I'm saying that no matter how loaded, a T1 card with a dedicated hardware
framer should never generate HDLC framing errors.
So the hardware and/or device drivers are suspect, and I'd start there.

No, the point is to find if there are any known issues with the hardware or
device drivers that present themselves across all Linux distros.

Not really. I need it to do 24.

Why take it over to another list? The point of this conversation is to
prove that AstLinux can manage this config.
However, in talking about the asterisk mailing list you've given me an
idea. I should try regular Linux/Asterisk (rather than the uC special
AstLinux build) on this hardware to see
First, I'd take this conversation over to the asterisk mailing list.
But what's strange is that most TDM chips include an HDLC framer (or even two),
so the framing is done in hardware, and high CPU usage should not cause framing
errors unless the card (or driver) has a serious design flaw.

If I limit the calls to 2 every 5s and no more than 8 calls I can
exercise the card reliably.
If I up that to 9 calls I start to get HDLC errors and if I do 10 calls
the entire span takes a dump and restarts.

No idea. It's also not carried by Digium any more. They have the TE120P
out now and even that's on an EOL notice.
However, the card is still sold by many "dealers" for around $130.
I found somebody whom had tested a 4801 running FreeBSD with a TE110P
and Asterisk. He was only able to get 2 conc

Yup, it's not looking good at all.
In the pure SIP domain I can route 50 calls concurrently (haven't tried
any more than that) and it was solid for over 2 hours after which I
stopped the test.
In the T1 domain using a Digium TE110P I can't get any more than 10
calls from it. After that the T1

Looks like your PRI signalling isn't set up correctly.
I'd doublecheck that b8zs is correct for ESF. In fact, I'm not even
sure ESF is the appropriate setting for ISDN signalling.

It's looking better in the SIP world.
I have the 5501 currently routing 50 calls at a rate of 5 calls a
second. Just to make sure that there's no network losses etc I also have
a softphone connected through the 5501 to the P4 so that I can hear the
MOH. I guess technically that makes 51 calls.
Well, it doesn't look good.
My test rig is as follows
P4 3GHz/2GB/Digium TE110P T1 card running latest 1.4 sources from Digium
site. T1 card configured as PRI_NET and internal timing. span=1,0,0,esf,b8zs
NET5501-70 (500MHz/512MB) with TE110P running Astlinux 0.7.2. T1 card
configured as P

Mark,
I'm not aware of any stress tests other than the ones you've provided in
the past ;)
Lonnie may have done some, but not likely with a T1 card.

Hi all,
Has anyone done any stress tests using the 5501 and a T1 card?
I need some data for a project I'm doing and was hoping to get a head start.
If not then I'll do it myself and post the results.

There are images available based on trunk (which would be astlinux 0.6).
You can grab the image files here:
