Re: EXTERNAL: Re: Off Topic - Before the List is Gone! NOTE: Not Gone, MOVED

2016-09-27 Thread Ian.Trimnell
Well, I think it is a case of “So long, and thanks for all the fish”. I just
attempted to join the group in Communities and got the following message:

The area of BMC Communities is visible to registered logged in users. If you
are logged in when you receive this message then you might not have sufficient
access privileges to view requested page.

I don’t know whether this is linked to the fact that we are no longer customers
of BMC – we moved to MS System Centre Service Manager a couple of years ago,
but still use AR System in a non-maintained mode for some mission critical
functions (don’t ask!). Perhaps my BMC account is in a confused state. I am
lurking here as I am still responsible for the current implementation (having
built it from scratch over the past 17 years) and you never know when problems
might arise.

Despite having moved to SCSM there are number of people who still pine for our
Remedy solution, but I think that management have burnt their bridges and have
taken the MS dollar. The main complaints of SCSM are that it is slow, not
really a ticketing solution like Remedy can be and it can’t handle child forms
(the main reason why the system I maintain hasn’t migrated).

So, if I can’t get into the Communities group for ARSlist then I will say
goodbye, and thanks for all the help I have received for all of you over the
past years. I have always enjoyed working with AR System, mainly because you
can get to do anything you want (within reason!).

Cheers!

Communities auto associates your communities account with the SSO that is used
at the rest of BMC, which includes your BMC Support account (if you have
one)...if you don't have one, then it just creates an accountthere is no
need to have it tied to anything support related. If you decide to have it
associated with your support account (through your work email), then, when you
change jobs, it's necessary to have the communities account associated with a
new 'customer' account...but, if your communities profile is associated with a
personal address instead of work address, there is no need for all of that
effort.

I’ve been developing Remedy AR System schemas and workflow since 1994

There was always an answer that went far beyond what you could get from
Remedy/(Evil Bird)/BMC support often times coming from Doug Mueller (Father
Remedy).

Matthew, Carey, Claire, Gidd, L J, Jason, Joe, Misi, Kelly, Dave,
Lenny, Barry, Fred, Phil and Dan are names that will forever hold a place of

Wow I guess I’ve been living ARSystem far too long.

From the early Motif days through the First web based interface
(cgi_ar) to Push actions (yeah) and check boxes (meh, should have been binary
mapped selections in one field), Remedy Web and MidTier I’ve been able to
provide a solution for our organization.

Thank you,

I love the ARSlist like many of you but I am not seeing why this whole
secret group on the BMC Communities is going to exist? 3 out of the 4 posts
that were made to that group in September really belong in the appropriate
"product" space where a larger group of people are looking for questions to
answer and other people will learn from those answers.

Involvement on the List has diminished to almost nothing. Now there are
less posts a month than there use to be in a single day. IMO... Let the
ARSlist die a peaceful death instead of keeping it on life support, all
ugly/mangled looking, without any signs of life.

Re: EXTERNAL: Re: Off Topic - Before the List is Gone! NOTE: Not Gone, MOVED

2016-09-27 Thread Timothy Powell
I think that the participation has died because people knew the list was going
to die. Why ask questions when you know that you may not get answers before it
goes away?

I see the transition to Communities as a cluster as well. I think we are doing
ourselves as a community a disservice by letting this die. We’ll never get the
value we have here on ARSList from Communities. This latest “access issue” is a
perfect example.
Don’t get me wrong…Communities has its place and value, but so does this list.
They are different and should be separate (IMHO).

And I understand that Dan has expenses and time involved which have become
prohibitive…I get it. And he shouldn’t have to bear that alone, or bear it at
all.

Here’s a suggestion. I am sure that Dan owns the domain rights to arslist.org
for quite some time. Why not put in a simple re-direct for that domain to a
free PHPBB type forum (like those hosted by freeforums.org) where we all can
continue to do “this” without the large financial overhead and the BMC
oversight/administrative/control overhead? And there are probably other forum
solutions out there besides freeforums.org, that was just an example,

Simple domain name registration and re-directs are cheap. I’ll donate the first
3 years of the cost. I am very familiar with that FreeForums platform and will
also donate my time to help set it up and manage it (with help from others as
well of course) or will work with folks on any other similar forum platform.

Tim

AR System Resource Definitions Question

2016-09-27 Thread Mark
I am using HTML images stored in AR System Resource Definitions form.

I had to update an image, and am not sure how/when the images are
refreshed, as the old image is still displaying. I cleared my browser
cache, closed my browser, logged out and back in. I refreshed the form.
All I have not done is restart the mid-tier.

Before I jump through that hoop, anyone have knowledge on the inner
workings here? Am I being impatient or do I need to do something other
than restart MT?

Thanks!
Mark

I don’t know whether this is linked to the fact that we are no longer
customers of BMC – we moved to MS System Centre Service Manager a couple of
years ago, but still use AR System in a non-maintained mode for some mission
critical functions (don’t ask!). Perhaps my BMC account is in a confused state.
I am lurking here as I am still responsible for the current implementation
(having built it from scratch over the past 17 years) and you never know when
problems might arise.

Despite having moved to SCSM there are number of people who still pine
for our Remedy solution, but I think that management have burnt their bridges
and have taken the MS dollar. The main complaints of SCSM are that it is slow,
not really a ticketing solution like Remedy can be and it can’t handle child
forms (the main reason why the system I maintain hasn’t migrated).

So, if I can’t get into the Communities group for ARSlist then I will
say goodbye, and thanks for all the help I have received for all of you over
the past years. I have always enjoyed working with AR System, mainly because
you can get to do anything you want (within reason!).

Cheers!

Communities auto associates your communities account with the SSO that
is used at the rest of BMC, which includes your BMC Support account (if you
have one)...if you don't have one, then it just creates an accountthere is
no need to have it tied to anything support related. If you decide to have it
associated with your support account (through your work email), then, when you
change jobs, it's necessary to have the communities account associated with a
new 'customer' account...but, if your communities profile is associated with a
personal address instead of work address, there is no need for all of that
effort.

Remedy Developer Available

2016-09-27 Thread William Rentfrow
Hi all -

The list gets shut off in a few days, but I'll throw this out there. At the
end of September I will be completing a 9 year contract and be available. I
will also be re-training on another competing product (Thankfully not the one
that starts with "S") since my company as a whole is headed that direction, but
if something comes up I'm willing to look at it.

I have 17+ years of Remedy Development experience in a multitude of
environments, including working with all of the following:

* Many different OS installs: Linux variants, Windows

* Database platforms: Oracle, SQL Server

* Large non-root installs in secure facilities

* Large server groups with production systems spanning 25+ server (3
Oracle RAC, 8 AR, 9 Web)

* Performance troubleshooting and maintenance to prevent outages by
identifying problems up front

* I currently have held a civilian "sensitive" level security clearance

Roles I've had in past projects include:

* Project Manager

* Lead designer and implementation lead

* Performance troubleshooting lead

* Heads down system coder

* Lead Integration Designer

* Code monkey

I've worked with the full suite of BMC ITSM Products including the Smart IT/My
IT line, CMDB, All things ITSM, and more. Do I claim to be an expert on every
single one? No, but I am very good at finding the answers and implementing them!

Please contact me if you are interested. I'm not looking to become a W2
employee of another company, but I'm open to various contract structures. All
of that will be through my company of course, not directly through me.

Re: AR System Resource Definitions Question

2016-09-27 Thread Jason Miller
I am pretty sure the images are cached based on the "Resource Check
Interval" value in the MT config (docs.bmc.com is not very clear if these
"resources" are included or not).

If you want to force the update a full MT restart isn't needed. You can get
away with flushing the cache. It would be nice if sync cache checks for
updated AR System Resource Definitions records but I am not sure if it does
or not.

I know in the past I have not had to perform a complete restart of MT for
updated images/templates to show up.

problems might arise.

Cheers!

Hi Axton,

Long time since I saw you. Both online and face2face. Are you still doing
Remedy stuff?

But hopefully the list will continue to live on BMC communitites!

This list will be missed. I want to say thanks to everyone who made it
what it is.

That was “more or less” my understanding too – thank goodness a new
account need not be created every time you are working on a different or a
newer support contract..

Communities auto associates your communities account with the SSO that
is used at the rest of BMC, which includes your BMC Support
