Re: Accessible Antivirus?
@Dark: if you launch disk optimisation, you'll soon be told if you have an SSD. Or you can grope around in properties for your system disk, to find out (the hint is probably in the name). Or, try Device Manager and/or storage management. Etc.

Re: Accessible Antivirus?
Got around to installing MSE. Totally accessible installation process. Updating was accessible, so was initial scan. Turned off scheduled scan with no problems. Can open the interface from the system tray, or just read that protection is on from there okay. All

Task manager should be telling you how much memory each application and process is taking up.

Re: Accessible Antivirus?
If you have sighted people around, I'd be tempted to just keep it. I live alone so the fact that the threat dialogues now seem to be more inaccessible than they were means I just have to accept whatever AVG wants to do. I couldn't tell AVG to allow a file
Re: Accessible Antivirus?
So, here's my dilema. I've spoken to my Dad about this, informing him of the false positives and stuff. We've come to the conclusion that some sort of protection will be necessary even if we were to remove AVG, so I haven't gone for it yet. If I had my way, I'd
Re: Accessible Antivirus?
What I had to do to remove it was: tried the usual uninstall from the programs list, but it hung on 2%. Then searched for AVG removal tool and downloaded it from avg.com. It got rid of AVG Xen, but left behind AVG protection. I clicked uninstall again in programs

I actually don't know if this windows 10 machine has an ssd, it might, since certainly the startup and over all speed is something I really like.

Re: Accessible Antivirus?
I'm currently using Eset Nod32, but you need to stick with version 8, because 9 and 10 really aren't accessible. I tested both versions with JAWS and NVDA, and I actually got myself into a really bad situation where I had managed to set a password to protect
Re: Accessible Antivirus?
It's interesting that Kaspersky was quite unaccessible on one Windows XP machine, that I have here, hovever from win7 it is good and best on win10, there also Jaws is working with it without touch cursor (not sure if calling Jaws feature right, just translating

Re: Accessible Antivirus?
Have to agree about SSD's. It's the one thing that makes a massively noticeable difference to speed. And as a bonus, if you keep your old HDD, you have a windows recovery option that can be performed without any sighted assistance, something I banged my head

Re: Accessible Antivirus?
Indeed; best case is that you are using a spinning HDD and the cleaning contracted the hive files sufficiently for you to experience a slight speedup, perhaps after vacuum and defrag. On today's SSDs, I can't imagine it will amount to anything at all besides
Re: Accessible Antivirus?
Registry cleaners are pritty useless these days. To put it short: some programs leave behind broken registry entries, but they are very, very small and will not be accessed since the program is removed. ON top of that, you might actually damage your install, so
Re: Accessible Antivirus?
hi.I've used kaspersky internet security and eset smart security and they are both good.personally, I've had a bad experience using free antivirus, and am never going back there again. windefendr also deletes a lot of stuff by mistake.on the other hand, eset
Re: Accessible Antivirus?
Lol, drak is correct here there is no better way of protection than avoiding dodgy stuff . Odd you say c cleaner caused such issues, since I've been using it for a couple of years now, including the clean registry function and it's been great, indeed it let me
Re: Accessible Antivirus?
I've been using ESET NOD32 for years and, to my knowledge, it has yet to let me down. Not that I purposefully go on dangerous sites, open unknown e-mail attachments, click on phishing links, or download a ton of software.

Re: Accessible Antivirus?
Last time I used C cleaner, over 10 years ago, it was far from idiot-proof. I ran the registry cleaner and perged everything it offered me and was rewarded with the dreaded blue screen, haahah. Been scared of it ever since. I've just tried it again as I can easily
Re: Accessible Antivirus?
@Flickers, I have actually done the same thing. I used Avg for a very long while, but the inaccessibility, false positives and ever more clunky functions just put me off the thing, so now I've moved to Windows 10 I gave it the heave hoe and to be honest I've
Re: Accessible Antivirus?
Hello, for me the best antivirus is Kaspersky total security or Kaspersky internet security depends on your requirements, theyr are fully accessible (on win7 and higher) and have lots of pro features that will protect you against malware, from my experience theyr

For the time being, as SkyLord said, it may be better to stick with windows defender on windows for a number of reasons. You can read more about the details [here].

Accessible Antivirus?
Just got rid of AVG as it's not as accessible as it was before this latest revamp. I could no longer temporarily turn off its protection to do a system restore, or download a file I knew to be safe. It was a total pain to remove even with the AVG removal tool, which
