better than the First and I like the idea of the line-out at the back of the 2nd Generation, I don’t think the first had any connections at all apart from the AC input. > On 22 Oct 2018, at 3:05 am, Laz wrote: > > hmm. Yeah to be fair too we'd have to understand what gear was used for recording. Also mic placement. Saddly recording gear doesn't exactly replace ear drums. I have the second Generation Echo; sounds really nice; only problem I have (and I knew this going in) is that you don't get stereo sound with it! But it does have a nice, full sound! Am sorry that Amazon has discontinued the Tap (that does produce stereo sound) but if there are any left, once they're gone, they're gone!
