I can relatively easily add new ways to autodetect modems, if you can give me tips which autodetect process works for your modem - I have changed my original "ATZ" request to "ATH" - but maybe I should try both "ATZ" and "ATH", as some modems correctly reply to first string and some to second...

IIRC, +++ is the Hayes command for ESC ATZ, as L.D. stated, is the Hayes command to reset to factory defaults. ATH, or ATH0, as Clarence said, is for Hangup, as is ALT-H. ATF0, ATF1, ATF2 load stored profiles 0, 1, and 2, respectively. AT just checks the modem, and if it is present/on,
