Re: MyIT Services to Atrium CMDB Services

2015-02-24 Thread Pierson, Shawn
I don’t know if this is true or not but I was told that we’d have to rely on
BPPM to basically be in the middle of MyIT and Atrium in terms of setting up
Services. However, at least SmartIT has hooks into the CMDB so I’m assuming
that whatever exists in MyIT will be expanded on in later versions.
Additionally, since MyIT uses SRM I can easily build SRM forms that take CMDB
and Asset Management data into consideration so that’s not a problem. I just
don’t want to have to create business services in more than one place.

Thanks,

ADV: Meta-Archive Product Announcement: ITSM Archiving

2015-02-24 Thread Ben Chernys
Hi Folks,

As enterprises have been using ITSM for some time now, they have accumulated
Incidents, Changes, and other “root requests” that are closed, old, and can
be archived. These data have slowed down searches and the ITSM application
responses. Moving these data into Archive tables speeds up database search
and retrieval from the high-use, active ITSM tables.

ITSM Challenges

BMC Remedy OOTB Archiving handles each table independently. In fact, an ITSM

Incident comprises many records in many forms — a tree of dependent records.

Further, if an Incident is associated with a Change that is not archive
ready, then that

Incident too, must not be archived.

Meta-Archive for an ITSM Incident

Introducing Meta-Archive

Your Benefits

Software Tool House's Meta-Archive solves all ITSM Archiving challenges and
implements your archiving rules. We make it easy! Handle customers and
classes of tickets differently, add your customized forms easily — all in a
simple spreadsheet.

Archive forms are automatically generated. Associations are checked and
reported.

Meta-Archive delivers

· All associations are checked before a record is archived.

· The entire tree of records is archived before any deletions are
done.

· Different archival ages can be set for different customers or
classes of tickets.

· Different ages for associations can be set.

· It is easy to add any customized tables to the tree.

· It is easy to change or add archival targets: Archival forms,
different servers, SQL databases, the file system.

· We get you going in a few hours with no server changes, no
development project, no headaches.

Hi,

These fields are probably always there regardless of wether you have
explicitly added them to your form.

DevStudio will not show fields that are NOT added, for example in a Set-Fields
situation.

But when you use a Run Process Table Refresh, you just type in the field id,
and it will work fine.

 Joe,

My personal experience is that you can utilize the field in the
run-process, without the field existing on the form because it's implicitly
already there, on a regular form at leasttry it on a display only form,
or something similar, you are likely to have a problem.

Interesting idea Joe. That is definitely more feasible now than it would have
been ten years ago. Of course that brings up the topic of having a virtual RUG
via something like Google Hangouts where anyone could participate. The audience
would probably have to be limited in some way (by state/country?) because with
a worldwide audience the logistics could get crazy if a lot of people want to
join a single session.

Thanks Lee. I neglected to ask in my initial query what people might want to
see on the agenda other than general networking with other local Remedy
developers or administrators. I know in the past we used to have a vendor
presentation and the open it up for general discussion. I also know there are
quite a few locals who don't post here much but might be reading so if anyone
wants to respond directly to me off-list that is fine, too. Anyone within easy

Shawn,

I'll speak for myself say that any evaluation of My IT/Smart IT is
welcomed. I intend to do my own evaluation in May, but hearing what other
people like/don't like, issues experience helps. When I do my own
evaluation, I'll use comments generated from the list to understand areas
where the product is weak/strong. Potentially you'll notice something

When I get around to installing and checking out Smart IT, I'll be happy

Good morning,

I?m in the process of configuring my proof of concept MyIT/SmartIT box and
came across something that seems strange to me. According to what I?ve
been told, there?s no direct connection between the Services that are
configured in the CMDB and what exists in the ?Services? used by MyIT.
Furthermore, it appears that there isn?t a way to show services being
available or not based on outages reported within ITSM. I hope I?m wrong
or that this integration is going to be in a future release but I wanted
to see if anyone else has run into this yet.

Overall I have a positive view of what MyIT/SmartIT does, but there are a
few areas like this that seem disconnected. If there is any interest,
I?ll write up my opinion of MyIT/SmartIT later this week after I?ve had a
few more days to play around with it.

Thanks,

Re: Any interest in a San Diego RUG meeting?

2015-02-24 Thread Joe D'Souza
I use a couple of resources for free audio conferencing -
freeconferencecall.com is one of them that I find to be quite good. I do not
know if there is a limitation on number of invites you can send on that as
most of my use of that resource has been with small groups discussing some
of the project requirements on projects I worked on.

I do not know if it supports video feed as I have not had to use it for
video.

If you're interested in hosting it virtually while the live conference is in
session, I'll try to look around for a reliable resource to use.

Maybe you can send out an invite a sponsor for hosting it in the virtual
world.

I'm free at the moment looking for a new engagement, so am willing to spare
some time coordinating and do what I can from home in NJ if you need a
resource to organize the virtual side of it. My only pre-occupation is some
RD I am doing on 8.x and then later on 9.0 BETA apart from taking interview
calls for finding a new gig.

On another note, if anyone has a lead for a suitable development opportunity
in the Remedy world that you can't use, I would appreciate a referral. Email
me directly either here or on joe_rem...@yahoo.com or joe.dso...@yahoo.com.

Interesting idea Joe. That is definitely more feasible now than it would
have been ten years ago. Of course that brings up the topic of having a
virtual RUG via something like Google Hangouts where anyone could
participate. The audience would probably have to be limited in some way (by
state/country?) because with a worldwide audience the logistics could get
crazy if a lot of people want to join a single session.

Actually — I am wondering … do people agree with this fundamental
assumption that the more records the worse the performance?

To me — that is only for “inefficient queries” and — for the most part -
even if you archive — you will still have a slow system.

Do people agree with that??? And if so — isn’t the right solution - to “fix
the queries”.

I know this — archiving roughly doubles” the reporting headaches, workflow

 Hi Folks,

As enterprises have been using ITSM for some time now, they have
accumulated Incidents, Changes, and other “root requests” that are closed,
old, and can be archived. These data have slowed down searches and the

up database search and retrieval from the high-use, active ITSM tables.

 *ITSM Challenges*

BMC Remedy OOTB Archiving handles each table independently. In fact, an
 ITSM

Incident comprises many records in many forms — a *tree* of dependent
 records.

Further, if an Incident is associated with a Change that is not archive
 ready, then that

Incident too, *must* *not* be archived.

 *Your Benefits*

Software Tool House's Meta-Archive solves all ITSM Archiving challenges
and implements your archiving rules. We make it easy! Handle customers and
classes of tickets differently, add your customized forms easily — all in a
 simple spreadsheet.

Archive forms are automatically generated. Associations are checked and
 reported.

 *Meta-Archive delivers*

 · All associations are checked before a record is archived.

 · The entire tree of records is archived before any deletions are
 done.

 · Different archival ages can be set for different customers or
 classes of tickets.

 · Different ages for associations can be set.

 · It is easy to add any customized tables to the tree.

 · It is easy to change or add archival targets: Archival forms,
different servers, SQL databases, the file system.

 · We get you going in a few hours with no server changes, no
 development project, no headaches.
