I gave up the previous method and downloaded alsa driver from the intel
site .
the first method didn't work. i did 'intel8x0..sh -d'
Again i went into ./acore/memory_wrapper.c sgbuf.c
searched for pte_offset and replaced with pte_offset_map

Hi,
I run multiple instances of aplay with short wav files at once. I get
underrun messages sometimes.
What does it mean? I guess that they cannot provide samples fast enough - so
how can I set them to run with more cpu resources (is higher priority
enough - or should I set something else ?).

After watching other people report problems with the i810 but not
success, I decided to try using OSS instead of ALSA (details below).
This got me the functionality I need so I can stop struggling with this.
(While looking in the OSS driver source for option settings I found

One minor nit to pick. There seems to be just enough of a miss-match
between kmix, which seems to autodetect and resize itself according
to the hardware available, and alsa (1.0.4) but it misses the mark on
a couple of things.
For xmms, it also seems to use the first one of the
